What Was That?
Seriously, what happened. I have a vague recollection that it starts with a W but after that I got nuthin’.
Agree with James about Schmitt. If he has learned to even pretend to lay off those breaking balls then he’s going to make it up here and be incredibly valuable to that line up. Goddamn he hits long home runs when he hits them.
I still don’t understand the point of Devers at first base. He’s going to give up more runs with his shitty defense than he’s going to produce with his bat although I admit that yesterday was a good start.
Loved Mac’s “Roupp the stopper!” from last night. Yes he was, followed by Hjelle Lucchesi and Seymour lol. Got the W and saved pen. Nicely done all around.
If Verlander can go 5 today, maybe the Giants could get him one of those newfangled W things.
On the one hand, yes, his D probably won’t match even Wade Jr.’s. I would also think playing the field injured won’t help said injury. It might not work out at all. But on the other hand, Devers wants to play, he wants to be more engaged, and if his body can handle it, it might just improve his whole outlook and perhaps performance. He looked kinda happy out there. If Eldridge if indeed on the way at some point, then this is likely short term anyway, but hey, if he starts hitting as he has in the past, then that solves the lack of power at 1B problem…. We’ll see, but at this point, as hard as I’ve been on DimBulb MoTel, I give him credit for trying this.
he leaves the light half on?
Mo tel uses an old school clapper”:Clap on Clap off”👏
Devers said the exact things in SF Chron story you said–he feels more into it when he’s on the field and wants to be out there on the field as opposed to in the cage hitting. “It keeps me active.”
Shit, trade Chappie back to the A’s with Birdie for Rooker. Throw in a couple mid-level minor leaguers. Put Devers back at 3rd.
I just hope they score runs today. Their usual MO is to go quiet after a big burst.
Strider not having a great year, but he’s still very likely not going to give up a lot of hits. The usual recipe against a guy like this: make him throw lots of pitches, get your 3-4 walks, and hope for a big hit or two.
13 pitches all ready. Two batters.
34 to get two outs. He should bd able to go two, right? Ridiculous.
This looks really familiar
Verlander has already lost the battle of attrition. JFC. They haven’t gone out of the zone once against him.
There’s no way Verlander makes it thru 5 to get a win, best we can hope for is he puts up zeroes for however long he lasts.
On average, a team hits between 25-30 foul balls over 9 innings. Never looked that up before. The Braves have 14 in two innings.
Leadoff followed by the usual results.
*double*
Not being able to hit with RISP, check
Nice grab from Ramos. V has only thrown 1 more pitch than Strider, 0 runs allowed.
Ramos great catch he definitely comes in on balls over being lost going back.
V big pitch count, lots of foul balls& 4 walks but no hits allowed
Boom!
And one!
Dang, have to be strong to do that.
Devers bomb!
Impressive one handed HR by Devers all lower body strength!
Chappy 2-run oppo bomb!
oooh. play by play with good news
We homer we win . . .
Nice job wearing down Strider.
Middle of the order with pop! Gotta like that.
Yes sir now a Chappy hits a 2run Homer, 2nd in the inning 3-0
Guess Strider has lost his Stride this inning!
Verlander aiming for the 5 inning no hitter.
Whaddya know, Verlander thru 5 — 0 runs, 1 hit, and a chance for a W!
What’s the phrase — against all odds?
Jinked him James on that cheap hit oh well get thru 5 unscathed!
And he does! BP next unless he talks Clapper into 1 more?
Bailey, WTF was that? One out, you’re already at second, in scoring position. Even if the SS throws to first and gets the out, now it’s two outs, and only a hit or a passed ball get you home. And, there’s a hit by Ramos that would have driven him in.
Bonehead base running, yet again.
Another base running blunder.Bailey already in scoring position takes off for 3rd in a play to the left side of SS easy out! That’s little league any ball hit to left you hold up the middle you go!
Devers 3-run bomb!
Payback!
the Devers we expected! Very nice.
Devers likes playing in the heat, obviously. 2 dingers.
Seriously, he probably is and will take some more time getting used to playing/hitting in the cold of Oracle.
Ohh Fuck yes after getting his head almost taken off Devers say take this shit buttwad a 3Run Homer! 2nd of the game 4RBI’s !!
With last nights game and today’s game. If this is the potential of this offense, They should make the playoffs this year. Granted only 2 games but this is the best the offense has look all year long
Raffy..”God has Healed “
Oh Yeah! Puttin the Big Hurt on em today .. AGAIN!!
plunk Olson.
You ask me if there’ll come a time
When I grow tired of you,
Devers my love, Devers my Love…
Chapman Devers Ramos: scored 5 drove in 6. these guys hit, others don’t matter.
At last! Win #263!
I don’t expect them to score 9 runs every game, but 4-6 runs should be doable with these hitters
Good comeback in the last two games from the embarrassing debacle in the first game of the series. Verlander gets a win, but seems bittersweet to me. He has massive problems finishing off hitters. Tons of fouled balls, control is spotty — both generate really high pitch counts per AB and too many walks. I don’t see how this continues to a good result unless the squad flips the usual script and gets a lot of runs for this guy every game…
I guess MoTel 6 gets his kudos for putting Devers on the field. He’s suddenly hitting balls hard.

Chapman x Ray negative
V stays. Wasn’t pretty but went 5 with 0 runs and outdueled Strider, dang site better than Ray or Webb last starts.
Giants already have to find one SP to cover for Birds. Might be able to do it via trade, maybe not considering other areas of need Posey might choose to address. Giants only have so much of value to deal away.
what can they get for Luciano and Doval? Actually a few others not named Eldridge or Whiz have been doing ok at sac. Id hate to see any more recent first rounders go from the lower minors.
Birdsong needs to bear down in aaa and come back as the assassin out of the pen he pitched like before his promotion.
I’ve read they were talking ot Pittsburg seeking middle infield help.
Verlander ALWAYS struggles. He doesn’t come close to dominate ABs. He threw just 55 strikes over 98 pitches in just 5 frames today.
There’s no indication in today’s win that his next start will show any improvement over that season-long history…
He didn’t give up a run I don’t care how much he struggles if he can last 5 like that.
So, what happens his next cratering start(s), and they didn’t cut him before the deadline? If you’re predicting he’s fixed now, let us know what evidence there is of that. He’s a poor 5th starter, that’s it.
Hey guys. Hope you’re all well. Been taking care of personal issues in Sunnyvale.
So, what has changed with the Giants? Two wins against bottom feeder Atlanta?
I think what you guys have been saying the last 2 plus weeks prior to these 2 games is spot on and relevant. All hitting team metrics show us in the bottom third of MLB, e.g., 21st runs, 26th batting average, 22nd on base %, 27th slugging %. Pitching metrics show us getting worse – not better (17th in WHIP and 14th in batting average allowed).
I would consider everyone on this team as a trade candidate. No one should be untouchable. Moreover, our 3-7 record in the last 10 games shows clearly that we should be sellers, not buyers. Forgot who said this – but we haven’t even had a .500 + monthly record since April. That’s the story, not these 2 games.
hey, I said that ! 😉
Tip of my hat to you Mike!
Hope springs eternal . . .
Thing is, they’ve done this before. Get cold with the bats and lose a bunch. Suddenly they wake up and roll. The pitching was great for a long time but now it is wobbly. Harrison, Birdie, and Verlander have been pretty much fails in the rotation. Which is the real team?
I mean really, the team is built better than last year’s. However, they still have guys like Yaz and Wisely who simply take up space.
But the fact remains that if the new guys Adames and Devers even remotely play to their abilities, we could reel off a bunch of wins.
I would really like to see them do something about RF. And a combo of Whisenhunt and a trade to get at least 2 SPs is needed.
1st base will be just a spot for Devers to play till they trade Chappie.
Schmitt, Adames, and Devers can be the IFers till they bring up Eldridge.
We still haven’t seen Rafael make a tough pick at 1B. Maybe reserve judgment there. Buster has said that he wants to stretch out the young pitchers(Roupp eg) but does that apply to Whiz who’s also reached his previous max already this year?
I wonder if Eldridge will be getting some time in the OF soon?
Good ?, but I think Encarnacion is playing RF for Sac. thanks for V prompt this morning!
Just keep thinking, Bryce is still learning 1B. and he was drafted as pitcher/OF, so OF might be his best fit if they bring him up this year. I totally forgot about Encarnacion, maybe the beer leaguer will be part of a package for a LH relief guy.
Chapman has full no trade clause, turns 33 in April and is signed through 2030 at 25M/year. Where’s he going?
to Busters house for thanksgiving
Didn’t know that. Thanks, DJ.
Oh well. Chappie stays at 3rd. Devers ain’t bery good at 3rd anyway. Schmitt can play 2nd.
Eldridge can take Yazzzzzzzzzzz’z spot.
31-28 gets SF to 85-77…same pct. that got M’s in WC last year. took 89 Ws in NL.
Yeah Steve, probably wise to not get too excited after 2 good games following a bunch of losses. However…. Through all these sub-.500 months after the good April, I’ve been thinking the opposite: April was who this team can be, and it was puzzling to me why they were being so mediocre since then. Just didn’t make sense, especially the hitters not hitting. Sometimes it takes just one little thing to tip things in the right direction. *Maybe* putting Devers at 1B will be that thing. Suddenly, 1B has a power bat, don’t need to think about that anymore. Now it’s just a piece or two at the deadline. I ain’t overly excited, yet, but I do feel like ‘slip slidin’ away’ is a thing of the past. We shall see. Maybe.
Don’t see any reason we can’t continue this little streak. Yesterday’s game was impressive. And the baseball Gods are a fickle bunch.
