A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Game 1 Goes to the Good Guys

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 20, 2010

I still don’t have the hate for the Dodgers burning deep within me the way it did in the 70’s and 80’s– but last night was sweet. Casey Blake looks like a tired, old woman at the plate. Who doesn’t *love* that?

Bumgarner looks like he’s 28 years old on the mound…..

And thank God for Buster Posey. If he doesn’t muscle that single into center field who knows how long the team would have been second guessing themselves……

Just a huge win all the way around, especially on the heels of the Sunday game blown by that idiot Cuzzi. What the hell was up with his comments *explaining* his call?  “Blanco made a decent attempt to put the tag on him…that’s why I called him out.” Whhhhhaaaatttttt the HELLLLLLLLL is this dumbass talking about?

Buster should’ve been up from the start, period. But is it a surprise that the Giants went with the older, more experienced vet, even if he’s over the hill? No, that’s what they’ve been doing for years. Sometimes I wonder if the front office still thinks Bonds is on the team and won’t play with youth around him.

When I saw yesterday’s lineup, I was thrilled as it was the lineup I wanted to see months ago. (Now that Burrell is here and doing well, I don’t mind seeing him over Nate against lefties and/or in smaller yards when defense isn’t as needed.) All hail the youth movement. It’s about f-ing time.

    This lineup blows:

    Torres-RF
    Franchez-2B
    Buster-C
    Pat-LF
    Panda-1B
    Uribe-3B
    Rent-SS
    Rowand-CF
    Timmy-P

Obviously Posey benefited from the 2 months in Fresno working very closely with Decker. Decker himself said Posey was on a steep learning curve, but picked up things quickly.

As for Bumgarner, he had a lousy ST and was roughed up in his first few starts in Fresno. Clearly he benefited from being in the minors to begin the season.

    • 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:10 pm

Decker might have helped a little, but had they not resigned big tit, he would have learned and acceled at the major league level.

Bum needed to straighten things out in Fresno, no doubt, but he should have been in the bigs a month earlier.

It’s the righty lefty thing Dennis. You shouldn’t be surprised.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:19 pm

I’m not surprised max. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Right-handers aren’t hitting Kershaw much better than lefties this yr., it’s negligible quite frankly. Very disappointed in tonight’s lineup.

  9. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:12 pm

Rent and Rowand combined 0-8 vs Kershaw. Huff and Nate 3-6 with 2 doubles.
Lefties OPS vs Kershaw this yr. .611; right-handers .633 BFD.

  10. 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:13 pm

I don’t care if Rownd hits, right, left or upside down. Unless they’re showcasing him for a trade (how awesome would that be, but regrettably not reasonable) he should be riding pine only to see the plate for pinch hitting.

  11. dirtnrocksnreno's avatar dirtnrocksnreno said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:13 pm

I agree that it was BS to bring Molina back and hold off on Posey. I am just saying I’m impressed with his skill back there. It is on the pitchers to thow their pitch and be 100 percent behind it. I’ve seen more curve balls from Cain and Lincecum though with Posey catching. That is a very effective pitch for both of then that they seemed to get away from.

Snarkk is spot on though. Dude kicks ass over Molina in all aspects. Except whinning.

3Bag, Rohand in the LU tonite was very predictable due to the LHer going on the bump. And, Rent gets thrown in for shits and giggles. Why? Don’t even look at stats. Bonehead figures he can get away with DMD’s “utter horseshit” LU with the big contracts because Timmy’s goin’. Simple. So unless this LU catches lightning in a bottle, Timmy knows he has to work his ass off to get a win. Anybody that thinks Ishi gets to start against LHs just because he’s en fuego the last fortnight hasn’t watched Bonehead manage the past two seasons. Besides, showcasing Ishi for a trade might get devalued a bit if he’s seen to struggle against good lefties…

That’s why he’s not starting, fuckwad. Xoot pointed up his decent average against LHers (.269), he neglected to add that he just doesn’t drive the ball against LHers yet ( one extra base hit career). I’ve discussed this before, pay attention. And this is as much about geting Burrell at bats as it is Rowand. EIGHT position players make up a LU, it’s not just about your pet project or whipping boy. Pick your bone with Bochy, he obviously has little confidence in Ishi against lefties, even in the middle of Ishi’s best hitting since he’s been with the big club…

    3bagger,

Yup, she was born and raised in Studio City, grew up listening to Vin Scully call games. Believe it or not, her baseball acumen was one of the things we had in common and that attracted me to her (in spite of her loyalty to the Blue Meanies), and we managed to work around the whole rivalry thing. You’ve seen couples like us at Giants games; they always show one of two during the broadcast, one in Giants gear, the other Dodgers. I like to say we have a mixed marriage. 😀

Like I said before though, even sitting in Dodger Stadium and watching the Dodgers beat someone other than the G’s drives me nuts, and I’ve paid for my less than gentlemanly behavior a couple of times now. 😀 Now we satisfy our baseball lust going to Mariners and minor league games. You find a way to make it work!

    • 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:49 pm

Very nice. Lucky for me, the A’s/Giants thing is pretty easy. We dress our toddler in mixed gear for the interleague games and switch between the A’s and Giants broadcasts depending on which team is batting. It may seem childish, but it works.

  26. 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:46 pm

I will bash Molina (and not take my cookie), but not for his play through last year. I think he did a great job being forced to bat cleanup in an anemic lineup and did a fine job with the pitchers.

What pisses me off was his attitude ever since they drafted Posey. He was threatened from day one when he made comments about Sabean picking a catcher. Then Posey signs and shows up in the stands at a game in AZ, Molina hits a home run and feels the need to pop his jersey at the young guy. WTF was that? Grow up for god’s sake. Then he bitches and whines about ESPN’s fat joke. Hey fat man…you’re fat! If it bothers you, do something about it!

As good as Molina was for his first few years he was a Giant, he really lost respect in my eyes when he showed his immaturity. Posey shows more poise and class at 23.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Buster is better than Bengie. Bengie has been a repeated whiner, even when Sabes shoveled cash at him when only the Mets were in the FA mix. Both perfectly observable and factual. If that’s trashing, give me a garbage truck …

  27. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:48 pm

Since they’ve spotted him, Rowand has hit pretty well-over .300 the last month. Nobody hits Kershaw real well but lefties are .179 against him. It makes total sense to load the LU with right handed bats.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:58 pm

No, it does not make any sense to load the LU with right-handed bats tonight. Especially the ones we’re “loading up” with tonight. Rowand and Renteria combined 0-8 vs Kershaw. Huff and Nate 3 for 6 w/ 2 doubles. How the fuck is that better? Lefties have 3 homers off Kershaw in 95 ABs; 4 for RH in 329 ABs. LH OPS vs Kershaw .611 RH .633 Big whoop. This fucking lineup blows and you know it.

  28. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 20, 2010 at 4:51 pm

I saw the Ishi shit coming, but where the fuck is the Huffster? Our unquestioned first-half MVP, co-MVP w/ Torres at worst, why the hell isn’t he in the lineup? Plays 5 games post break and now he needs a rest? Bullshit. The only reason he should sit is for an injury, and unless he slipped in the shower this morning, he seemed OK last night. Fucking horseshit is what it is. Pure and simple horseshit.

And Huff can go back to 1B on a regular basis the rest of this year if Ishi gets shipped off, opening up the OF space for a new OFer. Makes sense…

Have no idea what that word means, but it’s got “dumb” in it, so it must be fitting.

    “Where’s Aubrey?”

He and Maturin were up late drinking last night.

With all the early hoopla about Heyward on the Braves early on, he’s only got 40-odd RBIs with a .257 BA. Kid may be good but i can think of a much better ROY candidate, one who’s been tearing up the league ever since he took over his position.

    And Aubrey was his name
A not so very ordinary batter or a name
    But who’s to blame?…

Did you find his diary underneath a tree?

Agree Zumie, Sanchez’s Defense has been great. But his driving the ball to gaps and occasional muscle up HR are sure lacking. He used to be solid at that with Pittsburgh, but certainly not now. He’s turned into our version of Eckstein now.

According to recent pieces in MLBTR, both Washington on Willingham and K.C. on DeJesus are playing hard to get right now. One of those two should be prospect-package trade objective #2 right after a steady seventh inning RP. They both are available, i’m sure, but both of those teams are playing it coy, hoping to make a haul. If Giants get either or them, i would expect that either Nate or Bowker would be included in the package as fast-food replacements.

Anybody wish we just brought up Tyler Graham over Velez. The kid plays solid defense in the OF over Pharaoh which doesn’t take much.Is just as fast and not as dumb.Has a nice OBP of .385 as well.

Just looking at batting averages- the Dodger lineup isn’t all THAT impressive tonight. But naturally Martin will get 3 hits with his .249 average.

Mama told me there’d be games like these. Good thing we gave our O-line up going tonight…. Ya never know, that was just one inning

Wow, that really sucked. . . DP, walk, double, HR.

At least there’s time to catch up . . .

Talk about digging a hole! Hate on Casey Blake all you want, but Furball is the new Penguin. Baggs’ blogosphere boys are totally ballistic about tonight’s LU. Hope it wasn’t the lineup that gave Timmy indigestion.
