A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Don’t Feel Bad About the Offense…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 2, 2010

we could be as bad as the d-backs and the Dodgers are right now. Yesterday they go scoreless thru 9 innings with Kemp hitting a walk off in the 10th. Today, they are scoreless through 13! Christ, if that happened to the Giants the entire blog would be swimming with the fishes off the GG Bridge…..

i played around with the # of comments per page. I capped it at 50 to see what would happen. If the most recent posts appear first and it doesn’t do that stutter thing I think we should keep it that way. The Splash only allows for 20 posts per page….

brutal. D-backs play 24 innings and lose both games 1-0. Again, if that had happened to us the universe would explode. Ours anyway…..

    A little different for tonight:

    RF Torres
    2B Sanchez
    3B Sandoval
    SS Uribe
    C Molina
    LF Huff
    1B Posey
    CF Rowand
    P Cain

  4. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 2, 2010 at 4:47 pm

i like that line up better. Get Molina and Rowand the fuck away from each other. Benjie his a few balls hard yesterday, Bochy probably sees a light at the end of the tunnel. We’ll see. The way Boch works is that he sticks with his guys forever then when they get a hit he *wins*. He doesn’t ever seem to concerned with the 0 for 20 or whatever they put up before the hit……

After looking it over for a second, I like it. String of righties on top. The Bengie/Rowand back-to-back has been eliminated. Some might not like Bengie hitting 5th, but he’s gotta bat somewhere. Others might not appreciate Buster moving down a spot. Look on the bright side. He should get a lot of good pitches to hit with Rowand protecting him. 🙂

If Will Clark is any indication/benchmark, the 7 hole is good for a guy like Posey. Wealth of talent just getting his first real major league exposure

What’s astounding to me is how much you don’t get it, Flavor. Let me ask you this:
    1. When do you bench a guy who is in in a slump?
    2. How long does he sit?
    3. What if the replacement gets hot?
There are actually about a dozen more factors but if you are honest you can’t answer even these three because there is not one answer. The answer to all three is: “depends”…

  8. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:05 pm

the ONLY reason I don’t give Bochy constant shit about playing Rowand every day is because we don’t have another player who would do any better, over the long haul. And Rowand’s defense and leadership are valuable. Molina batting 5th? Hey, one of these days Molina is going to hit a HR again, maybe get 2 hits or something and you’ll show up here screeching about what idiots we are and what a genius Bochy is; again, ignoring his previous month of bullshit at bats. That’s the beauty of supporting Bochy’s “play ’em outta their slumps” plan. at some point, you get to be right for a day……

  9. Michael's avatar Michael said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:07 pm

    Answer the questions.

  10. Michael's avatar Michael said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Flavor can’t answer the questions for the reason I gave. Gotta love “the ONLY reason I don’t give Bochy constant shit about playing Rowand every day is because we don’t have another player who would do any better..” the “Only” reason? That’s all you need. That’s why he plays. Duh..
As to Bengie, until this weekend it was Molina or Eli? Well, hmmmmmmmm. Molina or Whitseide? Hmmmmmmmm…
    DuHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…
OK, we’ve settled THAT pretty easily. Next…

  11. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:18 pm

my issue is where Molina hits in the line up dipshit. I don’t think he’s a #5. But I’m sure he’s just about to break out of it with a base hit or something so all will be right in your world soon. And those questions were simple to answer, you answered it yourself with the word “depends”. Of course that word never enters Bochy’s mindset since he runs their dumb ass slumping asses out there every fucking day until finally a hit comes and he’s vindicated……..

  12. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:25 pm

And with Rowand I’m not against him sitting for another player I just don’t think that, over the long haul, they’re bring much else than Rowand is bringing this year, at least offensively. Sure, sit his ass a little more if that makes everyone feel better. But at the end of the season all we’d have with a Rowand replacement would be a guy with similar stats who we hate less just because he makes less money……..

  13. Michael's avatar Michael said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:25 pm

You’re the guy who wanted them broken up. Where the fuck do you want him? 6 and 8 is hardly that different from 7/8. Seems to make total fucking sense, that’s about as far apart as they can get without putting one in “ou know where”..

  14. Michael's avatar Michael said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:28 pm

It’s unbelievable how you can read your own post and not see that you are fucking validating what Bochy is doing…

  15. Michael's avatar Michael said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:30 pm

And even though he only has 3 hits in 16 AB against Francis, 2 are HR, so that would be another goood reason to bat Molina 5 tonight.

  16. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:35 pm

if they are both playing you’re right, there are only so many options unless you bat them next to each other. It’s either 7/8 or 6/8. And 5/8, unless he wants to bat Rowand in front of Molina and then he could go 5/7 and who wants Rowand batting 5th? If Posey finds a solidified slot in the order that opens up a little bit. How about
    Torres
    Franchez
    Posey
    Sandoval
    Huff
    Molina
    Uribe
    Rowand
    P
Still ugly, I know. At some point Boch is going to have to get away from his “play ’em out of their slump” shit. They can’t both be in the line up together for the rest of the year or we’re doomed…….

  17. Michael's avatar Michael said, on June 2, 2010 at 5:44 pm

I’m not going to argue the LU bullshit anymore. Just as you claim that I announce some big fucking victory if a guy breaks out of his slump, you pull the bullshit like you did with Torres: snarky fucking updates on whether he got a ball out of the infield… Baggarly’s last point was his best: just enjoy the fucking baseball… that is my advice to all. Yeah enjoy the journey. You can get screwed if you get lost in the details too much. As for second guessing the manager, that’s as old as baseball. But it’s too easy to do. The manager needs some understanding too. He has to make too many decisions and all of them cannot come out right.

Twin, thank you for the recipe . . . I had already started the crock pot, so the . . . umm, brisket (cow) was already committed so to speak. I ended up using a recipe from the internet (as I noted earlier . . . run of the mill) which indicated the requisite potatoes (Props to Stix), carrots, onions, garlic, peppercorn, and as you alluded to Twin – that little packet that came with the brisket (sans the plastic container). Anywho, it came out fine, but I will go to the source next time (Chef Twin).

  40. Michael's avatar Michael said, on June 2, 2010 at 7:04 pm

It was an AWFUL call but you do not suspend people for honest errors… but they can right the wrong, as Stan suggests on the Splash. Call an emergency meeting with the Umpire’s union, MLB, and the player’s union-then overturn the call and give him the perfecto. Then institute replay as Henry suggests, except each manager gets the one challenge and, as in football, the booth replays anything close in the ninth and extra innings…everything except balls and strikes is challengeable..

  42. pickledgringo's avatar pickledgringo said, on June 2, 2010 at 7:13 pm

I think there is a difference between an honestly bad call and that thing. It’s past that – it’s either aloofness or incompetence, it wasn’t even close to being close. Seriously should be fired tomorrow and per TF’s suggestion, the call be overturned somehow (though the ‘joy’ is now way gone).

  43. Michael's avatar Michael said, on June 2, 2010 at 7:19 pm

Umpires make horrible calls all the time. Sorry, but unless dishonesty could be shown, it’s just a ridiculous precedent to suspend or fire an ump for blowing a call.

I understand people make mistakes, especially refs/umps. But…you have to take it in the context of how and when it happened. 2 outs in the 9th inning of a potential perfect game – there is no rational explanation beyond the two I mentioned, both of which should be considered ‘dire’ offenses when you take into account the fact that call couldn’t even be close to being considered a mistake.

From what I remember about PTBNL trades, there is a group of about 10 guys whose talent varies slightly but is generally around the same skill level. The list has already been determined, so I think it is more a matter of the Giants picking the right guy.

  57. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 2, 2010 at 7:40 pm

mostly, I was kidding. I don’t give a shit who we get from that lame list. I made it clear multiple times that i thought it was a bad idea to trade Lewis for nothing. And Frandsen, who I hate and who will fold soon, is a guy who actually has a small opportunity right now with Wood smoking pole. Make the most of your at bats and see what happens—The Bowker Gang should take note of that advice…….

  58. Michael's avatar Michael said, on June 2, 2010 at 7:41 pm

PG, you can’t make a fucking “rule” or whatever that says you can suspend the ump if it’s “important”… and how the hell would a suspension stick? If the ump’s union let that through, they miight as well disband the union. No fucking way-the answer is to fix it, not look for a scapegoat..

  60. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 2, 2010 at 7:53 pm

I’m happy for one of them, Lewis, simply because he was a sweet waiver wire pick up who’s helping my fantasy teams. I’d like to be genuinely happy for those guys, just cause things are going well for them, but I just can’t be. I care about this team and the players who play on the team. If I’m sentimental about a player leaving it’s because of what they did for my team, not just having played on it……

  61. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on June 2, 2010 at 7:56 pm

  62. xoot's avatar xootsuit said, on June 2, 2010 at 8:00 pm

If Hawpe had been playing a regular RF we would’ve had a chance to see the pear shaped boy try for a triple. Nice hit, still. (And we could use a few more. Next inning, I guess.)

Jim Joyce has some cojones. He may have made a bad call, one under scrutiny by thousands of biased people and dozens of digitial video cameras, but he made it. That’s his job. He did it under, as they say, very difficult circumstances. Sure he could’ve given the pitcher the out even if he didn’t see it that way and everyone would love him. Fuck everyone. He did his job.

uh oh. Cain’s not exactly lights out tonight. Better get some runs, boys.

Say hello to instant replay after this doofus umpire unfortunately…reminds me of Randy Johnson’s 300th win when the umpire made that questionable ball 3 call with Wilson pitching against Dunn when it clearly was strike 3. At least last year the ump made up for it by calling ball 4 strike 3 instead!
