A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Nice Start

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 16, 2010

Lovely game last night, wasn’t it? It was +130 lovely for me. As I suspected, Timmy mowed down that line up. Now we turn to our mercurial master of mediocrity, Zit-Man. He needs to step it up. He’s got ONE WIN since May 16th. That’s just not cool. Niese is his opponent and he’s a guy who’s sort of turn4ed a corner, IMO, over the last several weeks.  I suspect we finally see Torres back tonight, at least I hope so.

We’re -130 tonight. Ugh, who would take that bet? Let’s just pray to God that Zito goes 6 or whatever and staggers to the dugout with a 5-3 lead….

His “pace” over a full season is just 16 HR-but 48 doubles, 120 RBI. Not exactly punch ‘n Snarkkle, MAX.

And we should all be thankful that Latos is out. Think whatever SD had going, it’s about to change.

I’m throwin a bone tonite, oh FOS one. I said about 10 days ago that Bonehead wouldn’t start Ishi for very long. So, we’ll see if he keeps starting against RHs. Bochy isn’t over his vet love by a long shot. Ishi flailed a last night against the knuckler, and Bochy has a very short leash when the young ones start to flail….

Anyway, I put the LU bashing posts in the blogticulator. These are the levels of approval, and the W-L record with each:
    The worst ever: 11-8
    Strongly disapprove: 11-9
    Not the worst: 20-18
    OK, but: 3-3
    Pretty good: 3-3

Ishikawa should get a shot at lefties as long as it’s at home. Let the leesh out or tighten it from there. And panda hit lefties fine last yr. If he’s going to get it going it would be perfectly fine to have him get it going against a lefty , pitchers he hit fine last yr (I don’t have his 2009 splits in front of me to quote them)

Well, tonite’s certainly not the worst ever. The entire 2008 season had plenty of LUs qualified for nomination in that category. I’ll go with “strongly disapprove”. Coupled with Zito goin’, the -130 sounds about right. If we win, I’ll give it the category “like finding a $20 bill in the pocket of an old suit”…

From Baggs:” Bochy said before yesterday’s game that Sandoval was scheduled for a day off today”

What the hell did they have him doing during the ASB, capping the oil leak? Ridiculous.

  9. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 16, 2010 at 5:33 pm

Has anybody ever seen Panda hit LHed against lefties? In the minors? Any stats? Why not just try him LH batting all the way for a while? I have no idea if that might/might not screw up his LH swing, which is the only thing keeping him afloat right now…

  10. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 16, 2010 at 5:35 pm

DMD, I hope Sando didn’t cap that oil well RHed….

  12. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 16, 2010 at 5:45 pm

I don’t see that Panda has ever tried batting LH against a LHer. Career minor league he is .267 against LHers, .324 against RHers. He’s had one year where he hit just .200 against LHers ( 2006). In 2008 he hit .404 against RHers, .243 against lefties. So it’s obvious he struggles against southpaws.

OK, thanks for the info, they must have they’re reasons for not going lefty vs. lefty. I keep hearing these guys calling on talk radio saying they’re eye doctors and that the huge discrepancy of RH vs LH Panda performance is an unmistakable sign of some kind of eyesight issue…

I like that line up better. Renteria can’t hit shit anymore but he does dribble singles out there now and again. And if he’s flailing away at least he’s not hitting next to Rowand. Panda in the game; I can dig it….
