That was a tough one. Yes, they only scored 1 run (again). But The Hooligan’s ball was a home run in 29 other parks. And Bailey smashed his. It just got caught.
Bad luck.

Helluva play by Alonso who should’ve been a Giant. Way better than Richardson/McCovey in ’62…
Yes it was. Bailey stung that and Giants hit 2 rockets off Diaz with nothing to show for it.
Said this before but I was sitting in 6th grade class at Ellis School across town in Sunnyvale watching Mac’s lineout. Thought for sure Giants would get back but that group never did.
G-Head another deserter…
flores would make great PH but no room for one these days.
the ferocity of the bottom of the order in the ninth left me feeling less depleted than I expected to be. Rationally, I know this is likely just a .500 team. Still, I want to see Buster add some pop this week. Fucking go for it.
I don’t think putting Devers the Juggler at 1B would be consistent with that approach. Ever.
Yeah but I still wonder with a team supposedly with a lot of sluggers it’s Flores ( Devers most of his damage in the AL and and Chapman down for an injury) it’s always Flores leading this team ( not counting last year) in the clutch hits and RBI’s 59 this year..Why can’t Ramos,Adames,Chapman do more damage consistently?
Flores does great job hitting with RISP (over .300), but the other 75% of time he’s become Mendoza line hitter. He has 4 rbis in July all from that one game when he homered (his only one this month) vs. Braves, and he had 1 HR all of June. He’s been great Giant but this has to be end of the line.
If teams didn’t need so many pitchers there would be spot for him on rosters, but no longer.
9 hits, 1 run.
Guess the Giants are going to let the Mets sweep them going with a BP game of openers like Gage& Highway to Hjelle! White Flag Custer game..
Just gotta hopethe Mets got wasted last night with the series win under their belts.
Surprised by semi-upbeat mood expressed on blog this morn. I don’t share in it. Simply believe Giants have too many holes in everyday lineup. Don’t endorse going all in at trade deadline Thurs.
Posey has improved roster with Devers and Adames. Give them year to adapt to Oracle while Posey adds more pieces and pitching depth in winter. Giants were far too removed from elite teams to be fixed in one year. In my mind this is about 2026 & more likely 2027 edition of Giants.
why not add pieces now? Sign the right ones and they’ll bs around to boost the roster next year, too. Meanwhile, take the long shot left in this season.
be around
I agree Xoot, add some players with controllable contracts to add value and depth!
I’m wondering now since Wish was scratched from his start, that he might Start todays game?Of course roster moves would have to be made since he’s not on the 40 man eligible list I believe, just a thought?he might start?
I hope he’s not being traded. But, be careful what you wish for, as they say.
Of course I also predicted Dewey to beat Truman in ‘48 so what do I know.
Agree with Dean and stated this at the end of the previous thread . . . “Padres win on the road against the Cards, 3-1, in a 9th inning bench clearing (due to Machado being hit not once, but twice in the game). Fired up? Looks like it. Meanwhile, the Giants fall again at home and are a pathetic 2-10 in last 12 games. Please explain to me how Buster is convinced this team has the collective nut sack to make a run at the playoffs? Me thinks he should sell, sell, sell! There isn’t a fucking player on this team that is untouchable. Get a head start on the hot stove season by improving the team NOW before the trade deadline ends.”
Giants should get rid of the dead wood on this team where they possibly can score some good minor league prospects off of legitimate playoff teams.
Whether we sell, buy or stand still we’re all frustrated with essentially 10 years of lousy baseball (2021 the outlier). My reticence on buying spree this week is (1) we get 2-month rental in exchange for trading our one or two marketable minor league commodities (though absent Eldridge who’s going nowhere not sure if Giants have anything of value in minors today) or (2) we trade for aging veteran whose got couple more years on his contract after 2025 and we get saddled with him for another couple years thereby tieing up roster spot.
My pessimism this morning is also born out of staring at standings. It’s hard not to consider Mets, Phils, Brewers, Cubs and our hated southern Cal rivals as locks for playoffs. That leaves one spot.
Probably so as far as WC goes, but gap btw SF and Padres is only couple games and Giants play them 7 times next month. Not much to choose from btw Cards Reds SF SD and AZ is aleady selling.
Totally agree with blade.
But, the business side will tell Posey to buy somebody. Can’t show the fans that this season is a charade. Exactly the wrong thing to do. This Giants lineup has more holes than the holiest Swiss cheese. Sell and rebuild with quality high minors talent that can play, can run, that can HIT. Like I’ve said before, excluding pitching, compare the oppo position by position against the Giants, and most of the time, I’d take the oppo player, hands down…
Even Cronkite is now saying the division is unwinnable…
“And that’s the way it is, Sunday, July 27, 2025…”
As Scoop Nisker used to say, ” If you don’t like the news go out and make some of your own.” Maybe Posey makes some news in next week.
He’s got good numbers. WAR 28, 422 saves, 0.998 WHIP. But, I never really considered Billy Wagner a HOFer. Just didn’t seem that special to me. Maybe if I’d seen him more?
Ichiro is another story. Unique player. No question he’s a HOFer. WAR 60, Hits 3089, 264 hits for the one-season record. Great arm. Great instincts. Great baserunner. Great situational batter. Career BA at .311, but Career OPS a little lower than I expected — at .757. Add in his Japan League stats and its all off the charts. Nice to see Richie Allen and Dave Parker get in. Though, this posthumous HOF entry is complete crap. If they are good enough to get in, put them in while they are alive and in good enough shape to enjoy it…
Committee people actually went to Parker’s house and gave him hat and award. He was very ill and has been suffering from Parkinson’s for many years but was fully aware of what was being done. Too late but any physical appearance by him the family agreed was out of the question.
“We put on his HOF jersey and gave him his HOF cap in Cincinnati and he was very, very aware of what it meant. You could just see how powerful that moment was. We’re all very grateful he was able to experience all that before he passed. ” Son David II
Glad to hear that.
What took so long to vote and enshrine, so that that scenario had to suffice for the public celebration he should have had before today? Same for Richie Allen, and Ron Santo? When Bonds and Clemens are dead, then are they going to vote them in? A pox on the baseball HOF…
If your visiting Cooperstown, there’s a lot more fun things to than going to the HOF…
Think Devers makes that play?
! cue Ron Washington.
There’s the difference between a good team and the Giants. Hitters on good teams at least make contact with men in scoring position, productive RBI-producing outs. Giants, like in the first inning, consistently K and otherwise gag any contact with RISP at less than two outs. Nothing will change this without changing the players…
no vamos! Fucking idiot.
Ramos, just giving an out away. Will this idiotic, suicidal base running ever end?
Giants now 0-19 with RISP in this series. Pathetic.
Think Oracle is in Devers’ head yet?
Seriously wtf is wrong with Ramos besides brain dead!! A tapper by Adames that was going to be a hit to 3rd and Ramos runs into an easy 3rd out by the 3rd baseman..God this team has no idea how to play “Heads up freakin baseball as always!!!”
Because they don’t understand the exceptions to the “run on anything with 2 out” rule…
Actually if he’d simply run hard to third, he would have made it easily. He stopped running. In other words, it was even more idiotic and frustrating that he was out.
Things like this are becoming routine with Ramos. MoTel6 is supposed to handle that ain’t he?
Bivens is in the Swiffer role tonight….
Nice throw on move by Bivens to start inning ending GIDP.
Nice swifter mop up by Bivens for DP..
Chapman’s HR had the sound…
The announcers of course don’t touch on the implications of NY and SF’s identical RISP Stats. No one would much notice the Giants’ 231 batting average with RISP if they also had the Mets’ 733 team OPS.
I was about to type the exact same thing…
Haha
espn did put up a graphic showing how shitty Soto has been with anyone on base. I have the sound off so I don’t know if the asswipes on the mics said anything about it.
Buster interview was almost as interesting as a test pattern…
Lucchese’s wind-up is a thing of ugly…
It looks a little like Mulholland’s.
And as usual as Melvin says yeah the tanks about empty with Bivens and we’re probably pull him at 60 pitches, so of course he gives up back to back double and gets his 60 pitches in and the lead of course! What a moron with the 2nd hitter a lefty and Luchessi ready..
Very disappointing that Adames was on first.
Chapman have a night 2HR’s all 3 RBI’s!’
Every time I am about to write this guy Chapman off, he has a game like this. Nevertheless, I wish he wasn’t so “feast or famine.”
Another home run at O’Hare…
I think that’s the first big blast I’ve seen hit with one of those bowling pin bats.
O’Neil’s had the crack and sound, bet he’s pissed that was out in 29 parks again but not here lol 😂
RR in too early. WTF?
You’re right.
Dever On Sunday…
Yaz is always good for a loud foul ball…
Hjelle’s in a jam again. But in the ninth? WTF?
Nothing new Hjelle is used to jams , just ask his wife..
V.A. is managed better than Giants pen…
Where the hell is everyone? What is it Gay Night at Momo’s?
Am I the only one that wants Ramos to still bat? I think the Mets lucked out having him hit by the ball.
Id rather have Ramos bat then Yaz I’m so done with him.. Any trades should involve Yaz,Hjelle,Fitz,Doval,Matos, lots of throw in pieces that nobody want.Guess Coconut 🥥 the most value lol ..Teams are going to ask for top prospects so yeah it’s a cluster fuck on what Posey with all the dead pieces still around..Including are useless hitting coach among others shitty ones..
Agree on all counts AK
This could be the season here…
Pfffttt!
Giants look ready to lose 2 of 3 to the Pirates. Blow up this POS lineup …
Ah hell. The bases loaded jinx again.
Once the Giants got runners on 2nd & 3rd, they never had a chance.
Giants Oh-for-the-series with RISP. 0-23.
They’ve cratered coming out of the break.
Buster needs to make some moves. Sell.
Obviously, I can’t prove this, but Ramos’s “hair” being hit by the pitch was the kiss of death in this game. Only consistent hitter game in and game out – had the bat taken from him.
I’m sure you know this but they are NEVER gonna sell Busters first year at the helm.
Buster might, but Baer and the marketing machine won’t allow it. Got to get those butts in the seats the last 7 weeks of the year, just so the fans can cheer the team on and buy those beers to miss the last WC spot by a handful of games.
This organization is like those NBA teams stuck in mediocrity hell. Not bad enough to get into the lottery to get a game changer guy like Webenyama, not good enough organizational talent to trade for more than one player who will make a difference. Buster may make a trade or two of little consequence, to show they’re sorta trying, but they blew their wad on Devers. Too many dudes like Wisely, Smith, Matos, Yaz, blah blah blah — playing to their talent level. Oh, and JH Lee looking like he’s digging a groove in the right side of the infield with all those ground outs — he looks now like more than a bit of an overpaid Farhan bust…
Another aspiring actress whose big break is a diarrhea commercial…
Did I read that right? This series, 0-23 RISP? My goodness…
Adames hit a dribbler up the third base line with Ramos on second and two outs. Adames had an easy infield hit that would have made them 1-23 w/ RISP, even though no run was going to score. Unfortunately, Ramos stopped running to third, then resumed, giving the third baseman, who didn’t waste a throw, enough time to retreat to the bag and tag out Ramos. No hit for Willy.
Isn’t everyone excited about the top Carson’s debut?
I’m not sure run of the mill edibles will be enough.
Might have to hit the Zide Door.
I’m a believer. The mushrooms of Palenque fresh and in situ convinced me.
Sure but most exciting thing about seeing Mets again this weekend, beside diametric opposite 90 degree weather, has to be Diaz. Twice in a row Giants had him set up for blown save and L but he put them away. No deception, just 98+ heat to every hitter. I’ve read before SF is the worst team in all baseball vs. fastball.
Meanwhile Alonso went 1-13. Did hurt Giants with D though.
James, no idea what you and DJ are talking about.
Ahhhh, the Wizzenator. Nvrmnd.
I was pointing out that the Mets have hit no better than the Giants with RISP this season, but they have hit better overall. As a result, NY has scored a respectable number of runs despite the crap performance with RISP. Loo was joking.
2026,27,28,29 lineups will all have Ramos Lee Adames Devers Chapman Bailey. 6/10 spots locked for years.
Hopefully Eldridge will develop. Possible upgrade at OF slot but unlikely with all the $$ on the hitters already here. 2nd base?
Current team better get better at RISP or we are going to be a .500 team for a LONG time:(
catching up on The Athletic. This is interesting and sorta sad…Lee up with bases loaded 1 out sat and tried to bunt…from the article…
….”Lee was facing a left-on-left matchup with David Peterson, but it’s not as if the Mets starter was overpowering. It’s not as if Lee has been feeble in same-side matchups, either. He had a reverse split this season: He was hitting .276 with an .783 OPS against lefties and .239/.685 against right-handers.
Yet Lee did something that major-league hitters almost never do. He stepped into the game’s ripest situation to inflict maximum damage. He chose to artificially minimize it.
How rare is it for a hitter to make that choice? Well, entering Saturday, there had been 9,945 pitches thrown with the bases loaded this season. There had been two bunt attempts. That’s because there is almost no bases-loaded situation in which squaring to bunt is a sound strategy. If the ball doesn’t get past the pitcher, it’s a potential flip and force at the plate. From every angle, a bases-loaded bunt is a terrible play — the provenance of pitchers in the pre-universal DH age, absolute burners carrying ultralight lumber or anyone feeling overmatched.”
AUGH
sounds like Brisbee bullshit.
but it’s not. Baggarly dug deep into the muck for that one. I’m surprised.
what really surprises me is Baggarly s reliance on a post game interview with Lee, who explained his determination to avoid a double play. Also, Alonso was playing back. So, the surprising first pitch bunt attempt. Mocking Lee’s choice of course would cause a lot more disgust if Lee hadn’t blasted that Diaz pitch off the bricks later, in the ninth ,
After bunt went foul, I was thinking in different situation it’s not bad idea for him to try drag bunt more often, especially if he can get it past pitcher.
later in article..SAD
since universal DH 57,600 pitches with bases loaded in MLB. 27 bunt attempts. Giants have 4 of them.
How a team or a player hits with RISP in a given year isn’t generally something you can control, plan for, or anticipate. All you can do is try to get better hitters.
Wilmer Flores
Lifetime BA: 259
Lifetime w/RISP: 257
Christ, this Jetpack app is such a pile of shit, at least its reader function. The comments are out of synch half the time, even after you refresh. I’m going to switch back to the legacy WordPress app for as long as they support it.
I didn’t see your “got it” response, Chuck.
Trade Doval &Fitz plus 2 prospects for OF Steven Kwan ( can play all 3 outfield spots) who would be an ideal leadoff hitter ( 350 OBP) and contact hitter setting the table for Devers,Ramos,Chapman,&Adames..
Pickup a cheap SP to fill in the backend of the rotation!
Make RR the closer so we all don’t have to deal with Doval’s nonchalant attitude anymore!
Drink Alot!! Which this team makes you do!
Still like an experienced Catcher duo for Bailey..Adley Rustchman would be on my radar,Orioles have an abundance of Catchers ,possibly even Braves C Sean Murphy who’s splitting time with hot shot rookie Baldwin, who’s their future with others in their organization..
Unbelievable but true this team had 2Fucking Steal Attempts for the month of July, Mets had more steals 3 in one game against the Giants! Guess they don’t give a shit about the league changes advantages to make stealing a bag easier and expecting the Earl Weaver 3 run Homer approach? That and not knowing how to run the bases!!
Fire Pat Burrell I see where Chili Davis been hanging around the team, id take him in a heartbeat over Burrell as the hitting coach!
Giants have no speed to speak of, so they don’t steal. The only real speed was Fitz, but he’s stealing bags, if any, in Sac. Grandson of the Wind isn’t really a base stealer (6 all season, none in the past 28 days), but of course he needs to actually get on base (instead of grounding out to the right side or popping out, season OBP at .319) to even contemplate that. Even if somebody gets on, Melvin is rightfully afraid to try a steal or a hit and run since wasting a base runner is so huge when getting people on base is such a rare event, and these SF batters swing and miss like a broken gate in a windstorm. I do remember they tried a hit and run a few weeks back, and it actually worked…
With 46 so far this season, Giants are next to dead last in MLB in stolen bases. Detroit is last with 45…
Further along the historical perspectives given above, here’s another. Per KNBR, the last time a team went 0-23 with RISP in three games was 1931…
What does that have to do with diarrhea?
Keep digging, Buster. There’s a pony in there somewhere.
If ya need a bigger shovel, go get ya one.
6 of next 9 are vs. Pirates and Nats, plus rematch with Mets whom Giants played tough 2 of 3. Posey isn’t a quitter so doubt he’s selling anything he can’t replace, as Doval would be.
Mets head to SD, currently 3 ahead of Giants in L column. SD still hasn’t added anyone of note either so this could be quite interesting series for all concerned ahead of deadline.
Re steals.. I know it is anecdotal but in April when we were winning we were stealing a lot. Puts pressure on the defense. The idea of wasting an out when we get so few hits is backward. When a player is on second we need 1 hit to score. When on 1st we need 2. Considering how few home runs we hit, we will score more, and we did.
Maybe there is a correlation that when aggressive on the basepaths were scoring. In July we didn’t steal at all and were close to last in runs scored….And the added bonus is the team was fun to watch. Unlike now.
Tell Melvin. He’s probably busy still trying to get people to tag up at second on way deep flies to center, not run to 3rd with the third basemen holding the batted ball in his glove, and with a runner rounding first, outfielders not to throw in a live ball like an eephus pitch over the head of the shortstop…
So far this season in MLB, per ESPN stats:
Giants
Runs scored: 23rd
OBP: 24th
SLG: 27th
Pirates
Dead last (30th) in all 3 of the above categories.

This series is a race to see who can be the least offensively pathetic…
Along with what snarkk and mrsprtdude said about steals above, I want to emphasize what someone else here said recently . . . Specifically, that MLB has implemented rule changes to encourage more base stealing, including larger bases, a pitch timer and restrictions of on pickup attempts. These changes aim to increase the success rate and overall frequency of stolen bases, promoting a more dynamic and exciting game.
Have the Giants taken advantage of these rules? Hell no! Only in April (which mrsprtdude pointed out above) did they run and take advantage of the new rules. Other league leading teams have taken advantage of these rule changes. Giants are 29th in MLB!
Likewise, it’s no coincidence that Lee was moved from lead-off to all over the fucking line up, which easily discombobulated his mind and continued improvement in the MLB. In short, he hasn’t been the same since. Thanks Melvin for fucking up his confidence!
speaking of BoMel bouncing Lee around the lineup, he has him in the 5 hole today.
no Schmidt yesterday or today.
Schmidt is 8 for his last 48 ABs . . . His outstanding progress before his injury may have been irrevocably harmed, as he seems to have regressed to the Schmidt of earlier this season and last 2 seasons before this one. Dunno for certain.
We’re smart, Blade…
per B/R JHL is batting .174 in leadoff position this season–8-46 with 3 triples. Best spot in order for him? 7th where he’s hitting .375 and had 3 hits there Saturday.
Lee is about 5th best hitter on team via most metrics, behind Ramos Devers Chapman and Adames (barely) so 5th seems about right though Dom Smith has higher OB. He led off Tuesday in ATL and went 0-4 with BB. Yesterday back at leadoff he went 0-3 with 2 more BBs.
gotta agree. His BA with RISP is .270. fw that’s worth. (Compare Juan Soto at .189 w RISP but OB% .387, 14 SBs only 1 CS–now there’s a top of the order guy.)
I should have phrased the statement this way . . . Jung Hoo Lee’s batting average in April, while batting in the first three spots in the lineup, was .319. In that month, he had 37 hits in 116 at-bats, according to a sports news report. He also had 3 home runs, 18 RBIs, 23 runs scored, 3 stolen bases, and an OPS of .901 across 30 games.
I still maintain Melvin fucked up his mind and has contributed negatively to other Giants player’s mindset with his daily LU changes. Players don’t like uncertainty, particularly what position they’re going to play (see Devers), or their place in the line up (entire team). Melvin sucks imo.
Regardless, Lee is a poor player for what we are paying him. I wouldn’t shed a tear if he was gone.
Agree with blad.
JHL is small in stature, a bit of pop but not a lot for an outfielder, a weakish arm, not a base stealer, a little above average glove, certainly not spectacular defense in CF. He isn’t much of a base stealer. For whatever reason, he’s regressed at the plate, and oppo pitchers are making him pull happy to the right side and pop up happy. I agree with most here that Melvin, going Kappler-esque, has messed around with his mind by constantly moving him up and down the LU. I have no idea how he has fit in to the clubhouse chemistry situation. So far, his experiment, courtesy of Farhan, is turning out fair to poor in absolute performance and value…
Lee hit couple bombs out of Yankee Stadium and had 3 HRs in April. He hit 3 more in May including the last one he hit May 14. 0 since then in 2 and half months.
In April no one had seen him. Pretty obvious League has caught up to him, batting order be damned. This isn’t Melvin, it’s Lee inability to handle either hard in (ground outs to right side) or soft away (flailing and hitting pop flies to left side). He’s having better month of July so hopefully he turns it around. Pretty tough to trade him given salary next 4 years.
Too early to give up on Lee. Not even 1 season yet.
Question: Anyone think we should trade Doval? He has value as a closer and under team control for another year. maybe get a top prospect? And another reliever to fill the gap with Rodriquez presumably being the new closer?
Hell yeah let someone else try and straighten Doval out. From what I read Miller ailment isn’t that bad. Every contender wants pen help it seems. Let the kids try and figure it out.
Loo, head nod to your 4:13pm 🙂
Re Lee.. He seems to be pulling off the ball in a way he wasn’t earlier in the year. Seems to be hitting better in the last 2 weeks. maybe he is making an adjustment like the pitchers made to him.
Fucking Belt could have raised his average 30 points if he bunted once in a while.
The 3rd baseman was usually 30′ from the line on the OF grass.
He coulda bunted for doubles. Better than all the goddamn walks he took.
His first 4 seasons, he didn’t have any bunt hits. Between 2015-22, he bunted 26 times for a hit.
He coulda had 50 more.
There is a fairly large collection of “just guys” we would all be fine with trading: Fitz, Meckler, actually forget it, was going to list ’em but there are too many, we all know who they are. What team would want these guys? Maybe someone with a niche need, but really, none of these guys are going to get anything in return. Just dump ’em already. Marketable players are limited but sure, trade Doval and anyone else that some team might want. Really no untouchables anymore (I had a few on that list earlier in the season, not anymore) except Big Bryce in Sacto…. And yet, I do believe a big move is coming. Buster’s got balls, anyway. And yes, too early to give up on Lee, unless maybe replaced by Wong or the likes…
just heard that Bryce Harper went nose to nose with manfred in the Philly clubhouse and told the commish to get the fuck out if he intended to lobby for a salary cap. Gotta check that out.
Jesus, Ryne Sandberg gone at 65. Cancer…
