Lame
Irritating loss but they’re -190 tonight, a very strong favorite. Win today and tomorrow and then we just need to take 2 of 3 vs the lowliest of Rox. Still doable. And I’d love to be at the game they “clinch” 81 so this could all still get wrapped up with me in attendance.
Sounds like you need a custom T-shirt.
I’ll admit that despite my negativity, I still secretly harbored hope for a 7 game burst that would stave off elimination until the very end. A kind of maximal “if only” conclusion to get ready for next year. Instead, last night’s loss just underscored the limitations.
Yes, multiple baserunning and defensive miscues, shakiness of pen.
Yeah, work in progress and all that, but again it’s alarming how over their heads a lot of these call-ups look. I figured the D would be better. It isn’t. It has pretty much been a hot steaming mess. Baserunning is a constant disaster that was not helped by windmill Matt flailing and blowing games. I guess he got better?
The pitching fell apart. The young studs Dirty Harry, Birdie, and Whizz have all proven to be middling to gone, and not what they thought. The hitting has been the most inconsistent piece of the puzzle. I look for better years from Adames and Devers, but the rest is just a bunch of .220 guys. Gilbert looks like he may stick. That would be cool. Ramos, Matos, Schmitt, and Chappie are all not producing enough. Lee is fine. I wish they’d just lead him off and leave him alone. Put him in there all the time.
I guess my other problem is how badly Webb and Ray did down the stretch. They seriously blew the pooch late.
Props to Mets for making things interesting. They’ve fallen back to that group with Reds DBax Cards and Giants with only 3 Ws separating these 5 teams in final week of season. anything is possible at this point.
Gilbert reminds me of Panik, a fan favorite type everyone just expects to be better than he is based on his feel good presence. Panik was actually good for a year or two …
For me a little more Danny Gladden probably cause of the position they play. Panik will live forever for that sick DP he turned (don’t ask me when). Gladden signed a hot dog wrapper for me at Shea about 40 years ago.
Sure hope G-Head is still with us. I always had the feeling that something unfortunate happened to Ewisco. Why would an original Flapalooza attendee just disappear without a word?
Sent him an email and he responded back. Reason he doesn’t post is WordPress issues. He’ll try again soon.
Great news! Thanks, Blade…
I just checked GH’s Linked In profile, and he recently posted there. Ewisco’s email address in 2016 was with a provider, astound.net, whose email service ended in May of this year. The E stands for Ed, and he claimed to be at Columbia between 1976-80 according to an exchange he had with Bassbaldy in the final year he was posting, 2016. I could probably track him down, but figure this is already getting excessive :-).
Ewisco and I had lunch in Sunnyvale (my home town) in 2016, 2017 or ??? . . . Anyway, it was years ago, but afterwards, I didn’t see him post anymore. It obviously was between trips overseas and visiting my parents. Trying to remember his first name and I am drawing a blank. Likewise, no luck on old emails so far. Maybe Chi knows???
Panik DP Game 7 of 2014 World Series. Panik to Crawford to Belt. Original safe call at 1st changed to out after video review. Bumgarner then delivers vintage 5 shutout innings out of bullpen and Giants snare 3rd WS title in 5 years.
just after he got called up he got to field the last out in Lincecum’s second no hitter. Seemed apt. After all that 2B flailing in 14 they finally had someone who could stick down the stretch . But his dugout energy was subdued, modest. The diving DP earned him legendary status.
It’s good to have someone else who can play CF but he has to hit. Same with Jerar though sample size even smaller.
Email exchange between Peter and I . . .
Will do. Yes bday was Sunday. I’ve never been a Facebook guy. I’ve had issues with the bullshit WordPress site that I keep giving up trying to post. Pass on my hellos especially to my man DracuLoo!!! Been a pain in the ass season and last 10 days. Are starters have imploded. Guys we relied on in Webb and Ray have burned out and come up short. I wanted us to pursue Bieber before the trade deadline. Would have made a huge difference. We need to pursue him at all costs and keep him out of LA or SD. Sick of how they get so many free agents are big trades.

Very cool. Something I’ve noticed is that occasionally if I try to post something longer than one full sentence on the screen it gets wiped out by WP when I’m on laptop. goes through on phone.
Me too Willie. This iteration of WordPress literally took me over a week to figure out how to sign in. Quite frustrating and I understand completely why Peter gave up.
his first name was Eric (I think last name was Wisco)
That was the clue (first name) I needed Flav . . . I sent him an email (asking about him), after I did an email search on my PC. I was right – 2016, we had lunch on Murphy St., in Sunnyvale at Dish Dash I think.
Eric is what I remember, too, now that you mention it. I saw Chi refer to him as “Ed” in a comment, and went with that.
There was an Ed, Eddacker I think, he lived in England?… And what happened to DirtRocksReno….
He’s (Micah) on FB at times.
I met Ed once at a bar somewhere in the East Bay probably 10-12 years ago. I forget where , exactly. We talked Giants over a couple of beers. Big English bloke. Nice dude….
Edd was at one of the flapapaloozas
Timing is everything. Guards have gone 16-5 in September and gained 9.5 on Tigers.
Reds longest losing streak of season was Aug 25-30, 5 in a row. Then dropped 3 of 4 to start this month and were 70-71 September 5. Since then 10-5.
Snarkk, Ed was at the same game that Eric “Ewisco” was at, along with Chi, Unc and maybe a couple of others. I think we (most of us anyway) met before the game at some famous coffee/hamburger joint on the wharf. Forgot the name of the place.
Zumie was there too.
The Mets are so much fun to watch!
Our ace is responding to the moment.
Hopefully, MIA AlleyKat surfaces before the winter shutdown here. The Flap needs detectives and medical staff…
I remember that Tedspe(?) was at the flapapalooza that I did a dial a shot with y’all (not sure which one it was). That guy was funny as hell. wonder what happened to him.
John, it was the 2nd one at the Los Altos bar near Flavor’s home. Ted was funny – he was doing these impressions in various voices. Dude loved acting and when he wasn’t working, did a lot of theater acting in SF.
That’s right, I remember now that he did some acting. Some of his posts really cracked me up.
Not positive, but I think he did kind of say goodbye and stuck to it…
Giants clawing back.
Patented ground ball to Chapman starts DP that gets Webb through 5 with lead.
Cubs blew 6-2 lead and lost to Mets 9-7. Augh
8 different guys with at least 1 hit through 5, Bailey with 2 and rbi #55. 7-3
Gone. Nice shot by Ramos.
Ramos tacking on trade value?
Or making case to stay and be part of OF next year?
We have been really good lately at turning a big lead in to a small one:(
Speaking of pitching folding down the stretch? SF and METS 1 &2 in RISP since Aug 23rd…
Damn. Walker sucks.
Seriously Up 5 in 7th and were gonna lose. GRR
walker and Doval both went to shit this year.
Unbelievable.
