A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Dear Barry: Please Don’t Pitch Today

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 3, 2011

Unfortunately, all signs are pointing to Zito taking the hill this evening at 5pm. Bad idea. I’m sure that Barry is saying all the right things to the medical staff. He’s a gamer. Game on. When your skills have eroded to near career ending I guess all you have left is your *game face*.

There is an awful lot of manly-manly-ness in baseball. There’s no crying in baseball. There’s no whining in baseball. And for the most part you wouldn’t ever beg out of the starting line up because you feel sore…..

But this is different. Zito was in a major car crash. His neck and back, at the very least, have to be awfully stiff and sore right now. For a pitcher, stiff and sore is not exactly the way your back is supposed to feel when you take the mound. Besides his obvious range of motion issues in his wind up, how do you think he’s going to cover balls hit near the mound? How’s he going to cover first base? Jeez, how’s he even supposed to check the runner at first base if he’s having trouble turning his neck?

This is a guy who was throwing 82 mph fastballs in Spring Training. And now he’s been in a car crash. That new ‘stash isn’t expected to improve anything either. I am firmly entrenched in the “ABZ (Anybody But Zito) Camp”. I would have wished to see Zito skip a start and move Bumgarner up to pitch tonight. Hell, the could have called Voglesong up to pitch and I would have preferred it. ABZ, baby.

I love being wrong so let’s see Zito prove me so. But I think what we are going to see is a guy gingerly take the mound armed with his game face and little else and leave about an hour later in the third inning after giving up a bunch of walks/hits and runs.

Don’t ever listen to what the player says. They all lie. He’s not fine…….

Yeah, I was thinking that when you are a broadcaster for a major network, you need to put aside your biases!! Oral does not know how to do that. He should be a Dodger anouncer not and ESPN announcer!!

Yeah. What a contrast. After Belt lays off a very tough 3-1 pitch, Tejada whacks at the first shitty pitch he sees…

  6. unca chuck's avatar unca chuck said, on April 3, 2011 at 7:48 pm

Fuck!!! Belt works the count, makes the pitcher come in, he doesn’t, and draws the walk.

    Tejada golfs the 1st fucking ptich . . .

WTF was Tejada thinking swinging at the first pitch after all that preceded him?
Fucking dumber than a stump. The pitch was 6 inches off the ground and off the plate. Brutal shit. He coulda learned something from the rookie who knows a little something about plate discipline.

I’ve seen enough of Mota’s shit as well. When BW comes off the DL I’d like to see Mota down as well as Dan for Kroon. No, check that. I’m being a little hasty there. Runzler gets another chance. Buts one more FU and down he goes. Can’t be doing that crap.

I was driving home listening to the Radio when Zito was done and Kruk says “Zito did a great job”. Yeah put your team in the hole in the first inning that is doing a great job!! So at the end of the first inning Zito is sitting in the dugout and has a Homer Simpson moment. Doh, I was suppose to put up zero’s in that inning. Guess I will start doing that next inning.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on April 3, 2011 at 8:04 pm

Yeah, Kevin, I heard that one. Not one of Kruk’s finer moments. 3 runs outta the gate and a shaky 6th is an OK start. It ain’t “great”…

Has anyone else noticed how fucked up the MLB closers are thus far this season? Broxton, Axton, Marmol, Franklin, and Rodriguez have all blown saves in less than a week. I know that I am missing a couple of more here too. Reminds me of the Casey Stengel quote, “Can’t anybody here play this game?”

    • unca chuck's avatar unca chuck said, on April 3, 2011 at 8:14 pm

Yeah, the douchebag from Houston. Ryan? WAS on my FB team.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on April 3, 2011 at 8:17 pm

Blade, I don’t think Broxton has technically blown a save this yr. but he’s been far from perfect.
I get the worst of both worlds. He gives up runs yet still gets the S. All 3 this weekend against our defending World Champs. I think I got so many dodgers of my team that I’m starting to bleed blue. Either that or a heavy ragu courtesy of Tommy Lasagna.

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 3, 2011 at 8:24 pm

        Yeah Den, Broxton is a lucky SOB . . . has a 6 ERA for the 3 saves he has . . . UNFRICKINBELIEVABLE.

Yeah, add Ryan to the list or did you mean Ryan Franklin of St. Louis Chuck? I did list that fucker (how could I forget – him and Marmol are on my FL team).

I called 7-5 or 8-6. Unfortunately, the Gmen were on the 5 instead of the 7 side of things. 1 -3 start isn’t a time for a coronary. Get a little well against the Pads, and things will be OK. This team will score more runs than last year’s team. The defense may not be as good, tho’…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 3, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Snarkk, you talking about the G-Men’s defense just reminded me of another Casey Stengel quote . . . “Amazing strength, amazing power – he (Ron Swoboda) can grind the dust out of the bat. He will be great, super even wonderful. Now, if he can only learn to catch a fly ball.”

Never in my approaching 57 years of Giants fandom, have i heard of a Giants team with so much battle-back spirit to them as this squad showed tonight. First, little by little, they pulled Zito off the hook. Not that Barry did not do some heavy pulling on his own. Awesome comeback. Then, after The Runzlerbump and down by four, these warriors just kept coming back at em.
Belt’s professionalism was beyond amazing. It was exactly, precisely the right move, team being down by four. Too bad Methuselah didn’t show a fraction of the Kid’s baseball wisdom. Giants stayed in the game till the final out. Could be Buster was trying to dink one through the hole on the RH side, but missed his mark by just a tad. They don’t call it a “game of inches” for shits n giggles. Had that ball gone where Buster was hoping, it would have been a one-run game with a man on base. Fattso wouldda been shitting little green b-b’s.
So we lost. BFD. We had a pile of L’s amassed early last season and ended up the Champs. Team busted their buts like champs tonight. They showed the kinda indomitable spirit which will win big over the long-haul. Book it!

I like Bozo’s theory about Belt, etc.
Tejada has “new whipping boy” written all over him.
Valentine sounds like he’s gotta take a shit but is holding it in.

  33. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on April 3, 2011 at 8:59 pm

No excuses for Buster, he did exacty what he wasn’t supposed to do: rolled it over. In it’s own way it was as bad an AB as Tejada’s..

I can’t speak for Twin’s dosage, but the early Kentucky Derby favorite, Uncle Mo, the son of Indian Charlie out of the Arch mare Playa Maya has a dosage (index) of 2.20.

Maybe Twin and Mo share the same medication. Mo(e), Larry, Curly and Twin was the fourth stooge.

Brandon is staying . . . He would have to show absolutely no clue during his ABs and he is far, far, far from that. The other 4 reasons for him staying are: 1. Sending him down wouldn’t help his psyche (I keep thinking about the support Mays got from Durocher when Mays had a slow start; and, remember, Belt is battling. Not certain Mays had similar ABs when he struggled initially); 2. Reiterate what RT said above – he’s faced a tough staff, plus two lefties; 3. His defense is stellar and right now, the G-Men are stinking up the joint defensively; and, 4. It’s not like he’s the only one on the Giants not hitting.
