A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Exit Molina Stage Left–What SHOULD Happen vs What WILL Happen

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 1, 2010

Let’s forget about Chris Ray for a moment– if he’s capable he’ll fill a hole in our BP. If he’s not we can ‘Garko’ him….

Obviously Posey now goes to catcher since Bochy isn’t insane and can’t  be considering more Whiteside behind the plate. By the way, how’s that “personal catcher” thing going? He and Dirrrrty don’t seem to have the same magic, do they?

Anyway, to me this move is all about defense. As in, IMPROVING it. And if the Giants really want to max out on this Molina Move they will put Travis Ishikawa in as the everyday first baseman.  Uribe and Renteria should be in almost a flat platoon at SS–both look tired right now and probably need the rest. Ishikawa would play lock down defense at first and I think would hit better than people think. With Posey behind the plate, Ishi at first, Franchez at 2nd, Uribe/Rent at SS and Panda at 3rd you’ve got yourself the best infield defense we can put out there.

What LIKELY will happen. Huff goes to first and we see more Rowand or Shierholtz in the OF. Again, our defense gets BETTER with that move since Huff isn’t the outfielder that Row/Nate are. But I don’t need to see the Nate Schierholtz Show anymore.  No comment on Rowand. Travis Ishikawa has been consistently ignored by Sabean and Bochy for 2 years running. He should get his chance and if he can’t do it there are lots of secondary in house moves Bochy can make…….

Terrible decision, that ball should never get to the wall.

Mota seems to lack an out pitch. Foul-off after foul-off and then that long slice.

Frickin’ Olivo . . . I hate to say it, but In fairness to him, you’re probably looking at your NL All Star catcher.

That’s our new everyday catcher? Well someone better show him how to CATCH THE DAMN BALL!

Dennis, Posey caught it fine. He just wasn’t quite ready for M.L. intensity when Olivo kicked it outta his mitt. He’ll remember that one. Sometime this summer he’ll place a tag on him that’ll leave a welt till Xmas. Nice catch by Torres, BTW. That guy has wheels.

Whew . . . thank the baseball Gods that Torres was in left field and not Burrell. That might have been an inside the park home run otherwise.

We can’t win on the road, and win can’t win within the division regardless of locale.
That has all the earmarks of a long summer drought.

Got any room on the ledge? This is tough to take.

Dennis, Posey had no time to secure that. Give him a break. He snagged the throw at the same time the runner’s knee hit. That’s not on him at all.

We *should* hit Street. He’s coming into a non-save situation. Bad move.

Posey got robbed by Mora. Two good plays by Mora diving to his left and right this evening. Giants can’t buy a break . . . sigh.

I’m sorry, but Nate doesn’t say “major league starter” to me.

  16. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on July 1, 2010 at 8:36 pm

No need to get all gloomy and doomy. The one major positive tonight was the battery. You were watching history happen. Bumgarner and Posey. Madison didn’t deserve to get tagged with a couple of those runa. He was solid. Good hitting behind him and he’s a winner most of the time. With the catching job his, Posey not only did a good job behind the plate. He was snapping that ball with his lumber. Spark isn’t there right now for the rest of the team, but those two kids will contribute bigtime.

    Bumgarner deserved better.

Worse Twin, the knucklehead broadcasters here in Colorado are saying that Posey should have been positioned in front of the plate for the collision . . . yeah, right. Of course, it isn’t their franchise player. Tools.

”The boys are folding up shop” More total bullshit.

I deserved that. I’m just really frustrated with the team right now. A lot of expectations on the Giants this year, and nothing frustrates like expectations not lived up to.

Our offense continues to disappoint. Three runs at Coors Field ain’t gonna cut it. Madison comported himself well once again. Not enough. Wish I had some magic answer, I don’t Six straight wears pretty thin on my soul. Can only imagine how the players feel. Keep trying.

Said it before earlier in the slump. Team is all outta synch and desperately needs a spark. It’s gonna happen. Hopefully sooner. Maybe the baseball gods will do a flip-flop now that they have messed with this team and Mora just misses the next two rockets. Maybe the one that Burrell fouled straight back gets full wood next time. Maybe Timmy reconnects with his connexion and helps Pablo relax enough to rediscover his inner Panda.

Like Thomas Paine said in Common Sense back even before i was born: “These are the times that try men’s souls”. My question is whether all the summer soldiers and sunshine patriots will desert the Giants before the flip. I’m sure its happening heavily on the Splash where doom and gloom dominate the room. Is the Flap ready for the flip? I sure am.

TF: You left a sticky-note with the unit. All letters and numbers. My codebreaking skills are pretty limited. Sure you don’t need a better technician?

Quote from Molina (paraphrasing) – ‘I have been playing with a hurt elbow for the last month’.

Per Baggs, Sabean had to trade him just to get Posey catching and Molina out of the lineup. We simple have the worse manager in baseball. Anyone should be able to go at least .500 with this pitching staff.

Time to pull a D’backs move me thinks.

  30. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 1, 2010 at 9:19 pm

“Time to pull a D’backs move me thinks.” DBacks are 27.5 games behind us since the beginning of last year. ( If you’re going to try to be annoyingly cute, BTW, it’s absolutely necessary to get it right. “Methinks” is one word, fuck. )

Gringo, would you have fired Joe Torre (who does have those rings we all would die for) for losing 8 out of 10 with the likes of Kemp, Furcal, Ethier, Manny, Blake and James Loney, plus Broxton to close? That’s about a half a dozen all stars right there, or about 5 more position players all stars than Bochy has. their 9 out played his, he knows and so does his team, and they know it’s unacceptable. Nuff said.

I agree they are not playing well, but fining people, firing people and raising hell just don’t accomplish much, imo. Interesting tho that on mlb they were just discussing the successful vet mgrs., such as Francona, Torre, Cox, Gaston, and they are mostly pretty calm stay the course guys. Sure they are competitive and hate to lose, but I just don’t buy the idea that SF needs a hell raiser to spark the team. I don’t think that is what Tracy did with the Rox, nor Bud Black with the Pads…exact opposite, i’d say.

Ray and Main aren’t a bad haul. Main had an inexplicably poor year in 2009 but this is a 1st round pick. This from Jim Callis at Baseball america:
“Ray will bring some consistency to middle relief for the Giants, but Main is the real prize in this trade. In fact, many are surprised that the Giants were able to land him for an aging catcher on the decline. The 21-year-old Main was drafted in the first round back in 2007 and has rattled off a 1.18 WHIP and a 72/21 K/BB ratio over 15 starts this season at High-A ball. He will report to the Giants’ Double-A affiliate on Friday.”
And Ray is still on the rebound from TJ surgery.
