One loss to A’s no need to overreact. In May Giants lost 1st game to Rockies at home and won next 3 games in series.
But body of work encompassing half a season should not be ignored. While Verlander admittedly pitched to bad luck early in year, he’s winless with 4.85 era and trending backwards since brief stint on IL. Less innings pitched, more runs allowed.
One more start before All-Star break. Barring breakout performance, Posey & Melvin need to consider Whisenhunt, Beck or someone else to fill starter role. Continuing to throw Verlander out every five days senseless.
Agreed on change in rotation. Chapman and Schmitt ready to go so few Giants may stay behind in Sac after weekend. See if Minasian can add piece here or there. Not sure who they have left to sell of much value.
Giants should go after 2B Brandon Lowe LH batter with pop in the middle of the LU , good defense as well.Trade Fitzgerald and 2 prospects see if TB bites.Schmitt stays he has more upside then Fitz and both Lowe&Schmitt can platoon being the L-R combo.
Still another OF,Pitcher /Reliever in play as well..
Didn’t watch the game, but what I don’t get (and maybe someone can explain) is that Verlander got 5 strikeouts, with 3 of the batters going down swinging. He did this in 3 innings pitched. I haven’t checked out his previous pitching logs with the Giants, but it seems like he’s getting a lot of SOs each game; and, until his last couple of outings was pitching effectively. WTF is going on? Any ideas from the Flap (besides him being as old as Methuselah)?
on the broadcast Kruk was saying mostly everything Verlander was throwing was up in the zone and that’s why they were able to hammer out all those 2Bs against him. Beyond that, I dunno.
I’m not qualified to answer but recent trends tend to tell sobering truths. In past month Verlander has made four starts with cumulative ERA of 6.27. 18 total innings pitched which means Verlander is averaging under 5 innings per start. 24 total hits allowed averaging 1.33 hits surrendered per inning. OBA against Verlander .308.
Whether Kruk correct that Verlander pitches up in zone or velocity down or he’s falling behind in pitch count, last month’s numbers aren’t good. Someone today mentioned possibility of using Verlander out of pen. Intriguing idea.
Agree with Willie, at least 2 players will be left in Sac by close of this weekend. Bailey struck out 4 times in 4 ABs. I don’t care how good of a catcher he is defensively . . . I WANT HIM GONE. Promote Barnes or another stiff. Same deal with Matos. He’s failed each and every time he’s been called up. He must be on 1/2 dozen or so Sacramento to San Francisco Greyhound bus round trips. Jesus . . .
Loo, no . . . We were going to get together for lunch or breakfast a few days prior to me leaving CA back in early April, but I got overwhelmed by packing; closing on both sell/buy homes; and, the worst thing – a childhood friend dying of anaplastic thyroid cancer (took him in 4-5 months from diagnosis in Nov. to March) – texted Chi that I couldn’t make it.
He’s doing really well though. Retired and still with his long time GF. He would know about this Sac Stadium, as he goes to a few games each season.
In fairness, Wilson was still quite effective in 2011 (e.g., got the save in the AS game; 8th in total saves, where he converted 36 of his 41 save opportunities). However, he was injured twice (oblique muscle) in spring training; and, what turned out to be the beginning of the end, late August, inflammation of his elbow. He was actually 3rd in saves at that time. Next season, he had TJ surgery. Still remember vividly his “attack” on the water cooler in the dugout in July of 2011. lmao
Casilla lost the closer job mid 2012 to Romo due to an alleged finger blister iirc. My son and I were talking about that over lunch today by coincidence. The demotion occurred after Santiago gave up a ninth inning walk off homer in Oakland. Broke the kids heart. He still discounts Casilla’s worth. We did also laugh remembering the one time Santiago had an AB.
Thanks, Willie. If the few that are left at the NHC are correct, it’ll hit in South Carolina and go inland into NC. Probably just get a little rain and wind here on the coast.
I’ve been to the River Cats ballpark a few times. It’s a very nice AAA ballpark. And it looks just fine on TV, in my opinion. No doubt the players are grumbling about the clubhouses and all that. Rich people grumbling gets pretty old, though.
A few years ago, the Las Vegas Aces won back to back WNBA championships, and it seemed like they were going to be a longterm dynasty. Well….they didn’t make the finals last season, and free agency has cost them some of their talent. A’ja Wilson still seems invincible, but she doesn’t have as much help as she used to. This past week, the Fever, without Clark, defeated the Aces by 27, and the Aces now have a losing record.
It might just be an illusion, but it seems like a lot of MLB teams are more athletic than the Giants. I remember an NFL coach (I don’t remember who) said something like: “During pre-game warm-ups, the other team’s players always look bigger than ours.”
Welcome back Chappy for your effort let’s see you get drilled like Ramos back to back! This shit is getting old especially to Ramos I’m surprised he doesn’t have a broken hand yet as he’s taken many shots off that left hand this year.As Kruk mentioned such a stupid rule a team can drill your players but not till a Giant pitcher Retaliates then both teams get a warning? Such BS!
Well atleast Adames came thru with a clutch 2 out 2RBI hit!
Well Wisely would never make it in Shawshank,he’s the dude that pisses all over himself the first night “I want my Mommy” as the guard beats the shit out of him.,
Nice win! Re Webb… I do occasional betting on Prize pics. Rarely, and has taken a year to go through the $100 I started with. After losing some bets and lost interest. So today I had a 3 pick lineup. Got the 1st two (including a Lee hit) and Webb needed “more than” 20 outs. If that last pitch curls in for the 3rd out 21 outs and I win $40. Nope:)

I would like to see Schmitt play 2nd most of the time.
I wouldn’t get too hyped about Schmitt just yet. He’s fooled us before – we’ll see if he’s really figured it out…
What you said Loo. I am not convinced. This injury will likely hurt him, insofar as progressing as a ball player. Dunno.
is pitching Verlander out of the BP even a possibility? He might look pretty good in long relief.
is pitching Verlander out of the BP even a possibility?
sorry for double post .. arrrgh .. WP is annoying!

TY BB . . . Guess he’s been more than sub-effective for more than a couple of games per Dean.

I guess Bailey will have to stay . . . Unfuckingbelievable as it may seem, Knizner, with his “sterling silver” (NOT) .147 batting average is worse.
Hey Blade, any word from Chi?
Loo, no . .

Thanks, Blade – sorry about your old friend. I’m averaging a wake a month this year. Maybe Chi will check in on his own…
TJ for Yanks’ Clarke Schmidt. Always amazed how healthy the Giants kept Tim, Cain, Bum and the big 4 in the pen through the 3 in 5…
wilson was only casualty and not missed after 2010…at least by me.
Right, Affeldt had an occasional minor mishap but Romo, Casilla and Javy mostly injury-free far as I can remember…
In fairness, Wilson was still quite effective in 2011 (e.g., got the save in the AS game; 8th in total saves, where he converted 36 of his 41 save opportunities). Some Verlander stuff:

Good stuff!
Hopefully all Outer Banks residents safe from Tropical storm Chantal

Madden?
When we play the Athletics they just look more athletic than us, don’t know what it is.
ha! Maybe it’s the Green Bay Packer unis.
Way to go Adames.
Adames needed two-run single as much as team. Time for Adames to step up his game and deliver in clutch.
Also time for Webby to deliver shut down performance and right Giants leaky ship.
Way to go Adames!
Can you repeat that?
Adames again.
And Matty again sorta…
Adames! Twice times two?
I think Williams sends Lee now no matter the situation. That hard LD played cleanly by a LF with an arm was an obvious risk.
Heliot shot!
A little payback from Ramos.
Paybacks a Bitch!
Yeah Wisely, swing the bat!
bottom order comes through again.
Severino claims the Sac ballpark is to blame for his 0-7 record at home. Be satisfying to make it 0-8.
Webb has thrown some hard inside pitches since the first inning. Nothing flagrant. But edgy.
now Webb’s lost his command.
4-6-3.
Kevin Mitchell uniform looked great.
Mitchell was major badass…
Big time fav of mine. I still have that flip card of Mitch that you sent me.
I knew it would be in good hands…
Well Wisely would never make it in Shawshank,he’s the dude that pisses all over himself the first night “I want my Mommy” as the guard beats the shit out of him.,
Webb was an out away from High Quality 7/2 start. He has 6 of them this season, 4 wins 1 loss 1 no decision.
When will a Giant pitcher at least dust somebody?
Inspired by her, I’ve been working on my cripwalk over the last few months.
You can do it, James!
Enjoy game tomorrow James. hopefully quality start for Birds.
Thanks for the support, guys!
Victory!
Nice win. Plus, LA and the Pads both lost
