Hey guys….just giving you a baseball thread if you’re watching these games. I’m following it loosely. Still not giving up on the Niners despite all these injuries….

All the hope I gathered after beating the Rams was laid to waste by Warner’s injury and the TB loss.

I have no idea how this team moves forward. Jones is less hurt than Purdy. We will get Kittle back. But Pearsall and Gross-Matos are out. Not sure about Jennings as he’s beat to shit.

Atl is playing very well lately by they were shut out by Carolina! Then they beat Buffalo! The NFL and parity and all that.

Shit, the Jets could be 4-2 with just a few different plays. The niners could be 0-5 with their few different plays.

Which is what drives me bat shit about Shanahan. He plays to not make mistakes and ends up forcing the team to play perfect. When they don’t, they lose.

Any turnover is fatal. This so reminds me of Harbaugh trying to play every game down to the last possession. I prefer Walsh’s way of getting on top of a team and continuing to crush them until you have a 3 score lead midway thru the 4th quarter. And Shanahan could do this if he could just figure out how to score TDs in the red zone instead of FGs.

Krueger on KNBR just was saying that Melvin deserved to be fired because he wasn’t getting the team to “play baseball”. I agree with that. For example, he said that the Giants had just 2 stolen bases after July 1 (I think he said the first, not 31st). Is that true? That sounds impossible in theory, but in practice and what we saw, it is entirely plausible. The team WAS slow as “molasses” as Krueger just said. I loved his ripping of the Giants, everything he said was true, and of course, agrees with my opinions, including ripping ownership for having a rich team, but not doing nearly enough to keep up with the Doghairs. Krueger says it’s understandable LA has more $ to spend that the Giants, but LA also spends more on payroll and players as a percentage of revenue than the Giants. That’s inexcusable….

In the immortal words of Re-Un-Now-Dead Al Davis, “just break even, baby!!”

Maybe the “Facebook Housewives” and wine tipping Giants fans should listen to Krueger too. Nothing changes around here, except – similar to a blind squirrel occasionally finding a nut, that’s how the Giants seem to become relevant, e.g., hiring Sabean, Rosen, Craig, Bochy, Magowan’s ownership group and good drafts. Never, ever was it because of fans getting pissed off and saying enough, is enough . . . Conversely, that’s why the Dodgers win today, i.e., their fans got PISSED OFF with McCourt (look it up – he was the primary reason) and he sold the team to the “Guggenheim Group.” That’s when ownership spent money to improve the team.

Giants are just as rich as this Guggenheim ownership group, but they have been missing in action for the most part of this decade, albeit, yes, they spent some money last season. If the freakin’ fans would get involved, they would spend a lot more.

4 years straight of .500 ball. That would be heaven in Pittsburgh, I suppose. In SF, it shouldn’t be, but maybe it is becoming that, since almost 3 million butts in seats don’t seem to mind it…

bbref says the giants had 23 stolen bases in the second half of the season. Of course, Krueger is a brain dead hack, so maybe he said that.

4 in July, 14 August, 6 September. Guess one in July was in the first half of the season. Totals are low, obviously. And as I’m sure we all recall July was the unrelentingly dismal month — 9-15.

Snarkk, Giants aren’t alone. Rockies ownership could give 2 shits about the fans. Why? They never complain and/or visiting team fans make up the difference in attendance. I have personally gone to games where Cubs fans outnumbered Rockies fans. Same deal with the Yankees. I don’t have exact total attendance for the entire 2025 season, but through the first 75 home games, the Rockies had an average of 29,872 fans per game at Coors Field. That is unbelievable when you consider how bad that team was.

It’s only a slight decrease from the previous year’s average of 31,361 (where they sucked balls too).

You’ve been to Denver, right? When I lived in Basalt, this was pre-baseball in the 80s, and the sports section all summer was about the Broncos, and where John Elway went on his latest vacation, where he eats dinner, etc. 24/7 Elway.

Everything fun is 100 miles away. It’s like Sacramento. There’s nothing to do there but hundreds of things to do an hour away.

Yes, they are very passionate about football. Less so about basketball and hockey, but nevertheless far more passionate by a magnitude of 10X compared to baseball. Doesn’t matter though – as I alluded to above, they still get a lot of fans to attend the games.

Disagree though about Denver. Weather – in winter and summer – is much more enjoyable versus Sacramento (usually, the sun is out, immediately following a snow storm). Of course, 90% of residents are into the outdoors, so your point about Denver is valid. Frankly, when I sold my mountain home on the front range, I thought I would be bored living in Denver, but it was actually a great experience. Everything was within walking distance, e.g., restaurants, movie theater, grocery stores, etc. I rarely had to use my car.

Strange thing is, whenever I went to Denver from the Basalt/Carbondale/Aspen area, Denver was under smog alerts. The 80s were pretty bad there. Or it was just bad timing.

And me and a couple friends almost went to the infamous Niners Broncos game where Ray Wershing was nearly pegged by a snowball as he was trying to kick the game-winning FG. He missed and the Niners lost 16-14.

It woulda been a 6 hour drive out to Glenwood Springs and back to Denver as independence pass is closed in the winter. Crazy to go over that pass in the summer and see 6′ of snow. Then again it’s over 12,000 ft. I do still dream about living there. Red Mountain and the Maroon Bells were great camping/hiking.

And the spring thunderstorms every day at 3:00 were epic.

lol . . . Yep. Afternoon thunder showers came like clockwork. Amazingly, they rarely resulted in a baseball game being canceled at Coors.

Nice to see Jays make things interesting. Some team is going to have to get bats going to beat Dogs pitching, which hasn’t happened yet.

Minnesota bred Frosty View wins 9th at Keeneland for my man Abel Cedillo in his only mount of day.

Hope Stix is OK up there and survives another off season.

I still hate the Dodgers but can we admit we are watching greatness? Old timers when I was young talk in awe of seeing Ted Williams or Joe DiMaggio play. See Gibson pitch. We are watching greatness. A game for the ages from Ohtani. I tip my hat to him!
