Dinner at Original Joes. Never been and I’m excited to go. I actually won this 3 years ago but couldn’t go cause of a family issue. So I’m stoked to finally go.
ah can’t do that. I’m dealing with medical issues this summer that ridiculously constrain my diet. I’ll be able to test the longevity of my prize about Xmas time.

There’s always luck invoved in winning, Now this is going to sound strange coming from a perceived “numbers guy”, but an overlooked factor that doesn’t have a stat atttached to it- the Giants don’t do a lot of ( excuse me, Craig )..they don’t do a lot of dumb “stuff”… top to bottom, they’re well coached players. What’s exasperating is when supposedly intelligent baseball people don’t consider those team assets as part of what makes a team great. Craig asks “Buster Posey? Barry Zito?” Nope. While we can say we wouldn’t have won it without Buster or Barry, I would posit that in 2012 we wouldn’t have have won it if Buster hit .400 and Barry won 25… without what we got from Angel, Scooter, Pablo, Cain, the Brandon’s, Romo, more…I’m always hesitant to use the “chemistry” word but I can say that our title years were truly, and more than most, team efforts. No better example than 2010 when two young guys who wanted to be regulars and thought they’d shown enough to be regulars, put aside their ambitions and became two of the most valuable role players in the game- Ishikawa and Schierholtz. I remember that Travis changed his approach at the plate to make it more suitable to his new role as the go to LH pinch hitter. And another little thing that shows why players want to go to war if Bochy is their leader- he rewarded them with World Series starts… So, anyway, while I may pore over the numbers and pull out the stats, I realize just as all Flappers do, that it’s about how they play the game. And our Giants play it right.
He had it right. They were in the period after 2 of the 3 of 5. In those days, the Giants didn’t have the greatest hitting, they had the vaunted pitching and D. But, remember how they would win games by letting the OTHER team make the mistakes in the field, make the errors under pressure, cut loose the wild pitches? This current team always makes the mistakes, does not to think ahead to the potential play at their position, doesn’t pay attention on the bases or at the base, doesn’t pressure the defense, and of course, swings away for the fences and Ks when a nice slow grounder bipped over to 2nd will get the run in…
Brought a tear to my eye. This sentimental stuff is all well and good after the fact and when you have a team that isn’t at the fucking *bottom* of the league in offense. None of those WS teams had an offense that ranked anywhere nearly as low. Until that changes, no amount of good fundamentals or good intentions is going to make anyone feel better about this shitty team. Oh, look, Drew Gilbert hit the cutoff man. The 3 expensive players Posey has built the offense around are way underperforming their lifetime numbers and they’re all on long term contracts.

Posey must be stunned. It’s one thing to see fitz fuckup fall on his ass chasing a pop up, it’s another to see Chapman and Adames flailing in the field and at the plate. Good take on Vamos Ramos failures too in the Baggs The Athletic piece today. Beats the hell out of reading AI critiques of Melvin’s many gaffes in 2014 WC game. I think the Melvin extension is Posey’s worst decision so far. Devers trade, the best.
I usually pursue such crap for my own learning needs. Sorry if it’s tedious. I respect numbers but I can’t find the energy to really dig in all the time. FWIW, of the AI summaries I summoned up, very few so much as mentioned Derek Norris.
Texting with Padres fan godson, noted bottom of order burned Giants again and he said they’ve been spark lately. Laureano (guy others here wanted) SB of third, HR (#4 of year lol) by new C Fermin. He also said Merrill had been in slump so it was good to see him snap out of it with 3 hits Monday and HR last night. Miller was impressive too. Beat writer for Pads said Preller traded 14 players away to make necessary deals. Right now 2 teams going opposite direction.
Merrill looks like great CF; his OPS numbers not much better than Lee’s for SF in his second season. Gonna be interesting to see comps btw Bogaerts and his long term contract vs Adames deal for 6 more with NTC.
I think something not good in the clubhouse (other than just playing/hitting badly) has to be going on to have a team-wide cratering like this happen. They are playing like zombies. What it is, if it is, should be something the languid Bay Area media needs to suss out or eliminate as a rationale for this disaster…
I wonder if Baggs is cautious now after his inside info approach got him boycotted in the clubhouse and then sacked by the giants cable company. Years ago, but still . And he’s the only best writer with the guts to consider blowing the whistle. IMO.
excellent point Snarkk. Shortly after the Dever’s trade i began to wonder about the clubhouse too. It seemed like there was no TEAM vibe. After the trade deadline that lack of ‘vibe’ seemed to only intensify. Even with Adames getting his bat on track for a few weeks, there was no feeling that this was truly a TEAM. I’m not sure these guys even really like each other.

Outstanding grab Loo. Love the post by Xoot, along with Loco’s (Bozo) repartee with Twin.
I was 40-50 thousand feet in the air I think at the time, i.e., I had just left Nepal and was in route to Turkey (during my 12-13 countries around the world trip). Fairly certain I have never seen this post before.
Gawd o’mighty it’s fucking Worst today over last nights crushing, well how about 10-0!!! FIRE before his postgame lip service of BS MELVIN ,BURRELL&WILLIAMS,throw in Halliberg as well!!
I agree, although I’ve never enjoyed the fluoride treatment at the end. The lousy taste and grit applied to your teeth after they’ve been made pristine is a downer.
Clark is still out for the Fever. That’s a bummer. She’s missed most of the season so far.
One of the opposing players, Ionescu, has said Clark should be doing more in the player collective contract battle with the league because “she is the face of the league.” Oh, so NOW she’s the face of the league, when the players need help with the collective contract. I guess beating up on Clark like a punching bag every game probably wasn’t the best way to treat the face of the league, in regards to money and marketing for the players.
Padres fan here and I’m not here to gloat but I live in the SF Bay Area and have been watching your Giants throughout the season. One consistent problem area I see is that the team takes way too many pitches. As a whole, they seem very content and over reliant on drawing walks but take very little risks in their ABs to swing when they need a big hit. Part of it is that they have guys like Bailey, Koss, and Schmitt that are barely MLB level quality hitters but make up for it by being scrappy and play hard to their limited abilities. But they also have legit bats like Devers, Adames, Ramos, and Lee who sometimes just seem to not take risks like other decent bats on other teams. Drawing walks can be a good thing…TO A POINT. Just thought I’d throw my two cents from an outsider’s perspective. I’ve always respected the Giants despite being a Padres fan.
Adames has been swinging and missing at crap 3rd strike pitches, usually sliders in the dirt outside, all season. Not to mention swinging at crap first pitches to get himself bad count leverage. His K rate is right at 30%. I’m not sure if you’re watching him a lot.
J Walk, SD had 392 walks and SF 409 at the start of today. Do you think if the Giants just eased up a little on the walk total, say to the tune of 17 fewer walks, the Giants would be in first?
Sorry for the excess triple posts there. I kept getting booted out that my posts weren’t going through. I can see you guys are just in a trolling mood while I was just trying to be respectful in an honest baseball discussion so I’ll see my way out.
If you think we’re trolling, that’s wrong. This is a free speech zone, it’s all “honest”. You backed up your point with another point, that’s fine. A couple of very benign ripostes to you with stats to back them up are “sweet nothings” around here, par for the course. Nothing to make you take your ball and go home, but if so, fare thee well…
Well, thanks for sharing your perspective. It’s interesting that you consider Bailey, Schmitt & Koss to be “barely MLB quality hitters” with “limited abilities”. I think most of us here would agree. Bailey is probably the biggest disappointment with Schmitt a close second. Both had some Brilliant Corners last year. Koss is still a question mark but with fewer appearances than either Bailey or Schmitt, has possibly shown the most consistency of the three. As for taking a lot of walks, we are 7th in the league. Lots of good company in the top 10 there. But I hear you about them “taking risks”. Many here have expressed their dismay at the overall approach at the plate by Giants hitters. The perpetual “swinging for the fences” when what we really need is a little bloop here & there. But nope, they just cannot seem to do that.
Giants phoning it in, except Ramos, in their bottom 8th ABs. Can’t blame them, except they’ve been doing that for the last couple of weeks. Just very noticeable now in the blowouts. We’re way past atrocious play into laughable play. They are so bad, they are amusing — and that’s bad. I don’t see how Melvin and/or coaches can survive for 40 more games of this merde…
Pads outscored the Gyros 20-3 in this 3 game series. One lonely, stinkin’ run in each game for SF. I really am pretty sure now this is the worst concerted stretch of baseball in my memory for the Giants. 7-20 now in the last 27 at home…
Melvin has to go. Maybe trading for a me 1st like Devers, who refused to play when his team needed him is what ruined the vibe? I liked that trade, but maybe not now.
The vibe with Adames and Chapman leading the way was great earlier in the year. As “true professionals” maybe they can’t stand a guy who do everything it takes to win???
I hope that isn’t it or we are fucked for years to come
“Sometimes managers just have to get fired, whether it’s their fault or not.” Indeed. This team broke my baseball spirit that day Buster announced Melvin’s extension, just a few hours after I’d posted here a bit of a rant demanding the team fire Melvin at the break, which seemed the only way to save this season. Whether it’s really his fault or not, it doesn’t matter anymore. Remembering 1987 when Boston fired John McNamara at the break when the Sox were 4 games over .500 but playing flat and sinking fast, and they came out of the break under Tollway Joe Morgan and won something like 10 or 12 straight and made the post-season. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a season like this one: with still a month and a half to play, this team is still within striking distance of the WC, but it feels so over, like the last week of the season 20 games out. Ugh. Ick. Bleccch….. And that’s your San Francisco One-Runs….
What I would like to know is there are games where the Giants are down 1 or 2 runs in the 8th and Ninth innings, I rarely see them pinch hit for Bailey, why?

I won some months back. Hell, might’ve been last year. They assured me that the prize never expires.
i asked about that yesterday. He said “if it was a year ago I could hood you up. 3 years, I can’t do that.” I was communicating with Raf.
See if you can get yours for Sept 20th.
ah can’t do that. I’m dealing with medical issues this summer that ridiculously constrain my diet. I’ll be able to test the longevity of my prize about Xmas time.
it was RAF and a woman in charge at the restaurant who said that it was completely open ended.

Went to the dentist for cleaning and check up. Come out, turn on iPhone to stream KNBR. Giants down 7-0, already? WTF ?

I did, too! It was more interesting than this game today.

I like going in the early morning. It feels more relaxing to me.
Go to the dentist instead, you’ll have more fun

10-0, 3 fuckin hits … what more is there to say ?
Classic TF quote, because of his fondness for the marginal player who has some big moments. He had a big love for Ishi and those types of players.
You don’t recall Nate’s many crucial contributions?
I remember Nate’s carefully groomed GQ stubble. That must have taken a good amount of time each day.
Nice catch Ramos.
This Saturday is Ramos bobblehead day.
To salute him, The ushers will drop the bobblehead on the ground first, then throw it to the fan behind you…

Sometimes managers just have to get fired, whether it’s their fault or not. This is one of those times…
Not gonna argue with that.
My three words:
Been a non-season
Where did the season go? I don’t know. Kuiper and Krukow have sounded pretty despondent today. They’ll light up their radio shows this week.
On radio, Kuiper sounded giddy and loose. Like he’d had a couple of gummies to get through this blowout…
We helped knock the Dodgers out of sole possession of first place. There’s that.
triple with one out .. what are our odds to get Lee home? Really, who gives a flying fuck at this point, uh?

If there’s a better option available in the era of shortened benches, then it’s another failure of Melvin…
The Mets are hilarious!
They came to D.C. to make a show of force, and of course I’m talking about the Valkyries defeating the Washington Mystics tonight.
Good win. Zandalasini and Burton were great.

Game-winning hit off of a 103 MPH pitch. That’s pretty amazing.
