A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Dirrrrrty’s Mouth and Welcome Back Manny Burriss…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 9, 2010

This will be unpopular, but I like Jonathan Sanchez’ bold words after yesterday’s game: “We’re going to play SD and we’re going to beat them 3 times. If we get to first place, we’re not looking back. We are definitely going to make the playoffs”…..Hell yes, say it again, louder this time! And to make this bold claim even more impressive, Dirrrty had the balls to say this on the heels of the team looking so awful in Atlanta. I’m surprising this wake up call came from him, he’s not exactly a visible team leader. But I’m glad he said it. The Giants needs a reminder that this is August and they are in a pennant race. Freddy Sanchez doesn’t know what the hell is going on right now, he’s usually booking his Winter vacation around this time. The team has to play the rest of the season with a belief that they aren’t just good enough but that they WILL BE WINNING this thing. No other mental approach makes sense. Forgot all that “locker room pin up shit”– The Padres have been kicking our ass all year, I LOVE IT that they are now hearing an attitude from us— kinda reminds me of Rocky in Rocky 3 during the 2nd fight with Clubber Lang: “Ain’t so bad! Ain’t so bad! Ain’t so bad!!!!”…. Pin those comments up on every locker in SD for all I care…….

Manny Burriss getting recalled today (according to Baggs). No big surprise, especially since it will likely be The Todd who gets bounced. I would be more excited about Burriss’ arrival if I felt confident that speed was still a major part of his game but I think he isn’t going to be back to full physical and mental strength until next year. Either way, if his arrival sends Franchez to the bench a little more, I’m all for that……..

I didn’t make it POTD, though I should have.  On the last thread, Zumie made a good point:

zumarust said, on August 8, 2010 at 11:23 pm (Edit)

The thing that is the bad thing on any of these blogs is grating repetition. Soph, at the Splash, is horrible, but even more horrible because of the repetition. If someone has a criticism, make the criticism and then MOVE ON to other things, or come back to the old thing in a new creative way. This is why TF is so good at this stuff. I see people all the time talk about him never criticizing the Giants. Say what? The dude shares his criticisms of the Giants; he just doesn’t keep repeating the same criticism over and over. He moves on with the unfolding events.”

I’d like everyone to remember this. The Flap isn’t The Splash, thank God. Let’s not act like the posters still left in that tumbleweed town……

Probably the most unfortunate fall out from the steroid era is the now virulent view that anybody who has a career year, or late success, HAS to be a PED user. That view is even worse when it’s selectively applied.

Kat, the heat obviously got to me and my head as it did to the Panda’s bat. I was expecting retro-Dale Murphy in August Atlanta and instead I got Eddie Murphy instead.

My selection of Panda with the first pick in the third round in my money fantasy league is killing my season.

True Doomers (so assinine) have applauded Huff all year. Great value, low risk, career year. Point Sabean. Unique approach: eye your cleanup hitter in Feb. (yes, he was) … then lowball him for $3M. Guess we just don’t know how sly and crafty it is to fuck up so many other deals for this set up. “Hey, if I thought you were as shitty as Richie, I’d give you two years and more money. Sorry.”

I personally cannot see steroids affecting batting average all that much if at all. He was what 28 when he won the batting title?

Just turned out to be his career year. The roids I think beyond bulking guys up for power also got these older players back in the lineup day after day and after injuries.

It is amazing to see the HOUR totals plummet the way they have this year compared to 5 years ago.

And my two cents, I think Hanley Ramirez is a punk and don’t want him in our uniform.

How can you trade Panda with his value lessened? We would get hosed in such a deal and I don’t see a 3B ready to take his spot in our system.

After seeing Bay and Holliday not do as much as they are getting paid for, I would be wary of any long-term deals for Hanley, Fielder, Braun. I think our pitching fpr the next 3 years will keep us competitive. I think we can add moderately priced bats and remain contenders.

  13. Michael's avatar Michael said, on August 9, 2010 at 7:13 pm

If one were to do such a thing, certainly DeRosa would be a prime suspect, with very little success whatsoever until he was 30+. Huff: absolutely under suspicion. Uribe, yep. Torres, you bet. But not JUST Torres. Of the pitchers: Zito, Mota would be 1-2.

“Where’s Wavy Gravy when you need him?”

I think I actually know. I think he lives up near Laytonville, a 4 hour drive North from the Bay Area, where the Kate Wolf festival, and other music festivals are held. He may be a part owner of the big ranch where the festivals are held. He makes appearances at the festivals to be MC sometimes. He’s involved with a lot of charity work for kids, too.

Loo, damn these abbreviations! isn’t global warming responsible?

Twin, I was more referencing Flav’s comment on Franchez, but certainly in the Torres case, I highly doubt any illegal steroid use. I think what we see with Torres is that he is not a typical baseball athelete, but instead he is a sprinter. He has a ton of upper body strength from that training and I think that is the real reason he blossomed late. He was late to baseball and has a different physical history.

We might need to look at more sprinters from Puerto Rico and in the region.
