At 4:57pm, the World ENDS!
Or apparently that’s what it will feel like to some of you if we lose today based off the posts yesterday and some emails that I got. I guess I’m with the minority, I just am not gonna be devastated if they don’t make it to the World Series. And it won’t be a choke-job, either. Philly is a very good team, if they can beat Lincecum/Dirrrrrty/Cain successively, more power to them. I am still just too busy enjoying the Hell out of post season baseball to sweat “what if?”
But I will tell you that despite hating them with a passion, I started growing a beard last Saturday. It’s just about grown full in and I WILL be dying it black if/when we make it to the World Series. Flavor doesn’t roll with the phony beard look…….
And if we don’t make it? I just shave this bad boy off and look back on one of the top three baseball seasons I have ever had the pleasure of watching as a Giants fan. Don’t *player hate*, my friends, *dominate* and if that doesn’t work for ya, or you don’t get it, then just go back to worrying about the sky caving in on you later tonight. If there’s a Game 7, instead of worrying about a loss, focus on the rare electricity and the feeling of finality that you get to experience for about 3 hours. You know what? I hope it does go 7……..
Bring it on, Philly.
Two stories of note this a.m. A Giants/Rangers WS ensures Benji a ring — with whoever wins. And Cody Ross’s arm (HBP the other day) is not good.
First light. A contractor whose bid I accepted in July failed to reseal my roof before the first big storm of the season — and that big god damned storm is wheeling in from the Pacific right now. So I’ve been drinking coffee and waiting for dawn. Time to climb up there with the bucket of wet-patch cement and save the fucking house. What a circumstance. I’m lucky to have something going on serious enough to take my mind off of the game for a few hours. Well, hope it’s just a few. . . .
Go Giants.
ugh, what a pain in the ass Xoot. Good luck. The Molina/Posey story just keeps getting better and better. But it’s really the only story line that will hold my interest if we make it that far. I really wanted to play the Yankees…….
Happy Elimination Day for any fellow Yankee haters out there! Although, if the Giants make it to the WS, I may regret that because the Rangers look pretty damn tough.
glad for Wash and Nolan Ryan. Lee and the kid shut down Yanks til Texas bats woke up, and they hit pretty well vs. Yanks PS. Joe and FO got some splainin to do.
Should SF be fortunate enough to get there, lot more guys to pay attention to than Benjie. It is funny how guys like Uribe, Huff, Burrell were wanted by absolutely no one and have made it this far, and A-Rod and his buddies get to watch the best of baseball season from the couch.
Oh, and it is time for some video evidence of the beard to be feared, Flav. Like the joke I used to hear Lamont and Tonelli make about the porn stars who dyed their nether region, “Carpet doesn’t match the drapes”?
Sunny today, low-mid 60s, a bit windy. Should be in the 50s for game time. Gotta run. Go get ’em Giants!
Fuck the Yankees. I didn’t want the Giants to play them in the WS. I wanted them to *watch* the Giants play *Texas* in the WS
Yeah Xoot, good luck with the roof.
Funny, last night I shaved the scraggly damn beard I had grown for a week.
I’m trying, but it’s hard to suppress the competitive fires. I WANT TO WIN, DAMMIT. So many years being disappointed have taken their toll. I remind myself of what’s important and it’s just baseball. Mindful of what Michael and others are going through helps keep perspective.
Before the game I’ll take a walk with the dog and do some deep breathing exercises, reminding myself it’s ok if it doesn’t happen. It’s been a great ride.
Right.
By the time Sanchez throws his first pitch, I just know I’m going to turn into a ‘snarrk’ raving lunatic for about 3 hrs.
You better turn it up a notch there, Flav. That happy to be here bullshit doesn’t fly when you’re sitting on half a century of disappointment. The 5,000 things that are more important in anyone’s life (even mine) can wait for now. GET ANGRY, GIGGETY!!!!
Just had a pretty surreal last hour. I went for a run down to town to pick up my car– all five people that ran past me said “go giants””, which I obviously reciprocated. Picked the car up and the guy hosing down the pavement in front of “First and Main” asked me if we were gonna do it tonight. Went into Draeger’s to pick up some of their sweeeeeeet bacon from the butcher and he started a five minute conversation about “torture” and how this HAS to go 7 games. Got in line and the old woman behind me told me she misses Barry Bonds. The check out guy, who is draped from top to bottom in giants gear, said he hopes it goes 7 because Draegers only let’s their employees dress up in schwag on game days……Admittedly, I was wearing a giants shirt, but I didn’t start even one of those conversations and literally every single person I interacted with this morning talked Giants with me. I know this will all be over soon, but the transformation of my community into what it is right now is stunning……
98 wins on the season and counting. Five to go brings the Giants 103, the same number they got in the regular season when the Braves mulcted Crime Dog from the Dagos and took 104. This time 103 wins it all.
Hey Flav,
I agree this has been an awesome, and somewhat unexpected postseason. That being said..NO WAY do I want a 7th game. Too much to chance (error from a 3rd baseman perhaps!). I am 45, and my dad is 75. I don’t want to be pulling a Red Sox nation and putting SI cover at a headstone. Lets get this done now.
Q…Can you talk about what it would mean to you to pitch your team to a potential World Series?
Jonathan Sanchez….It’s going to be great to get to the W/S.Never been there. We’ve got alot of guys on the team that never been there and to be able to do that,it’s going to be something special for me.
I like it.What I see there,is confident man,he’s not making predictions,he’s confident in his ability to get us there.Let’s end this Shit tonight!!!!! We don’t need no stinkin game 7.
Go Giants!!!
There’s Giants fever in the Central Valley, too. Not quite as much as the Bay Area probably, but it’s definitely here.
It must drive A’s fans crazy. Their team has won several World Series, but they’re just not all that much beloved. The A’s arrived in the Bay Area later, the early ’70s teams weren’t easy to warm up to because of Charlie Finley’s lack of promotion of the team and his overall prickly attitude that seemed to set the tone for their whole organization.
The late ’80s A’s were always the favored team, and lost two of those World Series to the underdog. And now it turns out that that team was a fraud anyway because of steroid use.
I don’t dig that Fishie dude on the Splash, but I kind of understand his bitterness. He’s an A’s fan, and he doesn’t feel part of a baseball community.
Why are the Giants hated by some? Because we have a baseball community they are jealous of.
Seeing alot of stories saying that SF blew it in game 5 as if this thing is over now. Give me a break. It is hard to beat any ML club 3 straight and the phillies haven’t been to the NLCS 3 straight because they are lucky.
I haven’t poured through the season schedule but outside of the hot start to the second half I don’t remember a lot of big streaks by SF this year. They got it done in the second half by winning series after series. Win one. Drop one. Win 2. Drop 1. This is how SF has been doing it all year. I’m not nervous about today’s game. I am stoked. This club has taken us all on an awesome journey since spring. I don’t think they’re done yet.
Yup.
It’s been dink, dank, dunk all year
Why mess with what works?
Zum, I don’t know about that. I live in Sac town and was in R15 bar and restaurant on Thursday, and nothing but orange and black, the Bar Tenderess (is that word) had dyed her hair orange!!
This is a post from a Philly fan from a Philadelphia news paper, and was thought there were doomers on the splash!! Every town has one.
Vinny_Fumo
CLIFF LEE VS. TIM LINCECUM > HISTORY WILL BE MADE…. MEANWHILE THE PATHETIC UNDERACHIEVING PHILLIES WILL BE CLEANING OUT THEIR LOCKERS AND THEIR MINDLESS SHEEP FANS WILL BE BUSY WATCHING ANOTHER LOSING SEASON OF IGGLES FOOTBALL!

Watch sports videos you won’t find anywhere else
Reno is definately a Giants town. Kind of funny to me when your neighbors tell you one day how they hate everything about California and then the next day they’re rolling with the Orange and Black representing the most liberal city in the state. I don’t care though. There is plenty of room for all the fans that want to get on board. Come on in. The waters’ fine.
Even when he called the Padre series,Dirty put it on himself , it’s not like Tim or Matt was opening the series. If he’s got a litle cockinesss in him now, good on him, he lacked that for a couple years….
Torres/Fruckie: Bip is right on this, those guys get on, Huff and Buster see fast balls….Andres has to make Oswalt get the ball up. And run..I expect Uribe/Renteria to man the left side tonight.
I agree about Uribe/Renteria
One weakness the Rangers do have is their bullpen (IMO), except for maybe Feliz. If you can get to the set-up guys, they can be beat. We saw that in game 1 of the ALCS. And I still think their back of the rotation guys are beatable too. The key will be to make the starters work and get ’em out of the game ASAP. That and we’d have home field advantage. Yeah, their offense is very good, but so is our pitching.
GO GIANTS!!
Twin, I was going to agree about Torres and Franchez but those 2 got on base 6 times last game— in fact they were like THE ONLY guys getting on base. Huff and Posey still didn’t do much– can’t remember what type of pitches they were seeing……..
Once the Giants play Texas in the World Series,in lieu of various people throwing out the first pitches (that’s so yesterday) before each game,I think that Nolan Ryan (Rangers President) and Will Clark (Giants roving ambassador or whatever they call him) should re-enact Will’s first ML AB in 1986,that resulted in a Will Clark HR!
Won’t happen but good idea
please oh please oh please oh please oh pleeeeeaaasssseeee!!!!!
Please Win!!!!!!
I would have started the fat little bastard, but I’m not the manager. Jesus H. Christ does this lineup blow.
Torres cf, Sanchez 2b, Huff 1b, Posey c, Burrell lf, Ross rf, Uribe 3b, Renteria ss, J Sanchez p
NO Whitey.
NO Whitey. Every time I read that, I think Billy Benedict is missing from a Bowery Boys movie
Didn’t want to think I abandoned you guys on this potentially momentous occasion. I’ve been busy all morning with the TVG handicapping tournament. In other words, I’ve built up my tolerance for failure should things not go our way tonight.
But I think they will. I hope they will. I pray to God they will. Because I sure in the hell won’t be able to tolerate a Game 7. Please do it tonight for everyone’s sake. Especially mine.
I won $10 from someone last night who was convinced that whitey wasn’t on the ps roster and that panda was the back up catcher….
Phucking Phillies philp-phlopped Rollins and Victorino.
SS Rollins, 3B Polanco, 2B Utley, 1B Howard, RF Werth, CF Victorino, LF Ibanez, C Ruiz, RH Oswalt.
That’s the toughest decision Bumpkin Manuel has to make. Compare that to the decisions bochy has to make, their jobs aren’t even comparable…..
Tough decisions on who gets to play. For a guy like Bochy, those decisions will be the ones for which he will be most remembered. Take no prisoners seems to be the cry.
If only someone knew how to bottle anxiety and sell it at a high price, he’d be rich.
Lineup is okay except i think he shouldda switched Huff and Ross around. Maybe Dragon has convinced Bochy that he’s ready to atone bigtime for the other evening. Yes, Torres and Franchez did a bunch against Halladay and if they carry that spark over to this evening they could set the stage for some fireworx. Drrrrty can’t be picky, picky tonight. If he bears down and throws strikes it will end with Game Six.
No he should not bat Ross third. Period. Get over it. LU is fine. Period.
Is the pitching matchup the reason Panda’s not starting? He seems to have his stroke back, and that play on Halliday’s bunt was a lot harder than people made it seem…
according to Schulman: “UPDATE: Manager Bruce Bochy confirmed the main reasoning for the lineup switch was defense.
“It makes us a little stronger on the left side of the infield as far as defense,” he said. “Edgar has faced Oswalt quite a bit, too, and he’s been swinging the bat better.”

err… meaning the lineup switch of Sandoval out, Renteria in…
Is it because of the pitching matchup that Panda’s not in the lineup? I thought he was getting his stroke back pretty nicely. And, that play in Halliday’s bunt wasn’t as easy as some people made it seem…
Go Giants!!!
“Battle Buster” ($8.00) just won the 8th at Hawthorne. He was #4—-clean up!
I’m excited and nervous as hell. Let’s do this thing. Let’s do this thing tonight.
Good omen
Let’s understand this LU crap-right now they can bat Burrell 1, Torres 5, Huff 8. It means less than shit. Score one more than the Phils.
Free advice for Bruce Bochy:
If you pull Jonathan Sanchez with the lead,do NOT hand him the game ball!!!!
The NLCS prize is packed and ready to ship. And there will be a World Series prize either way. How high end might depend on whether they get there. I think Dirty does it tonight. 4-2.
I’ve started drinking heavily! I just got a promotion so my wife splurged on the good stuff, glenlivet 18 yr old. It’s magic inside. I’m going to need all of it’s magical properties to survive the evening.
So here we go. Go Gmen, Go Dirrty, Pat the bat, you’re due!!
Bring on the rain, bring on the fucking Phillies. It’s time to get this done.
It goes without saying how pathetic I think our lineup is tonight. Couple that with the fact that sitting on our bench in the biggest game of the year is the worst catcher in the history of modern league baseball–one Eli “NO Whitey” Whiteside and I have no idea how we’re gonna win tonight. That said…
Score first, score often, get down and Dirrrty and WIN the goddamn N.L. Pennant tonight.
GO GIANTS! ! !
That’s how you started. Nice going Yungo! Keep the line moving Fruckie!
The exact moment a team surrenders was fun to spot last night. You could see the Yankee duggout, the faces droop and shoulders slump, the lights go out. Wonder what inning we’ll see that tonight?
Where’s the H&R, the steal attempt? Do something. I guess it’d help if our 2 and 3 hitter could make contact.
Jesus H. C’mon Buster.
That’s only the second time I’ve seen Buster fail to check his swing. Damn. Oswalt seems to be throwing low FBs to get ahead in the count. He’ll switch that up next inning. This is a fucking chess game with him.
Oswalt is playing chess, while Sanchez sits at the checkers table. Jesus. H. Christ.
Might see Bumgarner real soon. Sooner than anyone wanted. Fuck.
Just spotted a crack in my ceiling.
Probably nothing to worry about.
The enigma that is J. Sanchez.
Come ON! Enigma? He’s been better than the “aces” for 6 weeks minimum.
That had 4 or 5 nothing written all over it. Got lucky on Werth…
This game is fucking over
Bye now.
Well that was sure not the way you want to start. If there’s any positive Dirty threw only 24 pitches this 1st inning, compared to 35 last time. But then again he gave up 1 more run.
Oswalt is throwing some HIT ME pitches, just like Doc did in Game 5. We can’t keep missing ’em.
Ross got a little unlucky. Oswalt is getting some balls up. Lose this IH fuckwad, BTW.
Alot of punch from our 7-8 hitters..Uribe .091 Renteria .083.Shit atleast Fat boy is hitting .250.
Sanchee took some of the best cuts first time thru. Nice hit. Let’s do it.
Oswalt not looking that sharp. wow, Andres is back!
WTF was Sanchez thinking? Why wasn’t he running? *sigh*
new game!
Tie this cocksucker up!!!
phillies are shit in the field.
This inning is ALL fucked up. But it’s 2-2 by hook or crook.
I’m starting to feel it. the exquisite pain that ultimately becomes pleasure. it’s just what they do.
i’d hate ’em if i didn’t love ’em.
the sad part is i tried to post that before the inning got started. prophetic, maybe so.
How bizarre can innings get? Wow.
What a inning! Two runs, we’ll take it. Two flubs that inning. Sanchez only going halfway to first on a ball the centerfielder is going to have to make a Willie Mays World Series catch on, and Flannery sending Torres home.
2 huge runs, though. New ballgame.
All right- shutdown inning!
Bizarre inning.Shit what’s happened to Torres speed? Should of scored easily on Huff’s hit, shit it even hit the mound on the throw home.Oh well caught a break on Posey’s dribbler,so it evens out.
Did Torres slow down approaching third, thinking he was going to be held up?
I’m still not quite sure what really happened. Nevertheless, we NEED a shut down inning here, Dirrrty.
fuck JSanchez
Looked like Torres never got a good jump from second,he hesitated.
Are you ######### kidding me?
Man, Sanchez can’t seem to put stuff where he wants it. I don’t think Bochy is going to watch much more of this. That was not intentional, asshole. And leave the fucking ball alone.
Give ’em the hook, skipper. He’s lost.
Dirrrrty dozen’t.
Utley should have NEVER touched that ball…that’s horseshit!
Sanchez really needs to stay out of the prediction business. He had a comment yesterday in a press conference about how much fun it was going to be to be in the World Series. He doesn’t pitch well after predictions.
Nostra-doofus…
This has all the makings of a brouhaha before it’s over. No fucking way he was throwing at Utley.
Maybe even a donnybrook…
I’m surprised Dirty didn’t get pulled earlier, actually. He was fucking God awful tonight. Thank God we’re tied now and we can hit against Ozzwad.
