Cubs are top 3 NL for runs HRs doubles and top 5 for OPS. V and 2 new relievers Posey added plus Walker held them to 2 last night and over last 3 Giants have allowed 6 runs total. Pitching !
Per Slusser since August 8 Eldridge is 9-57 3 HRs 9 RBI 22 Ks. As Sportsdude said, just say no to calling him up. Posey can make that decision next Spring.
I don’t get the reluctance to get these guys time in the bigs.
Are they that fragile that they will simply crumble if they don’t do well? It doesn’t mean that they are gonna be forced to play in the bigs the rest of their careers. It’s just a taste of the action.
It’s exactly what the September call-ups were for.
I agree that arguments based on a player’s potential psychological fragility don’t pass muster. But that also suggests other criticisms about the org “mishandling” players to undercut their “confidence” or sense of routine are also pretty suspect.
Eldridge should absolutely get called up once the AAA season is over. It’s ludicrous to think he’s be ruined mentally if he failed. Let him make a few extra bucks too, he’s had a good season and should get a reward.
They are worried that Eldridge would become like Bart, lose confidence in his abilities. If they bring him up let him be the DH, that way they can see if he can hit up here and learn if he doesn’t hit in the big leagues
Bart has a 665 OPS this year, which is pretty much his career avg. The 799 last year is probably the outlier. He had some good months with the Giants, too. Has he ever claimed the Giants destroyed his confidence? As it is, he’ll probably last at least another 3-5 years on a ML roster.
I don’t understand the point of calling him up. Giants won’t learn anything, neither will Eldridge except how hard game is, as someone already in big slump at AAA ball. It’s not like Giants don’t already have enough 1b/DH and they are not paying Devers to sit, nor Flores.
I’d prefer not to see him, either. Not because they’re risking his psychological ruin; I just don’t want to see the bomb in his first AB and then 15Ks in his next 20. Ala Snarkk, this guy is the finest wine in the cellar. If it’s corked, I don’t want to know too soon, and, if not, I don’t want to waste it on a crummy mid-week meal.
My connected neighbor expressed dismay at what happened to the Red Sox, who did a USAID-like number on their organization. He said the staff Breslow fired were highly respected, so the entire industry was really puzzled.
Interesting that Buster held his nose and worked with Boston. I wonder where those fired scouts et al are now.
BART started 2022 like a plausible successor to posey. Not hof levelish of course but more than serviceable. He crushed mistakes, improved defensively, etc. Kruk n kuip praised his confidence. Then it all vanished. Good to see him get some of it back.
Adding Eldridge to the expanded roster only makes sense if he’s not going to be traded. There is no position for him next year and I doubt the Giants want to keep him at AAA, so I could see him being traded this off season.
One other noteworthy bit in that Murph piece above is the hint that the Giants never went all out to invest in the broader organization as other model franchises have done. Maybe this isn’t news to others who’ve been complaining about the tight-fistedness of ownership, which I’ve always interpreted as a lament about player payroll size. So, they decided to get modern with Zaidi, but did it on the cheap by directing the flow of new $$$ largely to the major league club. At least that’s how I read the article.
Just got a last minute extra ticket invite to the game, close to the dugout, what the hell, I was gonna waste my time watching tonight anyway. I’ll get to observe Carson’s undeceptively deceptive change live.
Devers has not exactly been racing to 1B on his very frequent ground outs in past weeks, and not just those he regularly hits to the right side. Last night, on two occasions I paid attention to he jogged down the line on grounders and basically let up when about 15 feet from the 1b bag, long before the infielder’s throw was caught. If there’s a bad throw or the 1Bman muffs the catch, he’s still going to be out from lack of hustle.
I don’t know if he still has a problem leg or groin, but it doesn’t look like he dogs it when he’s running to the other bases. It’s a bad look to dog it on the base paths for a dude who is certainly not getting it done at the bat anywhere near as much as I’m sure Buster and the rest of Giants nation expected…
In the 2020 first round of the draft, the Giants took Bailey 13th. The Cubs took PCA 19th. Another fail by the Giants to recognize and draft superior OF talent that will translate into a very good to great major league player.
For the season so far, PCA is now at 28 HRs, 31 SBs, 82 RBIs, .805 OPS, 129 OPS+, WAR 6.5, GIDP is 1 in 129 games – ONE! He has it all – massive speed on the bases, power, + arm, great glove, great instincts. PCA played in 123 games last year, is now in his first full year in the Bigs. He can only get better, and already looks like a potential HOFer…p
Reds lost 5-1 to Dogs. They got 6 hits 6 BBs but only run scored off HR. They struck out 19 times. Ohtani got 9 of them in 5 innings. Each of last 2 pen guys that finished game struck out side.
Thanks Loo for link to 1964 standings with 10 games left. Wild finish and Cards won WS too.
Fun fact: my HS b-ball coach and mentor, Italian guy who grew up in Temescal part of Oakland, knew Ernie Broglio family.
Phils collapse also cost ASG hero Callison MVP over Boyer I’m sure…
Giants had an easy schedule down the stretch vs. lowly Astros and Cubs, but lost 1 to Astros and 4 to Cubs.

JV is in the running for the Willie Mac award now.
Hey why not? A parting gift.
It’ll prolly be Webbie.

this should be an automatic trip to AAA for this

Wow, or maybe single A.
I blame the first base coach.
Some men you just cain’t reach.

Eldridge and Rodriguez should both get some Sept time.

FYI, links to twitter don’t render in either Jetpack or the old WP app on the iPhone, at least not mine.

Maybe fluctuations of confidence are simply part of the package for any player. Like hot streaks and slumps.
we’ve all known bipolar personalties, I’m sure.

No Nick Kurtz for us, eh? Seems very plausible.

Bring home a winner.
Have to help Flavor get to his 81.
thanks in advance for the work you’re doing to help me get there.

didn’t look this up but this has to be a joke right?

Like the Giants, Bailey has actually been “clutch” with RISP relative to his overall BA, 227 vs 209.
That’s incredible. At .017 with RISP, I read that to mean he’s been essentially useless so far at bat with RISP this entire season …
It’s like the 200 runs Verlander has given up.

Mets drafted PCA in ’20, then traded him to Cubs a year later for Javier Baez. But your point remains.
Never dull moment. hope James settled into his seat in time to see Whis changeup in action.
Devers dinger!
Gone!
After avoiding disaster Whis now pitching with lead. Most of Devers bombs at home have been either to CF or just left of there. Impressive
the change up looks pretty good tonight. Whiz has already matched his SO total from his last start.
nice bomb from Devers!
Oh damn.
whiz has no command of his weak FB.
The Whiz fizzle.
HR has only 1 HR since the All Star break…
Dom gets us the lead.
Ramos-esque.
Great play by Adames. Doubled em up..
Hard to effing believe Whis got out of that. BABIP gods smile upon his form
1-6-4-3.
Fuck yeah, now that some weird ass shit.
cubs OF is putting on a show!
Heads up by Chapman?
Yeah you right Mac.
lulz.
Giants two out hitting.
Doink. Smith scores now Chapman does after another RISP hit. Counsell sure did SF a favor leaving Rea in there.
Devers, again!
Having a night.
Devers 3-run dinger!
Devers learning the yard…
Wow what a thrash. Devers off LHP. Gotta admit Knizner is growing on me. Hit and a walk tonight and got Whis through 5, no easy accomplishment
Lex24 on MCC: “Wow. It must be April again.”
100 mph with heavy sink? Peguero’s impressing me.
Very much. Fun to watch.
Chappy bomb!
Chapman getting hot.
11-3, 8th inning I’m pretty sure I can see a W tomorrow.
