A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Fuck Colorado

Talk about the best revenge. Matt Chapman, come on down! This Gilbert thing is truly surprising me. After starting like he didn’t belong up here he’s been our best hitters not named Devers or Adames. What if this was real? What if this is all real? Shit, I only need to get to 81 but what if they…..keep…..winning?

in his first mlb game Gilbert had three weak ABs–SO, two routine groundouts–then in his fourth AB, team ahead by four , he worked the count to 3-0. He tied to annihilate the next pitch. Failed, but he tried. And he smirked toward the dugout.

wtf? The kid had just parachuted in from aaa a few hours earlier and he’s that cocky?

well, he’s delivering. And he patrols the OF and runs the bases better than los dos babosos.

Baggs in TA: “They’re 59-48 when he’s (Chapman) in the lineup and 12-21 when he’s not.” Cherry picking stats? just a coincidence that after he went on IL offense went further into tank, or not?

No coincidence. Crappy is good. I like the way he and Devers get along, too.

      Copied this from somewhere…

The Giants haven’t had an official team captain since Jack Clark (no, Brandon Belt and his taped-on C was never actually the captain), and only two teams have one with Aaron Judge holding that title for the Yankees and Salvador Pérez for the Kansas City Royals. It’s a purely symbolic title and doesn’t really come with any practical benefits or responsibilities, but it would be a vote of confidence in Chapman that he is someone to look up to in the clubhouse.

Just when I was ready switch into full Niner mode they give us a reason to keep paying attention. The best part is the renewed hope we can compete next year with a few tweaks. 2 weeks ago I was thinking our core lineup and we were doomed to 75 wins for the next 5 years. Now we have hope. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies!

Jose Guillen tsk tsk. Ross had been acquired Aug 22 off waivers from Marlins. checked game logs and he went 4-9 in 3 games, then 2-26. 9/17 started 10 game hitting streak and he was just getting going. 2010 only post season ABs he ever had in career that ran 10 years.

Oh– significance of “71-69” went completely over my head, sorry.

If Gilbert turns into the real deal (and why not?) that would be a little payback for Duvall and Reynolds. Dude is up there with Altuve at 5’8″ and is pretty much a psycho. In a good way. Chappie strangling him after his home run was pretty funny.

Maybe it was the absence of Chapman that drove this team into the ground. I don’t know, but at least they are a kick in the ass to watch. Fun times ahead.

They still need starting pitching, and one of Ramos/Matos to pull ahead in the brains department, but they are definitely heading in the right direction.

Dallas and Philly tonight to kick off the football season.

Let’s see how Dallas does without Micah. Looks to be a slaughter with Dallas on the road.

Ramos has been a disappointment considering his current numbers vs early in the year, and expectation of improvement after last year. get another OF (or gilbert) and Matos / Ramos platoon

  6. mrsprtdude's avatar mrsprtdude said, on September 4, 2025 at 9:23 am

If the OF guys are enough they can get some more pitching. #2/3 starter. get Rogers back (or another set up guy) . Get a back up catcher, vet DH who can be a 1st DH combo if Eldridge makes it. Easy right?

I am thinking Matos over Ramos, Matos went back to AAA and made it a point to learn how to hit big league pitching, he worked hard to get back up here. Defense I think he is better than Ramos also. So next year, Matos, Lee, Gilbert.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 4, 2025 at 11:18 am

Ramos has been one of Giants top OBP guys (.341) all season and still is despite power outage. He has higher OB than Lee and 2nd highest batting average .268 on team. Only 25. Matos (OB .275) and Gilbert, both of whom playing well right now, deserve the ABs but 4 decent hitting OFs is good problem to have.

Gilbert inability to catch that ball in 9th last night that fell in for double bugged me. McCray gave him a look on his way back to LF where he had subbed in for Ramos. Looked like he backed off to avoid collision and thought Gilbert as CF was gonna take over and make the play.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 4, 2025 at 3:21 pm

Looking at the ball, I thought it was more McCray’s play as it was tailing toward LF.

But counting on Gilbert to take charge in CF being a green rook is something he’ll have to learn. If he keeps hitting, hey figure your shit out and go.

Ramos/Gilbert platoon with a slugger in LF. Who? No idea.

It’s a mathematical certainty that if Verlander gets his season ERA below 4, they make the playoffs.

Ah Loo–that was final score in game Elvin Hayes and Houston beat Alcindor and UCLA. Man that was big one in my junior year of HS.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 4, 2025 at 12:52 pm

Eye was bothering Alcindor that night. Got revenge in Semi Finals rematch by thrashing Cougars. Never cared for Hayes myself

I liked this Gilbert kid from the start, even though he was not hitting in his first handful of games, trying to figure out a way to not get owned by MLB pitchers. What’s to like? He’s quick, and he’s fast, and obviously has good OF instincts from the get-go appearances with the Big Club. Now, he’s figured out some hitting approach. Give him more games, more time. He could be a real find, a highly useful piece of that trade for Rogers. The best thing about him is his energy. Something this team has sorely, sorely lacked this season, and in recent years. Not the “rah rah”, almost performative energy of Adames. Real energy, real passion in actually playing the game, completing baseball actions with aplomb, quickness and intelligence. Then, transferring that onto the rest of the players with an infectious attitude of success and smart play. The guy is a sparkplug, as we used to say. He’s smallish, but he can smoke the ball when he flushes it on his bat…

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on September 4, 2025 at 6:49 pm

i like the energy too. Baseball players are so fucking boring and staid in all their reactions (except many of the Latin guys). It’s refreshing to see this guy bring a little college energy to the team.

Paige B is in town. She’s really impressive. Can score from all over the floor is good passer and doesn’t force stuff or make bad decisions with ball. Love her midrange pullups and she can get to that spot off dribble or using a screen.

Steve Adams posted this on MLB Trade Rumors today:

“I’ll probably be wrong about who signs Tucker when I make my final pick in our free agent contest, but if I’m forced to make a pick right now, the Giants get my bet.”

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 5, 2025 at 8:36 am

so Tucker is the slugging OF they need to add to a Ramos/Gilbert and Lee alignment? Ok.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 5, 2025 at 8:45 am

yeah not buying it. Cubs fans have been complaining about him (long slump poor D) for awhile. Not worth $$$/years given commitments Giants already have.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 5, 2025 at 8:53 am

I’ve never much liked Tucker myself but his ops and war this season are way better than anyone we have currently. And cubs fan chatter probably won’t factor into Posey’s equations.

      • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on September 5, 2025 at 9:11 am

I’ve glimpsed some Tucker numbers … since 2021 he’s had around 500 AB each season putting him in vicinity of 30 HR; 30 2B; 30 SB for each except last year when he had less than 300 AB (due to injury?).

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 5, 2025 at 9:30 am

I think he fouled a couple of pitches off his shin for one bad luck injury. I have no idea what giants budget may be but if they want to spend money that’s fine with me. Just get a catcher and a couple of pitchers too.

Devers picks up Ramos. Chance for Adams to get them back in it if they stop chasing.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 7, 2025 at 12:58 pm

There you go. Get a good pitch to hit . No where to put anyone now.
