And, That’s A Wrap
Below .500. And sinking further. They say we got a good haul for Rogers. Eh, whatever. Apparently, Verlander is on the table. I could see that, even though he’s only got the 1 win he’s clearly still got the velo (for an old man) and there are probably playoff teams out there who would want his experience for the stretch run.
Who else do we have to trade? Maybe Yaz to Boston just to give their fans a little of the old “feels”? Doval? Oh pretty please!
Disastrous year any way you slice it. I can’t remember a Giants team that ever went from the best team in baseball (record wise, you can look it up they had the best record at one point***April 26th they had the 2nd best record with a .643 win %) to the worst team in the league. In the same season.
Pathetic.
Well at least they gave us 2/3 of an interesting season. Some of those Big Red Machine teams basically eliminated them by late April…
1/3
Those low down, good for nothing…
I’m depressed about it, I really thought they had a shot at it this year.
Flores to the Mets.
I didn’t have a lot of hope but they started so hot. All those exciting wins and great pitching has faded into bad baserunning, poor defense, and terrible hitting.
This coaching staff has to go. They drove the boat into the rocks and are trying to beach it further.
Yeah, really disappointing. And yikes, still 2 months to go… Could be interesting or could be butt ugly…
Robbie Ray for a HUGE haul of players that solve all the problems….
And one more before nighty night… I can’t back this up statistically, it’s from a shady part of memory, but seem to remember 2013 season, maybe into early June, they had the best record in baseball, and then from the Pagan insider, they (in my memory) just tanked through June into July. Not sure about worst team in baseball over that time, but too deep a hole to crawl out of even with a decent close to the season.
different time, though. I remember attending late season sold out games that year including Petit’s near perfecto in Sept. I have a lot less interest in this denouement.
The A’s are always doing the A’s thing. Selling their body parts. Who wants a kidney? Who wants a spleen?
Yeah Paul. Ray would return a ton. Don’t make the same mistake as with Bum, Snell and Rodon.
Let’s remember the positive things that happened this summer. Oasis reunited. Liam Neeson and Pam Anderson are dating. Cameron Brink came back. Another asteroid missed Earth.
none of those move the needle for me, Zumiee
Verlander has to want out. Trouble is he won’t fetch much return. I’m up for letting him get out of. Bad situation…
“We did it to ourselves” Matt Chapman. Truer words never spoken.
More changes coming maybe but not until off season. Posey isn’t cutting mgr. coaching staff farm directors and 20 players…yet. As sr. loco said above, I’m sure he’s plenty disappointed, like rest of us.
After 60 games (dogs BS 2020 WS season) Giants were 33-27, losing to Padres 1-0. they would lose next day 3-2 to SD then win 7 of 8. If they had played .500 ball from June 3 they’d be where Reds are now, 57-52 5 games over .500 and 3 back of Padres for WC with over 50 games left and in middle of fight.
As Clouseau said about the “priceless” vase, “Not anymore.”
Personally, unless we got something half way decent for Verlander I don’t want to trade him. Fuck doing him a favor. How bout he just stays and fills a slot that we need for the rest of this year. There’s no reason to completely give up and try to lose every game the rest of the way.
Exactly. why give up more pitching, especially starter? It’s only thing keeping them in games lately.
I’d feel worse about team if they were continuously getting blown out of the water, but each of the last 5 have been close games where one hit they didn’t get or one mistake ultimately cost them.
This team must retool. The position roster outside Chapman, Adames and Devers is garbage. Nobody should be immune from being traded. Who cares about the starting pitching at this point. They can’t score.
Verlander’s owed 5 million for the remainder of the season. Giants would be thrilled to unload even a quarter of it…
You can argue Preller may be a dufus, and his moves haven’t worked great, but this is a massive haul he’s sent for a closer. Sell Ray, and get a similar haul. Be bold.

This is shaping up to be just like the 49ers season. Although they had more injuries than the Giants.
They have a joke of a coaching staff that is actively fucking up games. Yet they stay the course.
Verlander? Fuck him. Unlesthey get something good, let him wallow. Trade Doval though. Teams are DESPERATE for pitching and he’s worth a look for any contender.
Maddening.
Trade Yaz to Boston for some magic beans.
Why would they take him, even if he were free?
Old time’s sake. He’s a defensive replacement.
Here we are, sitting on our thumbs again. Not much different than Farhan.
Padres are just gobblin’ up talent. Now, they get O’Hearn.
They seem to have endless minor league talent that other teams want. Giants cupboard in the minors is essentially bare…
And Laureano and another C, after the deal with A’s for pen guy Miller and SP Sears. Giants will see them 7 times in August, first 3 here on 11th. They sure look different.
Said last week Giants weren’t buyers but never foresaw 6 game winless homestand. Rogers trade another shrewd move by front office. Rogers free agent at end of year. Two prospects and journeyman pitcher good return.
But disappointed no action today. 90 minutes till trade deadline. Was hopeful any combination of Yaz, Flores, Doval & Verlander traded to get something of value back.
And disappointed in Posey & Minasian for failing to make two or three coaching changes just to send message to team. Know it’s not Posey’s style to embarrass fellow ex-players in mid-season but this team has disappointed on multiple levels.
They overvalue everyone until they get to the show. Then it’s send in the clowns.
When they announced Posey as GM, I thought is was simply a PR move to ameliorate casual fans.
He’s shown more than that, but this inactivity is galling.
Either fish or cut bait.
Standing pat at mediocrity is just saying ‘fuck it. We’ll coast into 4th place and pray the 2026 draft helps us by 2030’.
Sorry for the $10.00 word, Xoot. Can’t help it.
you think that’ll placate me? ha.
My interest is amortized daily.
uh huh. Interminable tiny deaths one after another.
touché
Qué chiste.
I get everyone is pissed right now, but unfair to judge Posey unless you know what deals he turned down or what offers were for anyone he might have tried to move… Until he says or does anything more himself.
Plus this is his first year, and it is literally a new job, and There is a learning curve. We will see the grade he gets after 2 to 3 yers
zzzzzzzzzzzz
You said the same thing about Farhan. Yet 20 teams make deals all around the league. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
So, we will stagger down the stretch and pray the Doval finds his mojo? Or we actually GET a lead to use him in?
Can’t wait till we bring up the next crop of crappy players from down on the funny farm?
Will this next batch know how to run the bases? Figure out the intricacies of the infield fly rule? Take a 2 strike approach?
I know it’s Buster’s first year, but the team should have gotten better just because of the change in attitude. But here we are looking like the same inept clown show as last year.
And here we are at the deadline basically saying ‘we are good enough to flail around in mediocrity’.
Fuck it.
The missing 100% of shots you don’t take statement is flat out ridiculous. No coach wants someone who shoots whenever they feel like it whether they miss or not or without regard for what’s going on. All I’m saying is, if you knew Posey turned down a specific trade of player A for player b, and you thought that was wrong, fine. but if you have no idea what was offered for whom in first place, it’s completely different.
Doval Rogers and Yaz are all gone–Posey got what he could for them and Giants move on.
Steph Curry says ‘hold my beer’. This ‘we don;t know what was offered’ is just silly when there are deals flying around the league.
And lo and behold, they did it. Yaz and Doval were the most tradeable.
Fucking Pads got O’Hearn AND Laureano.
For 1 blue-chip prospect and 5 AA guys.
Giants trying to have and eat their cake (or as ESPN describes it, “playing both sides of the fence”). Not certain it will work. Regardless, we possibly now have the All World outfielder (minor leaguer Gilbert) we haven’t had in quite some time.
I’m with snarkk, unca, Dean, and anyone else who says, “sell, sell, sell.”
It isn’t even that I want them to sell. I want them to do anything but stand pat. Doval should have beebna piece that would get a decent return.
They aren’t anywhere near the fence. They are out standing in a different field playing mumbledy peg.
I’ll tell you what unca, I would totally be GOOD with them getting rid of Chapman. That signing was a mistake. Granted he was outstanding last year (7.1 WAR), however, he was mediocre for 5 years since his outstanding 2018 year. He’s delivered a 3.3 WAR this season. That spells “MEDIOCRE” in my mind, particularly for what we are paying him. Next year he is 33 and dollars to donuts, he will be worse.
Longoriously awful!

Doval to Yanks…
Doval to nyy? Worst possible place for him isn’t it?
The worst place for any human…
With his fragile “Blanche Dubois” pysche, the fans there will eat him up.
Doval is gone!!!!!!!
Wonder what we got…
Yeah. funny enough, the Giants high draft pick OF Tibbs they sent to BoSox in Devers deal, was just traded to Dodgers for Dustin May. Sox fans not happy.
Doval to Yankees. He’ll likely cough up late inning lead in playoffs.
Jeff Passan reporting Yaz to Royals?
Passan works for ESPN, but no mention of it. X?
Yes…reported on X. That’s why I put question mark at end of my comment.
Yaz gone. Lots of Matos now?
I’ll miss the Splash hit foul balls.
Had a nice grab in RF against the netting on way out. Who takes his place in lineup…not complaining, just asking.
Another guy I have disliked for the last 2-3 years. Good fielding outfielder, but otherwise too streaky as a hitter for my tastes. Just extended periods of zero performance. I think the Giants kept him only because he could field his position in right field. Everyone else was a disaster out there.
Doval trade confirmed by multiple outlets, but nothing about what we got in return.
We get . . . https://x.com/MLBPipeline/status/1951048034248503366?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet
Interested in reaction of rest of Flavor nation to Giant moves past 24 hours. I’m not fan of making moves just to reshuffle chairs on Titanic deck but total inaction yesterday and today would have frustrated me more.
Obviously will take 2-4 years to see if any prospects Giants acquired from Mets, Yanks & Royals pay dividends. Have no clue to players Giants got from Yanks and Royals in past hour but liked Mets trade.
I’m glad Posey & Minasian are sending clear signal they’re not happy with state of team. But I’m not happy with Melvin extension thru 2026 and no changes to coaching staff now.
Couple guys in 19-25 rankings was what I saw plus one other guy farther away. Yanks only sent 1 decent guy to Pirates for Bednar, C they wanted. Best Posey could do I imagine.
I just felt we had to do something sometimes change is good just for the sake of change. And maybe some of the players we picked up pan out.
Watching Chappie this season has been a real eye-opener. His approach to batting is awful.
Then again, so is Bailey’s, Matos’s, Lee’s, and just about anyone not named Adames. Even he’s just scuffling along at .238.
Dean, I am looking forward to more information on Gilbert. Thus far everything I have read is that he is a good 25 year old outfielder, where the “. . . Giants will want to push to make the club next season.”
Don’t know if that is true or what? Anyway, I want more info on him.
One thing that’s been consistently cited is that he can’t hit lefties. He’s projected as a platoon corner OF. A younger Yaz, if we’re lucky.
Yanks #19 & 25 for Doval? That’s a putrid return.
Mac is right as usual…
Cashman does this all the time, gets whoever he wants without ever giving up top prospects.
Word from KNBR on the Yanks minor league catcher in the Doval deal can’t actually play that position. He’s a terrible catcher. He can hit, maybe, but has no real position to play. Sweet…
They probably just wanted to save some money.
Well, that’s better. No reason to hang on to either Doval or Yaz.
Wonder what they could have gotten for Ray, but that’s a bridge too far.
At least Buster pulled the trigger on a fairly moderate shakeup, compared to the train wreck this team has gone/is going through. I’ve no clue yet on the Yanks they obtained for Doval, at first blush looks pretty low brow talent. Tomorrow we’ll know more with some perspective. Probably could not get a ton of real talent due to Doval’s headcase reputation, especially since the deal went down right to the wire. Gladz to see Yaz gone. Nice fielder, terribly streaky at bat, and showing age there. This season, 14 RBI in 3 months? That’s not a streak, that’s just plain awful. Anyway, at least Posey did SOME shaking up. I wanted Ray gone and a bunch of bodies in return, but as expected ownership could not stomach that — looks too much like a white flag to the Pollyana fans who still go to the games and buy crab sandwiches…
Or maybe Posey thinks next year is not yet a lost cause.
At first blush, getting rid of mediocrity is fine, but they didn’t replace Yaz with a better RFer. Who do they think is going to get the job done out there, Matos? Sheesh. Encarnacion? Double sheesh. Whatever happened to Daniel Johnson? I see Unlucky Luci is playing the OF in Sacto, maybe him in right? Incoming! I thought they would be able to balance eliminating some mediocrity with replacing said mediocrity with someone better, but this looks more like just a *shakeup* than anything, which can have value in itself. And I would agree with Buster for thinking next year is not a lost cause, even if this one is…
He also can’t afford to. He made the commitments to Adames and Devers, and pushed the no-trade Chapman signing. If he dumps them, he looks like a volatile whacko. And I don’t want him to blow it up. I want to actually watch games next year.
Agree.
And I must add, I for one am sad Yaz is gone. He still could’ve been a valuable 4th or 5th OFer. Maybe it’s my long ago Boston connection with his grandfather. Despite his streaky hitting, Yaz was a very good Giant.
His goodbye note is longer and more heartfelt than most. I liked him a lot, too.
where is it?
It was last seen scorching by in foul territory somewhere out in RF…
https://x.com/PavlovicNBCS/status/1951094243738656948
yer killin me Loo!!!
good stuff.
Thanks James
these trades are indicative of the shitty drafts. They need guys that can possibly make it in a year or2.
they ain’t looking for Yaz’s replacement. They need viable bodies
Yaz was a great feel good story for a while. But his time was up. Plus he looks a little like me. So there’s that.
The Valkyries went into Wash., DC, and won a hard-fought game tonight by 1 point, in a thrilling finish. They have a chance to make the playoffs. But even if they don’t, their first season has been a huge success.
Yeah managed to hit game winner and hold off Washington despite scoring 6 points in 4th. They were down to 9 players too. Citron rookie from ND is playing really well.
Hot-shot Dallas rookie Paige Bueckers has recently come out as a lesbian, with a black girlfriend. This will likely cause some white Texans to double-clutch their pearls.
Tame stuff in 2025, Zum…
