A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Next Round

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 4, 2025

I still don’t get why MLB didn’t have a single game going on the one day this week they wouldn’t be competing with collage football or the NFL.

Four goodies today though. I’m gonna go Cubs, Toronto, LA and Sea win today.

Yeah LA swept and could have played.

Pavs has Giants book out “The Franchise.” First section is on 3/5, and one part focuses on Sabes/Bochy who had wine or scotch fueled post game festivities after home games long into night. At one point coaches (mandatory attendance required) began to beg off with various excuses.

Late to the dance to express my gratitude for another enjoyable season on A Place To Talk Giants Baseball. First and foremost to Craig for hosting this site and giving all of us a forum to applaud, critique and analyze Giants successes and failures on the field, in senior management and in the farm system.

Also a shout out to everyone who offers their views, opinions and expertise throughout the year. I can honestly say that I am a much more knowledgeable Giants fan on player stats and tendencies, minor league player developments and front office machinations thanks to contributions from everyone on this site. On occasion it has made me rethink my own opinions and views on Giants franchise which at my age where opinions are firmly engrained is unusual.

I really liked Buster acting immediately to dismiss Melvin and find his own guy to manage team. There were way too many fundamental flaws – lack of plate discipline, head-scratching defensive miscues, baserunning blunders – which neither Melvin nor coaches could correct. Yes Buster contributed to depleted relief pitching corps down stretch with trade deadline moves but Giants went winless vs Pirates and Mets at home just before trade deadline so I can’t argue with Buster’s moves.

Webb, Ray, Adames, Chapman, Lee and Ramos provide good foundation but roster reconstruction must continue in earnest in off-season. RF, 2B (I’m not sold on Schmitt or Koss), back-up catcher who can hit for average all question marks. Is Eldridge ready for Oracle or does he need more seasoning at Sacramento? If latter does Dom Smith return? Two new starters and a new closer not named Ryan Walker needed. Clearly a lot of work ahead.

I’m glad you got more involved here this year, Dean. You were a hidden gem for quite awhile. Wish some of the old gang would return, or at least figure out how to log in…

Devers a most valuable component of team as well. Simple oversight on my part for not listing him in prior thread.

Good summary of where Gyros are and what they need. Yep, ton of off season work to do better than .500 and 4th place in the division, and 11th best record in the NL …

Brewers welcome Counsell back to former home with 6 spot bottom first. Wow

If not for Ball Four, the 1969 Seattle Pilots might’ve been completely forgotten. Kind of amazing that an expansion team would leave town after just one season and become the Milwaukee Brewers…

I gotta admit I did forget about the Pilots.

Gausman a miss by risk averse Zaidi?

Having best season at age 34 since 2021 and 1 year still left on 5/$110 mil deal. Supposedly he loved it here/never heard from Z.

2021 was a strange year for him. Great first half, before mlb outlawed stickum or spider tack or whatever it was called. Remember how he pinched it from his cap bill before every pitch? He doesn’t do that now. And it took him time to adjust. Luckily Webb mastered his off speed stuff during the season and took over as ace. No telling what happened with Gausman and the front office.

Jays got out of that no out bases loaded jam Gausman got them into giving up only one run. Lucky. Gausman had been good through five.

oh, Doval is out for inning two. Let’s pray for the boy.

Seemed like all Ziadis deals were opt outs.

Can’t remember exact details at that time, but it seemed Z had brought in 3 or 4 pitchers, some on 1-year opt outs…. let Gausman go but kept Disco and I think one other mediocre pitcher. Not bringing back Gausman, yes, probably a miss….

    Doval in there bottom 6th.

Just what I was thinking. They could have had MLB playoff games Friday October 3rd without any competition from NFL or college football for the most part.

I consoled a few miserable Yank fans with the story of the Giants’ 2012 NLDS comeback from 2-0 vs. Dusty’s Reds inspired by some Hunter Pence antics…

Caught Stealing is a good movie. Thanks, Steve. Terrific cast, including topically enough Bad Bunny as a murderous gangster. By the end, even the Giants tie breaker loss to the Cubs at the end of the 98 season couldn’t spoil the escape.
