Flapper Undercover
A little known fact is that San Dawg has been going to these games in Toronto. I believe he’ll be there again today, too.
Heart surgery AND his house burned down? Goddamn. Loo reminded me that Twinner had his house burn down, too. Apparently Flappers shouldn’t play with fire….
We suck at baseball. End of the season can’t come soon enough.
Well they’re still in the thick of the wild card muck. Wanna sell Ray and Rogers and restock the minors? Where do they have to be on 7/31 to decide?
Jays have 24 hits in 2 games of 8 innings. Giants have 0 BBs/21 Ks.
Doubt it’s a coincidence that first 2 guys Posey drafted profile as contact hitters, as opposed to Eldridge pick a year ago.
thought comment by lexluth7 on MCC was good one; “Toronto plays like the team Buster wants.” they put the ball in play throughout the lineup (webb couldn’t get out bottom of lineup when he needed to) and don’t K much (4 over 2 games so far). Webb couldn’t put guys away either with 2 strikes yesterday–they lit him up just like they did Verlander. Sobering thought.
Here’s another one: Giants owe Lee $88 million on rest of his deal. Might be it for Yaz and Flores but Lee and rest of OF another issue entirely.
5 k’s to 20.
5 games over .500 and 1.5 games out of wild card spot in July 21st. Think most of us would have signed for that back in March.
Problem is recent trends. Since reaching high water mark 12 games over .500 and tied for 1st with Dodgers on June 14th, Giants 11-18. They’ve lost 6 series, won only 3 and split 1. Offense has vanished and pitching is showing cracks, especially Verlander & Birdsong but also Walker & Doval. Miller on IL big loss and even Webb little inconsistent.
Brewers putting distance from rest of wild card contenders so Giants realistically one of 5 teams battling for 2 wild card spots. Not sure it’s wise to acquire rentals at trade deadline especially if it cost Giants any of their very few top prospects in minors.
Posey has made three significant moves in past year – resigning Chapman and acquiring Adames & Devers. Last two moves have definitely underperformed to date but body of work suggests both will deliver if not this year then next. Perhaps stick with current roster with possible marginal moves at trade deadline. If Giants reach playoffs, great. If not, continue strengthening team in offseason and wait for 2026.
good stuff Dean .. always the voice of reason.
Wow, Lee @ leadoff … they are reading the Flap!
proof is in the pudding!
Knizner hits the way many Giants fans think the entire line up should approach every AB.
What, making contact?
Or swinging like a pussy to no good effect.
Goddamnit! Ramos..ugh.. I guess the sun in the outfield is tricky, but still …
If only Ramos was as good as Fred Lewis out there.
can’t rewind Roku?
Nope, no rewind function on Roku. But I’m accessing on MLB and all the usual functions are present and accounted for. Try that Chuck.
when things are going bad, nothing goes right. Robo umps can’t come fast enough
A walk!
¿Qué coño es eso, Vamos?
Knizner’s our best all around player today.
That was inevitable as soon as I posted my comment.
Kinzer 2for2 RBI knocks In Chapman picks up Wisely who battled but pop up which was dropped but infield fly rule so your out!
Freaking Ramos K’s going after shit away 1 run it is as usual they can’t get another big hit!!
”as usual they can’t get another big hit!!” Yeah Kat, and this has been going on for quite awhile now. I think it is just a phase and it will pass .. but sheesh, it is difficult to watch, and if it will end before we knock ourselves of any kind of contention is the question.
And Boom just like that the jays get that run back as Ray gives up a HR to Springer’m 4-2 !!
Ray is done now a double before Mel turd finally pulls him !5 walks 2HR’s a double yikes on 95 pitches??
Such a struggle for the Giants just to get 1 run and Jays get it back with one swing.
And then some.
Giants look listless, disinterested and frustrated. Or am I describing Giants fans.
Probably both. Who saw Webb and Ray getting hammered?
San Dawg I guess…
I don’t see them being sellers later this month. Who the fuck do we have who anyone would want? (Contracts considered.).
I don’t either, Xoot but it is a seller’s market – Tyler making scraps as a rental and Rachel has $35M coming thru next season. Wilmer and Yaz also on the poverty list as rentals…
Mr. Ed would be a great feel-good pickup for Mets…
those two suggestions of course make sense. As you’d expect from Loo. Although Ray’s struggles and dip in velocity today would give me pause. And I remain convinced that Rogers will still be in the giants pen five years from now.
The comment refresh on the Jetpack app is pretty slow. My redundant question a result of that.
I intended to respond to your support for DJLoo’s insight too.
I was just pissed off when I made my original comment.
You don’t think anyone would be interested in Ray or Rogers, per Loo?
And the ballgame is officially over as Barger hits a 2Run Homer another 4 run inning as it’s now 7-2 in this sweep! 79% contact rate for the season by Jays says it all.Giants could only dream about that stat!!
Lee is our best contact hitter. His rate is 87%.
Signs of life this inning as Giants trim lead to 2. Can someone out of pen pls hold Jays off scoreboard?
Nope.
Goddammit!
well, at least they are not going down without a fight.
Bottom of the order starting with Chapman at 6 spot 7-10 !
Lee basehit! Wow 7-6 !!
Fuck Lee called out at 2nd on replay challenge inning over they got 4 back but left Devers on deck..
Oops make that Ramos..
last couple of innings is best G’s offense has looked in sometime. Lee leading off may be of no consequence but … ?
Devers undelivers again.
Jays team ERA only 10th AL coming into today and they give up 3rd most HRs. Giants aren’t out of this one yet.
Melvin is so retarded he wais this long to finally put Lee in leadoff spot where he BELONGS!
Ramos leadoff double, then Devers strikes out! Pitching change coming in and on cue Adames strikes out, and Yaz weak ground out and they don’t score!! It’s the Giants Way tease you then fail..
this ump will be amusing next year.
He’s Verlanders favorite ump, who tossed his ass, only thing good he’s done all year.,
Lucchesi did his part. Held them off with 2 no hit innings.
Gotta get 3.
I meant runs, not outs. Sheesh.
Giants leave Canada dry.
goose eggs in the win column
Line of the weekend.
I stole that from Yanks announcer after they got swept in Toronto earlier this month.
Give up eight, chance of winning ain’t great…
Johnny Cochran fan, Snarkk?
Damn, gotta find a way to stop myself from watching this shit .. driving me nuts!
Yup. That last Dodger loss soured me bad for the rest of the year.
Oh, me of little faith.
Seems to be that when I get down on them they bounce back.
Atl don’t seem the right place to do that tho. Shitty record or no. I think it’s time to go.
And the sweep 🧹 is completed by Jays to add on to the last 2by the Dogpile as they have lost 5 straight!! Oh Canada 🇨🇦 Bluejays are rolling on!
Oh Cana-duh !!!
score 6, give up 8.
give up 2, score none.
2007 all over again
The 1986 team had a 7-game gap between expected and actual wins, 90 and 83, respectively. One game worse than 2007.
And . . . . should I have referenced 1986?
I just remember in 2007 we set the table endlessly and didn’t score much.
That feeling of frequently scoring runs at the wrong time, thought that’s what you were getting at, so I looked up 2007 and then relied on Google AI to find the 1986 team. Didn’t bother to check whether or not 1986 was in fact the worst year. 7 seems like a relatively small figure.
Here’s a link to one ranking of MLB hitters based on how well they hit the ball:
https://tinyurl.com/25t6bmz5
If you look at the whiff percentage, you’ll see that there’s not much correlation between being a top hitter and how many times you swing and miss relative to other players.
As for the absolute virtue of putting the ball in play, remember Duane Kuiper, whose motto was “put the ball in play and not much will happen.”
Toronto is a good team, fairly impressive to watch. The catcher Kirk is an unholy blend of Altuve and Pablo S.
now that the microplastic dust has settled, I think the “double” that Ramos misplayed was the worst gaffe of the game. It led directly to the loss. Bad sun? Maybe. I’d be very pleased to see his D begin to improve as he works on it with the coaches. As if, huh?
He seemed like an adequate defensive player, the kind of OFer you needed additional metrics to tell you he wasn’t as ok as you thought. No such metrics needed now. He’s only 25. Usually the decline into unacceptable D happens after 30. He needs a good play or two to make sure things don’t deteriorate further.
Ramos fucked up yesterday as well. Tougher play but still he shoulda had it.
That kid Barger (14 HR’s 42 RBI’s) is going to be a Superstar some day, I could only dream of having him in RFj over are old aged out Yaz out there..
How is he not nicknamed “Sonny” for 2 ridiculously obvious reasons??
Yeah I was thinking the same thing Loo after the 1st game!
Sonny Barger the main founding bad ass dude for the Hells Angels, was he at Altamont when the Stones played and a kid was knifed to death while the Hells Angels were supposedly doing security?
The kid was gonna shoot Mick Jagger. He had pulled a pistol on one of the Angels.
My sis was there. She saw the naked chick running around but not the knifing.
No way he’d miss that one, Kat.
And Blue Jay Barger’s first name is Addison! Are they asleep in Toronto? They could market the fuck out of it and have some fun doing it…
Endless walk-up song possibilities. Alright I’m done…
First time seeing Skubal this season. Really impressive vs. Bochy’s.
Still in the WC hunt, so they might think they can still get a difference-maker by the deadline to aid the cause, but that’s starting to make less sense if they actually need more than one difference-maker. This current stretch of sub-mediocrity shouldn’t be surprising: it was pretty well recognized in the off-season that they needed to upgrade starters in RF and 1B and get a decent co-catcher, but they didn’t, despite some other somewhat ballsy moves by the FO along the way. At this point, I’d hate to see them trade any potentially valuable future pieces now in a likely futile attempt at making the post-season this year. They’re not *that far* from being a solid contender, but it didn’t have to happen this year in year 1 of the new regime. Year 2 is ok. 🙂
They traded squat for Bryant. They can certainly trade more squat for O’Hearn.
They won’t even remain in a W/C race if they keep Pat Burrell on , he needs to go before the deadline just for morale purposes , just another hitting coach with better attitude wouldn’t hurt.Stats don’t lie over the last 2 years as hitting coach they’ve awful!
My trade line pickups if still buying..
OF ..Jesus Sanchez,Willy Castro,Grichuk
Catcher ..Sean Murphy Braves perfect match for Bailey with more power..
LHP reliever with Miller out for probably the season is a huge loss! Columbe,Jax,Twins?
Id be all over Twins&Marlins for deals maybe Whitesox’s/Nationals as well..
Joel Selvin wrote a pretty definitive book about the Altamont festival. There’s no evidence the young black man ever intended to shoot anyone. He shouldn’t have brought a gun to the festival, but maybe he anticipated bringing his white girlfriend to the event would cause some issues. Which it did. His bright green suit and blond girlfriend caught the attention of the Hell’s Angels. They verbally and even physically harassed him, and he eventually pulled out the gun to probably just scare them, but got stabbed by a Hell’s Angel. Later the Hell’s Angels regretted ever being a part of the festival. Any attempts to help their image by participating had been ruined forever.
Three other festival-goers died. A stoned guy fell in a nearby canal and drowned, and two guys were hit by a car and killed. Think of those thousands of festival-goers wandering in the dark, over those hills, trying to find their cars when the event was over.
The Hell’s Angels were already in a foul mood because, after their grand entrance on their motorcycles, they parked them near the stage, and audience-members kept crowding up and bumping and jostling their motorcycles. The young black man in the green suit with the white girlfriend near the stage became a convenient focus for their anger.
Marty Balin of the Airplane famously and heroically tried to defend someone from the Angels, and got punched for his efforts.
The Altamont event was a nightmare on every level.
Does this mean you don’t want to nickname the Toronto kid Sonny?
Both Birds (Illinois ) and Roupp (NC) used to warm summers. Hopefully they can handle ATL.
Bum used to say it was easier for him to get loose in warmer weather. Summer in SF means 60s for night games.
