A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Great Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 12, 2010

Of course I saw none of it up in the Idaho mountains but the last 50 or so posts from you guys told me it was a “great win”. I’m only changing the date on the POTG, obviously. We go up 3-0, then it’s tied 4-4, still we find a way to win. Gutty team performance to take back the lead and the win, that’s what playoff teams do….

I’m 110% behind the Fontenot pick up. I haven’t read what others have said about it yet, will try to later this morning. He was already taking time away from Theriot before he was traded to the Dodgers. I remember when those to came onto the scene, the Cubs felt like they had found their middle infield for the next 5 years. But, sometimes things don’t always work out as planned. Fontenot will be fine, I was actually a little surprised by how few SB’s he had but maybe I was thinking of Theriot. Regardless, we gave up NADA and now have a legit mlb option to plug into 3rd or 2nd and Bochy won’t feel hamstrung to have to play Pablo or Freddy all the time…..

Right on Chi. There shall be no more Sabean bashing for the rest of the year. Watching chronile live yesterday and listening to how Fontenot is not enough, because they still need a bat. Fuck that BS. Sabes brought in Huff, Burrell acquired Torres and drafted Posey. That’s 4 solid bats. Now if Panda comes around…watch out. Sabean earned his paycheck this year.

    • eddacker's avatar eddacker415 said, on August 12, 2010 at 4:11 pm

notice how the team is winning and Botchy fades into the background. Every year he has been here we have improved season standing.

      • 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on August 12, 2010 at 4:19 pm

I’ve never had a problem with Bochy, Sabean on the other hand…I’ve had my issues. Rent and Rownd still piss me off for the money they’re making, but I can’t say that about the moves he’s made this year. All of them, even Franchez, I think were right on.

    • xootsuit's avatar xootsuit said, on August 12, 2010 at 4:21 pm

Back in ST, who would’ve thought the middle of the LU would be jam packed with hitters? If Pablo’s back, they’ve got the bats.

      • 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on August 12, 2010 at 4:32 pm

I was hoping that Huff and DeRosa would be at least serviceable and that Sabean would have to trade for a big bat. None of that happened. DeRosa goes down, Huff has MVP numbers, and Sabes gets Burrell for the pro-rated minimum without having to give up anything. Unbelievable.

      Exactly.

  19. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on August 12, 2010 at 4:13 pm

Now that was drama. Rowand’s one hit of the game, a broken bat single and a dusted-up uniform. Sanchez does his job. So do Huff and Posey. Good eyes. Once it got to the secret weapon off the bench (who didn’t have to do a lot of running today) it was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Wish MLB’s rules were a bit different as that was a GR double in all truth and would have added to Torres’ total as he’s juuuust trailing Werth and also now is 5th in SBs and is fast climbing the ladder in walk-off hits.

Wilson gets a rare win, though he sure earned a save as well, but they can’t count both ways. Generally, Bochy manages his BP better than he did in the eighth. Starting with Ray was okay in terms of rest, etc. but bringing in Mota was bad, bad, bad. He should have brought in Romo right there. Of course, that would have cost all the drama in the 9th, but i don’t know if any power-washer out there will be able to remove all the sweat from my teeshirt from those two innings ~ and i’m only a fan.

Big thing is the walk-off win. Incredible confidence builder going into the upcoming series with the current Divisional leaders, that team from north suburban Tijuana.

Jones’ numbers were down this year, but he got several clutch hits for them this year, and was still a batter that pitchers had to worry about in the Braves lineup. Now Heyward has to take the kind of load on his shoulders that Buster has already had to do. It’s a true even-field battle for Rookie of the Year now.

There was a funny thing going on at the end of the Dodger/Philly game. A young kid was sitting behind one of the dugouts and using his hands to put a hex on Broxton before every pitch. The broadcast kept going back to the kid as the inning kept going downhill for the Dodgers. That kid is in a car on the way home absolutely convinced he won that game for the Phils.

Fruckie had a maybe his best all around game as a Giant. You know, I recall a hand still sticking up after I buried him yesterday. You definitely have to bury these “Freddy” guys real well….I’m delighted if he turns it around.
