The March to .500 Hits a Snag
Well, nothing crushing hope like an 11-1 drubbing. I love how Homer Kruk is like “yeah the start time is really going to affect these bats” but it seems to have only affected one team’s bats.
I turned on the radio in the 2nd or 3rd and Kruk goes “98 MPH slider PAINT at the knees. That’s an unhittable pitch.” And I’m thinking “hey, ok, let’s go, Seymour must finally be DEALING” only to find out he’d just given up 4 runs.
Heat wave in Bay Area. Should be mid-70s at the O. As SD said park does play differently in day time.
it would be nice if Giants hitters could also take advantage of the heat wave.
yeah more like Friday. O’s have scored 19 runs in 2 games here.
Catch any of horse racing yesterday? I missed it but Fierceness won Pac Classic for Velasquez and Prat won 3 at Del Mar. Desormeaux won Torrey Pines stakes there race too.
what do you think of Kentucky Downs all turf racing? Lot of top jockeys riding there.
Getting ready for football. Did you know that in the 1969 AFL Divisional Game (KC-NY), following a goal line stand by the Chiefs, the Jets’ Jim Turner actually kicked a 7 yard FG…
Goal posts on the field was just plain dumb. Can’t remember the game but the Niners lost a TD late, and the game, when a pass to to wide open Gene Washington was defended by the goal post.
Let’s see less of Seymour…
Let’s see less of Seymour…
I thought you said less.
The protagonist of the new NYC in the Giuliani days movie “Caught Stealing” is a washed out ex-prospect who’s also a Giants fan.
SF Giants, that is.
named Hank Thompson like Willie Mays’s and Monte Irvin’s OF mate in the early 50s. Wild and troubled life thereafter.
Nice!
It’s possible that at some point today there will not be a single .300 hitter in the NL. Freeman and T. Turner are currently leading the league – both hitting exactly .300 at the moment…
I know what you’re thinking, “thank God for Kyle Schwarber!”
About twenty five years ago an old friend emailed me that all nine of the Angels’ starters that night were batting .300 or better. At least one slipped under the line in that game.
Here ya go, Xoot:

Technology sure is amazing, although it’s destroyed my life…
thank you! 25 years? I was off on that.
Kentucky downs is fantastic. I went there a year or two before the pandemic. The Boney one is out there with his kids right now. Man, Johnny V put on a clinic yesterday aboard Fierceness.
JV comment – not for the uninitiated:
“I wanted to stay off his mouth, so I had to sit on him a little.”
Mets are clowning it up at Citifield…
Loo’s 11:10am – That will be the catalyst for our dumbass MLB Commissioner to mandate a “beer league softball” mound versus the dimensions of the existing mound.
If not that, then require 4 strikes for an out. The horrible lack of offense brought on by all these flamethrowers flinging 100 mph is contributing mightily to the epidemic of boring ass baseball, as produced often by our favorite club…
Why take melatonin? Any 7:30pm game is yawn inducing by the 4th or 5th inning.
and the reason jockey’s go there is for the massive purses up for grabs every race. Allowance races have a purse of 190K. They do it right in Kentucky, their casino and sportsbook funds the massive purses. If California wasn’t so stupid they could do something similar but they won’t because they are run by incompetent rubes.
It’s also just a sweet ass environment, I’m sure the jockeys have a blast. The owners just walk around among the patrons. It’s a huge party and everyone is always in a great mood.
When geezers like me have all died off, you’ll stop hearing about what a great sport this once was. No one I know remembers or gives a fuck for Flightline or Arrogate. What a sickening joke racing’s become…
Sorry, Flav. Didn’t mean to take it out on you…
it’s cool. There are some things wrong with racing for sure. But I still love it and will be at the Breeders Cup again this year.
I would never dispute the fact that even now, few things are better than a day at the track – especially a winning one…
you can throw boxing on that list as well.
Andie B. was there the other day while Gabby is at Del Mar.
Just looked at last 3 races on card today, 2 are $1 million/other is $500 K. wow
“good success” as opposed to “bad success”?
annoying
Nibbble nibble walk. Nibble nibble talk.
Oh, baby that’s what i hate
Boom! Had Devers fooled with splitter before that
75 pitches in 3. Will he go 5?
Could be Ray and Verlander back to back not getting an old fashioned W because of their inefficiency.
In the last 60 years, there have been 7 teams 5 games or more out of a playoff spot on 9/1 or later that have made up the deficit. At least that’s what the AI sez.
AI said John Curtiss pitched for the Giants in 1978 and the D-Backs in 2024.
Big differences in results depending on which service you use and how you ask the question.
academics are already grousing about the rush to replace composition classes with AI inquiry training. The new feudalism has room, apparently.
sac fly rbi for Adames, who leads team with 8. I think Giants top 5 NL for those.
Verlie needs a quick ininning
For anyone not watching..they just put up a stat Adames and Devers 1st Giant pair to both hit 9 HRs in a calendar month since Bonds Kent in August 2002. Cool!
Bonds 2004 last Giant to drive in 100?
20 this month for Devers. 93 total so far on season.
E’s & O’s.
V getting rest as O’s face planting amid RISP hits. 7-0
“And the wheels have fallen off the Baltimore Orioles.”
”No one I know remembers or gives a fuck for Flightline or Arrogate.”
I wondered if these were

Just fucking lob the ball up there
JV thru 5!
Oh shit, I rewound.
120 to get thru 5. Wow.
Getting the love.
To James’ point, Giants will enter Sept 5 games behind Mets. Mets next 10 games on road vs Tigers, Reds & Phils. Mets also have 3 left with both Padres & Cubs. Course Reds, Cards & D-Backs also in mix.
Small glimmer of hope for miracle finish to 2025? 🧐
Giants have day off Thursday after they leave Coors so V won’t have to pitch until Saturday. And while it certainly wasn’t easy he did shut O’s out through 5.
Break up the Giants!
Great game today so far, and the Valkyries got it done yesterday.
How about those “bestest fans in the whole world” Cardinal fans? A few years of mediocrity and they bailed out on their team just like every other MLB fan-base. The Cardinal fan-base narrative is destroyed. Good riddance.
I guess the Giants decided to make up for all the missed runs for Verlie in 1 game.
Wait, what? Bivens gets a save?
Even mediocrity has its limits, Zumie.
3 innings
Ahhhhh wasn’t really paying attention .
Krukow said the O’s fouled off 38 balls off of Verlie.
That is nuts.
Krukow said “verlie”? That is nuts.
OK, enough with the gatorade bath. I’d be standing there with a bat in my hand.
To Dean’s point about Mets upcoming 10 game road trip: they’re 45-27 at home 28-37 on road. Only 3 bottom teams in each NL division have won fewer road games.
Devers’ drive gave the Giants a homer in 14 straight games for the first time since 2002. Devers and Adames both hit nine homers in August — the first Giants teammates with at least nine in a month since Jeff Kent (14) and Barry Bonds (10) in August 2002.
These Giants got mixed up in some sort of Marvel Multiverse calamity. The Giants we had must have been sent to an alternate reality/variant. Let’s hope those guys are stuck there.
Posey was last Giant with 100 rbi season in 2012 (103). Pence had 99 in 2013, 104 total in 2012–59 with Phils/45 with Giants.
