A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Great Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 12, 2010

Of course I saw none of it up in the Idaho mountains but the last 50 or so posts from you guys told me it was a “great win”. I’m only changing the date on the POTG, obviously. We go up 3-0, then it’s tied 4-4, still we find a way to win. Gutty team performance to take back the lead and the win, that’s what playoff teams do….

I’m 110% behind the Fontenot pick up. I haven’t read what others have said about it yet, will try to later this morning. He was already taking time away from Theriot before he was traded to the Dodgers. I remember when those to came onto the scene, the Cubs felt like they had found their middle infield for the next 5 years. But, sometimes things don’t always work out as planned. Fontenot will be fine, I was actually a little surprised by how few SB’s he had but maybe I was thinking of Theriot. Regardless, we gave up NADA and now have a legit mlb option to plug into 3rd or 2nd and Bochy won’t feel hamstrung to have to play Pablo or Freddy all the time…..

The only thing bothering me right now is no one got Loo’s SILENCE OF THE LAMBS post

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on August 12, 2010 at 8:13 am

What’chu talkin’ ’bout Willis? I told Loo to put the lotion in the basket. Now, that doesn’t directly involve Clarice, but it was the first thing that came to mind. If I would have used a specific Starlin(g) reference, I would have chosen this one.:

Clarice Starling: He said, “I can smell your $unt.”
Hannibal Lecter: I see. I myself cannot. You use Evian skin cream, and sometimes you wear L’Air du Temps, but not today.

I got it. I love those subtle movie references. Helps you keep the mind sharp, and on your toes. There’s one I never got, who the hell wants to be “on their toes?” I think most would prefer to be off their toes and sitting on the damn couch. But, hey, that’s just me.

  2. xootsuit's avatar xootsuit said, on August 12, 2010 at 7:30 am

Everyone got it, Ted. Starlin(g). Pretty good. But movies, well, . . . . give me a good book. Mumbo Jumbo, for example.

Fontenot’s skill and versatility are exactly what the Giants needed right now. (He does look a lot like Keppinger on paper, doesn’t he?) Win today and head into the weekend ready to make the big move. Let’s go.

Wasn’t FOOTLOOSE a ripoff of MUMBO JUMBO?

I prefer Paul Newmans line “sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand”. Thats what I think of when the doomers say, the Giants need a bat.

Today is all about taking care of business. A nice workmanlike victory over the Cubs, something like 5-2, and then focus in on the Padres.

  13. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on August 12, 2010 at 10:45 am

Yeah, Flav. I was kind of expecting the new guy to get a start at 2B given the runt’s pathetic numbers vs the non-port sided ones. Doesn’t Bochy know the little shithead can’t hit right-handers worth a damn. Play the new guy, skipper.

  14. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on August 12, 2010 at 10:47 am

Maybe Sabean made a gentleman’s agreement not to start Fontenot today in the two-slot in place of Franchez. Apparently Torres needed a day off to prime for the Pads. With Matt on the mound maybe Bochy felt the presence of the Torrid one wasn’t essential today.

Max: Good point on Cubs likely to play fast and loose today as they are under no possible pressure. Giants need to maintain focus on TODAY’s game and clout Chicago. Imagine the pressure on Drrrty tomorrow. My hope is that his outburst got inside the Dago’s heads instead of motivating them.

Counting today’s there are 47 games to go. Pretty soon crunch time is totally official as we will be down to the last quarter of the season. As crunches go, its one game to crush the Cubbies before three with the Pads, three in Philly and three in St. Louis. The story of the season is likely to unfold over these next ten. I’d be tickled pink if the team can win today, take two of three from Dago and split the road series with the old Beast of the East and the best of the Midwest.

Well Bochy said, ” Fontenot on bench is not because Cubs are on the other side.”

Well? The new guy should be playing then vs the right-handed Wells. Franchez blows!
I said I wasn’t gonna say a goddamn thing, well, I fibbed. Rowand AND the runt atop today’s lineup is beyond a head-scratcher. I don’t know who in the hell is gonna set the table today. Maybe Martha Stewart is available. She always comes up with the damnedest napkin designs and center pieces.

Yeah i would say Torres legs would be a little tight, with all the running he has to do for the team,Stealing all the bases, running gap to gap in the OF.Just needs a blow and to get ready for the Pads tomorrow good move.I would of liked to see Fotenot get his feet wet today leading off though.

  21. Michael's avatar Michael said, on August 12, 2010 at 12:03 pm

Dennises’ vehemence tips the scale, Giants should romp…
These are not easy transitions, children. Very few doubt that this is likely to evolve into a platoon, but the second day after the trade and JUST after Freddy had already sat two days, is just too early. Fontenot will get a start against Latos, Fruckie against the two SD lefties, then going forward we’ll see the platoon.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on August 12, 2010 at 12:20 pm

      I do my best.

Shit, Whitey’s 2 for 3 (both doubles) off of Wells, Bochy shoulda given him a start.

That last comment was intended for Vern and Vera only in hopes of placating their feelings towards their only child. Sorry, folks, your son blows more than the winter wind.

  22. 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on August 12, 2010 at 12:13 pm

Torres has played so hard, he could use a day off. That said, Rowand’s stroke has been looking better with his average climbing and his HR last night. But with him at leadoff, I would have liked to see fontenot in the 2 hole because of his speed and he’s a lefty.

  23. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on August 12, 2010 at 12:15 pm

I like the trade for Fontenot.I think the Giants were looking for more back up experience on the infield once Rent went down. And i believe they were not overly excited that Burriss was gonna give them that down the stretch.

Idaho is a right fine place for a bayarea man, Flav. Snake river man, meself.
And the Giants are playing well. definitely not above their head, this is no fluke.
They have gained a little offence this season and lost a little of the SPs dominance.
and we are moving towards a 90+ win season.
