Everyone Come in Off the Ledge Before Game Two Starts
Just a demoralizing loss, there’s no other way to describe it. When you consider that we all love baseball, ultimately, for *enjoyment* it makes you wonder how we could watch last night’s game in its entirety….
And Torre almost was conceding the game with that starting line up. Sitting Kemp, Loney AND Martin? Jesus.
Maybe the baseball Gods just hate Barry Zito. When we get games like last night it always *seems* like he’s pitching. Struggling to score runs, bonehead plays, 8th inning implosions…”Zito Games” have it all. It’s too bad, he pitched very well. Again.
Loved the “Hate the Blake” posts on the last thread. Nice Seinfeld reference…..
What a shocker. The fucking Dodgers beat the fucking Giants. No matter how badly the Dodgers are playing, a surefire cure for what ails them lies in a quick trip to San Francisco for an easy series win. Shaky pitching becomes tough, cold bats become forceful and timely, and a porous defense becomes a place where Giant hits go to die.
41 years of following the San Francisco Giants and the one dominating theme has been, the Dodgers beat the Giants. The Dodgers beat the Giants. The Dodgers beat the Giants. And on and on…
Not cool that we were almost part of a Dodger franchise record of 6 double plays. As it was, we matched a Los Angeles record by them turning five double plays on us . . . sigh. Moreover, I just read this nugget of bad news concerning our propensity to hit into double plays . . .
“I don’t want this to get in their heads too much.”
– Manager Bruce Bochy on his team leading the NL in double-play grounders. They’re on target to break the franchise record of 153, set in 1939, and challenge the big-league record of 174, set by the 1990 Red Sox.
Even with the season not half over, I’m thinking that the Wild Card is going to be very difficult to obtain. We have 4 teams ahead of us – Mets, Cards, Dodgers, Phillies, albeit, we are only 2.5 games back. Nevertheless, the “mantra” has to be Division title or I suspect we will be looking (again) from the “outside in” come October.
And Flav, whatever joy I once had watching these two clubs play left my body years ago.
Giants baseball: two steps forward, three steps back.
JBat – you definitely need to come in off the ledge (and while your there, can you help me transition that tight walk around the corner and towards the window).
Fuck, I don’t know what it is with Casey Fucking Blake. So many times he has gone yard to drive a stake through the hearts of the Giants and their fans, and last night, I was sitting there just praying that he wouldn’t do it again. TWO strikes, TWO outs, and Casiilla hung a fat-assed FB right in Blake’s goddamned wheel-house, and well…I need say no more. Un-fucking-believable. Yeah…it’s only one game…a lot more to play…blah fucking blah…that motherfucker hurt, and hurt bad.
I was feeling good in the 9th when Buster came to bat, but dammit, he swung at some high cheese that certainly looked to be ball four. Wonder how Pablo felt getting PH for with the game on the line in the 9th? if he had a problem with it…well, there is only one fix…raise your fucking average…especially against lefties.
New day today. Cainer is due to get on track and time for the bats to come alive. Please fucking please…Beat the FUCKING DODGERS.
Blade – the 1990 Sox also played in the ALCS (sure, they got their asses swept by the A’s, but they damned near got to the dance). Twin had a really good comment on DPs last week…can’t recall it exactly, but basically I think the gist was that lots of clubs have hit into many DPs, but were still successful in winning games and making it to the playoffs.
I agree though…when watching a game, and you have the potential for a rally, the DPs do suck the air outta ya.
I DEFINITELY don’t feel that *rivalry* like the old days. To me, the Dodgers are basically just another team. A division foe. I hear “Beat LA” rise up from the crowd, a chant that used to burn something deep in my soul, and now….it really does nothing to me. Not sure why…..
Casey Blake is a perfect example of an otherwise career hack, a true fucking meatball, who will consistently hit the shit out of Giants pitching. I fucking hate that guy and his stupid Jay Leno chin, and I wish one of the Giants pitchers would nut up and stick one in his fucking ear.
I have no such problem, Flav. I hate them with an irrational burning fire, the kind of hatred borne from rarely having success against them. If we’d been thumping their asses for the last 40 years, I probably wouldn’t give them any more attention than a piece of shit stuck on my shoe.
Good “catch” Chi regarding the 1990 Red Sox, i.e., I had no idea that they were able to overcome the DP futility and make the playoffs.
You alluded to “Cainer is due to get on track” . . . I’m not going to over-emphasize the importance of 1 game out of 162, but with Timmy being a bit out of whack lately and Cain getting thumped by Houston last time out, this is a key game for Cain. He has to do way better than the nine hits and seven runs, both season highs, in a season-low 2 2-3 innings, against the Astros.
Off to the gym . . . Enjoy your day Flappers. Go Giants!
Got to comment . . . Great line JBat – If we’d been thumping their asses for the last 40 years, I probably wouldn’t give them any more attention than a piece of shit stuck on my shoe.
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chi, I’m easing of the ledge. Come on in with me, brother. Coming here to vent helps!
I HATE THE FUCKING DODGERS!
JB, great posts. That one hurt, and Torre knows SF played like his team has lately, making just enough mistakes to lose. Posey wasn’t the guy for that time, imo.
Kelley should have been able to see the cutoff guy in place and hold Sando, I thought. Ethier has best arm out there, first out of the inning, Rowand wasn’t going anywhere yet. Obviously, Pablo not fast or smart enough to hold up a rundown long enough either…shouldn’t have happened.
Casilla is unhittable, of course, until he isn’t. I’ve pointed this out before, the league hit .300 off this guy two years in a row at Oakland, and his WHIP was really high. His last outing was pretty high drama. And don’t forget Mota almost got Huff killed out there too. These guys have a shelf life; they will be effective for a while, and then get lit up. I know it happens to the best like Broxton Sunday, but I just don’t think either of these guys are much of an answer to set up issue.
It’s not how far down you get, it’s how you respond to it. 2 opps left to show LA what we got…5 HRs last night in Petco, and Rox take down Padres. One at a time.
Jesus, the Dodgers are 24 and 13 at AT&T?! Fuck that. Fucking pathetic.
I too love that line JBat…and was also LMAO….my workmates nearby were probably going WTF!? I’m down brother…I’m coming in off the ledge. And I am with you…I still hate the fucking Bums PASSIONATELY!
When at the yard and the Giants playing the Dodger’s sorry asses…I still get fired-up as hell by the BEAT LA chant. My daughter was there last night, and towards the end of the game (think it was the bottom of the 9th) there was a good chant going. Made the hair on my neck stand-up…and was wishing like hell I was there.
Fuck, I wanted Buster to start a game winning rally so fucking bad. Ahhhh….okay…breathe. Anyway…I get the “it’s only one game,” but I agree with Blade and feel today’s game is key. With a win, the team sits itself up for a possible series win before hitting the road. A loss would just flat out suck, and would translate to another series loss…this one against a hated division foe.
Orange and Black Forever! GO GIANTS!!
Watching Manny, a real pro of a hitter if nothing else, take that little dink hit to RF that got the shit started, should be a lesson for everyone. If that’s what they are giving you, fucking take it and don’t try and put one over the glove or into the water.
And don’t forget that Bonds is in town for Shorenstein funeral….I think he could help fire up the guys, and give some good advice. I’d love to see him in the dugout or at least at the park. These guys got where they are by using their heads as well their god given talent.
Well, Willied, that’;s the point. If Sandio doesn’t brain-lock, and the Giants take the lead, they play the 8th and 9th differently. Affeldt comes in instead of Casilla. Does it make a difference? Who knows?
But, fuck the excuses for Panda. He’s got to worry about what is right in front of him. Of course Rowand is going to deke a throw. That’s going to happen EVERY TIME. What Pablio failed to notice was the cut off man standing 10 feet away from him. Sure, there’s something to being aggressive, but not in that situation. HE thought the trhow was going through, it didn’t and he paid the price.
Still and all, Bengie was up next and likely would have hit into a DP anyway, so the point is mute.
I know. It’s MOOT, motherfuckers . . .
Giants baseball. Torture. Truer words were never spoken . . .
Again, in PH roles, Ishikawa and Schierholtz came through. Isn’t it about time they get rewarded for their contributions? Bochy had to have been incredibly pissed last night when he pinched Buster for Pablo. Buster admitted he was swinging for the fences there, where he could have copped a walk on what turned out to be strike three. Nevertheless, it may be high past time to sit Molina and let Posey take over the primary catching duties. My thought is that it will cut his tensions and let him be day-to-day Buster.
Entire team is in a funk right now and its hard to figure it out. Except for Casilla’s one mistake the pitching was really quite good. But those DPs! Christ on a Crippled Creek Crutch. That trend has to end. Hope its sooner than later.
Cain will need to be the stopper tonight. Matt the Horse must dominate the LaBumbos. Could determine the fate of the team for the season. Not kidding. Hitters have got to come out of it and give him some breathing space. Three runs in the bottom of the first and Cainer goes on cruise control. This kid has never beaten the Blue. Bout time. Not to extend the downer, but the way the Rox scrambled the Pads last night tells us they may be at the point of the season where they heat up.
Bashing the Bums tonight is imperative and knocking them off their cans tomorrow, with the ugly, incredibly ugly Vicente Padilla on the mound then is essential. If the wins don’t come now, before that 11 gamer commencing with Colorado, SF could be looking at fighting off the Snakes for 4th.
It’s Crunch Time, gang. Bochy needs to get that message across to the troops in the clubhouse this evening. This team has too much talent to stay in this funk. Bruce will need to be both creative and selective in filling out his lineup card for the evening. It might as well begin with Pablo riding pine for the evening and Bengie sitting and sitting.
I’m not a Benjie fan, but Posey isn’t doing anything right now to send Benjie to permanent exile. And I don’t sit Sando either, he probably hit the hardest shot all night off an SF bat, and he has cracked some balls lately without much luck. He knows he fucked up, and feels terrible about it. Go on about your biz, settle down and do what you can to help the team win, same as every other 162.
This might be pure room B, but I’m also not a fan of the “see more pitches per AB” school of hitting. Red sox, on the night they walked 9 times, lost the only game of the series. They only got 3 hits before the 9th. Why allow a pitcher to steal a strike and put you behind on the first pitch? How many guys take a first pitch strike, and then swing and miss the next pitch out of the zone? It’s strictly a situational thing, and if it’s there in the zone you like and what you are looking for, fine…you can criticize the excecution of the swing, but not the decision, imo.
Morgan talked Sunday night game about guys automatically taking a 3-0 cookie, that it might be the best pitch you see in an AB. It happened a couple times vs. Rivera…what is the point of taking a hittable pitch, and then having to try and hit the fucking cutter on the hands?
Well I have also been watching the Giant Dodger series for 40+ years and while free agency has diluted the rivalry (see Jeff Kent) I still don’t like the fact the Giants can’t seem to whipp their ass regularly!!
Chi, the other possible reason Pablo was pinch hit for is telling him be a smarter base runner!! What a fucking rally killer that was!!
Kev – sure, the baserunning gaffe could have been the reason for which Pablo was PH, but my guess is it is more his stats against lefties (batting RH):
.211, .265, .289, .555.
LH vs. RHP:
.298, .359, .462, .821.
And I agree with WillieD – I don’t think the answer with Sandoval is to sit him.
Permanent exile, Willied? No. But Posey should have more than 3 starts as catcher in his 24 games with the team.
It still makes no sense to me that he’s here playing 1st.
Yeah. i was going to say that about Pablo, but they could have batted him LH.
I just wonder if at some point soon they decide to lose Rent. And Bengie. Sure, they’d have to bank on Uribe holding up at SS the rest of the year, but getting Huff back to 1st, and Pablo back to 3rd would seem to be a good idea down the stretch.
Neal’s heating up nicely down in Squirrel-town. Shit, give him a taste of the action . . .
Willied, the problem with their hacking is they are hacking at shit pitches. Torres for example. 1st pitch swinging at a ball in on his hands. DP. Nice play, but still, be a LITTLE more selective when there are guys on base. It happens with too much regularity. The hitters are trying to do something at the expense of waiting for a pitch THEY can do something with.
They all seem to get WAY too overanxious when there are runs to be driven in. Look at Sanchez’s AB for a different take. He worked the count a little, and waited for a pitch to hit. He drove it up the middle.
This post more than anything seemed to settle my anger over that game:
“I’m not a Benjie fan, but Posey isn’t doing anything right now to send Benjie to permanent exile. And I don’t sit Sando either, he probably hit the hardest shot all night off an SF bat, and he has cracked some balls lately without much luck. He knows he fucked up, and feels terrible about it. Go on about your biz, settle down and do what you can to help the team win, same as every other 162.”
Thanks, willied.
I still would like for Bengie to never play another game as a Giant but whatever – you’re right about Pablo.
The arc of this season sure feels a fucking hell of a lot like last season. I’m waiting for them to make a run a few weeks after the All Star break to make us believe they can compete, only to be shut down by the Dodgers and Padres when it really matters and end up 6 games out, causing me to wonder why I ever thought they had a chance. It makes me want to give up on this team but I know I’ll get excited like a puppy with two dicks when that fucking run happens.
For me right now, it’s all about Bumgarner. If he starts to prove he belongs with the big club, he should provide the spark the team needs. If the Giants get something out of him that’s even close to Lincecum’s first half-season in the bigs, it would be a prosecutable crime if they wasted their starting pitching by not making the playoffs. A crime punishable by the firings of Sabean and Bochy? I suppose that depends on how angry all of us are at the end of the season at their wasted opportunities….
“I just wonder if at some point soon they decide to lose Rent.” WTF. They won’t lose Rent. That’s ludicrous. He gives them the flexibility to move guys around to get a break and keep ’em fresh down the stretch. THAT is one of the beauties of this team (in relation to their short-comings) is the interchangeable pieces that allows Bochy to move guys around/give them a day off. Also, Renteria’s numbers are still pretty good:
.333, .389, .412, .801. You don’t just “lose” a guy like this.
Bengie…another story. If he doesn’t start hitting soon (.255, .307, .330, .637), Bochy has to go the Rowand route and sit him regularly. Also, the ball he hit hard to third…many players with even average wheels probably turn that into an infield single. Bengie – no fucking chance.
This doesn’t excuse Pablo’s gaffe, but I was wondering, would Molina’s subsequent ground ball have been an inning ending DP?
“It makes me want to give up on this team but I know I’ll get excited like a puppy with two dicks when that fucking run happens.” That is too fucking funny, and I can relate. Puppy with two dicks…I thought I had heard ’em all…
I wish I could take credit for it but it’s from some 80’s movie – like a John Hughes flick or Fletch or something…
I was not familiar…regardless of the origin…a classic, and it seriously made me LMAO (and I sure as hell need all of that I can get after last night’s game).
I thought Renteria looked bad both offensively and defensively. It seems he can’t get anything not hit directly at him.
It doesn’t look like it’s lining up to be Strasburg-Bumgarner, but how cool would that have been? If they figured out how to beat Strasburg and win for Bumgarner the next night heading into the AS Break, that might be the lift this team is looking for heading into the 2nd half…
Just trying to find something to look forward to besides the merciful end of each Giants game.
Get used to the DPs all year. This team is fuckin slow, and swings at a lot of shit pitches, so you’re going to get grounders hacked to the left side with with men on base. That = DPs galore. Pablo played dunderhead last night, sure, but after a solid hit and good AB. Tho’ I”ll qualify the good AB because he fouled off a lot of very hittable pitches from Weaver. Last year, he whacks one of those outta the park, or for a double. I still say he needs a couple days in a row off, just to get his mind right. Then, back he comes. He’s in a Sophomore Slump, and it’s going to be that way this year. Happens to lots of ’em…
Chi, I wasn’t disputing the fact that Pablo isn’t hitting the ball, I said the other reason.
Max, if Bengie was batting 8th, they may have walked him to get to the pitcher if Pablo was still on first.
The toughest losses show the mettle of the blog commenters, not just the team. As usual, the ball club will respond better than Room B. Pablo made a bonehead base running blunder. He’s 23 years old, fergawed’s sake. The Dodger *veterans* Martin, Kemp, and Reed Johnson all had terrible blunders against Anaheim last week. Kemp was on second in the 9th, down 2-1 and was picked off. In the other, even worse TO END THE GAME, Martin rounded second on a base hit by Carroll and Johnson was about to score easily. But Johnson loafed to the plate, Martin rounded too far and was thrown out before Johnson scored what would have been the tying run. Game over… This was in THE SAME INNING that Kemp had been picked…
These guys are all vets, Panda is still a kid. He deserves a break.
“The toughest losses show the mettle of the blog commenters, not just the team.”
I’ve been thinking all morning about how I can’t stand the way my emotions get the better of me when they lose like this. But still, it’s tough to find anything positive about their lack of performance in important games. It’s an emotional game and sometimes we let our feelings about it override our rational thought processes.
The bluner by Pablo and the lack of a key hit didn’t bother me nearly as much as Casey Fucking Blake going deep on a two strike count with two outs. That just plain fucking hurt. New day, new game. Time for Cain to finally beat the Bums.
The Dodger blunders were far worse than Panda’s. His comes from inexperience, he thought he was making a good play and it WOULD have been if the ball was even a little deeper. The frustration of it caused a lot of folks to way overreact, me included. I hope he’s out there tonight, he looks real close. He coulda killed Ethier with that shot.. the Dodger gaffes were from sloth and stupidity…
1st game i’ve watched in over a month and that fucker Blake goes yard and drives a stake through the heart.
Sandoval made a few dumb ass plays like that last year too. Difference was that his ABs made up for it. Its cool, the guy is young. When he made mistakes last year he rarely repeated them. He learned from the mistake and that’s all you can ask. Kind of BS on FSBA to keep going back to that replay over and over and over. Dude fucked up. Okay, we get it.
Tough loss but its just one game. Take the next two and it becomes a distant memory.
I think you can sum up last night’s game with this analogy. When Napoleon died in Exile, the doctors cut off his dick. They put his dick in an ornate jar and gave it to his priest; don’t ask me why. Over the years, Napoleon’s dick was sold and sold again to the highest bidder. To this day, at least three people claim to own Napoleon’s dick. But you see, it’s not important who owns the real dick. The big question is, well… who the fuck do those other two dicks belong to?
That is some seriously funny shit, thanks Ted!
Thanks swick. In full discosure I heard it in a movie as well but can’t remember which one
I was trying to find something to ease my pain over yesterday’s loss and thought I would look up Zach Wheeler’s stats in Augusta to see if I could glean any good news.
Big mistake.
If you have the MLB network, there’s a pretty cool thing going on right now. They’re broadcasting live in Stockton, a game between the Stockton Ports and the Bakersfield Blaze.
The only negative- Dan Dibley is one of the broadcasters. Yikes- that voice.
Thank you TF, I have now stepped away from the ledge!!
Swick, the kid hasn’t pitched for 5 weeks, fingernail prob. Geez, you’re actually looking for downers if you’re pinning your sanity on an 18 YO pitcher. The kid is going to be awesome, chill out.
Here, try this instead, Thomas Neal, last 3 games:
15 AB 8 H 1 2b 4 HR 8 RBI
Now don’t say I never did anything for ya..
D’oh! Man, I’m on fire. Didn’t even look at the dates for Wheeler – I forgot that he was out.
I did see Neal’s stats. I was actually looking at minor league stats in general, not just Wheeler.
LMFAO Ted, Only on the Flap do we get stories on how Napolean tore his Bone Apart.
Napoleon “tore his Bone Apart.” Very good. Glad to see guys trying to lighten it up around here. As Reno said…go take the next two and last night’s game is a distant memory.
So Cain rocks tonight, the offense gets back on track and put one in the W column!! GO GIANTS
It blows my mind that Cain has never gotten a win against the Dodgers. Tonight’s the night!
I’m not saying that the DPs and lack of hits with RISP aren’t hurting the team (they are), but during this recent scuffle, consider the following (from a piece on mlb.com):
“Over the next few weeks, the Giants will be defined by quality. Recently, San Francisco has dropped seven of its last 10 games, falling 4 1/2 games behind San Diego for first place in the National League West.
The Giants’ starting pitching, however, has lacked quality — in the form of quality starts. Before Barry Zito’s outing Monday, San Francisco starters hadn’t logged a quality outing in five straight games, which marked the club’s longest drought since mid-May.
It was a five-game aberration for the Giants, who are ranked third in the National League with 45 quality starts. During that span, only one starter — Madison Bumgarner — lasted more than six innings and the rotation has recorded a combined 9.45 ERA.”
Let’s hope a couple of trends are changed tonight…first that the Giant starters again start delivering what we have come to expect from them, and secondly, that Matt gets his first (and much-overdue) win against the Bums.
For Bonehead to publicly talk about Timmy maybe needing better conditioning (just read Bagg’s column yesterday) is a freekin joke. If so, keep that in house and have him work on it with Rags. Yet, Bonehead won’t call out Molina on being a fuckin human cheeseburger behind the plate. Absolute nonsensical manager move, say something in public to piss off your marquee pitcher….
Man i sure want the Giants SP staff turn it around against the Dodgers, but the facts don’t lie.Only Tim and sometimes Zito have had success against them, that’s it.This just won’t work if your competing with the Bums year in and year out. They need to turn these numbers around fast! Combined record of the 4, 10-17 with the only wins from Tim and Barry.
Career stats against the Bums:
Matt Cain 0-7 76IP 90 H 35 ER 6HR 37 BB 56 K’s 4.13 ERA 1.66 WHIP .301 BAA
Barry Zito 6-5 96IP 90H 44 ER 8 HR 27 BB 71 K’s 4.13 ERA 1,22 Whip ,253 BAA
Tim L 4-1 49 IP34 H 16 ER 1 HR 22 BB 55 K’s 2.96 ERA 1.15 Whip .197 BAA
J Sanchez 0-4 42 IP 44 H 28 ER 5 HR 25 BB 37 K’s 5.96 ERA .163 WHIP .270 BAA
July contest question…are the selctions limited to those who are picked for the All-Star team or are we counting potential Giants that may replace others on the roster due to injjury?
And FYI, the Cock has just been called up for the Phillies…how many of our former prospects up with other teams?
Yeah i couldn’t agree more Snarkk. That’was total BS on Bochy what a joke.Take’s time out to blame Lincecum’s failure to be out of shape.Presumably while he and Molina and Sandoval were sharing a 45 meat/cheese extra king size pizza and 6 family buckets of fried chicken tits.
Cue up the fucking Barnum and Bailey circus music. The only thing missing is the twin towers of tooldom.Baer and Bow Tie standing in front of the Willie Mays statue with a pair of organ grinders and rhesus monkeys.
Shit, Snarkk, it’s no fucking secret that Timmy’s losing velocity late, and even in the middle, of games.
All you have to do is look at the speed gun to see he isn’t reaching 90 late in games.
These last few starts he’s been inconsistent to say the least.
Bochy said: “I think Timmy will tell you other parts of the game, like conditioning, can play a role. Matt Cain will tell you it helped change him. He turned it up a notch in the conditioning part. That could be the case with Timmy.”
That’s hardly calling him out. But Tim was gassed by the 3rd inning vs Boston. He never does well in the heat. It’s a legit concern. And it isn’t going to kill Tim to read about this.
2, GH. Cockblock and Frannie . . .
Or go look up J R Phillips. . .
Does Aardsma count?
It’s nothing like the Warriors, GH. EVERY fricking basketball team has at least 5 ex-Warriors on it.
In other words, AK, Timmy’s conditioning has little to do with Molina.
Timmy’s problem is that he throwing too many balls that hitters are now taking instead of swinging. He is getting too many full counts and hitters like Ortiz can then wait on his not super-fast fastball and take it deep. What did Lester have a 3-1 pitch? There is no reason to ever give the opposing pitcher 3 balls.
So I dont know if it really is conditioning, but more a loss in his effectiveness delivering pitches. J. Sanchez does the same thing. We need the next two games…period!
Chuck…that frickin ridiculous pick by the Warriors in the draft last week still has me steamed…
Ellison should have filed an injunction before the draft to stop the current set of idiots doing what they ended up doing on Thursday. I am still pissed nearly a week later by their boneheaded actions…Riley says they now need a 3 a SF, but they could have drafted one in that kid from Wake Forest. Makes my blood boil.
2 Dicks, 3 Balls? What’s this place coming to?
Sweet Jesus. And by that I mean of course the son of god dipped in chocolate.
Flav – can you post the July contest details?
Well, it has been quite the run, but Blade has passed me up in the Flap fantasy league. Bastard (posted with the utmost in admiration and respect)!
I like my Jesus dipped in 80% cacao dark chocolate. Mmmm…
What fucking channel is the game on tonight? I’m goddamn local and it doesn’t list Ch. ‘3’, only ’11’ which is Sacto, I believe.
This motherfucking game better be on the tube or I’ll be looking for bastards to push off the goddamn motherfucking ledge.
Posey dipped in chocolate??
I know this is the San Francisco Giants, but really…
GH, I’m glad to be a Kings fan and appreciative of getting to draft behind Memphis and Minnesota in the past two drafts. Tyreke and Cousins are an impressive two year haul for #4 and #5 picks. I feel for you Warriors fans with all of the club drama lately. At least Curry was an outstanding pickup at #7 last year.
Dennis, exactly how I felt Saturday without being able to get the Giants-Sox game and the Bum…
Swick, I said last year before the draft that I wanted Tyreke Evans for the Warriors. Unbelievable player…as a kentucky fan, I am nervous how Cousins will pan out, but he has big, big upside. Dont know how well he will fit with the rest of the up-tempo Kings…getting rid of Martin was a mistake…
It’ll be cool to see Evans and Curry battle over the next few years. Until Griffin shows he’s back, they’re easily the two best players from the ’09 draft.
I was okay with ditching Martin – especially for Landry, with whom the Rockets very reluctantly parted. Martin was frequently injured and was going to be an impediment to Evans taking control of the team. The team already had lost a lot of its up-tempo style and doesn’t have a SG to speak of. You can see that Petrie very deliberately got more defensive-minded in the past year with Dalembert, Brockman, Casspi, Greene and even Evans, who is an above-average defender. Also, they have lots of cap room in a year with a shitload of FAs.
The ’02 Kings are dead and gone, replaced by a team that should be intimidating in the middle (buh-fucking-bye Spencer Hawes) and will fight for a lot of rebounds. I don’t know if it’ll be pretty playoff basketball yet but they should win games on sheer toughness alone.
Yeah Swick…I like the direction of the Kings and liked this year’s top two picks.
I was a W’s fan for years until the Kings moved to Sac. Will always have a spot for the W’s but am certainly a Kings fan.
Chi, what’s your guess on Kings wins this year? Without knowing who they might pick up in free agency this year, I’m guessing they have added enough to gain 5-10 wins over last year’s 25…
Yeah, but you’re in the D.C. area, IIRC. I live 25 fucking miles away from the goddamn ballpark.
It better be on or this will get ugly.
Yes, very valid point Dennis. Last night’s game was not a sellout either? That is very surprising to me…
Could any of you other local guys (Flav, Chuck, Twin) please check your listing. I think you guys have Comcast as well. It’s not scheduled for the 7:00 NBC hour.
Dennis – who is your provider? I get the Sacramento area DiSH network…it is on a local channel tonight (Channel 31).
Usually it’s NBC’s Bay Area broadcast when Channel 31 airs it.
Here is a TV Guide listing…you enter your ZIP code, then pick your provider, and it lists what is showing for that day/that provider/that area.

Thanks, Chi. It’s still not listing the game on Ch. ‘3’. I called KNTV (NBC) and talked to some guy at the news desk who said the game was on. But he didn’t sound too convincing. After last night’s game, this would be the fucking cherry on top.
Wonder if Timmy’s ‘conditioning’ may not relate to his bust a few months back. People smoke for a lot of reasons. There are many different grades of smokum. Like the Indica is soporific, kinda like opiated quaaludes. Sativa is more of an activator/energizer. Maybe Tim is off his medicine. Maybe a lot of his hyperanxious teammates could use some good, positive, energizing but relaxing medication.
Fkkk the Feds, the Duponts, the Mellons and Big Pharma. At least you Californians have the chance to vote on it this fall by way of Initiative and Referendum. Democracy, baby. As for “bad influence on kidz” ~~ psssss on that nonsense. Ask any 16 year old. He’ll tell you where to get anything you want. It’s the hypocritical, corporate-serving attitudes that gets em thinking all forbidden fruits are good and then they go doing something stupid like taking hard drugs.
Ignore me if i’m “off message” and if you suffer from an acute case of cognitive dissonance. For a fact i know that my writing and the insights behind it happens to be one helluva lot better when i’m buzzed than not ~ which happens not to be now. I’ve been out in the sun hoeing weeds a bit long, my brain’s a bit cooked, the Giants lost last night and i’m in a bit of a pissed off mood.
This whole country needs a good reality check.
I’ll be voting yes.
Hey Chi . . . I just saw your post – My hat’s off to you friend, i.e., I can’t even recall who was in 1st place prior to you having a “death grip” on the Flap Fantasy League top spot in late April. Besides, 2 days in 1st doesn’t mean shit . . . Especially with you, Giant Head and No Talent breathing down my neck (and I know that Flav and the rest of the gang have made runs, as they will again).
By the by, I have to thank Flav in public here . . . He has been outstanding in explaining some of the nuances of Fantasy League baseball to me. I was lost when I started.
Early on Flav lead the league for a while. Then I believe it was Giant Head. Yeah…I had a good run, and a hell of a lead for a while. But you kept snipping away. Nice run. Now let’s see how long you can stay there. 😉
delmardennis… Comcast in our area (Marin) has it listed for ch 11
“By the by, I have to thank Flav in public here . . . He has been outstanding in explaining some of the nuances of Fantasy League baseball to me. I was lost when I started.” That’s not good news for me…I’m STILL lost. 😉
You’re welcome Dennis re: the TV Guide link. Nice to have it at work, etc. to find out what’s showing on a specific channel, etc. Hope you end up finding the game. I’d be pissed if it wasn’t showing, and my ass would be with you on the ledge looking for folks to shove off.
There is no July contest yet, just the ASG contest, if there are 25 contestants minimum. Deadline is noon July 1. Pick the Giants’ All-Stars. Simple. It must be exact and the number includes all that are picked, whether they end up on the squad or not. So if Tim, Wilson, and Uribe are picked, you must have all three and no more. If, say, Uribe is hurt and replaced by Huff- you have to have all FOUR. First tie breaker is the winner of the game, second tie breaker is total runs scored.
Ah, that is what I was asking about,Twin…the ASG contest. Thanks.
You all know that at the current time, I am not a big proponent of a trade. But, here is a Bleacher Report piece that talks of a prospective Giant trade. Thoughts?

I will shoot you my ASG picks later this eve or tomorrow, Flav.
