A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Game 1, 6:37pm…….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 7, 2010

Hmmmm…I’m kinda excited for the game tonight. Not really sure how I’m gonna burn the time off before first pitch—I have to go to work and, obviously, take care of my daughter’s basic needs, although by game time I’m not sure how high up we’re gonna go on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs pyramid:

http://tinyurl.com/32l6mha

maybe I’ll hit the gym, too…..

But other than all that, I don’t know how I’m going to be able to tolerate the seconds that are ticking off my life even as I type this. I’m sitting here with my dyed black head and my best Giants jersey hanging neatly pressed nearby and all I’m doing is waiting. Just waiting. Still waiting……..

I guess we can bide our time by marveling at the playoff roster at 10am. Then you guys get to fight it out for who can post the line up here first. That’s always fun. Beers will probably be getting popped open by many of you before the customary whistle blow at 5pm. And then we’re just about there, right?

Let’s just throw this out there: Our playoff history sucks. SF has never won a crown. We’ve ultimately lost every series we’ve played in– some were dramatic losses (the 2002 WS), others I barely remember (the 1997 series v Florida) and others were just plain weird (the ’89 Earthquake series). But in the end, they were all losses. But there have been amazing, wonderful playoff memories that I’ll never forget. My favorite playoff moment was the Will Clark grand slam bomb that he launched deep into the Chicago night sky. I was watching the game with some friends in my dorm room at Lewis and Clark and got so excited about that hit that I jumped out our 2nd story window, saved from major injury by one of Mother Nature’s trees. That’s the feeling i want to have to have tonight. And luckily, we live in a one level house so I’m good to go as far as that goes…….

The Jints have to win tonight. I just got a check for work done in August (yay, the long wait is over) and i received a fez that my brother sent me from his trip to Turkey. I am wearing a fez. You cannot argue with a man wearing a fecking fez. You just cannot. I feel like a Sultan. The Sultan of Swing. Or Swat.

To me Texas is not merely a surprise but an out and out shocker. Don’t follow the DeRangers much (particularly because n’ onaccounta the guy who was the face of their ownership group some years ago); but it does appear that they have gone and done the totally unexpected and developed a creditable pitching staff. To me that’s about as outre as the Padres becoming Murderers’ Row redux.

Question is whether or not their P.S. is deep enough to handle the Evil Empire. Much as i favor the Twins, they sorely lack a true ace who can go into shutdown mode. Same is true for the Reds.

You’re right, Kat. Here’s the correct one, Conrad is at 2B.

Infante 3B, Heyward RF, Lee 1B, McCann C, Gonzalez SS, Diaz LF, Conrad 2B, Ankiel CF, Lowe RHP

Giants should have a huge advantage on the infield.Braves had to move Conrad to second base cause he sucked at 3rd making alot of bonehead errors (mostly throwing errors)recently. Then they move Infante to 3rd and he starts fucking up too with balls through his legs. The Braves are gonna miss the D that Chipper and Prado provided. And their experience.

Interesting fact: In the last 4 years 15 of 16 teams to win first-round opening games have gone on to advance to the league championship series. The lone exception was the 2006 Detroit Tigers who lost the opener at Yankee Stadium and then won 3 in a row.Freak gets it done tonight, great odds that we move on.

    Baggerly’s update on Guillen:
Guillen told ESPN Deportes that his neck pain is profound. I ran his comments through Babelfish and cleaned it up a bit: “It is lamentable, but I cannot do anything on the matter. I was excited to play in the Division Series, but the pain is very profound. One plays this sport to reach the postseason and the dream is to play in the World Series. With luck, I could play more ahead.”

      • zumarust's avatar zumarust said, on October 7, 2010 at 3:06 pm

Hey, the Giants made the playoffs, so I’ll be very positive, obviously. But something about the Guillen thing stinks. He stunk enough to be dropped from the playoff roster, but he was still allowed to start a bunch of critical games at the end of the season.
It’ll be a non-issue because the Giants made the playoffs. That’s fine with me. Guillen who?

  12. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on October 7, 2010 at 3:10 pm

New York Mercenaries are handing it to the Twins again. Primary culprit is Lance Berkman. Wonder if the Stros got anyone useable (within a couple years anyway) for him. Not all Mercs, though. Ol Andy Pettit has held the Twinks to a couple of runs up to approaching Rivera time. Last Hurrahs for that pair, perhaps?

Due to my impending move, I no longer have DirectTv connected, thus this fucked up situation . . .

Not certain what the time delay is on http://www.tvants.com, but it’s fucking weird getting Japanese ESPN (or Chinese . . . WTF) commercials and then back to the game with (THANK GOD) english commentators (Jon Miller???) . . . A bit discombobulating to say the least.

How the hell did anyone think that Buddy Holly and the Crickets were a black group? He sounded about as black as Jerry Mathers.
