A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

This Will be a Very Interesting Series…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 5, 2010

Not because it will tell me something about the Giants. I’m hoping to learn more about the Braves. Simply put, I just don’t think the Braves are as good as their record is.  Everyone is jizzin’ about Heyward but the dude has hit ONE home run since the end of May. They’ve got a good catcher and Prado has been a stud at the lead off spot for them this year (though we miss him during this series).  They’ve got a solid bullpen and maybe 2 starting pitchers I’d want on our staff. Chipper is held together with rubber bands and Glaus (like Heyward) hasn’t done much after his hot start (no HR’s since June)….

I dunno, I just don’t get the hype about the Braves. Do they still do that dumb chop? I guess we’ll find out……

The Todd makes his glorious return to the team today with Bautista *walking* his way out of town…..

I think we win 3 of the 4…….

From Baggs: Dontrelle Willis update: According to Giants VP Bobby Evans, he faced just 1 batter in AZL game last night because of torn fingernail on left hand.

I hope he didn’t just have them done….

I didn’t hear it live, but the Turner Field organist played “Puff the Magic Dragon” when Lincecum batted in the fourth inning.

Gotta hand it to those 80yo Betty’s being hip to the scene.

Must be cooling off a bit as the sun settles towards the West. Timmy was flat out dealing in that inning. Great news. Jurrjens leads off their 5th.

Oh, good. Buster gets the “friends and family” excuse.

Pat has a lotta friends here, too.

  6. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on August 5, 2010 at 5:41 pm

Normally Posey DOES dink a single with that runner on second. Guess we’ve gotten a bit accustomed/spoiled on that.

  7. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 5:45 pm

If tim, huff and posey get some slack it’s because they’ve been excellent all yr (tim has 2 cy youngs he gets a leash off those). Panda has been horrendous since April. If he gets it harder from the fans than the other 3, that’s the reason why…

  8. Michael's avatar Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 5:46 pm

He’s at least supposed to move the runner. It has nothing to do with being spoiled, it’s still his job TONIGHT. He is the main reason they are not ahead. He deserves every single bit of the praise he gets, but when he receives zero criticism for failure, it’s fair to look at why that is.

  9. Michael's avatar Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 5:47 pm

I already said that, Flavoro. But again, you cannot pretend that his failures tonight never happened. NONE of you even mentioned his pathetic first inning AB.

    • wswinb4igo's avatar wswinb4igo said, on August 5, 2010 at 5:50 pm

because none of us would rank on him like you do Mike every chance you get to, which is very rarely, when it comes to Buster

  11. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on August 5, 2010 at 5:51 pm

Not the 3 guys coming up who usually work the pitcher, but they need to get Jurrjens throwing more than 7 pitches this time. He’s at 93 now, so baserunners and long ABs could go a long way to getting at him.

I’m not pretending shit, every baseball player fails a lot during a 162 gm season. As I said, if we don’t jump in buster for an unusual fuck up it’s because he’s been nails this yr. If he’d been ficking up all yr, like pablo, he’d be hearing it from the peanut gallery full force

  17. Michael's avatar Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 5:55 pm

Critical inning for Timmy, facing the heart of the order. If he makes it through this one unscathed i think they have a pretty good shot.

  21. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on August 5, 2010 at 6:02 pm

well, believe what you want. What I said makes perfect sense, the other guys have earned the break from the fans. Panda has sucked almost all year. Same reason Rowand gets it, Renteria, etc…..You can believe what you want but I have no problem giving Huff, Posey, Torres, Timmy, etc breaks all day long. All major leaguers fuck up now and again. Some of them fuck up all the time. THOSE are the guys who hear it from the fans……..

  24. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on August 5, 2010 at 6:06 pm

Fraid of that going into the inning. Timmy lost just a bit of his edge. Now the offense must get at Jurrjens.

  29. Michael's avatar Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 6:17 pm

Hitting for Venters? After that inning? If that’s Bochy managing, Room B is POSTAL. Anyway, thank you, Bobby. Venters is unfuckinghittable

  30. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on August 5, 2010 at 6:20 pm

Bochy managing: Yes Timmy’s the ace, but he was pretty drained after the sixth. No Venters in the Giants BP, but plenty of warm bodies.

  31. Michael's avatar Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 6:22 pm

You are confused on the question, Stix. It’s if Bochy is managing the Braves. Anyway, I’m sure the Giants are delighted to see anyone else. It’s like Broxton for Kuo. I’ll take that switch ANY day.

  32. Bozo's avatar Bozo said, on August 5, 2010 at 6:26 pm

My point, Twin, is that Timmy was pooped. Bochy maybe should have started someone else that inning, even if Lincy is the ace. Trading Joe and Bowker for Lopez? Yes again. Great job by the new pickup.

Mike and Jbat . . . I answered you in regard to your questions about Coors in the other Blog post about my day at Coors. To wit:

A friend of mine Mike (also retired) that I use to work with. His name is Steve too. He’s a good guy, albeit a Rockies’ fan.

JBat, I’ll preface my comment by saying it has nothing to do with me being a Giants fan . . . OK, hands down, the “Phone Park” is unequivocally better than Coors Field. Why? A number of reasons, including the fact that the Coors Ownership group got greedy and added 10000 additional seats (they saw that Mile High Stadium was at capacity (80k plus) during the Rockies inaugural season and decided to add more seats to the original architects plan); No views for the majority of fans, except in right field – mountains; food sucks compared to AT&T; Coors access is not bad, but I love the train access that AT&T has; and, the fans are . . . umm, not fanatics, like Giants fans . . . Just go to the comments section of any Giants article in the SF Gate and you will find literally hundreds of posts. Conversely, you will find only a couple dozen in the Denver Post (and only if they are winning). In short, they are lukewarm fans and tend to get on the bandwagon when they are winning. Coors does have SF beat in the immediate area around Coors insofar as nightlife. “LODO” rocks before, during and after a Rockies game . . . again, more so if they are winning.

  41. Michael's avatar Michael said, on August 5, 2010 at 6:42 pm

Tim SHOULD get *some* slack but facts count, too. He’s not appreciably better than Dirty Sanchez this year. ( 3.15 ERA to 3.38. 1.27 WHIP to 1.30). I’ve pointed this out before, the Freak is supposed to WIN the match ups with the Jurrjens of the world. Tim is not the guy who’s supposed to blink. It’s totally fair to expect more from the two time Cy winner, not less.

Sooo close. Lots of opportunities. Couldn’t cash in. Jurrjens was tough in clutch situations. Venters something else again. Likewise Lopez. Timmy floated a couple of changeups and that was the ballgame. Posey had some butterflies at the plate. Pablo looking good. Torres: Torrid.

No killer instinct with ducks on the pond tonight. That stranded runner at third in the first with only one out was the big difference. That, and a long string of wasted doubles. Giants win this game were it in SF.

Tomorrow is another day. Dodgers beat Correia tonight and Giants ass is saved. Though the Rooster may re-emerge from his dung-heap.
