Game 1 Goes to the Good Guys
I still don’t have the hate for the Dodgers burning deep within me the way it did in the 70’s and 80’s– but last night was sweet. Casey Blake looks like a tired, old woman at the plate. Who doesn’t *love* that?
Bumgarner looks like he’s 28 years old on the mound…..
And thank God for Buster Posey. If he doesn’t muscle that single into center field who knows how long the team would have been second guessing themselves……
Just a huge win all the way around, especially on the heels of the Sunday game blown by that idiot Cuzzi. What the hell was up with his comments *explaining* his call? “Blanco made a decent attempt to put the tag on him…that’s why I called him out.” Whhhhhaaaatttttt the HELLLLLLLLL is this dumbass talking about?
Great minds thinking alike, Chuck…
Buster should’ve been up from the start, period. But is it a surprise that the Giants went with the older, more experienced vet, even if he’s over the hill? No, that’s what they’ve been doing for years. Sometimes I wonder if the front office still thinks Bonds is on the team and won’t play with youth around him.
When I saw yesterday’s lineup, I was thrilled as it was the lineup I wanted to see months ago. (Now that Burrell is here and doing well, I don’t mind seeing him over Nate against lefties and/or in smaller yards when defense isn’t as needed.) All hail the youth movement. It’s about f-ing time.
This lineup blows:
Torres-RF
Franchez-2B
Buster-C
Pat-LF
Panda-1B
Uribe-3B
Rent-SS
Rowand-CF
Timmy-P
WTF does Huff need a day off? 5 games post break and he sits? Tonight’s lineup is utter horseshit..
No Huff? The guy has only been the best clutch hitter throughout the season! Does he really need a rest a week after the ASG?
Dennis, like Chuck and Snarkk, great minds…
Obviously Posey benefited from the 2 months in Fresno working very closely with Decker. Decker himself said Posey was on a steep learning curve, but picked up things quickly.
As for Bumgarner, he had a lousy ST and was roughed up in his first few starts in Fresno. Clearly he benefited from being in the minors to begin the season.
Decker might have helped a little, but had they not resigned big tit, he would have learned and acceled at the major league level.
Bum needed to straighten things out in Fresno, no doubt, but he should have been in the bigs a month earlier.
It’s the righty lefty thing Dennis. You shouldn’t be surprised.
I’m not surprised max. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Right-handers aren’t hitting Kershaw much better than lefties this yr., it’s negligible quite frankly. Very disappointed in tonight’s lineup.
Rent and Rowand combined 0-8 vs Kershaw. Huff and Nate 3-6 with 2 doubles.
Lefties OPS vs Kershaw this yr. .611; right-handers .633 BFD.
I don’t care if Rownd hits, right, left or upside down. Unless they’re showcasing him for a trade (how awesome would that be, but regrettably not reasonable) he should be riding pine only to see the plate for pinch hitting.
I agree that it was BS to bring Molina back and hold off on Posey. I am just saying I’m impressed with his skill back there. It is on the pitchers to thow their pitch and be 100 percent behind it. I’ve seen more curve balls from Cain and Lincecum though with Posey catching. That is a very effective pitch for both of then that they seemed to get away from.
Snarkk is spot on though. Dude kicks ass over Molina in all aspects. Except whinning.
I’ll buy a cookie for the first idiot that can praise Posey without having to trash Molina
3bag, conjecture all the way. We’ll never know.
Ted, I’m not trashing Molina. I wish him well but dude was a fucking whinner. Its a fact.
I wasn’t just addressing you, reno. And not to be elitist but since you did it twice, it’s “whiner”. And I’m not sure about him being a whiner. Except for the slo-mo video showing him rounding the bases, I never heard him bitch. I heard or read everyone else saying how “sensitive” he is but I never saw him bitch myself. But maybe I just missed it
Renteria/rowand— these 2 chumps shouldn’t ever be in the same line up together much less back to back
3Bag, Rohand in the LU tonite was very predictable due to the LHer going on the bump. And, Rent gets thrown in for shits and giggles. Why? Don’t even look at stats. Bonehead figures he can get away with DMD’s “utter horseshit” LU with the big contracts because Timmy’s goin’. Simple. So unless this LU catches lightning in a bottle, Timmy knows he has to work his ass off to get a win. Anybody that thinks Ishi gets to start against LHs just because he’s en fuego the last fortnight hasn’t watched Bonehead manage the past two seasons. Besides, showcasing Ishi for a trade might get devalued a bit if he’s seen to struggle against good lefties…
Posey looks headed for a stellar career. Bengie is a nice guy. I’ll take chocolate chip, please…
With or without nuts?
Leave Oracle out of it…
“I’ll buy a cookie for the first idiot that can praise Posey without having to trash Molina”
Never happen-they’re idiots…
Snarkk would bend over for a cookie, hell he’d bend over for a cracker…
Ted, i never trashed Molina. I think he did a great job in his time here. This year? Well, I think they could have done it without him.
The Dodgers have placed OF Manny Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained calf and activated C Brad Ausmus from the DL.
I think he strained his calf from laughing too hard when seeing our lineup tonight.
Twin playing the race card??
“if he’s seen to struggle against good lefties…”
That’s why he’s not starting, fuckwad. Xoot pointed up his decent average against LHers (.269), he neglected to add that he just doesn’t drive the ball against LHers yet ( one extra base hit career). I’ve discussed this before, pay attention. And this is as much about geting Burrell at bats as it is Rowand. EIGHT position players make up a LU, it’s not just about your pet project or whipping boy. The LU bashing is the most idiotic thread here EVER. Get over it.
Tell me if you were the manager this would be the lineup you’d trot out there and I’ll stop bashing it.
I said yesterday Ishi was 2 for 9 against LHs this season, hardly a sample size big enough not to start him against LHs in a hot streak. Look it up. Pick your bone with Bochy, he obviously has little confidence in Ishi against lefties, even in the middle of Ishi’s best hitting since he’s been with the big club…
3bagger,
Yup, she was born and raised in Studio City, grew up listening to Vin Scully call games. Believe it or not, her baseball acumen was one of the things we had in common and that attracted me to her (in spite of her loyalty to the Blue Meanies), and we managed to work around the whole rivalry thing. You’ve seen couples like us at Giants games; they always show one of two during the broadcast, one in Giants gear, the other Dodgers. I like to say we have a mixed marriage. 😀
Like I said before though, even sitting in Dodger Stadium and watching the Dodgers beat someone other than the G’s drives me nuts, and I’ve paid for my less than gentlemanly behavior a couple of times now. 😀 Now we satisfy our baseball lust going to Mariners and minor league games. You find a way to make it work!
Very nice. Lucky for me, the A’s/Giants thing is pretty easy. We dress our toddler in mixed gear for the interleague games and switch between the A’s and Giants broadcasts depending on which team is batting. It may seem childish, but it works.
I will bash Molina (and not take my cookie), but not for his play through last year. I think he did a great job being forced to bat cleanup in an anemic lineup and did a fine job with the pitchers.
What pisses me off was his attitude ever since they drafted Posey. He was threatened from day one when he made comments about Sabean picking a catcher. Then Posey signs and shows up in the stands at a game in AZ, Molina hits a home run and feels the need to pop his jersey at the young guy. WTF was that? Grow up for god’s sake. Then he bitches and whines about ESPN’s fat joke. Hey fat man…you’re fat! If it bothers you, do something about it!
As good as Molina was for his first few years he was a Giant, he really lost respect in my eyes when he showed his immaturity. Posey shows more poise and class at 23.
Buster is better than Bengie. Bengie has been a repeated whiner, even when Sabes shoveled cash at him when only the Mets were in the FA mix. Both perfectly observable and factual. If that’s trashing, give me a garbage truck …
Since they’ve spotted him, Rowand has hit pretty well-over .300 the last month. Nobody hits Kershaw real well but lefties are .179 against him. It makes total sense to load the LU with right handed bats.
No, it does not make any sense to load the LU with right-handed bats tonight. Especially the ones we’re “loading up” with tonight. Rowand and Renteria combined 0-8 vs Kershaw. Huff and Nate 3 for 6 w/ 2 doubles. How the fuck is that better? Lefties have 3 homers off Kershaw in 95 ABs; 4 for RH in 329 ABs. LH OPS vs Kershaw .611 RH .633 Big whoop. This fucking lineup blows and you know it.
I saw the Ishi shit coming, but where the fuck is the Huffster? Our unquestioned first-half MVP, co-MVP w/ Torres at worst, why the hell isn’t he in the lineup? Plays 5 games post break and now he needs a rest? Bullshit. The only reason he should sit is for an injury, and unless he slipped in the shower this morning, he seemed OK last night. Fucking horseshit is what it is. Pure and simple horseshit.
Beat me to it Dennis.
I’m not as ticked about Rowand being in the lineup as I am about Huff being out of it. I’d take Huff over Rent any day.
I don’t care if a lefty is going. Huff takes the best ABs on the team, regardless of lefty vs. righty. Rohand vs. Huff is no contest as to the choice, at least Rent has a shot at a good AB…
I feel like Nate and Ishi are being SHOWCASED.Any time a team randomly starts playing people right before the deadline,it makes me suspicious.
So I guess Nate and Ishi(top 10 but not top 5 prospect) for DeJesus.
Kat, I’ve said since the Caps series that they’re showcasing Ishi. They’ve got Belt for next year at 1b, he’s got far more pop and .slg potential than Ishi. And Huff can go back to 1B on a regular basis the rest of this year if Ishi gets shipped off, opening up the OF space for a new OFer. Makes sense…
Shut the fuck up and watch the game.. All of you. If the criteria is who has hit Kershaw well, it’s Nate, Pat, and 6 ball dudes. But NOBODY has enough ABs to draw a conclusion, so Bochy did what all smart men do-went with the odds.
As to Bengie, Buster and he have always had a great relationship-according to BOTH. So cut YOUR whining, you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about
Has anyone here had the chance to see Belt play? He’s looking good with the bat and glove in the stats, and he’s built like the prototypical first baseman, tall and lefthanded. I wonder how his swing looks and if he’s athletic.
As far as “showcasing” Ishikawa, of course it’s possible which is why I’ve kept you up to date on Belt’s progress. But snarkklefuck is full of shit on this because according to Snarkwad, there was never anything to showcase.
Today is the b-day of my godson’s little brother…shared with: sweet swinging Tony Oliva, Carlos Santana, director Roberto Rodriguez (loved El Mariachi), the current Mrs. Tom Brady, personal fav Diana Rigg and Sir Edmund Hillary. Taking a series from LA here would represent an Everest like climb for SF, and could be a real springboard for bigger and better things to come.
The Smart Men’s Club just registered a complaint about Bochy’s alleged membership, citing Sunday’s game as irrefutable proof to the contrary…
Irrefutable proof to the contrary?! The Giants win the game with a competent home plate umpire.
Willied, we tend to disagree, but on Diana Rigg, we’re simpatico. Hard to believe she’s well into her ’70s…
Most of you are watching the game and are at your PC simultaneously. Including Snarkk. Next time you have a complaint about a tactical move, get it in before the outcome. Just once.
OK. I’ll ask my bench coach, my first and third base coaches, my batting coach and my pitching coach to type in the complaints ASAP in real time, and I’ll ask Sabes to forward me that $2 million manager’s payroll check tomorrow….
Willied, it’s also Carlos Santana and Chris Cornell’s b-day.
Quite teh big day . . .
dude, santana was second name I mentioned….remember when he was in the booth last year with K and K? fucking hilarious
Diana Rigg and I exchanged a couple E-mails about fly fishing a few years ago, after she talked about it in the Bay Guardian. She’s *mine* as far as this blog is concerned, although I’ll share her with Willie.
If we’re going to start cliaims on female celebrities, I’ve got dibs on Salma Hayak
Go ahead and share Diana with Willie as you guys flog some Copper Johns at some picky rainbows. Meanwhile, I’ll spend some personal time back in the lodge with her 33 year old daughter, Rachael…
Ted, no worries man. I don’t think you’re elitis but you sure do worry about spelling. Are you an editor by trade or does that shit just bugs you in some sort of OCD way? So I don’t spell so good. So what.
Who gives a rats ass about Molina anyway? Dude is gone. Maybe Texas makes the post season and he rides off into the sunset. I could care less. He’ll always be an Angel in my mind. His absence has cleared the way for Posey and the team is playing better. That’s all I am concerned with.
I only mention spelling when I notice the same missssspell on the same word more than once. Nothing personal. Just a dumb pet peeve of mine. I should try to rein it in
Reno, well said re: Bengielena. Uh, as a singular possessive, that is “rat’s ass”, not “rats ass”… 🙂
Oooop. Didn’t see Santana in your post . . .
Where’s Barbara Feldon?
What’s wrong with calling out this shitty LU? Renteria and rowand suck, that’s a fact. %’s or not, we’ve seen this tired act before. I’d like to see what Nate and ishikawa would do against a tough lefty. Hell, I’d like to see what they do against ANY lefty….
Can we stop talking about Molina? He’s fucking gone, goodbye, thanks for the mammaries. Good luck, whatever, we are all MORE happy with our new catcher. On that I would think we could all agree on….
Proper spelling is also essential for trolls and doomorons. If you say “Peter McCowan”, for example, you are fucking DOA. As a cynic and/or intruder, you must be perfect with the “blog peripherals”…
You can do anything you want, it’s your show, Flavor.
Giants are 33-25 when Rowand starts, 18-17 when he doesn’t. His presence doesn’t seem to be a huge downer.
There you go again.
Stupid facts.
😉
Ok, so everybody that wants Rohand to start the next 69 games say “aye”…
Well, let’s not get carried away over here…
what are we when both Renteria and Rowand start and Huff sits? 🙂
Worse…
With all the ragging, it’s only fitting that Aaron and Edgar will come up big tonight.
If Timmy comes up big, doesn’t matter what Aaron and Edgar do. That’s what Boch is bankiin’ on…
I’m not convinced Renteria is done. Rowand on the other hand….I don’t see how Ishikawa can sit for half the season and Rowand gets even a taste. Oh, well. His wife ain’t bad.
Are both will continue their inept play more likely.
Avg. .301 HRs 17 RBI 54 OBP .387 Hits 98
Those are the numbers of the Giants leader in each category. The same man happens to lead each and every one. Where is he in tonight’s lineup vs the Dodgers in this crucial game 2 match up?
“Bochy said Huff would need a blow. This a good nite for it.”
Manager of the Year, where do I cast my ballot?
Hell, I wish my manager would give me a day off for a blow. He *is* manager of the year
Well obviously I hope they do. I’ve got zero problem saying I think this LU sucks. It does, it’s easily our worst one. If they come up big good for us. No major leaguer makes an out 4 times a game every game. But the facts are, the KIDS are the ones driving thus bus. That’s gotta burn bochy’s hide…
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so gay before in my life.

The key to beating Kershaw is being patient and not swinging at stuff out of the strikezone. He is very similar to Jonathan Sanchez. He can go crazy with the walks sometimes. With Huff out of the lineup tonight, we lose one of our most patient hitters. But I’m all for giving guys rest once in a while.
At Least burrell is patient. Lately, the first inning has gone very quickly. I’d like to see torres and franchez do something in the first inning tonight but I doubt it….
Where’s Aubrey?
When did Franchez turn into such a punch and judy hitter? Didn’t he used to hit a bunch of doubles and the occasional homer? If he wasn’t playing such great defense, people would be more down on him.
Padres lose!
About fucking time!
Wagner struck out a guy with a 97 MPH fastball. I didn’t know he could still throw that hard.
With all the hoopla about Strasburgh….Bumgarner could end up the season with more wins.
Dagos are discovering that playing Atlanta is not exactly the same as facing the Snakes. Hope that adumbrated LU is sufficient tonight to give Timmy the backing he needs. Maybe Bochy feels he needs to handicap his team cause the LaBumbos don’t have Manny.
Have no idea what that word means, but it’s got “dumb” in it, so it must be fitting.
“Where’s Aubrey?”
He and Maturin were up late drinking last night.
With all the early hoopla about Heyward on the Braves early on, he’s only got 40-odd RBIs with a .257 BA. Kid may be good but i can think of a much better ROY candidate, one who’s been tearing up the league ever since he took over his position.
And Aubrey was his name
A not so very ordinary batter or a name
But who’s to blame?…
Did you find his diary underneath a tree?
Agree Zumie, Sanchez’s Defense has been great. But his driving the ball to gaps and occasional muscle up HR are sure lacking. He used to be solid at that with Pittsburgh, but certainly not now. He’s turned into our version of Eckstein now.
According to recent pieces in MLBTR, both Washington on Willingham and K.C. on DeJesus are playing hard to get right now. One of those two should be prospect-package trade objective #2 right after a steady seventh inning RP. They both are available, i’m sure, but both of those teams are playing it coy, hoping to make a haul. If Giants get either or them, i would expect that either Nate or Bowker would be included in the package as fast-food replacements.
Anybody wish we just brought up Tyler Graham over Velez. The kid plays solid defense in the OF over Pharaoh which doesn’t take much.Is just as fast and not as dumb.Has a nice OBP of .385 as well.
Just looking at batting averages- the Dodger lineup isn’t all THAT impressive tonight. But naturally Martin will get 3 hits with his .249 average.
Btw- nice article by Jenkins about Jon Miller over the weekend. Interesting article.
And that’s your ballgame.
Thank you for watching Giants baseball tonight. Stay tuned for Sean Hannity interviewing Charles Manson.
Not the start Tim needed. He’s sure battling his control.
Mama told me there’d be games like these. Good thing we gave our O-line up going tonight…. Ya never know, that was just one inning
Wow, that really sucked. . . DP, walk, double, HR.
At least there’s time to catch up . . .
Talk about digging a hole! Hate on Casey Blake all you want, but Furball is the new Penguin. Baggs’ blogosphere boys are totally ballistic about tonight’s LU. Hope it wasn’t the lineup that gave Timmy indigestion.
