A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Cain VS Strasburg

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 9, 2010

I gotta admit, I did NOT see us sweeping the Brewers. I don’t think anyone did. They are BAD aren’t they? Oh well, you have to beat the bad teams if you want to make the playoffs….

Tonight we get our 2nd best pitching match up of the year. Cain vs S-squared. Hey, we swept the Brewers, we’re obviously hitting well. We scored 7 off Mr Invincible (Ubaldo), why the hell can’t we knock this young chump around a little? He’s hardly been perfect since that 14 SO masterpiece….

I’m traveling for a few days. I promise not to *Schulman* the blog but my participation will be spotty. I will DEFINITELY find a spot to watch this game tonight in Reno……

  5. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 9, 2010 at 4:14 pm

All four balls were struck solidly. His fastball isn’t fooling anyone. His curve on the other hand…

  6. Unca Chuck's avatar Unca Chuck said, on July 9, 2010 at 4:15 pm

Irish, looking at the 1st, it sure looks like they are driving the ball vs Strasburg.

I guess Matty tried to stop mid-throw or something and just lost the grip.

Cain either had to much Lester Hayes stick em,or Gaylord Perry’s grease ball.

Snarkk, you must not have the MLB package. Weird stuff happens all over the league.
The Met shortstop just booted a routine grounder to give the Braves a run.

Effing Furcal hit a homer last night to give the Dodgers the win. Nobody’s getting that guy out these days.

You wanna win every game but I kind of took this one off the W/L ledger to just watch Strasburg and enjoy fine baseball on a Summer late afternoon- either way. With that out of the way, let’s beat the honky cocksucker…

  20. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 9, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Yeah, his curve and change are his best two pitches. Sit on the damn fb is possible.
The one’s that don’t go straight are eliciting some silly swing from our batters.

  21. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 9, 2010 at 4:54 pm

90 mph change is really funny when ya think about it.

  22. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 9, 2010 at 4:54 pm

He’s on pace to only go 6. If Matt holds them here, we’ll win this.

  23. Unca Chuck's avatar Unca Chuck said, on July 9, 2010 at 4:56 pm

Yeah, sit on the FB, and you have a chance. CU and curve are pretty damn incredible.

Strasburg’s been eating his special K’s. But 73 pitches in four innings would make seven innings a stretch.

  38. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on July 9, 2010 at 5:12 pm

There’s not many pitches that Pablo can lay off of Snarkk. His bat will probably get slower once Mama fattens him up more during the A/S break.

  41. zumarust's avatar zumarust said, on July 9, 2010 at 5:21 pm

  45. zumarust's avatar zumarust said, on July 9, 2010 at 5:25 pm

The thing that kept messing up Torres’ career the last couple of seasons were muscle pulls or hamstring pulls. I guess we’ll find out pretty soon on this one.

  51. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on July 9, 2010 at 5:44 pm

Strasburg slipped through the 6th pretty efficiently. Just under 100 pitches, so there will be little time to feast on the Nats BP. And its NOT an NLC pen.

  52. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 9, 2010 at 5:44 pm

We might have allowed another inning for SS with that quick inning. He’s just north of 90, might see him start the 7th.

  53. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 9, 2010 at 5:51 pm

That pitch thing is a bit of a Catch-22. The way to get this guy is early in the count.

  54. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 9, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Don’t think it’s gonna matter one bit of difference now. That 2-out, 2-run single was a killer.
Jesus, they just won’t allow that kid to throw a 100. I’ve heard of protecting your investment, but come on…

  55. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on July 9, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Just more shit breaks for Cain.Pass ball.,tight strike zone, flare hit for 2 runs.No excuse walking Kennedy though ,total ownage 1-14 and he walks him to set up 2 runs.

  57. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:02 pm

Getting hard to believe that Pablo is gonna snap outta it any time soon. Getting to the point where you think beyond this being a sophomore slump and last year being the aberration.

  58. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:03 pm

Posey should be batting third, Ishikawa sixth and Huff in cleanup.

    Shit, if there’s one thig that’s killed Cains it’s the 0-2, 1-2 hits he’s consistently gibven up . . .

  60. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:18 pm

Exactly. I’m sure Cain and Rags view the videos, but WTF is Cain doing throwing a hit me cripple belt high down the middle when he’s ahead with 2 strikes? He does that way too often this year. And Posey gave him a mid plate target. This aint Fresno…

  61. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Once again , however, Cain fails to step up as a guy of his caliber is supposed to.

  62. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Add another one right there, Chuck. Jesus Christ. Call of the dogs. Dirty needs to drill Dunn tomorrow first at-bat.

  63. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:24 pm

Bochy won’t let Zito get a 3rd out up 6-1 for a win,but will let Cain get hammered 7-1 and still let him try and get a 3rd out?Just sayin….

  64. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:25 pm

The “however” wasn’t needed. Hadn’t read the other comments. Fucking around with a guy who was 1 for 12 against him was the start.

  65. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:25 pm

Do we want to lose a game to the Friars or Rocks tonight? Not expecting any help from the Cubbies with Lilly on the mound. Turning into a real shitty Friday night.

  66. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:26 pm

Kat, there is zero fucking comparison in the situations.
A Zito apologist is the lowest form of life… “Just sayin'”

  67. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:31 pm

Cain started out the season well. He was unhittable for a stretch and yeah, he’s a “horse”. Fine. But, I think he’s proven over the last coupla seasons to be somewhat lless than originally advertised. He’s an unalterably high in the zone pitcher, susceptible to the long ball. And WTF was that wacky error tonite? Maybe the chronic lack of run support gets him down, but for whatever reason, these last coupla innings are just typical — the 2 strike hits, the HRs. He has too many lapses in concentration that he shouldn’t at his experience and pay grade…

  68. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on July 9, 2010 at 6:33 pm

All i’m saying is Lincecum or Cain could have thrown 113 pitches like Zito did, look like shit and Bochy would have allowed either one to stay in there get to that win, guaranteed.

I mention it only because of the disparity between the impression someone like Sanchez leaves with “watchers” like you, and the reality of the performance. Kinda like Fred Lewis.

Matt Cain had 4 more innings pitched than Zito and Lincecum, 14 more than Sanchez through 17 starts. FP, another watcher whose impressions clash with reality.
