A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

1973? And leave the park the way it is……

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 25, 2010

After that pathetic, team-wide, lay down on Sun these last 2 games have been awesome.  I was stunned to read that this is the first back-to-back double digit runs scored at home since 1973.  That’s crazy. Of course it’s hard to get to 10 runs in a baseball game but is it 37 years hard to get their consecutively? The Yankees probably do that at least a couple of times a year…..

Did anyone catch Barbieri crying about moving the fences in yesterday? His argument is that good hitters don’t want to come here because of the dimensions. I don’t think for a second that the Giants would consider altering this perfect park so I’m not worried about Barbieri’s rant. There isn’t a reason in the world to move the fences in. In fact, I would argue that a triple into the alleyway is MORE exciting than a homerun– will the guy get to third? How many runs score? And then the play at the plate! And so what if Huff has lost a few bombs at AT&T.  His home OPS this year is .906. Last year his home OPS was .784. I think he can live with the dimensions. And I was at that inside-the-park job he had earlier this year, it was one of the most exciting plays of the year…….

I’ve argued this point before. Sabean drafts backwards. He focuses on pitchers because that’s his thing and his results certainly can’t be questioned. But he would have no problem signing FA pitchers to pitcher here. Pitchers love ATT. He gets rebuffed by the big boppers, but if he DRAFTED hitters they would have to play here. And most hitters find out that ATT is NOT death to a bat. OPS’s and batting averages usually go up at ATT because of the big outfield, the fielders simply can’t cover the ground they can at other smaller parks…..

Ted Sillanpaa still sucks……

Yo TF, I thought you had the ear of the blog admins. How about pushing for a mercy flush for barryforever? Spamming the boards and driving traffic away from the blog can’t be something the chron is in favor of.

If that fails, a little run on his dodger board might be in order.

Barry seems to have his own connections at SFGate. Often all anti-BFE posts are deleted. Or I also suspect that there might be a magic keyword to get someone’s post deleted. Used to be all Spanish language posts could be deleted. Probably “just in case” there was a hidden F-Bomb.

    • TedSpe's avatar TedSpe said, on August 25, 2010 at 2:25 pm

Either that or BFE “reports abuse” on everyone

  16. swickman's avatar swickman said, on August 25, 2010 at 2:23 pm

I’m pretty sure that if multiple people complain, posts are deleted without review. One time, I put out the call that we should all report Barry’s posts and for a day, every single one of them was removed, and quickly. I’m guessing he just complains with his half-dozen screen names and gets posts removed easily that way.

Better record than last year on Aug. 25. Another comparison . . .
2009: shutout opp. 18 times (20% of wins), was ShO 10 times (13% of losses).
    2010: ShO opp. 11 times (15%), was ShO 11 times (20%).

    “This PS stinks right now”

Cain is their best starter now, but they don’t have a legit stopper/ACE at this point in the season. Similar with the setup role all yr. A handful of guys, none of them consistently setting themselves apart.

“This PS stinks right now” Right now, meaning today? Entering the game, the Giants were on pace to give up 616 runs, or 5 more than last year. If you adjust this year’s ERA to compensate for the percentage decrease in overall league ERA, the team’s 2010 ERA would be about .10 higher.

Again, one of the primary reasons the staff has performed pretty much on par with last year is J Sanchez’s pitching. After Madbum’s drubbing today, Dirty has the second best ERA of the starters.

    Lincecum: C-
    Zito C
    Cain B+
    Sanchez B+

Decap, the deal with Jed is that he knows he’s a lying fuck. He’s trying to lie, distort, and manipulate. Dennis (I think you should know most of this) Last year before the season… Jed and TheKidd bitched and bitched about how awful the team was going to be… and how dumb we all were for believing they would be anything better than the 72-90 they were in 2008(even with multiple people showing reason for the optism/improvement). I said they would get 88 wins (right on I might add), and Jed said they wouldn’t make it to 80. I bet him that the Giants would win more than 80, and the loser would banish himself from the Splash….
Done with talking about that bet from here on out… If Jed wants a new one I am all ears.

Here’s a great example of a deliberate misquote by you, Jed.
    —————–
On the top of the last page at 1:24 PM, you write:
Today’s thread invited discussion about Sabean’s drafts, adding “his results certainly can’t be questioned.”
    —————–
Except that’s not the whole sentence that BF wrote. The whole sentence was “He focuses on pitchers because that’s his thing and his results certainly can’t be questioned.” Of course, that’s a MUCH different premise than “his results certainly can’t be questioned”

Of fucking course his position player drafts can be questioned. He’s been close to an abject failure at drafting position players (Posey notwithstanding). But he’s certainly made up for it with Lincecum, Matt Cain and Bumgarner. Every GM dreams of having a track record like his with pitching. Yeah, he hasn’t made the playoffs, but that’s where YOU digressed from BF’s initial topic, not me.

    • swickman's avatar swickman said, on August 25, 2010 at 3:23 pm

Since 2003, that is. He’s damn close to GM’ing this team into the playoffs this year.
