A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The March to .500 Hits a Snag

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 31, 2025

Well, nothing crushing hope like an 11-1 drubbing. I love how Homer Kruk is like “yeah the start time is really going to affect these bats” but it seems to have only affected one team’s bats.

I turned on the radio in the 2nd or 3rd and Kruk goes “98 MPH slider PAINT at the knees. That’s an unhittable pitch.” And I’m thinking “hey, ok, let’s go, Seymour must finally be DEALING” only to find out he’d just given up 4 runs.

Heat wave in Bay Area. Should be mid-70s at the O. As SD said park does play differently in day time.

it would be nice if Giants hitters could also take advantage of the heat wave.

yeah more like Friday. O’s have scored 19 runs in 2 games here.

Catch any of horse racing yesterday? I missed it but Fierceness won Pac Classic for Velasquez and Prat won 3 at Del Mar. Desormeaux won Torrey Pines stakes there race too.

what do you think of Kentucky Downs all turf racing? Lot of top jockeys riding there.

Getting ready for football. Did you know that in the 1969 AFL Divisional Game (KC-NY), following a goal line stand by the Chiefs, the Jets’ Jim Turner actually kicked a 7 yard FG…

Goal posts on the field was just plain dumb. Can’t remember the game but the Niners lost a TD late, and the game, when a pass to to wide open Gene Washington was defended by the goal post.

It’s possible that at some point today there will not be a single .300 hitter in the NL. Freeman and T. Turner are currently leading the league – both hitting exactly .300 at the moment…

About twenty five years ago an old friend emailed me that all nine of the Angels’ starters that night were batting .300 or better. At least one slipped under the line in that game.

If not that, then require 4 strikes for an out. The horrible lack of offense brought on by all these flamethrowers flinging 100 mph is contributing mightily to the epidemic of boring ass baseball, as produced often by our favorite club…

and the reason jockey’s go there is for the massive purses up for grabs every race. Allowance races have a purse of 190K. They do it right in Kentucky, their casino and sportsbook funds the massive purses. If California wasn’t so stupid they could do something similar but they won’t because they are run by incompetent rubes.

It’s also just a sweet ass environment, I’m sure the jockeys have a blast. The owners just walk around among the patrons. It’s a huge party and everyone is always in a great mood.

Great game today so far, and the Valkyries got it done yesterday.

How about those “bestest fans in the whole world” Cardinal fans? A few years of mediocrity and they bailed out on their team just like every other MLB fan-base. The Cardinal fan-base narrative is destroyed. Good riddance.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2025 at 4:20 pm

Devers’ drive gave the Giants a homer in 14 straight games for the first time since 2002. Devers and Adames both hit nine homers in August — the first Giants teammates with at least nine in a month since Jeff Kent (14) and Barry Bonds (10) in August 2002.

These Giants got mixed up in some sort of Marvel Multiverse calamity. The Giants we had must have been sent to an alternate reality/variant. Let’s hope those guys are stuck there.

Posey was last Giant with 100 rbi season in 2012 (103). Pence had 99 in 2013, 104 total in 2012–59 with Phils/45 with Giants.
