That is freaking hilarious. Who could have predicted this after an entire summer of smoking pole?

lol . . . I sure couldn’t. See what’s what the rest of the way. Haven’t watched hardly any of this phenomenal streak of winning games, so only know that they’ve done it with bombs, hitting with runners on base, and practically everyone contributing. Basically destroying teams. Huh? Doesn’t seem anything like their winning MO in July.

Glad the kid, Gilbert is performing (as I loved this mid-season trade and thought the Giants got over the Mets on this deal).

In smaller sample size (17 innings vs. 50) Rogers hasn’t been quite as effective for Mets as he was for Giants. Batters are hitting .300 off him as a Met vs. .212 with SF and he’s had bad BABIP luck (80 points higher as Met) too. As result OPS against is 100 points higher and he’s allowing more baserunners. also has been stuck with 2 Ls so far in 17 games vs. 3 in 53 for Giants 2025.

I hope we sign him in the offseason.

This massive turnaround from a summer of abject crapitude is fun. The HR and hits deluge from up/down the LU is not easily explicable. I think pressure being off does have something to do with it. Unfortunately, the math shows that making the WC still looks highly improbable. Hopefully, a better vibe heading into the next season won’t deter Buster from improving the roster and coaching in the offseason…

Wouldn’t hold your breath on that last sentence. Season is 140 games old and Giants are right back in it. The hitting has come around–Devers Lee and the project younger guys like Schmitt Matos and maybe Gilbert are fine. Other than 1 more OF I don’t see lot of changes-2b is tough spot to fill and everyone wants backup C that can hit. Everything else beside pitching seems set.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 6, 2025 at 4:20 pm

The OF isn’t set at all. Gilbert is finding his way, has been in a dozen of so MLB games. Matos looks better, still an enigma. Ramos IMO is a question mark because of his horrendous defense, he’ll be in Spring Training but they’re obviously trying out Matos and Gilbert to see where Ramos stacks up for next year. JHL is probably a given in CF. I can see Ramos possibly being dealt, and they pick up a veteran OF who actually knows how to use a glove and take routes to line drives. Schmitt has middling range at 2nd, they might decide they want somebody who is a real 2nd basemen by trade, and trade Schmitt to a team with a 2nd base vet and a younger one in the wings, but they need a 3rd baseman…

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 6, 2025 at 4:51 pm

nah the OF is set and all 9 that start today will be back and likely Ramos too. Posey has to fix pitching

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 6, 2025 at 5:16 pm

Ramos, JHL, Matos and the Energizer Bunny have a combined track record of success about as long as the hangnail on my pinkie finger. Buster needs to explore off season options. If they win the WSeries with those guys in 6 weeks, I’ll stand corrected…

Nice to have Ramos not in LF to tin glove something for Verlander. V normally has abysmal defense behind him. Matos is somewhat better, but not a lot. Hopefully Verlander can get through 5 under 100 pitches…

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 6, 2025 at 5:26 pm

take a look at their negative dWARs and the number of OF chances they’ve had. They both suck but Matos sucks harder. Well, maybe they’re close . Nine Ramos errors factor in, too. . Other side of the ledger, Ramos’s oWAR is good.

Speaking of Royals, Yaz is raking over there. OPS+ at 133 vs. 99 with the Giants. 7 HRs in only 95 ABs, vs. 8 HRs with the Giants before the trade. Must be the warm weather. Or, no death valley in RCfield…

Gregor Blanco won 2 rings and had 134 post season ABs with Giants in 9 different series. Career OPS with Giants .687.

Good AB by Schmitt for sac fly, then Gilbert oppo RBI double for 2-0.

Gotta admit, favorite Dylan song ever is Hiway 61. Mike Bloomfield guitar work is supposed to be part of that LP iirc

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 6, 2025 at 5:40 pm

Bloomfield transformed Dylan’s music. He and the rest of the Butterfield Blues Band (minus Paul) backed Dylan when he went electric at Newport. (The Hawks/The Band came later.) Greil Marcus wrote a good book about the Hway 61 recording session and Bloomfield’s guitar work and influence. (Admittedly he focuses on Like a Rolling Stone.) Result was the best rock album ever. It closes with a classic Dylan blues tune. Don’t say I never warned you when your train gets lost.

  14. xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 6, 2025 at 5:52 pm

I’ve got the radio going and fox on mute. Guess it’s Javvy on color commentary. He makes a good point. Even a great base stealer asks for trouble trying to take third vs Bailey with a LH batter up. Bailey’s dWAR rises with that beautiful throw.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on September 6, 2025 at 5:56 pm

Definitely a huge help for the catcher with a lefty up…

  15. djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on September 6, 2025 at 6:02 pm

I think baseball should have 2 different first base bags to make it fair. The one for righty hitters should be a couple of feet closer to the plate. Why should lefty batters have such an advantage? The first baseman must be sure to tag the correct base depending on the hitter as well…

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on September 6, 2025 at 6:04 pm

I would let him have the option of tagging either base for a lefty hitter for obvious reasons…

Agree. Chance to move within around 3 of the WC, 2-0 lead in the 9th…. At this point of the season, that’s a huge mistake to lose this game. ….. Ah, start another win streak tomorrow, they’re not going to win all of ’em. ..

      • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on September 6, 2025 at 7:57 pm

But they gotta win most of ’em… Um, Walker is not a closer. It’s kind of a weak spot on this team. Not saying I miss Doval…..

At least if they do make the post-season, gotta feel ok with Webb-Ray-Verlander in a short series. After that……..

  34. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 6, 2025 at 8:45 pm

Giants lack a reliable closer. With RRodriguez out for TJ and gone all 2026, that won’t change barring a move. So, that’s on top of the off-season “to do” list for Buster…

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on September 6, 2025 at 10:02 pm
