90 Wins and Counting
Well, last night they won their 90th, my total number from Opening Day. Hopefully I will not be nailing it cold this year (as I did last year 🙂 ). I usually don’t read any other blog besides this one and Baggs’ but I have been poking around other sites lately and it blows my mind how negative Giants fans are to this team. There are “fire sabean” guys all over the place. The freaking team has the 2nd most wins in the National league and there are still haters out there. Unbelievable.
Baseball is a game that is linked to failure. The best hitters in the game fail around 70% of the time. It’s EASY to find a player to complain about or a manager to second guess. But now? Why now? I don’t have the slightest problem in the world admitting when I am wrong. I’ve posted several mea culpa’s here this year (Torres, Bochy to name two) and I did it early on I didn’t stubbornly hold on to an opinion that was incorrect. I guess that’s why the negativity about the team is still out there– people that want to just inanely hold on to their original perspective despite damning evidence to the contrary….
Having said all that, I am dead set against the pitching change that now has the rotation going Cain-Zito-Sanchez. If Bum takes care of business tonight we only need to win one vs the Padres but if Cain doesn’t do it do we really want to put it in Zito’s hands on Saturday? And then face a do or die must win Sun? Unappealing scenario…..
All we need to do is win the next four straight series. Is that too much to ask?
if the pitchers keep it up…you could feel confident.
…that’s been the formula all month. Seems to be working!
funny, scoring less with the use of the hr more…tribute to the pitchers…22/23 3 runs or less…
I want homers. I want homers that wanna win…
Go Cubbies~~~!
enjoy your california afternoon, gentle people
see ya for orange friday
Bleep!
When the Giants clinch tomorrow, be sure to pour some beer on your own head, my friend.
Only the cheap stuff, but of course.
Guess whose 26 birthday is tomorrow, on #OrangeFriday? Hint: He will be on the mound looking to clinch the NL West!
I’ve thought about this, with apologies to SanDog, if there’s a tie with FatHead I’m giving it to BiggieTete since SanDog has already won a unit. If there is a tie between you two, I will send SanDog a consolation gift to add to his system. Flavor will also receive a gift for hosting the contests.
I was locked up all day in meetings but I managed to sneak a few peeks at MLB.com– watching the pads now, their stadium looks about half full. Just a great day to appreciate what this team has become—easily my favorite since the ’87-’89 teams….
Twin I appreciate the offer, I really do, but u don’t need to send me anything. I do the blog for lots of reasons, personal reasons, that make all this extremely rewarding for me, especially right now..
Look, I gave a fucking computer to NIPPER, if I want to send something, I will. You can always stick it up someone’s ass.
Huh?
What is Jon Garland taking? Sure as hell glad this is the last time I have to see hitters whiff at his formerly hittable shit
Your bat is encased at my friends sports bar flanked by a racket signed by McEnroe and a wall signed by Keri walsh. Scott finally hit the big time. I hated to let it go cause I enjoyed swinging it during games but that’s a better place for it plus it gives me a reason to tell his story to the non-regs when I’m in there…
I’m glad the bat is there. I feared you were sending it back after your Email. That would have been a great insult.
Great idea regarding the computer, Twin. I just want the glory that comes with sticking the number stone cold.
I’m rocking the Yamid Haad jersey to work tomorrow to commemorate the momentous series.
Thanks for understanding. I should have made that a tie breaker before. I’ll send you something cool if you tie.
Cubs take the lead in the 9th.
AG K’s-one more out and the tie is clinched.
It’s over.
Only one win needed
sd wild card hopes took a blow tonight…
Magic Number 1! 93 wins looking real good…San Dog and I I think need 15 more runs…
well, we only needed one more win before this, but pretty cool that we have, at worst, a tie breaker to play on Mon. Talk about a no pressure weekend. It’s gonna be all over anyway tomorrow night…..
Twin, I’m surprised you thought I would send the bat back but I can kinda understand since I asked you for your mailing address last week. I re-taped it so I could swing it better and then just decided it belonged in a sports bar since, you know, Cooperstown probably didn’t have a spot for it…….
I wish I had something to send to you Twin and San Dog if there is a tie. I just dont have a lot of sports memorabilia…I just have my Willie Mays signed Sports Illustrated with him on the 1963 cover and that is in my sons’ room…and not going anywhere!
Hey GH, are you guys getting this storm up in DC? We’ve been getting slammed the last few days here. It is making Earl look like a drizzle with just a breeze.
Unless there are no plans for him for the postseason, I still propose that Xits should go tomorrow. With Cain, Sanchez, Lincecum behind him, if they can’t win one, they don’t fucking deserve it. It would be a vote of confidence and just maybe the shot in the arm from Bochy that Zits needs.
I am totally down with that view. The only reason Cain should go is he gets an extra day of rest prepping for the #2 slot in the playoff. And I think the pressure thing on Zito if the Saturday game means something outweighs that. I just think Bochy wants to nail it down tomorrow night, step on the Pads throats while their confidence is shot, and not fool around into the weekend…
I got to get a whiff of the post-game on the radio and sounds like tomorrow night is going to be the night to be at ATT…giving out towels? The crowd should be in a frenzy.
I just realized today that my oldest kid and die-hard Giants fan was only 4 the last time we were in the playoffs, so he has no memory of what the playoffs are like and the intensity. I want the Phillies now for the Pennant!
Flav, the fantasy league at least looks like it will go down to the Final Day….
1
Uno.
Hopefully will catch you guys tomorrow for the clincher…
Is anyone else wondering how many times that Fire Sabean Now guy got his ass kicked this month?
Is that the guy that printed up t-shirts? Guys like that get trampled by all the people jumping on the bandwagon. And then he jumps on the bandwagon, too.
My guess is that he has a shit load of those shirts left. Maybe all the homeless folks will be wearing them next year.
Cubbies take 3 of freekin 4 from Pads. The Pads definitely must’ve had some huge puckering after watching the Gyros win today’s game. That is some hardass baseball by the Cubs when those games didn’t really mean anything to them. Quade gets that manager job, if it were my decision. And if I’m ever back to Wrigley for a game, I’m buying a couple Old Style for the Cub fans next to me (if they aren’t arses) as a token of thanks for the Cub performance this week…
Old Style 16oz sold to you while sitting in your seat at Wrigley. Now that’s living.
totally agree. I’ve actually become a teeny tiny bit of a Cubs fan this week. What that team did in SD will get remembered for a long time. How many teams just roll over? Like, all of them?
Richard is one of the guys who was yukking it up like the Pads had already won it back in August. Be nice to pin the clincher on his smirky puss.
That was some fine pitching by Marmol in the ninth today. Mowed down the 3,4,5, including a strikeout of Gonzales on a nasty slider. I remember Gonzalez being one of the guys who was loosey goosey, having a good ol’ time several weeks ago.
i remember that twin, specifically a tv shot of him coming off the mound into the dugout. Ha ha motherfucker. What now?
and I shouldn’t say I’ve become a Cubs “fan”, that’s incorrect. I could give less than 2 shits about their team. But I honor and respect their manager and his players for what he did in SD this week.
In fact, now that I think of it, Gonzalez killed a rally by hitting into a doubleplay earlier in that game. He has shaved off his facial hair to try to generate some luck, I guess, but he still had a frustrating game.
Actually, there might be more pressure on the Giants at this point. Didn’t SD pull this off vs. LA a few years ago? And if they don’t lock it up tomorrow, how is Saturday w/Zito gonna feel? Bochy is betting his psychological chips on Cain.
Bochy is obviously setting up his PS rotation with the Cain move to Fri but now I’ve decided I like it. Nail that win down now when the pressure is off, they have two games after him (3 technically). And if you are trying to nail a win down, who do you want pitching the game? Plus, it’s his freaking birthday. FRI Orange jerseys…..I am betting every single last dollar I have in my sportsbook account on the Giants tomorrow…….
To quote Marv “Spank Me While I Wear Lingerie” Albert: “YES!”
Remember the NY Post headline, Pawlie?
“Marv Gets Pink Slip”
so ye came around….
Alls I’m sayin’ is that in a season of TORTURE, I wouldn’t expect it to suddenly get easy now…
Flav, no shame. I’ve always been a bit of a Cubs fan. No shit. There’s something about perennial losers with great players, a great ballpark and fans that I like. Ernie Banks for Chrissake.
Plus, I was in two productions of Bleacher Bums
Don’t forget Wonderful Willie Smith…
What the fuck does the Fresh Prince have to do with anything?
And then there’s the San Diego Padres new theme tune:
One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It’s the loneliest number since the number one
Just got the LCD monitor in today. I may have misspoken- it’s a 22″ wide screen, I might have said 23″. Sue me. Bait and switch…
22 instead of 23??!!
Oh, you are *such* a *fucking* asshole!!!!
I’m just like…I’m so like…I don’t know… I am so FUCKING PISSED
Michael…your philanthropy is respected by us all.
And we thank you.
No need to apologize for anything.
No one, when it comes to computers…knows what the fuck you are talking about anyway
…..with the exception of Nipper
Pinch me. Am i awake? Re-roofed my kitchen this afternoon while the game was on, so missed most of it on this superlative, sunny, deep blue sky day here in the Northwoods. Had a good feeling about it as per my post this morning. After the 8th, with that 4-1 lead, i even (gasp!) turned off the puter and drove off to the nearest watering hole for a couple Grain Belts where it was Happy Hour. Fitting.
Getting home from the bar i was pretty beat from a busy day, checked in on the big “W” and hit the sack for a couple hours. Back to the puter and DAGOS LOSE. Done in by the revivified Cubbies. Wanna know how good the Giants are? We took two of three hard-fought games from them just a few days back in Wrigley!
Even put in a few words (few for me, anyway) at the Splash by way of rounding third and heading Home to the Flap. Not many doomers there this evening for some odd reason. Any guesses as to why?
Padres got their backs to the wall. Tomorrow night (Orange Friday) they get to face that Alabama countryboy on his motherfriggen 26th Birthday. Anyone think he might not have just a smidgeon of motivation with the chance to nail down the Division against toothpaste Richard?
We had a pretty big party against the Dodgers on my birthday two weeks back. It was a flippen fiesta. Let’s have a much, much bigger one to open the month of October so Matt the Horse can celebrate in high style.
Go Halloween Machine!
Even put in a few words……..
—————————————————————————
Yeah. That’ll happen.
Just fucking with you stix. Always love your posts
Be honest, Ted. You’re just trying to find someone to re-roof your kitchen real cheap.
Yeah, I’m sort of perplexed about how moving Cain up does anything for the postseason rotation. The series wouldn’t start until Wednesday at the earliest, and probably Thursday. So, the No. 2 guy could pitch on SUNDAY and still make his scheduled start on Friday.
I don’t mind Cain pitching tonight, of course, but what did I miss regarding the playoffs?
