Dirrrrrty’s Mouth and Welcome Back Manny Burriss…..
This will be unpopular, but I like Jonathan Sanchez’ bold words after yesterday’s game: “We’re going to play SD and we’re going to beat them 3 times. If we get to first place, we’re not looking back. We are definitely going to make the playoffs”…..Hell yes, say it again, louder this time! And to make this bold claim even more impressive, Dirrrty had the balls to say this on the heels of the team looking so awful in Atlanta. I’m surprising this wake up call came from him, he’s not exactly a visible team leader. But I’m glad he said it. The Giants needs a reminder that this is August and they are in a pennant race. Freddy Sanchez doesn’t know what the hell is going on right now, he’s usually booking his Winter vacation around this time. The team has to play the rest of the season with a belief that they aren’t just good enough but that they WILL BE WINNING this thing. No other mental approach makes sense. Forgot all that “locker room pin up shit”– The Padres have been kicking our ass all year, I LOVE IT that they are now hearing an attitude from us— kinda reminds me of Rocky in Rocky 3 during the 2nd fight with Clubber Lang: “Ain’t so bad! Ain’t so bad! Ain’t so bad!!!!”…. Pin those comments up on every locker in SD for all I care…….
Manny Burriss getting recalled today (according to Baggs). No big surprise, especially since it will likely be The Todd who gets bounced. I would be more excited about Burriss’ arrival if I felt confident that speed was still a major part of his game but I think he isn’t going to be back to full physical and mental strength until next year. Either way, if his arrival sends Franchez to the bench a little more, I’m all for that……..
I didn’t make it POTD, though I should have. On the last thread, Zumie made a good point:
“zumarust said, on August 8, 2010 at 11:23 pm (Edit)
The thing that is the bad thing on any of these blogs is grating repetition. Soph, at the Splash, is horrible, but even more horrible because of the repetition. If someone has a criticism, make the criticism and then MOVE ON to other things, or come back to the old thing in a new creative way. This is why TF is so good at this stuff. I see people all the time talk about him never criticizing the Giants. Say what? The dude shares his criticisms of the Giants; he just doesn’t keep repeating the same criticism over and over. He moves on with the unfolding events.”
I’d like everyone to remember this. The Flap isn’t The Splash, thank God. Let’s not act like the posters still left in that tumbleweed town……
wsw, will JustinTV have the game this evening?
So, based on previous trade proposals, that might be Sandoval/Cain/Posey/three AAA prospects for Hanley….
Probably the most unfortunate fall out from the steroid era is the now virulent view that anybody who has a career year, or late success, HAS to be a PED user. That view is even worse when it’s selectively applied.
Kat, the heat obviously got to me and my head as it did to the Panda’s bat. I was expecting retro-Dale Murphy in August Atlanta and instead I got Eddie Murphy instead.
My selection of Panda with the first pick in the third round in my money fantasy league is killing my season.
Unca C said: “….opening day 1993 when Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Vince Welnick (he being the latest in the line of dead Dead keyboardists) sang the Star Spangled Banner a cappella.”
They just showed it! Very cool!
Dennis, nice job on the Godfather reference- well done!
True Doomers (so assinine) have applauded Huff all year. Great value, low risk, career year. Point Sabean. Unique approach: eye your cleanup hitter in Feb. (yes, he was) … then lowball him for $3M. Guess we just don’t know how sly and crafty it is to fuck up so many other deals for this set up. “Hey, if I thought you were as shitty as Richie, I’d give you two years and more money. Sorry.”
Is DJ’s quote a Godfather reference? I can’t place it.
I personally cannot see steroids affecting batting average all that much if at all. He was what 28 when he won the batting title?
Just turned out to be his career year. The roids I think beyond bulking guys up for power also got these older players back in the lineup day after day and after injuries.
It is amazing to see the HOUR totals plummet the way they have this year compared to 5 years ago.
Are you getting less than 24 a day out there?
Speaking of gangsters- Bonnie and Clyde was on one of the networks this afternoon, with an incredibly young Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.
Well, I wasn’t talking about FreddyFuck, Ghead. I don’t engage in that unsupportable allegation business.
And my two cents, I think Hanley Ramirez is a punk and don’t want him in our uniform.
How can you trade Panda with his value lessened? We would get hosed in such a deal and I don’t see a 3B ready to take his spot in our system.
After seeing Bay and Holliday not do as much as they are getting paid for, I would be wary of any long-term deals for Hanley, Fielder, Braun. I think our pitching fpr the next 3 years will keep us competitive. I think we can add moderately priced bats and remain contenders.
If one were to do such a thing, certainly DeRosa would be a prime suspect, with very little success whatsoever until he was 30+. Huff: absolutely under suspicion. Uribe, yep. Torres, you bet. But not JUST Torres. Of the pitchers: Zito, Mota would be 1-2.
“Where’s Wavy Gravy when you need him?”
I think I actually know. I think he lives up near Laytonville, a 4 hour drive North from the Bay Area, where the Kate Wolf festival, and other music festivals are held. He may be a part owner of the big ranch where the festivals are held. He makes appearances at the festivals to be MC sometimes. He’s involved with a lot of charity work for kids, too.
Loo, damn these abbreviations! isn’t global warming responsible?
Twin, I was more referencing Flav’s comment on Franchez, but certainly in the Torres case, I highly doubt any illegal steroid use. I think what we see with Torres is that he is not a typical baseball athelete, but instead he is a sprinter. He has a ton of upper body strength from that training and I think that is the real reason he blossomed late. He was late to baseball and has a different physical history.
We might need to look at more sprinters from Puerto Rico and in the region.
What was Loo’s actual trade proposal on Panda?
Not many umps give Bum that backdoor curve on the black. He’s going to have to trust that curve more, and get more of the plate with it. It’s a good curve.
Krukow described the pitch Castro hit as a “belt-high lazy mistake”
I’ve been described the same way.
See that’s gold. You’re back, baby
JustinTV isn’t showing the game, but for those who can’t get video and want audio, click on http://www.1430espn.com/player.php
Where’s kuip? Too many words coming out of kruk’s mouth…
Twin, I never for a second confined my steroid suspicions to only torres. And you know this. I suspect everyone. And always will. That’s the fallout of the steroid era…
GH: I’m not saying any of those guys are users, just that those would be players who by performance and age would be suspect.
And btw, my money is on a soriano being in that list….
If I was referring only to you, I would use your name.
Blade….try this
http://www.veemi.com/watch?v=rojadirectas090810
they just took that stream down…
Pablo. Ugh. Focus. I’m not saying he wasn’t paying attention or that he didn’t try his hardest. But his focus this year is having subtle effects on his play. He’s a hair off everything this year….
Let’s take this punk out by the third inning and hope Bums settles in…
And kruk’s reference of the mound as “the bump”, every single time when he never used to call it that on the air, is annoying me. Could be the 2-0 deficit too
blade…kos just got it on…
http://www.justin.tv/kostaz003
Yeah, it’s not working wsw . . . Thanks for trying though! Whoa! Justintv just came on . . . glad I left the browser window open.
Yeah . . . very cool 🙂
STFU Walton
Must be Hippie Night.
thanks, guys; I tried justin.tv kostaz a few minutes ago, no dice; I’ll try again
Just to show that I don’t play favorites (horses excluded) as much as I rag on Timmy to get a haircut, well…Shave off that goddamn beard Madison! Looks ridiculous. Isn’t helping your ERA out much either.
Working for me Pawlie . . . try again.
got it, just in time to hear Bill Walton’s aria
Walton & Alcindor might have been the 2 best college BB players ever. Wooden (like Phil Jackson) gets a little too much credit sometimes.
big men ya Loo…but I remember a great smaller guy. dominated in college. Pistol Pete Maravich.
Maravich was my favorite college player ever, ws. Those boxscores were a riot.
Maravich with 59, and 6 guys with 5 pts or less. His commercial inspired me to buy Vitalis “Dry Control” men’s hairspray. Wish they still made it.
I used to make $ in high school with him. I’d bet Maravich’ total plus 20pts, and they could have the other team…made lots of $ that way…
I’m glad I never really saw Walton play. I’m glad his play doesn’t color my opinion about him. He’s unbelievably annoying to listen too especially when he’s talking about himself which is all the time
Walton is either on meth or shrooms.
I’m waiting for “Who’s Alcindor?”
Looking at Zambrano, i’m seeing an umpire with a built-in chest protector.
Wow- all the hostility towards Walton. Super talented basketball player until injuries derailed him. That title the Trailblazers won against the Sixers was such a great moment in NBA history.
I’m sure Walton is getting a lot of shit right now as he talks about Jerry but he’s dead on. Jerry Garcia was a revelation. I wasn’t a dead head but I did like the dead. I probably hit 15 to 20 shows over the years. Jerry was the best….
He’s due for a yard ball…
Walton has no idea about baseball bruadcasts. Shut the fuck up!!!! How could he be this clueless?
Walton hangs out in Sun Valley?
Well- how can he STFU when he was brought into the booth to talk? (grin)
that was crazy, Walton’s riffs
Did you guys catch Huff’s new walk up song? The stadium may be living in 1967, not Aubrey. He’s 1977.
http://tinyurl.com/2cbettp
I’m on with Amy G!!!
Plus, he only said what a lot of us have been saying for a few years now:
“Come on! Where’s the offense?”
Blade– he sounds like he’s on meth. I never noticed how annoying he was before until I heard him hijack a baseball broadcast. Jesus Christ I just wanted to skull fuck him during that 10 min spot……
I’m sure that’s what most viewers were thinking…
I see we’re back to full blown torture mode tonight . . .
Zum, I agree, except Walton uses 2 million words, when the 5 you indicated would have sufficed.
Fucker forgot he was talking for free (and not being paid by the word per his TNT hoops contract).
Funny thing was to be at a dead show and see this 6’10” flaming read haired guy tripping harder than you were.
I did like the flashback comment! ! ! !~
I saw Jerry play at the frost at Stanford once with this black dude, can’t remember his name. Unreal performance.
Walton’s body just couldn’t support his size. He broke his back playing basketball in college? I hadn’t heard that. His feet were tore up over the years playing.
Not pablo’s best throw but ishikawa should have had that
Should be a “shared error”…
zumie: I have never, ever heard a guest booth guy come into the booth and disrupt the sounds of the game the way Walton did. Come on you couldn’t have enjoyed listening to that.
Unrelated to game . . . Flav, I ended up taking Bailey (even though he is on the DL) . . . Axford – who I told you I had on my team – blew his last save for me and I dropped him. Arizona just tied the game against the Brew Crew because of his fuckup a couple of minutes ago.
Walton was the biggest dead head in the world. He’s going to tout the shit out whatever the fuck he was talking about, regardless of the game.
Fucking torture. This shit has to stop.
That DP is on Aubrey. Unbelievable the ways they hit into them.
If you can’t hit into a traditional DP, you can always innovate.
I waived axford too, a week or two ago. Not enough save opportuities and he had some very average underlying saber stats
Lady Luck has not been beaming on Buster tonight.
Spahn?
It does sort of amaze me how often major leaguers get doubled off on infield linedrives. I guess the angle is hard to see sometimes.
Walton was all tore up by the time he got out of UCLA. Between his feet, ankles, and back, he’s probably had 35 surgeries.
He stuttered like a mo fo out of college, and hated talking to the media.
Imagine that
Huff looked safe but …..let’s not mistake symptom for deeper problem (offense).
And I’ve seen enough of Buster’s Freddy impersonation of late.
Walton’s performance in one of those college championships was just off the charts. He made 21 of his 22 shots.
Jerry Garcia nodded and grunted to me at Flushing Meadows outdoor concert w/ Joe Cocker when he was mingling during an intermission and I said, “Hey, Jerry, this is cool, like San Francisco, right?” even though I had never been to SF. Most memorable concert: the Dead at midnight, Fillmore East. And to think my parents let us go. i was, what, 20. And, yes, Walton was thoroughly annoying, Magnus.
The Dead couldn’t have sold out a high school auditorium in ’60’s Brooklyn.
Bill made a good call on the DP… so he’s an aging hippie? Got no problem with that. Beats the usual jock talk.
