A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Losses Upon Losses

Didn’t see the game, was traveling back to the Bay Area. Box score indicates more of the same although we finally got Wizzy up here. That wreaks of desperation which, I suppose it’s time for. Melvin is a ghost. How can a ghost be reasonably expected to lead the living out of this deep hole we are in?

If Webb gags today, it might break Buster’s spirit. Blade & Snarkk could get a tiny white flag version of the selloff they’ve been asking for.

It shall not go unnoticed that the Valkyries, after losing their All Star to an injury, went to Atlanta and defeated the #4 seed Atlanta team in a tough grueling game. If the Giants had the heart of the Valkyries, that would be something.

If the tsunami had somehow caused the bay to destroy all of those sailboats next to the ballpark, who amongst us wouldn’t have found that quietly amusing?

Giants need to play the last 1/3 of the season at around .630 ball to get to 88-89 wins and put themselves in the last or 2nd to last WC contention, with a handful of WC competitor teams, all looking better than SF, already ahead of them now. I don’t see any possible way for this moribund outfit to get there. The math just doesn’t work. I assume fangraphs or somebody has a WC probability prediction that is really low.

    SELL ….

The Valkyries/Atlanta game was momentarily stopped when someone threw a bright green dildo on the court. Apparently the throwing of dildos on the playing field is a thing at some sporting events.

nice play from Adames. Chapman was set up very close to the line. Adames had to cover it backhand with huge momentum carrying him away from the deep throw he had to make. I’m beginning to like him more.

Lee continues to distribute his outs beautifully to all fields.

They need to build a new machine for Tyler Rogers:

”He’s so unusual that Trajekt, the pitcher visualization system used by several major league teams, is unable to replicate him.”

of course you know he hit a lazy fly out. I wonder if at home if Buster has taken a bat to some of his furniture yet?

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 30, 2025 at 4:43 pm

Yes. Ramos has been getting the Lee treatment–hard inside and on bat handle, which he swings at and dribbles to right side, and soft down and away, again more dribblers. Take BB if you don’t get something to hit. Always sucker for high hard one.

I told blade before this series that I would not be surprised if the Pirates took 2 of 3. Pirates were playing better than SF coming in. Well, and here we are, a sweep by the absolute worst team in MLB, by record.

This may be the stupidest string of baseball played by a Giants team in my memory of over 50 years of being a Giants fan. There have been atrocious teams over that period, plenty of ’em. But, they generally just had bad talent. They didn’t necessarily play stupid, clueless baseball game after game. Every game over the last 2 weeks seems to have at least one, if not several, absolutely ridiculous errors or mistakes in judgment by a Giants player or players. This Walker thing just now– I can’t fathom how stupid that was with the ghost runner just in front of him waiting to be tagged out with a short throw home. You cannot let that runner score, just cannot do it.

    Sell Doval. Sell, sell, sell…

  32. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2025 at 4:10 pm

I really cannot see how fucking MoTel 6 survives this.

This team is collectively retarded. “Hey coach, what’s the infield fly rule?” Fucking Walker has the play RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. The ball is hit to the 3rd base side of the mound. The LEAD RUN IS RIGHT THERE running! Walker tries to make a blind play to 2nd. Ooops.

And per usual, gift base hit, 2 on 1 out, and NO ONE puts the ball in play.

And, didn’t watch it, too busy at work, but love the highlights.

This offensive juggernaut rolls along. I saw we had 3 hits after 7.

  33. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 30, 2025 at 4:34 pm

Not super impressed with what Buster got in return for Rogers.

2 fairly dubious arms and Gilbert, an outfielder with a spotty history of injury and unfulfilled, as yet, supposed high ceiling.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 30, 2025 at 4:50 pm

ESPN guy Brad Doolittle was–gave Giants A minus. 2 x top ten Mets prospects (keith Law of Athletic had them at 12 and 14 earlier) and current pen guy on ML roster. If you sort through comments on MLBTR story, Mets fans think it was overpay, as Rogers is a rental. Have to wait and see how prospects turn out in near future.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 30, 2025 at 5:00 pm

Time will tell. NY fans of any stripe always think they’re getting screwed in trades. I’ve read the info on the three dudes. Shocking, I know, I’ve never been in love with Rogers — yet the haul coming back seems “meh” to me from a bit city team well in the playoff hunt that needed a leverage arm…

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 30, 2025 at 5:09 pm

it’s a good haul for a rental. Now if Buster can just re-sign Rogers in the off season. …

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 30, 2025 at 5:14 pm

Rogers gets lot of respect as low walk/soft contact set up guy around the league despite blowback here. So be it. Mets have their closer and just added Cards closer Helsley too.

Mets just got swept by Padres. Soto fouled ball off his foot and isn’t playing. Alonso 1-23 and 12-85 this month. giants get another crack at them

  34. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 30, 2025 at 5:33 pm

Yeah and Rodgers will pitch 3 straight games and stick it to ‘‘em with 3 holds..
I think the Giants did pretty good on that haul though, a top 10 and 18 prospects plus an outfielder Gilbert? That can’t be any worse then are outfielders in general..
And Rodgers a rental, might see him back, he’s still respected and tough on hitters. This year one of his best for sure, thus the decent return.Hey we got a guy named Butto that alone will go along way with the jokes.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 30, 2025 at 6:03 pm

      Gilbert is a dice roll.

Yet, I’d take him over Yaz.

Yaz’ contract is over at end of this season, so we know he and his strike out swing aren’t coming back. At least I think we know that…

  35. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2025 at 5:34 pm

Bingo. He’s a rental and we got some stuff. Nothing major but this team needs live bodies to replace the dead bodies we have.

Ohtani left his start in the 4th inning after throwing 6 balls and 2 wild pitches.

  37. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 30, 2025 at 5:51 pm

It would be great to see Buster put Robbie Ray up for auction right now. Maybe he has. Let the bidding begin and go overnight and up to the deadline, hot and heavy. You don’t have to pull the trigger if nobody ponies up the necessary goods. Nothing less than 2 of your top 5 position prospects and a top 10 pitcher prospect. Ray is under control for next season, this is not a “rental”.

You were being kind when you only went back “50 years,” insofar as this being the worst baseball you’ve witnessed as a fan.

San Francisco went 0-6 on its homestand, the first time since 1896 the Giants franchise has gone winless on a homestand of six or more games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Per ESPN, “Pirates pitchers retired 25 straight hitters from the last out of the fourth inning Tuesday night through the first three innings Wednesday. Ramos’ single ended the streak.”
