A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Now That’s More Like It

So all we needed to do was get Chapman back? Seems like an easy enough fix. Summertime is when Adames always heats up. It’s go-time.

Bailey hit .234 in June with .674 OPS, best month of season. Lot of suggestions for where Posey improves lineup before deadline but idk who he could move to get anyone of quality back. Miller to IL is not good sign; hopefully Birds rebounds with James in house to help rotation.

I’m torn between wishing for a good start from Birdsong or some offense against a lefty. I know I won’t get both and more than likely neither. I didn’t check the SPs before buying tix.

Hopefully case of Chapman lifts all boats.

Adames and Bailey pulling their stats up closer to their career numbers by October would go some ways towards a good second half.

Did anyone notice we signed Austin Barnes? I think he will be our back-up catcher in a week or 2…

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 6, 2025 at 2:50 pm

Been LA primary backup guy since 2017. Dodgers brought up 24 year old prospect Dalton rushing (hitting .207) to back up Wil Smith and let Barnes go. Is C the new SS, where D and handling staff more important than hitting these days?

Randy Rodríguez getting selected for the AS game is great for him, but I still cringe when one of our pitchers gets picked.

years ago Minton had an uneventful inning iirc. And Doval did ok recently. Maybe the curse hits starters hard.

hasn’t Lee seemed uncharacteristically late with his jumps and off with his routes in CF at the Sac ballpark? Or were all of those plays bad luck?

Last time the Giants had 3 A/S players were Posey,Crawford &Gausman..

Still have bad memories of Atlee Hammaker giving up a Grandslam to Fred Lynn, he wasn’t the same pitcher the 2nd half of the season I believe??

The usual torture by Doval but got the W so that’s all that matters! Doval’s K rate is way down, and players are just not missing pitches, his swing and miss stuff is not there this year..

Adames starting to heat up that’s a good sign, get a few more going and that will only help ..

  49. djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 6, 2025 at 10:08 pm

Should they try RR at closer or is he more valuable in his current role?

There’s talk here that Yanks might dangle disappointing closer and FA to be Devin Williams…

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 7, 2025 at 10:15 am

idk, sometimes highest leverage situation happens earlier in game with RISP.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 7, 2025 at 11:35 am

Krukow yesterday crowed about RRs first responder skill –coming in mid inning to put out fires and preserve scores. I haven’t checked the stats but that praise is consistent with my aged recollections.

  52. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 7, 2025 at 12:56 pm

Impressive stats Loo! It clearly shows how dominant RR has been thus The A/S selection only 1 of only 3 relievers selected, I’m sure players thought the same thing about him so maybe helped his selection for sure. He’s a well deserved A/S player for sure, stats don’t lie how dominant he has been..

Hey he’s the future closer no doubt in my book over coconut brain, it’s up to the Giants organization to come to reality on him.
Their still babying some which is understandable and don’t want to use him back to back games to often, the pitching coach JP Martinez ( outstanding job) knows best in his usage imo..

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 7, 2025 at 1:41 pm

I traded tweets with one of the writers about RR’s negative FIP in the first half of April. He’s been great since the first week of the season.

The weather was perfect yesterday in Sacramento, mid 80s. The scale of the stadium was balanced nicely by the sold out crowd. It still felt like a major event. I’d buy season tickets there, if it were my team’s house. Too bad the economics of a 10K stadium don’t work.
