How to Beat Toronto…..
It’s actually quite simple, just keep the ball in the yard. These guys are free swinging, HR happy monsters. If they don’t hit a bomb? No big deal, head back to the dugout with their .241 average and wait for another chance. It’s safe to say there isn’t much chocking up on the bat or two-strike approach in Toronto. We have smart pitchers, I think our guys will keep them off balance enough to play them tough this weekend (no prediction)….
First game is going to be fun to watch. I’ve followed Brandon Morrow’s career since he was at Cal. Dude has wicked stuff but has arm slot problems. He can be no hitting you for 5 innings and then boom walk the bases loaded. And Zito’s fly ball tendencies probably won’t be tailor made for this park 🙂
Plus we get to see Freddy again. Right now he’s sitting awake in bed wondering if it’s possible to hit a 16 run home run……
I get to see Strasburg tonight!!
very cool. Take some pics.
will do Flav…great idea…
AK, nice. Couple more Krukisms:
Electric stuff: used to describe every pitcher from last 3 years, including Palmer and that stupid little LHP reliever from Miami who is thankfully far gone.
Location mistake: as in just got away with, or worse, didn’t.
Toronto might be a better hitting and scoring team over all than the Reds are…but they might not be as good as we are right now. Zito Cain and Sanchez, heart of the order and Bochy doesn’t have to worry about double switching anyone. And I’m sure we do better than last time we played AL on the road.
Speaking of which, Geren with a major fuck up yesterday, not double switching Bailey when he brought him in to pitch middle 8th. He bats first in 9th, PHs for him, and starts Blevins in bottom of 9th, who loses the game. You take out your ace closer after he gets 2 outs on the road in a tie game? Neanderthal.
Dodgers at Fenway, Manny DHing. Should be interesting….Red Sox with a .588 pct are 3rd in their own division, which of course would not be good enough for playoffs if held today. How fucking much money have they spent? How’d you like to be in Toronto, and have to beat out 2 of 3 Boston Yankees Rays, just to get in, and compete with all the fucking $$$ they spend?
Cool deal, GH. We’ll be expecting some picts, and a gamer.
I like the Gigantes chances of 2 of 3. And I think you’re right Flav, keep ’em in the yard, and our chances go up big-time.
Just got back to the office…went to a local pub and watche the US – Slovenia match. The US got fucking robbed…still not sure what the call was on the third goal that was disallowed. Per the replay it must have been offsides. Fuck.
Slovenia was always going to be a tough match. the have speed the US doesn’t. It was going to be a must win if the US had lost to England.
The U.S. didn’t even receive the common courtesy of a reach around on that play.
We got fucked hard! Got to root for the limeys to beat Algeria coming up next. Goddamn world conspiracy against the U.S. I tell ya. Fuck the whole lot of ’em.
Are they gonna nationally televise every goddamn Strasburg start? Nothing against the kid personally, but I hope the ChiSox light up the bastard tonight. Knock him down a peg or two. Too much too soon being thrown his way. It’s not like he’s the second coming or anything. We all know that Jesus wears the orange and black and plays for our beloved Giants.
Dont screw my night Dennis!!!
Nice that we have 2 lefties goin in this series. The Merc points out that the Jays are 5-9 against southpaws.
This is what I’ve seen on the called-back goal. It was so damned loud in the pub, you couldn’t tell what the call was. “Second-half sub Maurice Edu appeared to put the U.S. ahead in the 86th, poking in close-range shot after Jozy Altidore headed Donovan’s free kick to him. But the goal was disallowed by referee Koman Couilibaly of Mali, apparently for a foul before Edu got the ball.” Apparently a foul? WTF? Absolute bullshit.
I don’t know Dennis, I am hoping that Algeria/England play to a 0-0 or 1-1 draw. That will put us and England with 2 point each. What’s the tie-break? Goals? A subsequent win by us against Algeria should put us through.
I’m with ya Denny…give Strassy a little humility…would love to see the Sox rock his ass.
My wife used to ref soccer games, this was her response: “Robbed is an understatement. The referee was a fucking disgrace. There were a lot of awful calls.”
Okay – last one on soccer. Here are the tie-breakers in World Cup Group play:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.
If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.
All the more reason to hope that England and Algeria draw at 0-0, or 1-1.
I’m ready for some BBQ’d BlueJay and a cold one.
What, the number of flops by each team isn’t in the tie-breaker scenarios. Fuck Soccer.
That was one hell of a NBA final last night!! Refs let them play for the most part. Fucking Ray Allen, went stone cold after he got the 3 point record
Fuck the Lakers!!!!!! And anything LA!!!!!!
Fuck the NBA…AND fuck the Lakers. They are right behind the LABumbinos on my list.
Okay…I don’t mind some basketball…so my Fuck the NBA was outta line, but still, Fuck the Lakers.
I just liked the game, close all the way around
I’ll still watch a W’s game for some bizarre reason, but otherwise, the NBA leaves me cold. I watched 1 playoff game in it’s entirety and that was last night’s. Only the magnitude of what was at stake saved this one. Gruesome. Watching Gashol (arguably the ugliest player not named Joaquin Noah) control the boards down the stretch was laughable. Celtic fans must have been retching.
I’ll cede the NBA finals are the NBA finals. That’s fine. Room B was reserved for that but…okay.
But I draw the line at fucking soccer!!!
So, as cliched movie lines were being bantered about in the previous day’s thread, I will follow suit, quote Cher, and ask you gentlemen to please:
SNAP OUT OF IT!!!
Damn…I didn’t even see that Room B was NBA basketball. Like Max, last night was my first finals game. Speaking of the Ws…they got new uniforms. Going old school.
Forgot the url:
http://tinyurl.com/2cmv8av
The Ws need a tad more than just new uniforms to regain prominence. New owner and a big man. New coach and a big man. New mascot and a big man. Better looking Warrior Girls and a big man. Throw in one more big man and they just might be there.
Back to baseball if you please. It was noted that the BJs haven’t done particularly well against LH starters. Personally i think SFs best shot in Toronto is with our currently dominant righty: Matt the Horse. Zito will have to use all his wiles tonight to keep those boppers in the yard. Can the Giants boppers and bippers create some stir vs Morrow?
Early games in Ontario, particularly with the start-times of the two on the weekend. Plenty of time to analyze and dissect after the fact. BTW: Shouldn’t all non-baseball “sports” be relegated to Room B., except for brief mentions and citations?
The BJs? That’s just so wrong
Jays avg. 2.3 homers and 6.1 runs L18 at home. I’ll go out on a limb and say K&K mention Zito should try and keep the ball down at some point this evening.
Better looking Warrior Girls
—————-
Okay, they’re not *all* all that. But there’s enough hotties and 2 of them I’d sell my mother to the Arabs for
Yeah, don’t be fooled by Morrow’s overall numbers. I was just reading that after making some adjustments in his mechanics, he is 1-1 in his last four, posting a 2.16 ERA and .185 BAA. His last outing against the Rox he gave up one earned in six for a loss.
My guess is that not a one of you would toss any one of them (W girls) out of the rack for eating crackers.
I like the match-up on Saturday. Cainer against Litsch.
Litsch has one appearance/start this year. Here’s his line (if this doesn’t make a hitter’s mouth drool…nothing will):
1 game, 1 start, 2.1 IP, 0-1, 27.00 ERA / 4.29 WHIP, 9 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 Ks
Good lord, Chi. My 9 year old Goddaughter would have better numbers than that
One good sign for the Giants is that 2 Toronto hitters are struggling at the plate.Jose Bautista ranks among the ML leaders in HR’s with 18,but currently he’s in a 2-36 (0.56) with 13 K’s and no RBI’s in his last 10 games.Adam Lind is hitting .130 (6-46) without a HR in June. That would be huge in this series if they continue to struggle.
Jays really struggling vs lefties this year.
Lefty Starters 2.7 0.198 0.270
Runs/AVG/OBP
Hmmmm….
Jays struggling against Lefty starters. Gigantes have 2 Lefties lined-up for the series.
Two of their best hitters are in a big funk.
Like I said…I like our chances at 2 of 3, especially if Bautista and Lind continue to struggle.
Go Giants!
You have to be really careful if you start counting on wins because the other pitcher sucks or is a “career mediocrity”. I think BF posted something awhile back showing how one of the Pads young guys got raked after handling us easily his previous start…. as if that was proof we couldn’t hit. Ridiculous,of course, just as it’s ridiculous the other way. The point of this isn’t to criticize BF, it’s a common misperception. But the fact is that any guy who ever put on cleats and thrown a ball in the bigs CAN go out and throw a good ballgame. Misch, Sadowski… you get it. And there IS such a thing as “ownage”. I previously posted about one of the most famous and amazing cases: Larry Jaster and the Dodgers. In 1966 Larry was 11-5. 5 of the wins were against the Dodgers. All 5 were complete game shutouts…
Anyway, sure they should handle Litsch- but they may not. And it won’t mean they suck or they’ve “reverted to form” if they don’t…
“Reverted to form”
Grooooan
Interesting stat in the paper today. Wilson has an 86% success rate in saves compared to Nen (85%) and Beck (84%). I have no idea of the significance. Just an interesting stat
Yeah, I parsed the career save percentages before. The difference between Wilson and Nathan or Rivera (before this year) is two saves per year ( based on 50 save opportunities).
Remember when the Bluejays had Garth and Dane Iorg? Before the may it big in” Wayne’s World”.
I get it Twin (counting wins based on recent results, etc.). We all have seen many games that should have went one way (based on stats, recent results, etc.), and the ball bounced a different way. Based on what I have seen of the match-ups, I do like the Giants chances, but then again, there is a reason they play the games.
Wayne’s World reference is good, AK…too funny.
So the Giants should swing hard tonight. Then stay hard and schwing.
all I have to say about the sordid world of soccer is that at least the Algerians have the English at a tie…that call today disallowing the winning goal is why the game f’n sucks! Ridiculous..
England – Algeria, Final 0-0.
I can’t find why they took the goal away from the USA. anybody know?
I just noticed the “Possibly related posts (automatically generated)” near the top of this thread:
– Christianity
– Seven Gardening By the Yard Tips
WTF. I can possibly see the Christianity one because Jesus is on our team, but Gardening??!!
The Yard Tips is a band, Chi. An offshoot of the Yardbirds. Seven Gardening is their new album
Ah, thanks Ted. And again, the Christianity thing must be because Jesus wears the Orange and Black.
Kevin – I have seen nothing other than what I posted earlier re: the disallowed goal.
Torres RF
Sanchez 2B
Huff LF
Uribe SS
Burrell DH
Sandoval 3B
Posey 1B
Molina C
Rowand CF
And the clock starts on how long before someone bitches about Rowand batting after Molina
Since we get to use the DH, doesn’t it make sense to give Rent the start at either DH or short and let Uribe have the other spot?
Stop the clock.
I’d imagine Rent starting at SS tomorrow (day/night) w/ Uribe at DH. Burrell in LF.
10 minutes. 3 shy of the record
I did that for you Dennis. Good point with the day/night thing. I just thought it would have been a good idea for Uribe to do the DH thing today, since he hasn’t had much rest lately and he’d essentially get a second consecutive day off. That and today’s article in the Merc explains how Burrell doesn’t like to DH.
WTF is Rowand doing hitting AFTER Molina??!!
Couldn’t resist, Ted.
I would have been disappointed if you hadn’t, Chi, thanks
I’m somewhat surprised that it isn’t Uribe at DH, Rent at SS but I think it’s a statement, Bochy is good at that stuff. Even if it’s just this first day, he’s telling Uribe that he’s the MAN. If he’s healthy and hits, Rent is going to play SS most games, just not tonight. Good move…
Twin – wasn’t there a quote in a recent story where Bochy basically said that Uribe would remain the starting SS, even after Rent returns?
The Giants on Wednesday activated shortstop Edgar Renteria (right hamstring strain) from the disabled list to play in what sounds like a reserve role.
“I think he helps strengthen our depth,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “We can give some guys a break if they need it.”
Renteria is hitting .326, but the Giants can’t afford to sit Juan Uribe, who leads the team in RBIs (42), is tied for the lead in homers (11) and has filled Renteria’s defensive role admirably. Uribe gives the Giants some flexibility because he can play three infield spots, but it’s tough to see Freddy Sanchez or Pablo Sandoval getting too many days off, either.
With the upcoming series in Toronto, the Giants will be able to use a designated hitter, so Bochy wasn’t quite ready to say Renteria would be used primarily off the bench.
“I’ll get with Edgar and have a long talk with him,” Bochy said. “We’ll kind of see how the games are going. Edgar is a guy who is going to be in the mix.”
Chi, Everything I’ve read says ochy said Uribe would remain in the lineup. I don’t remember anything specifically saying SS. It had me hoping that Uribe would play third, Pablo 1st and Posey catcher.
I know what’s been said and I still think that if he hits, Rent will be the SS most days. But I totally support Bochy not saying so yet. I’ve already talked about my opinion on that. I guess we’ll see in the next few days.
3Bagger is correct, the best LU would have Buster catching, Panda at first, Uribe at third, Rent at SS. Sanchez 2B. Burrell/Torres/Huff OF.
I agree that Rent plays short, but only when either Uribe or Sanchez need a blow, or preferably when Molina sits and Posey catches.
You were too fast for me twin.
Seems to me you get rent some at bats now, see how healthy he (and his bat) look, then deal with the glut of players once you don’t have the dh to fill out the lu. But whatever, all in all, it’s one of our stronger line ups…
I thought I saw something that alluded to Uribe staying at SS, but all I can find is from the Merc on the 14th:
“It’s no surprise that Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Uribe would remain a starter when Edgar Renteria comes off the disabled list Wednesday.”
I agree on the best line-up.
Right on Craig, but instead we get Rowand. Whoo hoo!
What I seem to be inept at pointing out is that I think Bochy is simply being careful with Juan’s pride and for damn good reason. It’s symbolic as much as anything else, keeping Juan at SS tonight. Fact is, defensively it’s Juan’s worst position of the 3 and it’s also the only position Renteria plays. Unless he performs poorly or is reinjured, Edgar will be there regularly and soon… they all know that.
Honestly I’d rather see rent dh (assuming boch needs to go with this statement thing of uribe at ss). But whatever, rowand can pop one out now and again. And our OF d is better (I’m asuming row is in center but the LU I saw didn’t show positions)
I hear you TF, but I’ve heard it reported numerous times over the last couple weeks that Bochy is not going to cater to any players’ hurt feelings anymore. I think Uribe understands his ultimate value to this team is his bat and ability as a utility man, not SS. If Rent is healthy and ready to play, he should be in there and Rowand on the bench. That’s the best LU and gives our guys the best chance of winning.
Bagger, I don’t see any dispute. I totally fucking agree. I’m talking about tonight only. I think he’s now made his staement and we go from here. Rowand is going to play SOME BTW, he’s now Nate….
If it’s the best lineup, it’s the best lineup tonight.
You really don’t know when to fucking stop, pal. This team doesn’t have one that is so fucking much better that it has to be *THE LU*. And some guys do need some starts. So just fucking chill out, Bags.
Flem said on the radio the balls were flying outta the park during BP. A regular HR Derby.
Strap yourself in tightly. I think we’re in for a donnybrook tonight.
Lefty en fuego the front 9 at Pebble.
I’m as chill as a Candlestick breeze.
Not certain this has been reported on the Flap today . . . Tulowitski is on the 15 day DL due to being hit by Twins reliever Alex Burnett. Chipped bone in his wrist . . . No decision on whether surgery and/or a cast is going to suffice as treatment. Local talk radio is saying that he may be out for as long as 6-9 weeks.
