15 Wins To Go
With James stepping up and helping the team take another step towards 81 wins this year I am truly getting excited about this upcoming series. This is going to be razor thin all the way to the wire. I know all the Flappers stand in unison with me.
Baltimore has been a horrific disappointment this season I can’t imagine they’re too invested in winning anything right now. And with our group of vets freshly relieved from any pressure to win I am expecting a solid effort from the team this weekend.
Beyond the quest for the weighty 81, the fact that the team is stuck with the Chapman, Devers, and Adames for all eternity has somehow turned this pitiful September into . . . . meaningful baseball? I’m usually tuned out by now.
How the hell does Tristan Beck have a near 5 ERA with a 1.1 WHIP? He’s pitched 37 innings and only given up 3 bombs.
LOB maybe? Still don’t know how Whis held Cubs down for 5 day before.
Beside the 3 you mentioned, giants did have 4 younger home grown ones in starting lineup yesterday-Ramos Matos Schmitt and Bailey, plus Lee in 2nd year here. hope for future plus pitching.
?–there was discussion on MCC couple days ago about bringing back Verlander. what do you think?
Even though I’ve ragged on Verlander, I also remain a little puzzled over why he’s given up so many hits. His fastball velo is back to where it was in 2023, but the chase rate has stayed down like in 24. That probably helps account for the uptick in walks. The spin on his pitches hasn’t declined. Age shouldn’t affect your ability to locate a pitch, but who knows? The FIP is good. I could see him being solid next year with better luck.
I would love to see us get to .500. We have been playing some really good ball lately and it’s been fun to see the bats wake up.
I just heard while watching the US Open that Randy Moffitt has died.
Somehow I remember him as the first longhair on the Giants. When someone that age dies, I always look to be assured it wasn’t generic natural causes, even though you never get that info in the first reports.
Billie Jean’s brother iirc.
you mean like mass shooting or air crash? He was 76. That’s a helluva good WAR I think. “Long illness”.
today’s Charlie Parker’s birthday.
the court shot the tariffs.
Giants have a winning streak.
The info didn’t flow as readily back then of course, but I don’t recall any stories or interviews that touched on being the far less famous sibling.
Even though Team USA’s numbers are mediocre, I think 76 is still a below avg WAR. Yeah, long illness, if you’re lucky enough to avoid one of those in youthful old age, your numbers will probably help in the fight against the team’s drop in WAR.
get much past 80 and the number means less, in my experience. Hit or miss then. Although I suppose as you can’t miss what you never had some people don’t even notice.
This must be 1976? Remember all these guys. Dave Heaverlo WAY ahead of his time with the shaved head.
Did Sadek beat him to it?
“SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Catchers Mike Sadek and Dave Rader joined the San Francisco Giants’ “bald-headed club” Saturday by shaving their heads before Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Relief pitcher Dave Heaverlo was the first man on the team to go to the look, showing up in spring training with his head shaved.”
TJ for RR. Thats bad news.
saw that coming from a mile away.
Bummer!!
Ok, no one get mad, but it’s possible RR’s later season troubles in the 9th didn’t have anything to do with adjusting to a new role. For your future consideration. BTW, I removed the quotes around “role”, a sure sign of a new youthful old age maturity!
Ray’s blistered finger may not matter so much after all. Weird game. Already.
So much for bases loaded blues!
Pretty dominant inning from Ray, as good as he’s looked.
Groundballs going through, two strike hits on way below the zone change ups, there’s still more of that coming their way.
Giants are finally fun to watch and the game is on goddamn Apple.
Ray working on one of his more ridiculous innings now …
Adidas commercial with VU’s “I’m Sticking with You.” I sang that as a lullaby to my kids. They never asked about the “soldiers fighting with the Cong” line.
Steve Earle is letting Chevy use Copperhead Road. Needed the money for his son.
speaking of Cong.
I don’t have the internet TV channel, so I’m watching the A’s game. Braden calls a slider a “slide-piece,” because he likes to use player jargon. The jargon gets old quickly.
He’s annoying.
Dom Smith!
whoa! Splash hit Dom!
I chuckle when Krukow says “scoutin’ report.” It’s pretty funny that a millionaire who grew up in LA talks that way.
The Dodger game is on the MLB network. They’re behind 3-0 to the D-Backs.
No baseball news this season surprised me more than Buehler cratering this season.
Since no one acknowledged it … I’m more excited by Matos’ bomb.
Starting to feel like he’s back in play…
Willy’s old fashioned stats like HR/RBI might not look bad on paper at the end of the season. Could be our first 30 HR guy in a generation. He turns 30 next week…
Gilbert with the knuckler. Just caught up. Matos with a big-boy shot.
Watching Chief of War. Found the site of one of the main battles on the big island, and hiked the Kilauea crater 3 days before it erupted.
Woulda been cool to see that.
Free Willy.
Wow. Fun to see us being the recipient of bad defense for a change.
If Dom goes FA he’s outta here…
Yeah I don’t see how Giants can keep him btw devers and Eldridge. Too bad, great season here.
3 errors by O’s in same inning as Giants pile on.
Not exactly Brooks, Belanger and Blair may they rest in peace…
32 GG between the 3 guys above. That’s almost not believable…
Blair won 4 WS, others 2 each. Tremendous players/different era.
Beat LA 3 times for those 4 rings too.
First one 1966 was last time Koufax ever pitched, retiring at age 30.
4 hits for Matos, but someone needs to teach him how to slide.
the Matos slide! What the fuck? He hurt himself with that barrell roll.
I was depressed thinking of this horrible lineup for years to come. We have some hope!
