Today is the Last Day of the Blog….
At least, it’s the last day for the blog the way it’s presently constructed. I’m looking at the following options and will pick one shortly:
1) throw a shitload of words into the moderator cue. That’s going to limit what we can all post here but it will solve a lot of problems too.
2) have all the comments come to me first for moderation. I do not want this to be the choice, believe me. But I’m considering it.
3) Turn it into a private blog— only users that I allow can post here. Instead of having to ban people I just set it up as private and invite people to be members. Obviously, there are 30-40 hardcore nuts here who would want to keep this place going.
4) disband the blog
5) give it to a specific person. I haven’t talked to him about this yet so I don’t know if he would do it but I think he’d be the perfect person to run the blog….
Simply put, I am tired of this place. It’s not enjoyable for me anymore. I’m tired of all the insults. I’m tired of all the accusations of who’s posting as who or under what veiled handle. I’m tired of all the emails that complain about certain posters or my daily topics. I’m tired of coming up with daily topics every day, or find unique pictures for POTG. You guys might not know it but it takes a fair amount of time to keep this place current, fresh and interesting. I’m tired of going through each thread figuring out who needs to get zapped and who doesn’t–especially on days we win, you would think those would be happy days for Giants fans. I used to have a passion for this but I’m just…tired of all of it…..
I still have great passion for one thing, and that’s being a Giants fan. I think I need to go back to that being the priority instead of managing this place……
Not that it will be the deciding factor, but I might throw a poll up to see which of those 5 options you guys want me to pick…….
Over on Chuck’s blog, I don’t know half the shit I’m talking about. Which is probably twice as much as I know here.

Yeah I’m a little surprised to hear that about Runzler.Man i hope he’s not(or the Giants doc’s are not) forcing his way back to recovery though.
Norman (Reno, Nv)
Is Brandon Belt’s hot streak since his promotion to AA richmond a signal that he’s a legitimate prospect now, or are there still questions about him?
Klaw (1:32 PM)
He was legitimate before – SF made a major change to his stance (got him far more upright) and his hand speed and strength could finally show up in his performance. He’s good enough that if I’m SF I’m hesitant to deal him.
In related news, Dontrell threw a shutout inning in AZ rookie league. Does anyone know why he’s working in the rookie league? Wasn’t he pitching in the bigs earlier this season. Maybe he’s not ready for Fresno, but at least San Jose, right?
Craig, I for one, am glad that Barryforever turned down your offer to run the blog.
Now THAT’S funny. Just blew a vodka tonic through my nose….I mean coffee
More from that chat…
Jason (St Louis)
Is Andres Torres for real? Where did he come from?
Klaw (1:35 PM)
It’s not going to continue into next year, if that’s what you’re asking. I’d like to know why he’s listed at 5’10”, though. I saw him up close when he was in Detroit’s system years ago, and I thought he was the shortest pro player I’d ever seen.
Sorry about the font sizes getting changed around. I’ve been fiddling around with the back end of this thing to come up with as many moderation options as possible. I remembered Max saying the font was too small so I just spent 15 mins in the editing HTML world. If any of you haven’t ever dealt with HTML it’s hardly user friendly. Anyway, I was trying to make YOUR comments bigger and I’ve made some things bigger, maybe the comments, I can’t tell. Anyway, I started something that I probably shouldn’t have started……
I’m out for a few hours, I’ll check back in with you guys some time during the game. I’m hoping to not have to delete any posts upon my return. Is that just a fantasy or could it really happen?
fuck KLAW> He’s the dude who got me off Torres going into this year with his contact rate shit. He didn’t think he was going to do it THIS year and he was wrong, what makes anyone think he’s going to be right about NEXT year?
knew that would get a rise…
From out here, nothing’s changed, Craig . . .
AK, yer questioning the Giants crack medical staff?
Shit, if Runzler’s knee (ankle?) still hurt, he wouldn’t be able to do anything . . .
You can’t have a leg injury and remotely pitch anywhere near up to speed.
Well, Craig, I think our display name font size changed?
I told you they should have picked up a 4th LF reliever last winter just in case Hinshaw bombed, Affeldt was ineffective and later hurt, and Runzler had to bat and injured his knee! Fucking idiot Sabean!
YEAH!!
who can believe that guy??
And LH started hitting above .200 vs. Romo. But, yeah, now you’re talking my language. Like Sabean acquired all the hitting we needed by Feb. . . .
Watch live Giants BP here: http://tinyurl.com/269gjz4
Does anyone think Pablo would look like an Ewok if he had a full beard? A very large Ewok, but an Ewok nonetheless.
I have waited my whole life to have a woman think ewok when thinking of me.
freakin’ pablo
:))
Just a touch odd there, my friend
I guess all women are odd, eh Ted?
J/K
but you must love ewoks, right?
A touch? I’d say full-on gonzo weird . . .
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro . . .
Chuck – One of my favs from Hunter
wow, comcast BP broadcast, do they do this every game?
thanks dennis
Willie McCovey made his major league debut 51 years ago today . . .
4-4 with 2 triples vs Philadelphia.
Robin Roberts IIRC . . .
Course, it was 2 yers before I was born, so I may not recall correctly.
STADIUM
how hard is it to get into BP as a ticket holder?
edd, they usually open the gates when the Giaints are half-way through BP. You see the final round of BP and everyone who has already batted (pitchers included) is out in the field, talking, fooling around, fielding. Very rarely they open the gates earlier, never know why; they also sometimes open late, again, a mysterey. The giants website will tell you each day when they intend to open the gates.
I recommend BP, down by the 3B wall.
The Chronicle today compared McCovey and Posey’s rookie numbers after 52 games. Except for HRs, naturally, they’re eerily close:
Mac, age 21, AB) 192; H) 68;2B) 9;HR) 13; RBI) 38; BA) .354
Posey, age 23, AB) 193; H) 69; 2B) 9; HR) 8; RBI) 34; BA) .358
wow
Did you see McCovey’s comments about how the HRs will come to rookies who have an opposite field approach. Very positive that there’s more power to come.
The Mays bio, which I am informally prohibited from citing here again, says Mays was always told (notably by Leo Durocher) to go opposite field for average and especially when slumping. He’d do that and go on a tear, including, somewhat ironically, more homers. Wonder if he’d have 680-700 HRs and a lower average if he ignored said advice. We’ll never know, of course.
Guess the Chronicle saw this 48 hours ago:

Interesting to compare Buster’s numbers so far this year to McCovey’s ROTY season (1959).
We’re not booing; we’re saying, “Loooooooooooooooooo.”
The trading deadline is a morose spectacle of specious hopes and greed. Yanks get Berkman? Westbrook to Cards? Nats trade Capps and Guzman? The strong get stronger; the weak get weaker. Social Darwinism a la mode. (And Roy “Overpriced” Oswalt is losing. He looked terrible in Pittsburgh by the way.)
He’s had some early success with it but Posey will never have significant HR totals with SF if his current splits don’t change. He’s only hit 1 HR to LF. No one, including McCovey, knows how he will adjust as pitchers stop throwing him ouside fastballs. Thus far, he’s shown only a tendency to hit the Rowand grounder in the 56 pocket when pulling the ball. But he IS a good looking American kid.
Also interesting to remember is the numbers for McCovey covered his *entire* rookie season. It *was* only 52 games (but still good enough for RoY)
The Nats told everybody that they had to have Edwin Jackson or they wouldn’t trade Dunn. So the WSox made the deal for Jackson, then try to complete the deal with Washington and the Nats say, well, they aren’t so sure about Jackson now… in unrelated news, Kenny Williams is said to be taking out a gun permit…
Ehire Adrianza for Bautista. Pull the trigger.
Baggs just tweeted: Interesting to note that Giants 1B prospect Brandon Belt, who’s been ripping up the minors, is in LF for 2nd consec. night at AA Richmond.
I sure the hell hope that isn’t a showcase job.
I think I saw a showcase job in Amsterdam in 1973, but it’s hard to say because I was miles away from sober, which sounds like a good country song title.
Dennis, it might mean that he’s the OF bat for HERE.
I like your answer better.
Good call Twin. And, why the hell not? We still have time to trade after the deadline (unless we grab 1st and even then it’s just the waiver game).
Devil rays just beat the Yankees 3-2. Only one out.
Rosenthal and Morosi cite we’ve had “extensive conversations” with the Jays. Downs or Bautista?
Why screw around, let’s get both.
Beat LA! Beat LA! Beat LA!
It’s Orange Friday. We’re undefeated on those days and in our orange jerseys overall.
No way in hell on God’s green Earth can we lose tonight. Book it! BEAT LA!
where’s the justin.tv feed?; not on kostaz003 or woopdedoodle
Bozo….You want the player/s to be eligible for the playoffs. So you have to make the trades now or tomorrow before midnight EST.I believe? Oh and BTW Fuck the Dodgers!! Sweep their Asses and they will be done!
My understanding is: deadline is 1 p.m. PDT Saturday for interleague trades not requiring waivers; I believe the playoff eligibility is end of August.
I think you’re right Pawlie. That’s my understanding at least.
Why would a guy with an 0-2 count not swing at a belt-high fastball right down the middle?
He was guessing breaking pitch.
BF – the blog is a great forum. My issue, and why I have stopped being active (music to many of your ears), is because half the time the blog isn’t about ‘baseball’ talk, it’s about certain posters who have a, shall I say, strong intolerance/dislike towards others regardless of what gets posted or what context its posted in.
I, like everyone else, has opinions, but they are only that. A big reason I minimized even trying to contribute is because of the way the responses were posted. As in, ‘shut up you stupid fuckwad, your mother is a tit sucking hoar’. That not only polarizes the conversation, but is just boring to listen to…ad nauseum. And unfortunately it can’t be ignored since it is a constant attack. So really, why waste the breath?
I would love a forum to just talk baseball, and if you don’t agree with my assessment of Bochy as a manager or other, so be it. Well, here we are, atomic overdrive, and I wasn’t even the cataylst for the latest salvo so obviously this isn’t an isolated occurrence.
I’m not sure what happened over the last few days since like Snaark, been travelling, but it’s unfortunate you can’t just have civil discourses over the one thing we all have in common – love of the Giants.
I hope you don’t shut the blog down, your efforts are appreciated. I just hope the blog becomes someplace a fan can come and share his enthusiasm and vent his frustrations…about the team. Nothing more, nothing less…
I’ll go with that theory Pawlie,I just remember it always being July31st to be eligible for post season. So i guess i’m wrong.
Dream on…
Let’s get it back Giants
OOOOOOOOO-REEEEEEEEEEEEE-BAY!
Juan Gone – Again
I hate that little fuck, Furcal. Fucking Timmy just groooooved that one.
God dammit.
Juan is already +2 for the evening. Get your shit together haircut boy.
Thank you Ishi. Now let’s get that run back, hell let’s tack on three or four.
Let’s put up a huge number. I’m thinking lucky 13 looks nice
Fortunate to be down only one.Tim over 60 pitches in 3.Not a good sign.
Lincecum changed his wind up. Brings his hands over his head at start, ala Barry Zito.
Can anyone here say that Timmy’s problem is not for real? He has been wilder than EVER before this year. It’s obvious that something is wrong. I guess it’s a testament to his stuff that he has 10 wins. Maybe too many blunts?
That fuck Montaserios can be had and not just because Franchez got a hit. He’s a chump!
Wow . . . nice by Andres
Make e’m pay . ..
Take this Mantessori to school . . .
HUFFSTER!!!!
AH…that’s better than a W
Lucky for us blue called that 3-1 pitch a strike. Mad Aubrey mad.
Yeah, baby!!
You don’t give the walk,Well fine i’ll just rip one off the arch way!!!! Huffster!!!!
OK Tim Tim. Get yer shit together and shut ;em down . . .
Ok, got the message, Flav.
Podsednik has been a Dodger for all of three days and I already can’t stand ’em.
Furball is out!
Yeah you POS Furcal..Eat some dirt!
That’s still punishable by hanging in the state of Texas. Stoopid fuck Furcal.
I love it when the other team makes the last out at 3rd…
That was a bomb by Huff.
I’m coming way late to this development, but BF, I hope you can find a way to keep things going. I don’t know much I contribute, but one thing I do know is that this is the first time I can remember in my life where I’ve been able to interact with so many Giants fans who feel the same way about the team as I do. It’s a deep passion, and everyone here has it.
That’s awesome and it’s the best place on the web for Giants fans. I’ve been following the team from afar since I moved from CA when I was a kid, and this blog and newer technologies like Gameday make that a hell of a lot easier.
Maybe a paid membership would work? That might weed out some people if that’s what you’re looking to do. I know I’d be willing to chip in. Just a thought.
amen to ‘grafs 1 and 2
Can’t believe that Furcal would go Velez at that moment.
That’s true Dennis. But hard not to like his wife Lisa.
Eh. I’ve had better
They’re making that worse than it was. The odds of Huff,Sanchez, and Sandoval all making a perfect play are reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal low.
OSF…Yeah your right Tim has not been the same pitcher.Velocity up and down alot down more then usual.Fighting blisters alot.Note to Tim on the blister problem maybe use a roach clip more.
I’ve come up with a couple of things. I’ll detail it tomorrow. Some impact on you guys but for the most part the blog will remain in tact.
Very cool
kewl — I think [I hate that spelling of cool] . . . more porn, right?
and “intact” is onefucknword, Magnus Pym [he’s the protagonist of John Le Carre’s “A Perfect Spy,” concerning which in 2006 I got to talk to the author via BBC; it’s on their website somewhere; but I digress]
How’s the game? I’ve literally been working; when the hourly rate is good and they pay, I work, don’t play.
pawlie…it’s on atdhe.net
is it as easy as justin.tv? or Justin Bieber?
easier…scroll down and click
You got Bieber fever?
Sad to hear the blog is over.
DaddyO, live in the NOW (no other way). The blog exists at this moment. Om. Aum. Whatever.
That martin hopper he got
