A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Ugly Loss in Chicago

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 14, 2011

Man, 14 strikeouts? F-O-U-R-T-E-E-N???? Remember when Fontenot was our hitting savior? That was last week right? He’s hitting .206 right now. And Miggy Te-nada has a .501 OPS. That’s pretty hard to score that low. I think you get three or four hundred OPS points just for putting on your uniform right…..

Several of you noticed Torres limping around the bases yesterday but I wasn’t able to find any follow up with that from any of our crack local scribes. I hope he’s ok……

Voggy goes tonight. National audience under the lights at Wrigley. As much as I felt like he would pitch well in his last home start I have the opposite feel tonight. If we throw a bunch of 0-4’s up there, tonight’s game will get ugly…….

    Hey Eric Karros!!
please shut up.. please shut up

yes, please shut THE FUCK up. He’s as bad as…..i dunno? Maybe a guy who annoys you the same way Walton does except he says even less relevant stuff? I think I’d rather listen to Walton do a baseball game than Karros and that is really saying something……

ha ha ha yes it is. But I agree

Voggy is showing me something once again. The dude puts guys on base sometimes but he works out of it. He’s gutty. Bumgarner could learn something from this guy’s disposition. And to do it in these conditions? Outstanding performance. If Zito comes back and doesn’t return to the rotation, the Giants have a very strange, uncomfortable, impending decision to make……

Your “Jeff Gillooly” scenario is starting to look a little more…plausible

  3. TedSpe's avatar TedSpe said, on May 14, 2011 at 6:25 pm

Rowand’s doing okay on defense today. But that squat looks even worse in the rain. Is rain like this harder on the defense or the hitters? Or is it a wash?

  4. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on May 14, 2011 at 6:26 pm

fuck it, I’ll go do it. Gimmie a bat. I won’t even actually do it, I’ll just run at him when he comes out of the sea with his surf board and scream crazy shit at him. He’ll run back into the ocean, start swimming and ultimately get eaten by about 10 sharks. This is a money plan……..

    • TedSpe's avatar TedSpe said, on May 14, 2011 at 6:30 pm

That is *so* money. The one possible hole in the plan? He might try to calm you down by chanting a few Hare Krishnas. If that happens…swing away

Voggy’s a #5, I don’t question that for a minute. But he’s clicking along, showing a lot of heart, and he’s basically the Anti-Zito. I just don’t see how Zito gets his job back at this point, barring an injury to the SP staff……..

Hey, Bozo. I saw your avatar (which tells me you made the most recent comment) and I go looking high and low on this page, and NO Whitey Bozo to be found. Again, I scroll up and down. NO Whitey luck. Then it dawns on me that you might have commented on something said earlier. Why? I don’t fucking know why. So, lo and be hold I finally find your comment on the prior page just to find out that Kevin Mitchell was your favorite Giant? I wasted a good goddamn 10 minutes trying to find your post and all I discerned was that you liked old #7. Are you fucking kidding me? You had nothing better to say than that?

Well guess what? I liked Kevin Mitchell, too.

DMD – Yup, just catching up. All I can say is you, Ted, Loo and Flav had some pretty funny stuff going on, on the previous page. And Mitch? Besides being my fav, that dude would (in his prime) fit on this ball club big time.

Barbara Billingsley goes 8 strong, gives up 1H, 1 UNEARNED run, strikeouts 8 and takes the L for the Bums.

Ain’t that a shame. A little heads-up. Should the schedule hold, our Giants will face Mr. Kershaw and Lady Barbara in LA. I need not remind you who has BOTH on their fantasy team. Not that I’d ever let anything like that interfere with my loyalty to the Giants.

Excuse me, gotta run. That’s Tommy Lasorda calling on line one…

Dodgers 1-hit the D-Backs, including 8 IP by Billingsley — and lose! Nice to see that happen to someone else, especially the Bums.

Buck is making a complete fool out of himself right now. He’s calling baseball a “young man’s game” now that amphetamines are now *out of the game*. I would have thought he meant steroids but he used the word like 5 times. Amphetamines have NEVER been out of the game. They’re more prevalent now than ever with the latest surge of Adderall prescriptions skyrocketing for mlb players. Kevin Frandsen got busted for Ritalin? Oh my god! The system’s working! First of all, Ritalin is nothing compared to Adderall. Secondly, any player worth his salt can get a prescription for Ritalin. Franny just isn’t smart. But for Buck to say what he said tonight is amazing. How out of touch is this guy??????????

Maybe he’ll be a one year wonder like another Ryan on the Giants—–the long forgotten Ryan Jensen. He won 13 in 2002, sat out the postsseason, then disappeared.

Had a feeling about SongBird clear back in ST. It had to do with his coming from the Giants system and then bringing us Schmidty in that trade with Pittsburgh. It also hinged on the long and torturous sojourn through Japan and then a couple years in the minors. Somewhere along the line he matured as a pitcher, learning those little somethings which came so quickly to guys like Greg Maddox ~ pitching smarts and all.

Giants do slow learners as well as fast-trackers. First it was the doubles machine, sparkplug Andres Torres. Now its Vogelsong. A little birdie told me its all good. CG shutout will look nice in the record book. Add another 3-game winner to that composite making up 21 wins for Best in the West.
Cubbies got all the breaks yesterday, balancing out the Giants incredible homestand. Today Chicago’s defense plus Vogelsong’s grit, together with some rain in the Windy City came up a winner. We’ll take it.

In case anyone’s still bummed over yesterday’s loss to the Cubs with Affeldt and Runzler letting the game get away; consider the case of the Rox losing 9-7 to the Dagos. After 6 innings Jhoulys (or however you spell it) Chacin had a nice, comfortable 7-1 bulge. Things got a bit out of hand in the 7th, with both Chacin and Colorado’s D. getting into the act and the mighty offense of the Pads plated four. Lindstrom gave up one hit and then bailed out the Rox.

Eighth inning and Betancourt surrendered a couple more runs, with SD tying the game. Comes the 9th and Colorado’s closer Huston Street gets a man on and then surrenders the game winner on a two run blast by ex-Rockie, Brad Hawpe. Meanwhile, after their starter got creamed for those 7 tallies by the Rox, Dago’s nasty bullpen stymied the Colorado offense.

So at this point i’m tending to agree with Twin that maybe Colorado is not the power they were cracked up to be. Padres may prove a bit of a spoiler now and again. LaBumbos have a few talented guys, but essentially there is a stinky mess in the Latrine. Snakes may be on the rise again and look to do a fair bit better than predicted. All in all though, Arizona probably does not have the depth to mount a solid run against a SF team once more playoff bound.

  23. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on May 14, 2011 at 8:03 pm

Colorado is our main nemesis, Stix. Chacin is a stud it was just a weird game. The Rockies biggest problem is that Ublado has a physical problem that is likely going to end with a DL stint. If he goes down, even for a few weeks, they’re toast. The D-backs are ok, the Dodgers have too much bad karma this year, and as I said on the first day of the season, the Padres will be finishing in last place this year……

I think a lot of folks had SD last..Rockies may be second but they won’t be close. BP only has us taking the division by five, I think it might hit double digits.
    Pay attention to Stix, Flavor.

Why are Giants are in first place despite being dead last in the ENTIRE LEAGUE in runs scored and near the bottom in every other offensive category?

    Depth.

Huge quality depth in pitching. Right now they go 5 deep in SP guys who are odds on to deliver a quality start. The bullpen depth is unreal. And think about what the lineup depth means. Despite injuries to top guys like Torres and Panda, and up-and-down the lineup hitting slumps, Bochy can almost always find someone to play the “hot hand” game with. Depth means that everybody has to compete for playing time – a big reason why post WS complacency hasn’t set in. It also means that Bochy can rest people, which will pay big dividends down the road this season.

Sabean and Evans deserve a ton of credit for building this team. Bochy deserves a shit-ton of credit for how he has utilized the depth. Good time to be a Giants fan.

I read the ChiTribune’s game story on tonite’s monsoon. The entire story was about the weather, Cub’s pitcher Davis. Five, that’s 5 lines, were about how the Giants fared and won the contest. We don’t know how good we have it with the local scribes…
