A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

So You’re Telling Me There’s a Chance

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 25, 2025

Ok with the playoffs toast there’s still the #questfor81. Do I think it’s gonna happen? No. But we do have my boy McDonald, Verlander and Webby lined up against one of the worst teams in the history of the NL. And all I really want is for the chance on Sunday since I’ll be at the game. Paying $160 for that seat is still having to me do a slow burn. That would take a little of the sting out of it.

If you guys aren’t watching the Tigers epic collapse you’re really missing out. Chris has fallen apart. Not like the old days but this video at least has one of his massive meltdowns somewhere in the middle of it. He needs to chill. It’s just a game……

Imagine the last two games of the 2002 WS stretched out over several weeks. I think there’d be a few basket cases among us ….

or regular season end of 1993.

All kinds of ways to build successful team. In AL top 5 scoring teams in order are Yanks BoSox Jays M’s and tigers…Guards are tied for 13th but in position to win Division. Stros also bottom 5.

Btw thanks James for link to Ned Sublette books on music and history of early Nola and Cuba. Both are fascinating reads.

Glad you’re enjoying them! The historical breadth is pretty amazing.

I hadn’t actually watched the video until now, funny that he tries to convey the depth of his agony in a similar way. He’s become more subdued and comically tragic.

The Indians are basically a 500 ball club that has parlayed one month of ridiculously good pitching into a likely playoff spot. Their September run differential: 107-54.

the Nola book is great. I’ll be reading the one on Cuba too, as well as the slavery history he co authored with his wife. I’d say both breadth and depth are amazing.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right

I missed the links for these books before, thanks for the heads up, I need to check em out.

I’ve read a really in-depth book on drums in New Orleans called Drumsville, a companion to the great exhibit at the NOLA jazz museum. It’s on LSU press and full discloser, the writer Bob Cataliotti is a friend of mine, still it’s an awesome book about drums and drumming if you’re interested.

        At least be original, zoot

sounds good, loco. May be a bit over my head musicologically but iirc it was my interest in the history of drums in Congo square that prompted James to recommend Sublette.

cousin of mine is a drummer who worked in Nola for a while. He really liked Johnny Vidacovich. Among a hundred others of course.

Yeah xoot, Johnny V is awesome. During the Covid lockdown, he did a weekly thing on Facebook/Youtube that was very entertaining.

So many great drummers out of NOLA, two of my favorite living drummers are from there, Herlin Riley and Julian Addison. Besides those two and Johnny V, the town also sports great players like Shannon Powell, Terrance Higgins, Jason Marsalis and Joey Peebles.

Rooting for Flav’s 81, the road to .500. Also rooting for a nice cold front to hit the Outer Banks.

Weather season is just about on us and all I can do is cross my fingers. Good luck on the cold front.

Anything to keep those two storms from hitting us. Even if they don’t make landfall, it’ll be a wet couple of days here for sure.

Guards hold tiebreaker over them though. Stros hammered A’s so they’re in WC mix too. Exciting stuff for final weekend.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 26, 2025 at 10:27 am

theoretically the A’s and Giants could both finish 78-84 and 15 games out. Ouch.
