A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Complaint Dept is “CLOSED”

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 4, 2010

Anyone got anything to bitch about? Wanna get something off your chest about this team? Detail all of Bochy’s shotcomings? Bash the line up? (cause you just freaking KNOW that Whitey’s gonna be in there today)……

Well, Freddy Sanchez, god bless him, proved to me that he can, in fact, hit a ball farther than 200 feet. Although that could have just been the thin air in Denver so the jury’s still out on that…..

That strikeout by Renteria in the first inning really had me doing a slow burn. Outside of that, I got nuthin’…..

ESPN Baseball tonight, John Kruk said that the way the Giants are hitting and their pitching staff he would not want to face them in the playoffs!! Finally getting some love from ESPN!! About time!!! Great, Great game, could not have asked for anything more from Dirtttty. Smart move by Bochy to get the new pitchers some time in a blow out. If it had been 2-1 or something like that I think he would have left Sanchez in there.

Kevin, Kruk, believe it or not, has been behind the Giants since about late April. When Ztis got off to a hot start, he said much the same thing. Now that the team is hitting, well, they ARE a formidable team in the NL.

The storm that rolled into Denver last night was from San Francisco. The Giant thunder of their bats, served notice. With clinical ruthlessness, first dispatching the hapless Aaron Cook, then by blowing away the high-flying Rockies offense.Dirrty blowing them away on his way to 7 consecutive strikeouts matching a 46 year old record held by the Great Juan Marichal.

It was a sterling display by the Red-Hot Giants.I was gonna whine a little about Freddy struggles of late .262/,320/.317 batting(can you still call that batting?) line, and then the little shit walloped one into the LF bleachers. All is good in Giant Land!

I can’t believe we haven’t fired Sabes yet. It’s his vision that has gotten us into this mess. That blockhead Bochy should be shit canned soon, before he wins and taints the manager of the year award. I don’t understand why we didn’t get rid of a starting pitcher to get someone who can sometimes hit but can’t play a lick of defense.
My god man, do you know how much we’re paying Whitesideburns? Hell I could sit on the bench for half that amount. Don’t even get me started on Ron fucking Wotus, what a waste of air.
We should be sweeping all these lesser teams because the Pads, oops I meant Pods (my wee fingers sometimes swell up, sniff) because they won’t lose.
Oh well, as I predicted, no WC this year.
    Hugs to all.

Their play right now reminds me of that line in Bull Durham, when the team finally starts playing well, and Annie (Susan Sarandon) says, “…and for one extraordinary June and July, the Durham Bulls began playing baseball with joy and verve and poetry.”

Win a bunch of games and the stats are sure to follow. With the Cardinals getting blasted last night their staff ERA dipped below the lowering one for SF. Now at 3.38, the Giants still trail Dago by a dozen points. Second in MLB right now. They are first in baseball in strikeouts and saves. Waaaay down low in walks allowed, however, with Drrrty (unhittable for the most part) leading the league in BBs. Giants rotation is best in the game in BAA (batting average against). Very few hitters care to face that loaded deck of five aces unless they are in love with free passes.

With last night’s offensive outburst, the Giants maintained their steady crawl up the ladder of hitting stats. Some particulars: At a respectable .410, the team is now 7th in slugging percentage. They are tied for 6th in their old bugaboo, on base percentage, with a growingly respectable .329. Tied for sixth as well in doubles with 192. Had Pablo gone Panda with that long, high fly last night they would have had 4 dingers and hit the century mark for the season. Instead, they are ‘stuck’ at 99, lodging them in 9th place in that glamorous category. Last season i think they finished at #15 and if my memory glands are not sagging too much, they may not have even topped the century mark in HRs.

Upmarket in a few categories, the Gigantes are now 4th in base-hits with 959. Racking up those safeties, SF is also 4th in BA with a quite respectable .264. In the all important runs scored category they are perfectly mediocre-middle of the road in 8th place with 479 tallies. However, their upward thrust recently has them a mere 3 markers out of 6th in runs and no more than 7 tallies from 5th in runs scored in a 16 team league.

It was the consensus among several regular posters going into the season that if the team could score runs at a middle of the pack pace, their dominant starting pitching should carry them into the post-season. Their current projection at the plate should land them in the upper third if not the upper quarter of NL teams by season’s end. With back-to-back shutouts of the Dodgers and the Rockies, their starting pitching appears to be up to its pre-season billing and then some.

When looking at the Giants this year consider Huff, Torres, Posey, Burrel and Bum. Other than Posey and maybe Bum, who here predicted that shot of talent? Who predited Zito’s year? Noone. Very sweet. If Pablo could get untracked we could be golden.

I guess that can be considered a “Splashy” remark. I’ve noticed Chronicle writers using the word “splashy” recently and wondered if it was a subtle dig on some of the posters over there. In today’s article by Jenkins, he mentions that Posey is now in the discussion for RoY. But he writes “It’s an entirely legitimate arguement, but I’d imagine such a splashy accomplishment is the last thing on Posey’s mind”
And it *is* a “splashy” compliment because if he doesn’t win RoY, some on the Splash would say it was a disappointing rookie season. Sure, it would be great. But it already *is* great.

If someone is looking for something to bitch about: watching the Pirate-Reds game and they have a little deal on Gorge Foster. 1977 league MVP. 5 time all star. Key part of the reds long run. The Giants traded him for some POS chump. I think Frank Duffy (SS). Don’t know if he ever played. Another Horace Stoneham special. Probably the only worse trade in history was Gaylord Perry for Sixpac Sam.

Jed tried the “who knew” route last year. In an earlier thread I honestly detailed my hits and misses for this year. Thought Panda would do more, Huff less. Other than that: *I knew* ( winning two of the contests is only part of the “proof”), how about (the collective): YOU?

13 pitchers already had some payoff. Bochy was able to play a 7-0 game (at the time) as if it was a playoff nail biter. That can be important in Denver. This is a fucking team that had 11 straight hits a few days ago. So we got a 5 pitcher shutout last night and there are still 4 guys who didn’t get used.

    • TedSpe's avatar TedSpe said, on August 4, 2010 at 12:34 pm
