A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

And, That’s A Wrap

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 31, 2025

Below .500. And sinking further. They say we got a good haul for Rogers. Eh, whatever. Apparently, Verlander is on the table. I could see that, even though he’s only got the 1 win he’s clearly still got the velo (for an old man) and there are probably playoff teams out there who would want his experience for the stretch run.

Who else do we have to trade? Maybe Yaz to Boston just to give their fans a little of the old “feels”? Doval? Oh pretty please!

Disastrous year any way you slice it. I can’t remember a Giants team that ever went from the best team in baseball (record wise, you can look it up they had the best record at one point***April 26th they had the 2nd best record with a .643 win %) to the worst team in the league. In the same season.

Pathetic.

Well at least they gave us 2/3 of an interesting season. Some of those Big Red Machine teams basically eliminated them by late April…

Those low down, good for nothing…

I’m depressed about it, I really thought they had a shot at it this year.

    Flores to the Mets.

I didn’t have a lot of hope but they started so hot. All those exciting wins and great pitching has faded into bad baserunning, poor defense, and terrible hitting.

This coaching staff has to go. They drove the boat into the rocks and are trying to beach it further.

And one more before nighty night… I can’t back this up statistically, it’s from a shady part of memory, but seem to remember 2013 season, maybe into early June, they had the best record in baseball, and then from the Pagan insider, they (in my memory) just tanked through June into July. Not sure about worst team in baseball over that time, but too deep a hole to crawl out of even with a decent close to the season.

After 60 games (dogs BS 2020 WS season) Giants were 33-27, losing to Padres 1-0. they would lose next day 3-2 to SD then win 7 of 8. If they had played .500 ball from June 3 they’d be where Reds are now, 57-52 5 games over .500 and 3 back of Padres for WC with over 50 games left and in middle of fight.

As Clouseau said about the “priceless” vase, “Not anymore.”

Personally, unless we got something half way decent for Verlander I don’t want to trade him. Fuck doing him a favor. How bout he just stays and fills a slot that we need for the rest of this year. There’s no reason to completely give up and try to lose every game the rest of the way.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 31, 2025 at 10:25 am

Exactly. why give up more pitching, especially starter? It’s only thing keeping them in games lately.

I’d feel worse about team if they were continuously getting blown out of the water, but each of the last 5 have been close games where one hit they didn’t get or one mistake ultimately cost them.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 31, 2025 at 11:07 am

This team must retool. The position roster outside Chapman, Adames and Devers is garbage. Nobody should be immune from being traded. Who cares about the starting pitching at this point. They can’t score.

They have a joke of a coaching staff that is actively fucking up games. Yet they stay the course.

Verlander? Fuck him. Unlesthey get something good, let him wallow. Trade Doval though. Teams are DESPERATE for pitching and he’s worth a look for any contender.

Said last week Giants weren’t buyers but never foresaw 6 game winless homestand. Rogers trade another shrewd move by front office. Rogers free agent at end of year. Two prospects and journeyman pitcher good return.

But disappointed no action today. 90 minutes till trade deadline. Was hopeful any combination of Yaz, Flores, Doval & Verlander traded to get something of value back.

And disappointed in Posey & Minasian for failing to make two or three coaching changes just to send message to team. Know it’s not Posey’s style to embarrass fellow ex-players in mid-season but this team has disappointed on multiple levels.

You said the same thing about Farhan. Yet 20 teams make deals all around the league. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

So, we will stagger down the stretch and pray the Doval finds his mojo? Or we actually GET a lead to use him in?

Can’t wait till we bring up the next crop of crappy players from down on the funny farm?

Will this next batch know how to run the bases? Figure out the intricacies of the infield fly rule? Take a 2 strike approach?

I know it’s Buster’s first year, but the team should have gotten better just because of the change in attitude. But here we are looking like the same inept clown show as last year.

And here we are at the deadline basically saying ‘we are good enough to flail around in mediocrity’.

The missing 100% of shots you don’t take statement is flat out ridiculous. No coach wants someone who shoots whenever they feel like it whether they miss or not or without regard for what’s going on. All I’m saying is, if you knew Posey turned down a specific trade of player A for player b, and you thought that was wrong, fine. but if you have no idea what was offered for whom in first place, it’s completely different.

Doval Rogers and Yaz are all gone–Posey got what he could for them and Giants move on.

Giants trying to have and eat their cake (or as ESPN describes it, “playing both sides of the fence”). Not certain it will work. Regardless, we possibly now have the All World outfielder (minor leaguer Gilbert) we haven’t had in quite some time.

It isn’t even that I want them to sell. I want them to do anything but stand pat. Doval should have beebna piece that would get a decent return.

They aren’t anywhere near the fence. They are out standing in a different field playing mumbledy peg.

I’ll tell you what unca, I would totally be GOOD with them getting rid of Chapman. That signing was a mistake. Granted he was outstanding last year (7.1 WAR), however, he was mediocre for 5 years since his outstanding 2018 year. He’s delivered a 3.3 WAR this season. That spells “MEDIOCRE” in my mind, particularly for what we are paying him. Next year he is 33 and dollars to donuts, he will be worse.

At least Buster pulled the trigger on a fairly moderate shakeup, compared to the train wreck this team has gone/is going through. I’ve no clue yet on the Yanks they obtained for Doval, at first blush looks pretty low brow talent. Tomorrow we’ll know more with some perspective. Probably could not get a ton of real talent due to Doval’s headcase reputation, especially since the deal went down right to the wire. Gladz to see Yaz gone. Nice fielder, terribly streaky at bat, and showing age there. This season, 14 RBI in 3 months? That’s not a streak, that’s just plain awful. Anyway, at least Posey did SOME shaking up. I wanted Ray gone and a bunch of bodies in return, but as expected ownership could not stomach that — looks too much like a white flag to the Pollyana fans who still go to the games and buy crab sandwiches…

Double sheesh. Whatever happened to Daniel Johnson? I see Unlucky Luci is playing the OF in Sacto, maybe him in right? Incoming! I thought they would be able to balance eliminating some mediocrity with replacing said mediocrity with someone better, but this looks more like just a *shakeup* than anything, which can have value in itself. And I would agree with Buster for thinking next year is not a lost cause, even if this one is…
