A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Snakes up in about an HOUR

I’m not one of the guys afraid of AZ just because they’re playing well right now. We match up very well with them– our strike out pitchers vs their strike out hitters. How about we win 3-1 tonight?

Who wanted to sit Pablo tonight, Snarkk? “Sorry, can’t do it. Wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture.”

The Panda is hitting .475 (28-59) lifetime at Chase Field. Highest avg. amongst ALL players with a min 50 PAs at the park. Pablo plays every inning this 4-game series. Now just see the ball and hit the ball you cute little chubster you.

    This thing on?

    Boy, what’d I miss?

    No more Room B?

    *sniff*

It was the only place I felt truly safe . . .

    wahhhhhhhhhhhhh ! ! ! ! !

Anyhow, so far, a great day in Giants history. The Pads lost, and so did the Rox. . . .

Got to work the road mojo tonight . . .

And get some fricking support for Cain. I’m a bit amazed he hasn’t at least bitched a tiny bit about not geting runs over the years.

I never realized how much Barbara Billingsly looks ike Tim Curry . . .

Panda is 3 for 5 with a HR , 2 doubles, 5 RBI against Rodrigo so let’s hope Bochy doesn’t give him his day off as The Genius suggested. Uribe and Huff have also taken him deep ( twice each) and Velez is 3 for 3 w/3 RBI -great night to sit FreddyWad. As a team, they’re hitting .343 againt him.

BTW, thanks for the contests Mike. I likely wouldn’t have won anyway, but the chance was nice.

I will be happy if they win 89 and reach the playoffs regardless . . .

And, as a frequent fuckwad that earned your ire? Oh well, can’t stand the heat, get out of the blogosphere . . .

      Oustanding.
(Hell, I never bitch about LUs. But I’m a little nervous. Rowand’s been hit by Lopez as well, poor bastard. Lifetime .286 against him as well)

No more Room B? The contest is over? We’re on pace to win 88 games. I was the only one with 88. I think I at least deserve an “atta boy” or a “hang with’em” and most definitely a “thanks for playing and better luck next time.” 😉

  8. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 22, 2010 at 4:08 pm

Rowand is 4 for 14 with 3 doubles against Lopez. Not huge but good. And Baggarly suggests that OF defense was a factor for Cain, a fly ball pitcher. And Travis is .108, 4 for 37 at Chase…

  9. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 22, 2010 at 4:12 pm

Bochy LIKES Travis. It took him about three seconds to sit Fartko against RHers last year. There are reasons for him sitting tonight. There always ARE reasons for the LUs. Suck it up, couch potatoes.

He was the surest bet of the group usually mentioned… with a very consistent OBP, good speed, good defense. As Baggarly notes, good both this year in not being another DP machine, a guy to spread the offense moving FreddyFuck to the 8, and also insurance for Torres next year.

  19. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on July 22, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Brewers’ Bashers? I’ve cooled considerably on both Hart and Fielder. That team is going precisely nowhere this go-round, but if they DID turn down Drrrrty for Hart straight up they are expecting a bit much. Well, maybe Sanchez and a replacement outfielder named Nate, John or Eugenio would have been no big sweat off the sack, but i think that line of thinking is past-tense. Never was too hot about Fielder for more than a week or so much earlier in the season before the team started to jell around Posey.

Baggs’ comments were pretty close to my take last week when he suggested DeJesus would be good in the two-hole, dropping Franchez to 8th. It would only be logical. Personally, i still would slightly prefer Willingham to DeJ., but as their skills are close to a wash, either of them would be fine by me. Reiterating, i think the Giants side of the equation would center on one of Sosa, Mixon or Maday (or even Wheeler if it came to that); one of those three aforementioned outfielders and one of several farmboy infielders who have some prospect status ~ maybe even someone like Hinshaw or Matos if they demanded yet another throw-in ~ Giants have plenty of those. Espineli’s another one. He’s done okay for Fresno lately.

Point is, the Giants have plenty players who are at some level of prospect status and except for Belt and Neal, the team can afford to be fairly generous in helping a struggling organization broaden their base. After all, with the best Rotation in the game and the growingly-probable NL ROY, most of the pieces are already in place for a run at all the marbles for one keen Halloween Machine. An OBP monster, coupled with Torres would put a lot of ducks on the pond.

Dennis, where did you get the info on DeJesus? I’m not doubting you . . . I have him on my fantasy league team and want to know if he is going on the DL or is going to play through this. Thanks.

    DeJesus 12 AB 0 HR 2 RBI .250 BA .774 OPS
These are the most commonly mentioned names. I don’t think DeJesus, Guillen, or Bautista have enough of a sample to make a reasonable guess. Of the others, if you add in what it would take to get him, Willingham is the runaway choice… in fact, by WAR, he and Torres SHOULD have been 2 of the 3 starting All-Star outfielders…

If it’s Sanchez and a prospect or two, it better be reeeeal good. I think Willingham can be had for less than that, one reason he’s my current pick…

I said “3-1” tonight but I feel *better* about the game than that. We’re -131 to win but I took +120 -1.5 runs. 3-1 still gets me there but AZ sucks. I like our position players better than theirs, for the most part, and Cain/our bullpen v chump/their bullpen is a no-contest……

Kelly J has seriously cooled off his hot start. And Steven Drew is pointless (yet he always gets people thinking he’s about to have a big year). LaRoache? Ugh, whatever, uninspiring…..Young? Fine, but he still strikes out a lot. Mark R is a K machine, too. Gerardo Parra makes Nate the Great look like Barry Bonds. Upton is under-performing for the year, though hot recently….

  36. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on July 22, 2010 at 6:35 pm

Twin: We seem to be d’accord re Willingham. I sure hope to think we would not have to give up Sanchez to land him. Washington could get their choice of the 3 near MLB ready starters: plus a replacement outfielder if they desire; plus Burriss if they want the local boy ~ or Rohlinger, Downs, Bond (whomever) should they not and also their choice of any of 2 AAA relievers with MLB experience. Hell, Brett Pill or even Zach Wheeler someplace in the package might tempt em.

Washington may be two years from being a moderately serious contender, depending on what happens with the Braves and Mets in the interim. So i would think that the notion of stockpiling a package of 3-4 guys in various states of readiness for The Show, plus a replacement OF, could appeal to them. Who knows, maybe they would pick Bowker for that slot and he might thrive there.

  37. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 22, 2010 at 6:36 pm

I’m down with trading Sanchez– Bumgarner is better and if we get something decent for him than we improve our offense (hopefully greatly) and we fiddle around with the #5 like everyone else does anyway. Sanchez, Belt and Romo for Fielder. Think they’d do it?

  38. DaddyO's avatar DaddyO said, on July 22, 2010 at 6:36 pm

True, but just going down that list, there are a bunch of guys that Cain can’t make those location mistakes against. They can put up some runs, Matt will have to have that fastball mastery that Kruk preaches on. He’s 4.94 ERA at Chase, 8 HR in 9 starts…. 7-4 Giants

32 pitches for the first inning and Cain has him a lead. I like it. Lopez gave up only the one run on a single following the walk and the SB, but he was run through the sweatbox. Even Franchez quietly contributed in drawing out the pitch count. Cain stays on top of his game with the lead and the G-men should add to that before too long. I love those long ABs early in the game, even if the scoring is limited. The pressure builds from the get-go.

Craig: I’m not certain that Puffdaddy will ‘approach’ forty dingers this year. Belt could be at that level in about 3 years. And if he doesn’t bring it that much with the longball, his OBP, BA, extra bases and SBs should more than make up for it ~ that is if we can judge on the basis of his current trajectory. We already have a broad Giant. I’d like to see a long, tall, lanky one with great athleticism.

Big Flavor hooked on Big Boppers. Understandable. Me, i’d much prefer to see a stellar OBP man with a touch of speed. Posey, Huff and Pablo can drive em in. Further, a trade for Willingham would be less costly in talent out. That way there still may be sufficient talent to land a shortstop like Brignac or a steady RP for the 7th.

  60. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on July 22, 2010 at 7:20 pm

Stix, yes he will hit as many HRs as he has in past years . . . what wont happen is that his RBI total will be waaaaaaaaaaaaay down from past years.

Fielder, who had only seven home runs entering June, socked his league-leading 23rd of the season Monday night off Pittsburgh RHP Jeff Karstens. It also was the 19th bases-empty homer for Fielder, who has 45 RBIs. Whoops, earlier this evening, he just hit his 24th . . . also with no one on.
