Wow X 2
I’m not going to go so far as to say Ohtani had the greatest game of all time. It might have been. But those 2 games back to back, with the oppo grand salami to save Seattle AND THEN Ohtani doing what he did, those have to be the 2 most exciting back to back games in post season history.
And if I was being honest, yes, that is the best game any major leaguer has ever played considering the stakes of the game and what he did.
Back-to-back-to-back-to-back gems thrown by Dodgers core four starters is all Buster needs to focus on. BEFORE filling holes in RF, 2B, back-up catcher whose hitting prowess matches Bailey’s defensive wizardry as well as solving 1B mystery (Devers, Eldridge, possible return of Dom Smith?) and restocking bullpen, Buster must acquire two stalwart starting pitchers and make right hire of manager.
Strong defense starts with a solid and deep rotation. It’s imperative for Buster to make impactful free agent signings and/or trade acquisitions in early November. And find next Stephen Vogt who can relate to players but also impose discipline which Melvin failed to do. In my view these are two most important actions Buster must take. The first two to three weeks after World Series ends will be telling.
Yes, the Dogs are very good, and this guy Ohtani I keep hearing about is of Ruthian status. Mac said last thread Mariners and Jays are likely playing for participation prize in the WS. As much as I’ve hated LA for some 60 years, I do appreciate good baseball. Just wish I could kinda root for it in this case…. But still. Brewers, seriously, best record in the NL, blah blah blah and can’t win even 1 game? Sucks to be them. Hmm, reminds me of another midwest team 13 years ago in the WS……
Suarez getting bomb to tie game and then win it was something. DBax let him go at deadline and he slumped at times for M’s but came up big when needed.

Drew Gilbert’s college coach? Dugout celebrations will deserve their own dedicated game cam. Post-game, he often joins his players’ pile ons.
Baggs on it in TA. I hope Giants OF is good enough that Gilbert is in Sac myself, working on improving the .190/.248/.350 slash line.
Thanks Xoot . . . I’m down with this guy 100% after reading this:

Buster again thinking outside the proverbial box unlike the rest of his brethren.
If you can’t access the article – let me know and I will remove the paywall.
he would’nt’ve responded passively to the Giants’ mid season nose dive, that’s for sure.
Agree.
Pretty large difference in what he can control as D1 college coach (top of mountain) vs. ML manager these days beholden to FO and ownership. If this is who Posey hires hopefully there’s a strong bench coach who has been around ML players front offices and other ML teams. Seems like a reach.
whoever the next manager is, Giants need to get him some more players.
I think I will trust Posey’s bold, forward thinking versus the typical “hire an MLB retread manager” philosophy that has permeated MLB for over a 100 years. Meanwhile, the NFL and NBA have zero problem hiring a coach from the college ranks. Melvin was a failure by all accounts, particularly with us at the Flap.
One other thing, if Vitello is hired and it does not work out, I will still give Posey a lot of credit for not embracing the “vanilla” choices most GMs make.
Don’t know if this will work because of the paywall.
