Try to take Two of Three
Ok here we go, if this run stalls it will be because our pitching staff is in shambles. Seymour today, then Verlander, then I don’t know. Teng?

wtf is even happening, man
Another heist from the Mets is what’s happening. They’re like what the old Kansas City Athletics were to the 50’s and 60’s powerhouse Yanks…
Copied from Google AI:
The Kansas City Athletics (1955-1967) and the New York Yankees had a history of frequent and at times controversial trades, particularly during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Some trades were viewed as mutually beneficial or relatively even, while others were considered heavily skewed in the Yankees’ favor, leading to accusations that the A’s functioned as a de facto Yankees farm team.
Here are some of the most notable trades between the two franchises during the Kansas City Athletics era:
Some significant trades included the December 1959 trade where the A’s received Norm Siebern, Hank Bauer, Marv Throneberry, and Don Larsen, while the Yankees acquired Roger Maris, Kent Hadley, and Joe DeMaestri. Maris went on to achieve significant success, breaking Babe Ruth’s single-season home run record in 1961. Other notable exchanges involved players like Bobby Shantz, Clete Boyer, Hector Lopez, and Ralph Terry moving to New York, while players such as Bob Cerv had a strong season for the A’s after being traded from the Yankees. The full list of trades and the players involved can be found on Baseball Almanac.
These trades often benefited the Yankees significantly, reinforcing the perception of the Athletics serving as a “farm team” and contributing to the Yankees’ success in that era.
The A’s GM in the late 50s was Parke Carroll. Ex- Yankee exec. The A’s owner Arnold Johnson was deeply invested in the Yankees.
It was so obviously collusion that he had to testify in front of Congress. Of course nothing came of that. Then his brain exploded and all that stopped. Charlie O bought the team and moved ’em west.
Read all about this a while back. Crazy stuff. There was even a KC sporstwriter involved iirc.
the zero SOs is startling for a guy who’s always swinging for the wall. But four games. See how the month goes.
well, seemingly always swinging for the wall. I may be exaggerating there.
188 pitches total. So…

and look at his take rates compared to league averages. No wonder he’d only walked once.

Wang Dang Want a Sweet Poon Teng.
Prior to Rockies series FanGraphs gave Giants 2% odds to make playoffs. Now up to 4.4% odds. Realize it’s very unlikely but at my age each season has more immediacy. So why not speculate?
Giants gained 1 game on Mets during Rockies series. Need to pick up 2nd game in shadow of Gateway Arch this wknd and 3rd game vs D-Backs next week. That would leave Giants 3 behind Mets (factoring in tiebreaker and need to finish ahead of Mets) heading into final 16 game stretch. Remember Mets have 3 in Cincy and 4 in Philly next 7 days.
But as Craig pointed out, neither Webb nor Ray pitching against Cards so 2 out of 3 more realistic goal this wknd. But 10-1 record past couple weeks has given me reason to dream big.
Wang Dang Sweet Poon Teng had a nice outing in Colo. That’s encouraging.
Seymour Gopherballs not so much.
On flip side possible negative side effect of Giants recent surge is to over-evaluate current roster. Giants set at DH and in CF, 3B & SS and likely LF for next year though I waver at times on Ramos. Schmitt probable leading candidate to be starting 2B opening day 2026.
But Posey/Minasian have big decisions to make at RF, 1B and catcher. Gilbert nice story but one week does not guarantee any long-term success. There’s reason he’s been in minors almost his entire career. Dom Smith another great story but is he brought back as bridge to Bryce Eldridge? Is Eldridge ready to jump to majors next year? And is Bailey’s defensive strengths enough to overcome .210 BA?
After Webb, Ray and Roupp, Giants need to find 4th & 5th starters next year. Another lefty in bullpen would be valuable asset.
Bottom line is regardless of finish to 2025 season significant work must be done offseason to position Giants as legitimate playoff contender in 2026.
Gilbert’s 24. It’s not like he’s Yaz and getting his first shot at 29. Matos has a month to solidify (or lose) his spot in RF. Ramos needs to up his consistency. One stud OFer would help a lot.
And a catcher that can hit over his weight. Bailey’s fall-off has been dramatic this year.
As Loo mentioned, the Fever’s Clark has been shut down for the rest of the WNBA season. In a 44 game regular season, a severe groin muscle injury can pretty much end the season for a player. It’s a bummer. She’s helped grow the WNBA so much; it should have been a fun season for her this year.
One of the best stories of the season is the Valkyries making the playoffs in their first season! Their head coach should get the coach of the year award, but the league might blow that opportunity.
The Adames t-shirt that’s going to be given away is a very nice-looking shirt.
Devers goes deep!
Adames too!
Adames goes deep!
An adios pelota from Miller as Giants go back to back. Little cushion for Seymour.
2-0. Good start.
Early visit from pitching coach. Serves Cards right for those unis and hat
Rafa, ooh la la
There you go, throw strikes. Seymour has 97-98 heat. No need to be nibbling.
Cards score about as many runs as Giants have and team OPS is actually few points lower.
Plus they’re missing Contreras and his team best 30 doubles 20 HRs and .786 OPS
black hole Bailey with a hit and a rbi! Miraculous.
yeah nicely done. Get Seymour as much cushion as possible.
rafa obliges with another knock! Only out of inning is the one Gilbert stung to CF.
Drama in Cincy. Reds have sacks loaded 0 out trailing 5-4 bottom 9
diaz Ks noelvi Marte and Elly. Lux AB.
Lux grounds out to 2b. arrghh
Elly’s fairly tanked since July.
Damn Reds.
not that it’s gonna matter but wtf do they not send Lee with none on and 2
out but send Gilbert with Lee in scoring position ?
cost em a run if Gil the Thrill gets his base hit
wow Lee sure likes hitting here. Schmitt adds on to lead!
three hits for Bailey! Wow.
does this matter? Baggarly sort of thinks so.

the 18 game HR streak.
be nice to see Bailey get hot at the end of the year instead of the usual fade.
True dat, Unca.
Dodgers lose again!
As do Pads.
Another W, gotta love it.
Padres lose again!
Didn’t see til today, they were shut out for 8 innings by Freeland who gave up 2 hits 10 Ks.
That Goodman kid homered and doubled, all Rox needed for 3-0 W.
Arch Manning finally hits a long td pass vs San Jose state. 83 yd. Good play; pretty good pass with o line protection. Is sis any good this year?
SJS
apparently not.
It used to really piss me off when Stanford used to lose to em.
I’m not sure I have tv access to today’s Cal game. Their 18 yr old qb was brilliant vs Oregon state last week.
Watched most of first game–they missed FG from in close that would have won it. QB threw pick in end zone earlier and D had rough time stopping running game…of Central Michigan. Can’t afford mistakes like they have had today.
At least Jose State will make some $$ for program out of it. As will HBCU Texas Southern for coming here to play Cal. It’s just part of the biz; basketball does it too in preseason.
Yeah good luck to Cal new QB in ACC.
Saw that Joseph McNeil, one of original Greensboro 4 who sat in at Woolworth’s lunch counter while attending NC A & T in 1960 has passed. graduated from there, served in Armed Forces, and 6 months after sit in Woolworths relented and changed policy. Ground breaking event at time.
brave people
A few years back, some friends were playing a festival up in Greensboro, my hotel was within walking distance to the festival and the Woolworth’s memorial, it was very cool. Also, it was a quick drive to High Point NC to see the John Coltrane statue.
Willie did you know there is a mural project here in NC of famous musicians from NC? I haven’t seen the mural for Trane yet (been to the statue), but I have seen the ones for Monk and Max Roach. All very cool.
