Batten Down the Hatches, Hurricane “Welly” is closing in!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 9, 2010

my post from a couple of days ago…..

bigflavor said, on June 7, 2010 at 1:47 pm (Edit)

My gut is they go with Welly one more time. Martinez is the back up plan if they feel like they just can’t tolerate another shit outing from The Todd. I will be shocked if Bum is even on the board in terms of what they might do……

No Benjie or Rowand tonight. Sure seems like Bochy has turned a corner on those guys. Kruk said something interesting on his show this morning. “This team is starting to develop a swagger. You don’t ever develop a swagger until you start hitting. Pitching is great but it’s hitting that gives a team a swagger. I’m finally seeing that in this team, something I haven’t seen since Bonds was around”

I guess Bochy is seeing it too……

If you’re bragging because you “called it”, so did everybody else. What was posted is what they SHOULD do. Trying to act like a genius because you’re as dumb as they’re being..well, good for you. As you said once: nothing more pathetic than a Sabean apologist…

I sure the hell hope this isn’t something you’re gloating about being right. I’m pissed!

Yeah, let Todd pitch one more road game, if it is a crap outing put him in the pen. Looks like they are going to ride the Burrell horse till it can’t be ridden no more! I wonder if Rowand is learning anything from this. Is he just a team player or is he stewing on the bench.

Too bad, especially in the Cinn ballpark. Well should be gone.

  5. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:09 pm

Everything points to Wellemeyer starting tomorrow as almost a gimme loss to the Reds. The players must feel something like that going in. Even dipstick FP Santangeloid says he should be gone. I can’t believe that administrative player movements are tying their hands so much that this is the best they can do, essentially hoping that Bonehead can pull him before the damage is too great. Dirrty better go deep tonite, the Pen will likely be needed big time tomorrow…

Shit, our #5 starter is 3-5, and has some good starts under his belt.

He’s good for ONE decent road start . . .

As I read the blog NO ONE thought they would start welly. And if y can read I said “my gut”. I didn’t wish for this I was merely speculating what the team would do—a “Wswinbe4igo” moment. Personally, I think the best move was iron head to start and then bum gets the next hm start

Snarkk, the pen got no work yesterday. They are underused, if anything.

On the other thread there’s a debate on how much playing time Renteria should get. The problem with him is that unless you take Uribe out of the lineup (a mistake I(MO), you weaken four or five positions defensively. Renteria doesn’t have as much range as Uribe. Uribe isn’t nearly as good a 2b or 3b as Sanchez and Sandoval. Posey and Sandoval aren’t as good at first as Huff, and Huff isn’t as good an OF as Torres/Rowand/Schierholtz.

  12. Unca Chuck's avatar Unca Chuck said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:31 pm

Yeahbaby!!! Posey flexes the power. .

  16. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:33 pm

That wasn’t no 12-hop grounder between third and short that found a hole, that was a blast.

  18. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:35 pm

Uribe leads the team in dingers and RBI. Sanity suggests you can’t take time away from him with Rent coming back who has no pop. Unless you move Pablo to 1b, Uribe to 3rd, and Posey to regular C, then spin the OFers wheel around Torres…

    • swickman's avatar swickman said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:46 pm

That’s along the lines of what I’ve been thinking, snarkk. Let’s hope Bochy’s got his thinking cap on when Renteria comes back.

  21. swickman's avatar swickman said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:41 pm

How kickass is this? Since the return of Sanchez and the Posey callup, this team is starting to really heat up. Getting some production out of Burrell while the Rays pay his salary is just icing on the cake.

Now if we could only get to .500 on the season vs. the West….

    Baby steps, I know.

  23. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:43 pm

How can we lose tonight when the Reds start a guy named Dorky Miller?

  24. pickledgringo's avatar pickledgringo said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:46 pm

I don’t think Bengie is DH material at this point in his career, but he does seem to maintain credibility behind the plate with the pitchers. Trade partner? I would suppose any team needing a catcher to mentor a young staff or a team looking for an experienced backstop? I really don’t think his bat is going to bring much value.

  25. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Would more likely be an AL team that needs help at DL or an extra RH bat for PH with sporadic pop. He’d be a good backup catcher as well. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the AL, so which teams fit the bill I dunno. Giants might not be able to unload him without eating some of his salary…

  26. Craig's avatar Craig said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:48 pm

  28. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:50 pm

  29. Craig's avatar Craig said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Ivan is back playing. No clue who would want or need Molina. Maybe Tampa bay?

  30. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:55 pm

I think it was Flavoro who posted that Posey had no power… I posted that he hits a lot of ground balls. I’m still right…
Rent is a far better defensive SS than Uribe. Juan will spell all 3 positions.

  31. Cal_Stim25's avatar Cal_Stim25 said, on June 9, 2010 at 4:55 pm

I don’t think Bengie goes anywhere as a starter. If anything, maybe a back-up C/DH to an AL club. But in all honesty, what is the expected return for Bengie? Is it worth what he means to our staff?

I’m not so sure it would be worth it to trade him.

  32. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on June 9, 2010 at 5:00 pm

  33. Craig's avatar Craig said, on June 9, 2010 at 5:01 pm

I didn’t think he had no power, idiot, just that he hadn’t shown any. He wasn’t even hitting anything to the warning track. I was fucking agreeing with you, basically

  34. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2010 at 5:04 pm

Package Bengie and a good prospect for a decent OFer with speed. Like Oracle says, we don’t need 4 actual/potential catchers on the roster. So something’s gotta give, and if they give Posey enough starts before the trade deadline, the staff will get over their goodby Bengie tears quick enough…

  42. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2010 at 5:14 pm

This is the kind of crap that frosts me about the Giants. Sanchy just threw a zillion pitches and needs a blow, so the first two Giants hitters take about 5 seconds each to get themselves out. At least Burrell worked the count for a walk, I’m liking this guy more and more…

  50. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 9, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Well, BF, Burrell is a bad fielder, but already has more walks as a Giant than Rohand has had in about 3 weeks. Rohand is a better fielder, but takes ABs like he’s hell bent to drive his BA and OBP to intersect at .200. Pick your poison…

  51. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on June 9, 2010 at 5:32 pm

In places liek Cincy which ar ehitters parks, makes sense to stuff the lineup with our potential biggest bats (no pun intended). I think when we are back home and other pitching parks, Huff will be primarily in left and Torres in right unless Posey is catching.

But we are also going to see Pablo at first a bit to get Uribe games at third…

Burrell seems motivated to climb out of the minor-league contract ditch he found himself in. Gotta like that. Also, the seems to go to his left and back fairly well. I saw him botch a couple of drives down the LF line in a game a few years ago (I was close enough to see the confusion in his eyes). Also, that was a good fundamental play, backing up Torres. He’ll never provide great D, but he’s a helluva lot better than I feared he would be. Good move to get him.

Now, that dive by Torres? I think he could’ve taken a more direct route, but that would’ve risked blocking the ball with his face (or chest or forearms, etc.). Not a great try.
