A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Blame Hubie

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 10, 2025

Hubie Doobie and his wife Donna made the trek from Sacramento to see the game yesterday. I knew we were doomed. Every time Hubes tells me he’s making the trek to the game they lose. He was on like a 10 game losing streak until they broke it in Sacramento last week with a win against the A’s. Two in a row was too much to expect.

At least ‘doobie and Donna have a win to brag about. Verlander is jealous.

“I don’t think you can ever have enough pitching”–Posey quoted by Baggs in TA. I don’t think Posey can fix the offense and find a bunch of hitters at deadline. But 2 pitchers might be doable.

Get O’Hearn. Anything is better than Yaz. No one is say ‘get a bunch of hitters.’

      Get an OFer.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 10, 2025 at 8:49 am

Needs suggested here and elsewhere include C 1b and OF, even 2b if Schmitt isn’t to be trusted. O’Hearn is fine option, but he is rental with .840 OPS and will have lot of bidders/won’t come cheap. Bigger ? is who Giants have to sell other teams would be interested in beyond untouchable Eldridge.

Yeah WilleD, “Big ?” It seems every year we ask the same thing: beyond the obvious untouchable(s) who do we have that other teams cld possibly be interested in?

Brewers held LA to 4 runs in 3 game sweep. Can be done!

Didn’t we sign the ex-Dodger catcher? Can’t remember his name.

    NVRMND> It’s Barnes and he’s in Sacto.

Three weeks from TD only sure sellers look to be A’s, ChiSox, Nats and Bucs, with Miami, Atlanta and O’s teetering. Everyone else is within 5 of a WC…

I don’t pay much attention to analysis of other teams, but who will the A’s sell? Their star players except Rooker are rookie or near rookie. Why sell now? Those guys are cheap and powerless. A’s would probably be happy to dump Severino, but who’d want him and his contract? Also, it looks like they signed him only to satisfy some sort of payroll quota demand from mlb. Not that their OFs aren’t ok.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 10, 2025 at 10:00 am

I think I heard Severe Dino is like 0-7 at home field and wants out. Either NY team might grab him from experience. I like the autocorrect of his name so I left it…

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 10, 2025 at 10:04 am

that is good. I think he’s 0-8 at home after the Giants game the other day. And he expressly blamed the ballpark, the fans, and the lack of AC in the clubhouse. WTF would pay him what the A’s are committed to? Hope it ain’t Posey.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 10, 2025 at 10:05 am

well, also, I know nothing about the NY deep pocket approach.

Met fans know Cohen is a bottomless money pit and expect him to buy everything in sight. Yankee fans think Steinbrenner junior is a tightwad compared to dad. Mac probably has better insight…

The A’s have a bunch of young stud OFers. Anyone game to dealing Birdie? Throw in Luciano. Maybe get a pair.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 10, 2025 at 11:55 am

Rooker’s s stud but he’s not great on D. The others are great on D, and baserunning, I guess; their OPSs aren’t worth much. But tweetie (thx DJLoo) and Luciano may not be enough. And would any of them other than Rooker be much better than Yaz? He plays RF at home better than anyone else ever has, imo.

As this team has proven with guys like Gasman, Ray, Rodon, and plenty of others, we can pick up pitchers that suddenly do well here.

Trade what we got for hitters.

  7. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on July 10, 2025 at 12:07 pm

O’Hearn would be a nice pickup, only problem is the O’s usually sit him vs. lefties — he wasn’t in the starting lineup today vs. Mets LHP Peterson, but came in as a pinch-hitter as soon as Mets brought in a righty (he walked).

It seems weird to me that the regular season is over halfway done. It just seems like a quiet season. Even on the national level. Maybe all the stuff happening politically just dwarfed the season this year. What’s a big exciting MLB story nationally?

Maybe it’s the rich getting richer in MLB mirroring what’s happening in society. Seriously, how can the A’s even be an MLB team going forward? Any good players they have will always be traded away before they’re free agents. I doubt being in Las Vegas will change that dynamic much. The Marlins? The Rockies? And all those teams in the middle, just chugging along sort of pointlessly on middling payrolls?

Some athlete in some sport just signed a 2 year/$140 million dollar deal. And got a big tax cut from Congress. The finances of sports is really off-putting. The whole trend of our society is to make the masses feel like peasants. John Lennon said it harshly in a song, something like: You think you’re a working class hero, but you’re just a peasant. He was making his point in a heavy-handed way, but there’s something to it, sort of.

By the way- not diggin’ the camera shots of the clear plastic bats with popcorn in them. What an ecological nightmare. Seriously, how much of our planet are we going to fill with trash landfills? Or maybe a bunch of those bats will end up in that floating island of plastic in the Pacific Ocean that’s the size of Texas.

The Giants competing for a playoff spot is good news. It’s great for the team to be relevant and keeping us interested in the final months of the season. (Where did this season go?!)

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 10, 2025 at 2:59 pm

      That’d s good song.

you think you’re so clever and classless and free
But you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 10, 2025 at 5:09 pm

      Heavy-handed?

Not really. The English school system is akin to psychological torture.

What do you think 1984 is about?

When we grew up and went to school
There were certain teachers who would
Hurt the children any way they could

      Just ask Pink

I find the Vals season pretty darned exciting. They play super hard, and they are relentless. And they’re interesting. They’re not as tall as other teams, overall, but they put five players on the court who play with the ferocity of Dennis Rodman. They can switch on the screen and rolls very well, because all five of their players are pretty similar. They probably still need a super-star player that can eventually take them to higher levels. But any team that takes them lightly, like the Fever did yesterday, is going to get smoked. After the game, the Fever players admitted the Vals played harder and wanted it more, which tells me the Fever took them lightly. The Fever have beaten all the top teams in the standings this year, but it’s predictable they would take the expansion team kind of lightly. Big mistake.

Noticed compliments in Athletic on how well coached Valks are. Friends in Asian b-ball community stoked for Coach Nakase and Caitlin Chen.

  10. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 10, 2025 at 1:11 pm

The Fever won the in-season tournament, and got paid significant money for WNBA players, given what the players’ salaries are. As the league greatly increases revenue, the players, predictably, want a bigger piece of the pie. Any kind of work-stoppage would be a disaster, but we’ve seen this movie before in sports.

Congrats to Mike Brown getting the Knicks headcoach job. He’s a good coach. He did a good job with the Kings, getting them to relevance for a couple of years. NY is a blazing hot spotlight of intense scrutiny, so I wish him well.

Look at all the bombs Loo, 241 of them–Giants led the NL. all the old guys only played 2 month season 2020 and Posey didn’t play at all. Rested up and healthy they romped. 10 different guys wound up with double digit HRs including Slater. Sub guys like Ruf Dickerson D Barrels and Late Night all contributed.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 10, 2025 at 3:29 pm

Belt his 29 HRs with .975OPS in only 97 games before he got hurt. Yaz hit 25 with 28 doubles. Crawford (.895 OPS 30 doubles) Longo (.833 OPS)-none of these guys ever hit like this again.

  14. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 10, 2025 at 2:19 pm

    What’s not to understand Loo?
The whole starters did great,BA,OPS ,OB percentage with Dickerson &Yaz the lowest averages but shit easily Yaz best season with 25 doubles,3 triples &25 HR’s with 71 RBI’s

And the credit goes to hitting coaches Donnie Eckler&Justin Viule preaching patience and selective pitches.Ecker leaves to Texas and wins a W/S ring under Bochy so he must of been doing something right? And we’re stuck with a useless Pat Burrell who adds nothing as a coach..

Btw, Why is Verlander still pitching as the 3rd slot pitcher, when he should be the 5th against opponents usual 5th starter chump, maybe he could get a win in that slot lol 😂

do you think facing all righties (May, Ohtani, Yamamoto) works a little bit in our favor?

      • James's avatar James said, on July 10, 2025 at 5:37 pm

Sure, but I always hate facing any team with a long losing streak, much less one that leads the league in scoring and has been struggling on offense.

If you flip a coin 50 times in a row heads, the 51st time is still 50/50 odds it’ll be heads.

We got our aces lined up so this is about as good a shot as we can possibly have. And not facing a lefty is a good thing.

Watching the Yankee game, a camera shot showed Boone chomping away on gum. I’m not a fan of gum. I did like it when I would buy a pack of baseball cards over 50 years ago. The gum was a blast of sugar and flavor that lasted a few minutes, and the gum made the cards smell great.

Well, good for Boone chewing gum instead of having a wad of tobacco in his mouth.

I fully believe less chewing tobacco in baseball has brought in more women fans, who used to avoid watching baseball because of the nauseating spitting of a brown stream out of their mouths.

So which Giant(s) do you think would in fact be considered untouchable as the deadline approaches? Seems to me Eldridge would be the only position player, plus maybe Whisenhut and one or two other young pitchers. I had Birdsong on the untouchables list a few months ago, and I still think he’s a keeper, until he’s not. Have we missed Harrison? I don’t think so. I’m guessing Buster would entertain offers for just about everybody else, if he can find a team that wants anybody of the “everybody else”….
