A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Bummer Ending To The “First Half”

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 14, 2025

Baseball can be such a shitty game sometimes. Devers rockets a ball to the wall that should have won the game but it gets caught. Freeman bloops some bullshit out there and they win it.

The Matos moment was so cool but if you don’t win the game, eh, whatever. JT Snow’s bomb was cool too, but……

Honestly, we just don’t score enough. One run on Saturday. Zero on Sunday until the fluky Matos pinch hit bomb. I’m not sure what they’re gonna do about this offense.

I would replace Matt Williams with Ruben Rivera immediately…

Sure Jon Miller would love to have Ruben Rivera back Loo🤣🤣

It’s Pat Burrell &Windmill Matty that need to go just step down first with whatever dignity you have left before Posey is just forced to just fires your asses..

Some sobering numbers.. Giants record on the 1st game Devers played 40-32 .555 winning %

Boston record on 1st game without him 37-36 .506

    Giants 12-13 with him .480

    Boston without him 16-9 .640

Since Harrison in the minors and Hicks hurt (and he sucked for us so addition by subtraction) Boston should have lost this trade in the short term as they lost a premier hitter and we lost a middling starter. Apparently not….

The good news is just like Adames (.500 slugging in the last 20+ games) he will hit eventually right?

smacks of the 49ers trade for Dee Ford. Seemingly a great deal that ended up being a nothingburger as he was hurt most of the time. And the chiefs got better with their pick.

Yeah baseball can be so unpredictable,Boston has won 10 straight games to get back in the race only 3 games out at 53-45 now a better record then the Giants..

If there is a bright side to series it was mostly the pitching (except Webb). Even yesterday pen held Dogs off, including Lucchesi. Hopefully Walker can keep building on last few outings.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 14, 2025 at 11:15 am

4 no hit 1 BB scoreless innings for Walker R Rod Doval and Lucchesi after Ray left, and he only gave up 3 hits 2 BBs to 23 guys he faced in 6 innings.

Watching freeman and the amount of times he’s killed us I though a walk here wouldn’t be a bad idea.

  8. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 14, 2025 at 11:34 am

It’s always the pitching that’s keeping this team alive, it’s the freaking Inconsistently of the hitters that are killing them!

I’m ok with Lucchesi for sure with Walker out and for how long is the question, but know way Alexander should be here. They really should go after a LH reliever at the deadline.

Same goes with an outfielder with speed and have Yaz the 4th outfielder, I really like Marlins OF Jesus Sanchez can play all 3 spots and he’s just 27 he would be a good fit..

Devers lower back “disc injury” is not good. He can bat but he can’t run much? Yeah well he can’t hit much either.

Lee has had some very shitty ABs and some misplays in CF since he took a day to rest his back. based entirely on personal experience with good pain meds, I wonder…

Not too long before he died, David Crosby had something on his blog or podcast or whatever it was; a young musical group had sent him some of their songs to listen to and asked for advice on how to succeed because they just didn’t seem to be able to get a break. Crosby’s brief reply: Try writing better songs. What to do about this offense? Try (again) getting better hitters. I give Buster a lot of credit for doing just that, but if Devers is not going to be effective because of that disc problem (been there, it’s not easy to just “fix”), then Buster needs to go out and get another hitter. Or two. OF, 1B, and C are still areas that can be improved. I do believe there will be a trade or two coming.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 14, 2025 at 6:55 pm

If Devers ain’t gonna be what everyone expected, then what’s the point?

      • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on July 14, 2025 at 6:59 pm

Devers has been a professional hitter throughout his career, and he’s only 28. No way Giants will get 8 full good years out of him, but there’s also no way he’s not going to hit…. unless his back is forever fucked. Extremely disappointing he hasn’t been able to do more, but I hope that doesn’t make Buster gun shy.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 14, 2025 at 7:19 pm

I think Buster is pretty done for this year, especially with all the competition and lack of sellers. Maybe they can find someone at the very end of his career like Joe Carter about 30 years ago…

      • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on July 14, 2025 at 7:26 pm

Yes, maybe something like that. I mean, he’s not going to replace the whole roster, and it might take just one key player to put them over the top. I’m guessing he thought Devers might be that guy, but he isn’t at this time. I remember back in offseason before ’02 WS season, Sabes talked about one more piece, and he picked up Reggie Sanders, who seemed to help put that team over the top. I have no idea who that player could be now, but… but… Still think there will be something.

If Adames and Devers don’t each have an 800+ OPS the rest of the way, I doubt there’ll be another player Buster can get to make up for that deficiency. If they do hit as they’re paid to do, the offense should be good enough.

Slusser in Chron talking up Rooker as trade target. already has 20 HRs, owed $60 million through 2029. I just don’t get who A’s (or any other team Giants would get bat from) would ask for–does anyone want Fitz Wisely Luciano or McCray? Giants best prospects for position players are likely at A or AA ball and years away. Other than that it would only be young controllable pitching; imo Giants might not have enough of that to get through this season, let alone future.

  21. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 15, 2025 at 8:34 am

Birdie, Lucky and a lower level pitcher. Whisenhunt. Everyone but Eldridge should be on the table if they want to really go after this.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 15, 2025 at 9:33 am

Roupp has already pitched same amount of innings (96) he pitched all last season with 65 games left. Doubt he makes 12 more starts. Who takes over rest of back end of rotation that as of now includes Birds and Verlander?

  22. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 15, 2025 at 10:45 am

There is no way the Giants are trading Birdsong,Chuck he’s only going to get better u just have to have patience with the young pitchers same with Roupp, imo has pitched really good!

Team needs to address a LH reliever, Miller might not be back with his ulnar sprain elbow a huge loss.I can live with Luchessi for now but no way with Alexander he’s just not very good.

I’m looking at Switch Hitter Willi Castro from the Twins only 28 having a solid year, good OPS, fast,SB’s ,Good D,Arm .Also Jesus Sanchez OF Marlins another solid player.Either team will want prospects it’s worth a trade if Posey can reach a package that fits either team.

Another SP ( cause I’m not in with Verlander holding up anyway) Maybe a Lefty like Pirates Andrew Heaney could be had on the cheaper prospects list.I doubt D-Backs would deal within the division but Merrill Kelly an experience pitcher would be great as well.Sugano Orioles another guy could be on their radar..

Another Catcher ..My dream would be Sean Murphy since the Braves are fading,he would be ideal match with Bailey since he’s right handed with pop, while Bailey is a better hitter batting left.. Wish list .Giants supposed to be buyers unless they tank next few weeks so let’s get some players..

  23. Locojuan's avatar Locojuan said, on July 15, 2025 at 2:34 pm

I doubt that ownership will go for another lengthy contract, so like Loo suggested, a rental like a Josh Bell type would probably be the way they go. I agree with Kat, another catcher would be a great idea, Bailey’s numbers always seem to drop in the second half.

Is there a Marco Scutaro rental out there? I’m not completely sold on Schmitt at 2B.

  24. djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 15, 2025 at 2:38 pm

If things were to really go south in the next 2 weeks, teams be lining up for Rachel & Rogers. There was much debate here some years back about whether or not the Giants should hang on to Bum and Will Smith at the deadline. Kind of similar I guess…

  25. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 15, 2025 at 3:45 pm

The way baseball is built now, there’s hope for most of the teams.

You gotta be real shitty to not have a shot at .500. Which is pretty much the baseline for playoff teams.

AZ went all-in last year and got very close to winning it all after scuffling for 3 months.

Now they are down, but was that because they shot their wad last year and failed? Or is it just hard to be consistent without spending a billion dollars?

Chances are it won’t matter what the fuck they do, but watching them sit on their thumbs under Farhan was an absolute fucking drag. Who can forget Mark Canha? Or AJ Pollack?

    They’d better do something.

  26. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 15, 2025 at 4:07 pm

That’s the difference between Dumbshit Farhan and Posey and probably now tight wad Greggie who finally believes in his GM (Z for sure was getting go cheap as possible so they end up with Pollock that steamed everyone) Posey has more pull especially the Devers trade that shocked every GM /Owner at the time.

There definitely buyers right now unless they blowup in 2 weeks then they would sell like pork bellies and OJ concentrate Trading Places!

O’Hearn’s a rental. He won’t us cost shit.

What did it cost to get Kris Bryant? It cost us  Alexander Canario and Caleb Kilian. Click their illustrious status statii stats to revel in their greatness.

Canario is in the Dominican league and Kilian is bouncing between AA and AAA in the Cubbies organization.

And Bryant was a fuck-ton better than O’Hearn.

If they do nothing, Buster is following the path of least resistance.

  29. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on July 15, 2025 at 6:34 pm

Giants don’t need to try to land a player or players who are even close to being superstars. Those same 3 needs in the offseason are still needs — a RFer who’s a better hitter than Yaz/Matos, a 1st-bagger who’s better than whoever is playing 1st these days, and a co-catcher who’s better than…. again, whoever the hell is there now. These are not high bars, and current Giant prospects could certainly be enough.

I kinda liked the “homeroff”. NL out of pitchers. If they used a closer for 2-3 innings that team is screwed. No that there is interleague play the panache of a league winning it is long over.

Article in Athletic says SF has hope because they have 4 all star type players and not once all season have two of them hot at the same time. Let alone 3 and possibly all 4. . If you include Lee we have not had one stretch where 2 are hot at the same time except when Flores and Lee were raking in April and look what happened then. Add Schmidt getting regular AB’s at 2nd and we will score some runs soon.
