Turning the Page/Bochy Bashers/Vin Mazzaro…..
I thought that MacDog nailed it at the end of the last thread. No matter what you though of that play, Tim’s bad throw took the possibility of the double play out of the equation. I thought (and still think) that was a catchable ball. But it really had no bearing on the outcome of the game. Tim was terrible and I would also agree with Macdog that I haven’t seen Tim lose his composure like that since…..maybe the time he got pissed off at the Rockies for the “humidified” balls. But he was really more irritated than anything else and he seemed to feed off it that game. Last night, he fell apart…….
And with Dirrrrrty going tonight, I would be happy if he could just walk less than Tim did last night. I’ll take that and hope we have our hitting shoes on…..
For the Bochy detractors (and they were all over the airwaves last night and this morning): Are you serious? Calling out Bochy for leaving Tim in is uncalled for. The same people who are questioning his decision to leave him in to face CarGo need to also stand up and say they had complete faith in Jeremy Freaking Affeldt to get him out. Affeldt? He’s been horrendous lately. And Tim didn’t pitch that badly in that inning, with a good throw he already out of it with the double play. And the ball Tulo hit was almost caught by Franchez. It’s idiotic to rail on Bochy for taking Tim out to early (which we hear all the time) and then rail on him when he leaves him in a hitter too long….
And to Vin Mazzaro: Dude, I feel for you. The manager of the Royals (who is it? Yost?) should be disciplined for leaving him in the game that long. Letting him throw 78 pitches in 2 innings could easily have caused him to injure his arm (not to mention what 14 ER’s did to him psychologically) and then promptly optioning him to AAA shows how much they care about the arms of their pitchers. If I’m a KC pitcher I don’t trust one freaking person in the Royals organization, at any level, this morning…
The Flap Fantasy Baseball Standings
(Chuck makes a bold move and storms his way to a first place tie! Plus, Edd makes a desperate plea at the trade desk for, lol, pretty much everything. See below. Go Ed!)

….also meant to give props to Chuck for his line about it taking 17 hours to define “catchable.”
For a while down here, Chris Brown played for the Pads while Larry Bowa was the manager. One of the worst player/manager marriages of all time.
Once saw Brown when he was still playing for the Giants down here at old Jack Murphy Stadium. He got knocked down by a high-hard one and then on the next pitch hit one over my head in the left field bleachers—which was a good poke at that park.
Only guys I ever saw go upper deck there were Kevin Mitchell and ARod when he was a young pup on the Mariners.
Killebrew hit one 522 feet off some dude? Wow, what did THAT sound like? That would go over the glove at ATT. Maybe a handful of guys, steroids or not, who can hit a ball 522 feet in the history of the game……
Farthest shot I ever witnessed was Darrell Evans hit one into the RF upper deck. I was in row 12 and it hit 3 rows in front of me. It had to be over 500 ft.
I still have some great Killebrew BB cards from when I was a kid. I can still picture the ’73 card where he looks like a bad ass up at the plate waiting on a pitch. Those 1973 cards are my all-time favorites.
I had Killebrew cards too. But I had to trade for them. With my extra Bobby Bonds and gary Mathews and shit
I just got home and was catching up. What the fuck did I miss? Was there another troll on here talking shit that got deleted?
Dove?…I mean Hawk?
any card from the 70’s rocked. It would give you like 5 stats, then on the left side there would be some one scene cartoon and at the bottom you’d get a little bit of personal trivia: “Harmon once bowled a 242 game” or some shit like that. LOVED it.
Yeah, I remember that:
Johnny was the youngest Eagle Scout in Troop 45’s history
haha! perfect.
Hawk is a fucking pussy, he sits out for a month and then comes back as some random new guy. But he obviously doesn’t have much time on the internet cause he fires off about 30 posts. His IP address is always the same, that means he’s probably at a hospital or a library. Anyway, about 10 posts into it he starts blathering away about me fucking Twin or vice versa. It’s actually quite funny. And his email addresses all sound the same so he’s an easy target to bounce. Hey Hawk, FUCK YOU! I’ll see your response in my spam filter……….
So it *was* Hawk.
My understanding, from anonymous sources, is…to prep…before firing off his lame venom, he strategically places a dildough on his easy chair *just* to get in the right mood.
This isn’t anti-gay.
You have to be a human to be gay
you guys have no idea all the back end shit I end up blocking. This blog’s best feature is shit you never see. It’s also one of my favorite things. There’s nothing better than blocking a blog-fuck idiot who has spent half his jobless, lifeless morning crafting a post that slides quietly into my spam filter. Shady: 1 Blog Troll: 0
Those cartoons kicked ass!!!
I’m looking at a ’73 Pete Rose right now. It says “Pete attended the same high school as Tigers’ Ed Brinkman!” That’s gold right there…………..
Gold. Now I have to Google Ed Brinkman
Gary Matthews rocked a fro like no one else……
Oscar Gamble, baby . . . undisputed KING of the ‘fro . . . !
Watching Gene Washington put on his 49er helmet was equally awesome . . .
coco crisp did it earlier this year and it was just underwhelming. He had the fro but he didn’t have anything else—the uber-tight uniform, the bad lighting, the random fanless stands in the background…….
“Ed Brinkman”. It’s quite possible that Ed never played baseball. That’s how rad that blurb of the card was…….
Oh, I re-read it and see he was a Tiger. Either way, those random blurbs were the best……
I was a big Jose Cardenal guy myself
Artis Gilmore…

Last one, I promise—from Bert Campaneris’ 1973 card
“Campy once pitched a game lefthanded and righthanded”
(With a little drawing of a guy throwing 2 balls at once)
ALways tripped me out that Campy hit 22 homers one year, but never reached double figures in any other year.
I used to study the backs of these things for hours.
Campy also played all 9 positions in one game. So did Cesar Tovar.
Kobe Tai once played all 10 positions. Let’s see Campy top that!!
yet another example of why you and I were separated at birth. It is the strangest experience to share an unending list of interests/quirks/experiences/humor/etc with a dude I’ve met in person only one time. SanDawg, if you and I were gay, and we never had to do any of the sexual/intimate shit, you’d be my *soulmate*, lol…..
I give Coco Crisp props for the effort though. Still entertaining
Holy shit! I think that’s the nicest thing I’ve ever said about an A
One of my earliest memories of watching baseball on TV was that game where Campy threw his bat at that Tigers pitcher in the playoffs.
Doesn’t it blow your mind to see the old footage of baseball games where fans spill onto the field after a big game? The players turn into fullbacks, as they plough into fans, as they try to get off the field. It’s just so different now. The fans COULD still spill onto the field if they all wanted to these days. There isn’t enough security to stop it. But it just isn’t done anymore. It still happens after big college football and basketball games.
Ok…..I’m gonna give you 3 cartoons from 1973 cards, you see if you can tell me who the players are.
1. “Pitchers intentionally walked Willie more than any other player”
2. “Wilbur’s best pitch is his baffling knuckleball”
3. “Bert got married during the ’71 All Star Break”
(Answer in 10 minutes, or however long it takes me to make an egg salad sandwich for lunch tomorrow)
McCovey, Wood, Blyleven..
McCovey, Post, Lennon
Can I change Willie to Stargell?
I think you just missed it with this “Can I?”. Not bad Loo
McCovey, Wilbur Wood, bert Campanis……
how’d I do?
Loo fucking stiffed it like a KJ Choi 9 iron to #17 at Sawgrass……..McCovey, Wood, Blyleven
Shall we play again???
KJ Choi 9 iron to #17 at Sawgrass? I have no idea what that fucking means.
I’m assuming it’s…golf?
Bert Lennon? I meant Convy
Convy had a pretty sweet ‘do himself
Post was wrong?
well, he loses with that “Can I” shit but I agree, he did that in a nano. Sure, WTF do we have to do tonight, do another one…….
Ok….these are all from ’74 cards, and I’m raising the bar a little bit on this one in spots.
1. “Lou owns and operates a flower shop off season”
2. “Joe’s hobby is billiards”
3. “Jim wore lucky pair of socks winning 11 straight”
4. “Bobby was a high school teammate of UCLA’s Gary Beban”
Costello…and…
I got nothing
Piniella, ????????, Palmer, Bonds?
I’ll take Torre for billiards…
pinella, Rudi, Catfish Hunter, Bob Welch
tough one………
Fucking A’s??!! Fucking A’??!!
Sorry. Missed an “s”. But…
Fucking A’s??!!!
#3 is Palmer
and those were utter guesses.
That’s utterly ridiculous
You guys will get number one….not Piniella.
#2 has Bay area ties
Piniella’s wrong? I was sure about that one.
#4 had a sweet ‘stash and had some pop for a middle infielder
If Chatwood wondered where he stood with the Angels organization anymore, well…he just should wonder anymore. Oh wait, that only applies if you’re a pitcher with the Royals……..
#1 went from the Cubs to the Cards in one of the worst trades of all time
Brock?
#4 played in the game where Dave Henderson took Donnie Moore deep in the playoffs.
#1 was Brock—very nice Flav
#2 nit a notable home run off Terry Forster
obviously i nailed it about a second before you posted that tip
Gentlemen(?), goodnight.
See ya’ll tomorrow.
But before I go, I’ll stick around for 1o minutes if you can come up with the last Giant that went for the cycle
A steroid cycle?
No. And I have no idea what the answer is. I only saw one. Chris Spierier or however the fuck he spells his name. Just threw it out there to keep my peeps’ brains alive. Goodnight
Fred-dog Lewis
nailed it?
Morgan, Grich?
It would be easier if all these guys weren’t named “Joe” and they played for the Giants. lol
Yes and Yes, Loo
Took long enough.
One of my favorite Killebrew highlights was also a Monte Moore classic. Harmon hit one about 450 feet off Catfish, I believe. Monte reported that Harmon was “lucky” that Hunter hung one. Pretty bitter about that dumb luck, also…

“The Killer” ( no, I didn’t give him the nickname, Slim) was the only guy to hit one totally out of at least a couple stadiums, I remember one that went out of Tiger Stadium (or was it “Briggs” then? )…Just recall everyone looking up…I think my Dad reported “Oh my God”. I know it wasn’t his regular HR call, not a particularly memorable one “Going, going, gone”, I think…Harmon was a gentle man, soft spoken, humble. So much so that, unlike Mr. October, he was never criticized for admiring his works of art from home plate… RIP.
he was never criticized for admiring his works of art from home plate
——————————————————————————————-
You’re right. He wasn’t. Well put.
R.I.P.
all right, I must bounce. Her homework is all fucked up needing correction and the hair needs a’washin’ . I’ll check back in later about who these 4 were. I’ll tell ya, I could play the 1970’s baseball card game all night!!!!!!!!!
Don’t worry, I got plenty more where those came from:
Brock
Morgan
Palmer
Grich
Does anyone remember Killebrew broadcasting A’s games on TV at one point in maybe the 80’s? I seem to remember him doing that.
‘night fellas—thanks for playing
“Slightly more dangerous than fielding a sacrifice bunt”
Gold my man, gold.
