A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

And Then There Were 12

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 2, 2025

The most perfect of all the .500’s….69-69….now just 12 glorious wins to go to drag Big Flavor across the finish line….

Really surprised to see Teng have success like that. His sweeper was MOVING and you just rarely see that at that altitude. On the radio they said he had something like 89 k’s in 50 something innings in the minors. He doesn’t throw very hard so that is an impressive K/inning ratio.

Webb today!

Really happy for Adames who did his usual underwhelming shit to start the season only to turn out exactly as we expected. 30 home run guys don’t grow on trees and we should know having not seen one since Bonds. He’ll get there this year.

Looks like playing loose might actually be the key.

Will this team continue to blast a HR or two (or more) every game? No. Will this thin pen continue to hold a lead for four innings (or more) every game? No. But it’s fun to see them fire on all cylinders for a while.

Yesterday’s intelligent talk here about necessary minimum team OPS and necessary off-season moves got pretty speculative. Come on. Given the contracts, won’t Chapman Adames and Devers be the core for a while? I can live with that. But Devers is the only one whose OPS is likely to rise much above .800. They need another guy in the LU who can hit that well. Ramos? I doubt it. Matos? uh, no. I think I’d like to see yet another new starting LF next April. Who? I have no idea. I draw the line at fantasy. Buster’s biggest off season challenge may be Black Hole Bailey. Now there’s a LU OPS slot that needs to improve and he shows no signs of being capable.

“Given the contracts, won’t Chapman Adames and Devers be the core for a while?”

      Undoubtedly.

I’m with you about a new LF. Ramos could be a trade chip with a big if – Gilbert, Matos, and/or Schmitt continue to impress this season. Realistically, that might not be possible. “Black Hole Bailey” (love the nick’) – I agree should be a back up or traded.

Give O’s credit. After Giants waxed them Sunday they rallied vs. 2 Padres pen standouts and beat them at petco 4-3. Pads have now lost 6 of 8 to fall 2.5 back of Dogs.

The odds of Flavor being forced to root against his team for more than a game or two are growing.

Matos back in RF vs. LHP Freelund. Fun fact : He has 35 hits on season-17 singles 18 XBHs. 9 doubles 1 triple 8 HRs.

    wtf?

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 2, 2025 at 5:48 pm

Freelund has already given up 20 bombs. Rox have allowed 500 runs at home this year.

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 2, 2025 at 5:46 pm

Is Devers out? Did we score 0 runs and 2 outs on the home run?

  9. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on September 2, 2025 at 5:46 pm

I just put it on, what the hell is going on?

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 2, 2025 at 5:51 pm

Adames at 1st, Devers hits the home run, and Freeland loses his mind and yells at Devers for watching the bomb.

The fight ensued. Both Adames and Devers left the basepaths But Devers did get to 1st.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 2, 2025 at 5:52 pm

If they throw Devers out, then this is a total hose job.

There goes the left side of the infield.

If Flores has to play Giants lose DH.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 2, 2025 at 6:08 pm

Schmitt takes over 2b, Devers at 3b. wow first time all year.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 2, 2025 at 6:11 pm

Like falling off bicycle. Devers looks fine.

this is irritating that someone as shitty and meaningless as Kyle Freeland can fuck up this game and potentially derail my road to 81…..

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 2, 2025 at 6:12 pm

So per what james said earlier, do Giants have to hit win total at 81 exactly?

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on September 2, 2025 at 6:45 pm

no. I bet the Giants at the start of the year to win over 80.5 games.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 2, 2025 at 6:12 pm

The piecemeal infield all got a shot there.

    These umps are horseshit.

  17. James's avatar James said, on September 2, 2025 at 6:32 pm

This guy may be the worst pitcher in MLB. He gives up multiple shots in the first, but no runs, and now he has 3 scoreless innings.

  18. James's avatar James said, on September 2, 2025 at 6:38 pm

if the Rockies take the lead at any time this game, the Giants should drill the next 3 batters.

  19. willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 2, 2025 at 6:42 pm

Devers starts DP to end inning. Good for him. Get revenge on scoreboard.

    • James's avatar James said, on September 2, 2025 at 7:23 pm

I usually really hate the payback stuff, but in this case, the appeal to revenge is mostly about defying the umps.

  20. James's avatar James said, on September 2, 2025 at 6:47 pm

I don’t want look up if this guy has gone 4 straight innings without giving up a run this year. This game is not going to end well.

I do find it interesting Melvin is replacing Ramos defensively late in games. Wonder how this impacts off season moves by Posey. As you said earlier, he’s in big HR drought. He hit 6 in May alone, and he’s hit 6 total since in 3 months and over 300 ABs.
