A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Padres Could Easily Finish in 3rd Place….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 6, 2010

I was half-way listening to Marty Lurie in the car yesterday and I THINK he said that only one team in the history of baseball has ever lost 10 in a row and still made the playoffs–1951 Giants (I think). And the Padres are forced to look around the locker room and not be thinking “Ok, this will pass, we are the best team, etc…”. They’re looking around going “uh oh, this is what everyone said we would be before the season started”.  If anything, we need to worry a little about Colorado– they’re playing well and if we get hit by San Diego on their freefall down it’s totally possible that the Rockies slide right on up to the top of the division…….

Depending on the outcome of the next couple of days we could literally be in a position to BURY the Padres in our upcoming seires with them later in the week……

10 freaking games lost in a row. Amazing. 80% of the Giants fan base would have committed suicide if that had happened to us……

Somehow Bonehead has managed a shaky pen into 27-13, best save percentage, and fewest inherited baserunners scoring ( in the NL)

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 6, 2010 at 4:07 pm

He’s on a strikeout binge, idiot. His worst slump of the season. You do anything to get on base if you’re the only speedster on the team. Bunting for a hit when you’re in a slump is basic baseball…

Not that they’re not putting enough pressure on themselves, but this win really amps it up on the Padres. Gutty stuff. As I wrote last night, everyone’s getting comfortable in their role–Nate tonight. Pitching and defense outstanding, offense timely. In year’s past, you regularly had the feeling the team was done after five innings if we were behind. This year, it might be they need to get past a certain pitcher to get going. But there’s a resilience there this year I haven’t seen with an SF club in very long time. Way to go guys!

Boy, these September call-ups are a wild card unto themselves. Nats’ Danny Espinosa and Marlins’ Adalbert Mendez have stellar performances today. Funny, I don’t remember Espinosa in the slightest at Triple A Syracuse. Must’ve been too busy moon-eyeing Strasburg.
