Game 1, 6:37pm…….
Hmmmm…I’m kinda excited for the game tonight. Not really sure how I’m gonna burn the time off before first pitch—I have to go to work and, obviously, take care of my daughter’s basic needs, although by game time I’m not sure how high up we’re gonna go on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs pyramid:
maybe I’ll hit the gym, too…..
But other than all that, I don’t know how I’m going to be able to tolerate the seconds that are ticking off my life even as I type this. I’m sitting here with my dyed black head and my best Giants jersey hanging neatly pressed nearby and all I’m doing is waiting. Just waiting. Still waiting……..
I guess we can bide our time by marveling at the playoff roster at 10am. Then you guys get to fight it out for who can post the line up here first. That’s always fun. Beers will probably be getting popped open by many of you before the customary whistle blow at 5pm. And then we’re just about there, right?
Let’s just throw this out there: Our playoff history sucks. SF has never won a crown. We’ve ultimately lost every series we’ve played in– some were dramatic losses (the 2002 WS), others I barely remember (the 1997 series v Florida) and others were just plain weird (the ’89 Earthquake series). But in the end, they were all losses. But there have been amazing, wonderful playoff memories that I’ll never forget. My favorite playoff moment was the Will Clark grand slam bomb that he launched deep into the Chicago night sky. I was watching the game with some friends in my dorm room at Lewis and Clark and got so excited about that hit that I jumped out our 2nd story window, saved from major injury by one of Mother Nature’s trees. That’s the feeling i want to have to have tonight. And luckily, we live in a one level house so I’m good to go as far as that goes…….
Man, listening to Buster after the game and the kid is just so calm and composed. Calls a CG shutout for Timmy and it’s like, “yeah, that’s what I’m here to do.”
It can’t be that easy, it just can’t.
1 down 10 to go!!!!
D.J. If Timmy’s in there with Koufax and Gibson in the record books i’d say he’s keeping proper company.
Just realized I was present at the Giants’ last postseason victory (the aforementioned Schmidt shutout). Edgardo pulled a key bunt and hit one off the wall in that game, I believe.
Anyway … enjoy it fellow Giants fans. And it need be only 21 hours until we start another one. A lot less than 7 years.
I’m glad Lincecum’s hair is good and long. We’ll see some nice photos of the Freak on sports pages tomorrow. The Giants Way.
Howa about CSNY’s “Almost Cut My Hair” for Tim’s entrance music, Xoot?
He’s flying his Freak flag!
the passage with “freak flag fly”? Sure.
Wasn’t that David’s song?
Crosby all the way.
With Cox going all out with his best relievers tonight and Timmy throwing the CG shutout, prospects for Cain against Hanson are looking pretty decent. Hanson is good but he’s been a bit spotty lately and is not nearly usually as tough as Lowe was tonight. After his case of the birthday bluuz Matt the Horse should be ready to make atonement tomorrow and prove that the Giants have the best one-two in baseball.
Hanson may be sporting a shiner tomorrow night. He hit a foul that whanged him in the eye in batting practice today. They say he’s okay. Maybe he’ll be a bit gun-shy tomorrow. Should Cainer pull it off the lights will really go down in Georgia. Kinda fitting that the winning run was scored by a Georgia peach. Cox has won enough. Braves dominated the 90’s. Could be there’s a new big dog in town.
The beauty of winning the first game of the series. You only have to win every other one, to win the whole fucking thing.
10 more me buck Os.
what a tone tim has set! you can actually start to see matt coming out and dominating. sanchez doing his thing with wilson waiting in the wings.
can we actually leave the “torture” behind us?
would that it were so.
You guys see the headline over at sfgiants.com? Somebody’s got a copy of Chapter 3 from the tome Sports Page Rhetoric– i.e., The Magic Triangle: Metaphor, Hyperbole and Pun. Anyway, the headline is:
“14K diamond! Lincecum sparkles in gem”
LinCY became the 12th pitcher in post season history to rack up 14 or more strikeouts in a game. Counting the early World Series games in the beginning of the 1900’s that’s a lot of pitchers and a lot of games. He may not have that no-no yet, but a two-hit, one walk complete game shutout was good enough for tonight. Roger Clemens was the last one to do it. A Lincecum-Halladay matchup could be one for the ages.
The Braves and their fans probably don’t know what hit them. One blown call by an ump(congrats to your 1st SB ever Buster) and a grounder that squeaks through(way to go Cody Ross) and Boom, you lose! Welcome to my world all you Braves fans.Hope you are prepared for it to happen two more times.
L i n c e cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was just a treat to watch tonight. Timmy was just… Jesus, I can’t find the words. You guys saw it, Timmy was just “on.” A pleasure to see him work his magic.
I’m really glad Bochy let Timmy finish the deal. Not because I screamed for it, OK, maybe a little, but because it was just the right thing to do. Timmy earned the right to finish what he started. And goddammit, he finished the sumbitch but good.
I love winning!
ditto
The 14K diamond hed reminds me of what the Washington Post did for Stephen Strasburg’s debut. Stephen who?
Ah, well. Maybe that’s chapter 4–The Perfect Circle: Understated Exaggeration
