Turning It Around?
Now that we are hopelessly out of it I could see the Giants starting to play well again. Win just enough to save BoMid’s job. I hope I’m wrong but the season just has that feel to it.

74, show him the door
78, still too late
anything more,
He escapes his fate
81 and Big Flavor’s future win bet looks great.
Heads should roll in a few areas and he would be a good starting place.
Xoot, CW wishes he had enough command of the slider to nibble with it — most of the misses are way off the plate. The few times he’s located it well, it’s been effective, if I’m reading the charts right. The whiff rate on his change up is 40%, which is pretty good. By comparison, Robbie Ray mentor Skubal’s last year was 46.
whiz had one strike out in four innings the other day.
Indeed, he does not have Skubal’s fastball or much of anything else that he can command.
batters see his world class change coming. It doesn’t look like his inert two seamer. Probably obvious out of his hand.
Today’s game is free on MLB.
B/R Giants page has only Devers numbers here. In almost exact same # of PAs, here’s comps vs. Schmitt: Schmitt has 1 less HR/1 more double, 4 more rbis, 14 fewer BBs/20 fewer Ks. OPS .750 (and trail only Chapman .758). Schmitt current slugging pct. .424 leads team.
Another one for Matos! what is up with that?
He’s having a fun weekend.
The best base running team in baseball now with 3 outs on the base paths and zero steals.
Please be for real, Matos, it would almost make up for this season.
Agree Willie and James . . . Kid needs to show us he is for real. Plenty of time before the season ends to make a statement (and for Christ’s sake Melvin, leave the fucking kid in the LU).
Frankly, we are out of the race for a Wild Card. No need to play most of the starters. I want the see the minor leaguers/on the cusp players prove they are not mirages.
One of my favorite MLB players (Yelich). Stand up person too. He was good friends with Ueck before he passed away too.
Now there’s a big league 2nd baseman.
Both Webb and Ray fastballs down a couple of ticks. May as well save some throws in September.
It seems like we’ve seen balls hit away from Lee’s positioning over and over again.
Ray having trouble putting guys away. He sure fell to Earth after his hot start.
Matos nearly misread that into a 2 run triple. As it is, Mil takes the base offered.
Hoo Lee what the Fuck was that?
I think they both were having troubles seeing the ball. The Brewers closed the roof, so we’ll see if that helps.
Nice recovery from Lee. Could have been disaster. Matos too for that matter.
Both balls hit pretty well by Brewers. After Yelich bouncer through IF tied game.
Ray can’t put anyone away. 1-2 gopher ball. 3-6 after his fast start.
No K’s, 4 walks.
All game he looks like he’s throwing from quicksand. Is he hurt?
Yeah, don’t know what’s up w/him. Laboring early and way too many long innings.
Chapman:
2 for last 16.
No extra base hits, no RBIs. 8 Ks. 3 BB. 1 SB.
Time for this dude to start earning his check.
Pfffttt! As usual . . .
And now a caught looking to end the 6th.
Hat trick, going for the golden sombrero.
Schmitt with the huge fail. Jesus.
Chappie backs him up.
I could be wrong, but I can’t imagine there’s a lot of teams with worse fielding pitchers than the Giants. Might be better if Giants pitchers had a rule just to never try to field grounders…
Other than Gilbert/Matos idk any of kids I want to see. Koss as utility, fine.
I’m curious . . . You don’t want to see if Schmitt is the real thing? Or, am I interpreting that you think he has arrived and is the real deal?
Yes. I think he’s in.
Chapman scorches 100 mph fastball for double to RC.
Chapman is just off 10 day IL. If his hand is OK then he should be in there to play D behind pitchers and hopefully get bat going again.
50 years ago today, Ed Halicki no hit the Mets at the Stick.
Born in Kearny, NJ, Ed is now 74.
Appropos of that, sort of, the mythical Satriale’s Pork Store in the Sopranos TV show was always filmed at a place on the main street of Kearny, NJ…
The exterior shots, I mean. Tony and his buds always sat outside the store shooting the breeze, when they weren’t in the back hatching plots to steal stuff and whacking somebody…
Next year, 31 percent more of balls the Giants hit within two feet of the foul pole will be fair.
run ffs
It has literally been a month since Iv’ve witnessed the team get a hit with a RISP.
Rare bad 3rd strike swing by Dom…
Jeeeeeesus.
Smith fooled. Rare occurence.
Giants down by 1 in the 8th, blow a 2 men on, 1 out opportunity to tie or go ahead with middle of LU guys batting. What is that, the gazillionth time that or similar scenario has happened? Barring a minor miracle, kooks likely a Phtttt Giants 9th inning is in order to end the roadie…
If Casey had just taken a slightly poorer swing, he would have fouled it off. He would have spoiled a tough pitch.
The RISP hit that isn’t ! ! ! !
lol . . . too funny unc
Matos again comes through!
If Matos had just taken a slightly shittier swing, Chappie would have scored.
There you go, Chuck …
Fat lot of good that did.
Amazing how many times that when they do get a hit with RISP, the runner can’t or doesn’t score…
all he needed to do was hit a fly ball.
Snarkk said the other day (and was right) about Devers not being able to catch up to fastballs.
Ramos is um, due. 1-19.
The team is 1-119
Money knock!
OK, 2-120.
Ramos for the lead!

!
A bloody hit!
wow. Exciting baseball!
Ramos was sitting on that high fastball. Just needed to go right up the middle, and he did it. Great situational AB…
Ramos 2-20 worked out great clutch 2RBIto take the lead!
Really too bad about that at ‘em ball
Yeah c ya! satisfying comeback W
Hey, a series win!
The minor miracle happens !
One of the better wins of the year…
Surprised about the Giants winning this one.* Could have rolled over, but didn’t. Nice series win. 🙂
*Bailey with the framing assist. lqtm
He woulda won the challenge!
lol . . . yes, he would have!
Solid win.
Wow back to back wins, miracles do exist!
Nice job by Walker to close it out, so is he back to the closer role? RR hasn’t pitched in a few games am I missing something?
Pitched Friday Kat. got 1 out in 8th then 2 in 9th before he gave up HR that lost it.
listened to that one on the radio. Surprisingly never gave up. Miller delivered a quality HOF 9th inning.
fuck yeh! Finally, a win, a series win and something to feel good about.
82-80
The post that will haunt the rest of the year is Dean’s from a couple of weeks ago: a mere 8-8 on those two home stands, and . . .
Even 6-10! That stretch is probably just going to feel increasingly bizarre and . . . so goddamn unnecessary.
Plans that either come to naught, or half a page of scribbled lines…
Everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon
I think McCarver stole the Ueck story he tells about Gibson yelling at him that the only thing he knew about pitching was he couldn’t hit it. He didn’t become regular with STL til 1963; Ueck was his teammate in 64. Ueck version had him ordered by mgr. to go out to mound with irascible Lew Burdette on Braves years earlier, 62/63.
