Nate Saves the Day
I don’t know how they calculate a Β *WAR* number but Nate’s should go up a tick or two after that performance. I don’t know many other players in the league who make that catch and NO ONE makes it without the shallow OF positioning. I’m certain that’s the first time I’ve ever seen a Giants game end like that. And I’m surprised no one has mentioned it, but he didn’t just dive for the ball, he had to move his arm out well to the left—I don’t think there was too much more *left* he could have gone to haul that bad boy in…….
Everything Wilson missed was up. That tells me that his ankle WAS bothering him since he was having trouble planting and finishing off his pitches. But in the end, who cares? Despite the unusual ending, it was a typical save for Bee-Wheezy….
Baggs noted another bomb by Belt for Fresno and wondered again if a call up was imminent. Listening to Sabean on KNBR, he didn’t sound too keen on bringing him up right now but he could have just been trying to diffuse the questions about it. Sabes also made it clear that Zito was several weeks away from returning. Really? From a sprained ankle? He’s obviously throwing because Raggs has him working on his delivery to re-capture the velocity that he’s lost. It’s actually the perfect scenario. They can warehouse him without any of the drama. Something tells me Zito is fine with it. He pitches scared and fearful of contact. Voggy pitches with focused determination. He’s been an unbelievable story this year and has developed into “This Year’s Torres”. In many ways he’s a savior of sorts. With all the fretting we’ve done about what to do with Zito, Voggy just comes in and poof Zito is gone and practice a new grip on the ball far away from a real-life game situation that he would normally be screwing up. Gotta love it………
Franchez — saves the run, and the ump crew’s azzz…
Gotta love a guy named Ballfour. I’m thinking don’t swing.
ha ha ha
The a’s do have a great bullpen put he burned his 2 best pinch hitters in the 7th inning. And he’s gonna need another one in the 9th. AL managers are out of their league trying to manage in an NL park
elitist
Damn! Ross got back to 1st base like one of the Nicholas Brothers
Here’s one of the fake conversations on the Splash today. Obviously the same guy. How sad and weird is that? I’ll call them A and B.
A)4:31 PM on May 20, 2011
Those sausage races are so fun! I included Milwaukee on the itinerary for my great ballpark vacation next year. I believe the runners, however, are female :p So rat me out to Mr. MOB.
Otherwise, I agree. Baseball should end in October, the way God meant Mr. Octobers to be.
B)4:58 PM on May 20, 2011
My buddy went to Miller Park late last year…he sez all of the seating has been angled to more or less face the infield and batters…
Phalli running rampant around a stadium have seen some ugly incidents resulting this bumper sticker:
“Don’t whack our wiener!”
A)5:03 PM on May 20, 2011
Didn’t some player intentionally knock over the Italian sausage? I remember something about a criminal investigation.
I’d also like to see that person come down a slide, although maybe do it by mistake after Posey knocks it out of the park.
B)5:10 PM on May 20, 2011
Yes…but I don’t remember his name…I didn’t know there was a criminal investigation either…I just thought he had been suspended for a game…
Do you know ‘Ruby Skye’ on Mason?…there is another club abutting it called ‘Slide’…I think you can ‘slide’ from ‘Slide’ into Ruby’s
Tough chance for Tejada. Even if he gloves it, iffy to get Crisp…
Barton is a smaller version of Jack Cust. Just goes up there looking for a walk. Nothing more.
Shouldn’t even bother bringing a piece of wood. Pussy.
Miller can casually throw out a great line:
“Schierholz at the entrance to Death Valley.”
Brew crew just beat Colorado.
Rockies let one get away.
Who’s managing the A’s, Buttermaker?
Crisp should be on second by now with a steal..
That bunt/steal play was a total headscratcher…
Busy day tomorrow, he’s got five pools to clean before game time.
There seems to an absurd protocol that if the ump doesn’t ask for help, he doesn’t get it. The crew chief should live up to his title- that call needed reviewing. The second base ump had to have seen it.
Yeah, I don’t get that either. In the NFL, the officials will run over to help, with the goal being that the most important thing is to get the call right. But I’m sure the NFL officials are considered lower on the food chain by the baseball umps, because the baseball umps are full-time.
And heard it.
Oh Yeah Romo.
Sit down! Frizzzzzzbeeeeeee! Now let’s score here in the bottom half. It’s not gonna be easy.
I don’t need to remind you guys that we’re dead LAST in runs scored in the NL.
Agreed, wtf is the crew chief approaching him for? Does he say anything to him? If he saw it as a foul does he just keep that to himself? Stupid.
How bout some Ford Time!
“How could six of you miss a play like that huh? All six of you!
Hank Stram (SB IV)
Why no double-switch when Romo came in?
cuz
Make em pay Buster, make em pay.
WTF is Geren thinking walking Huff to get to Buster?
WTF? Huff has sucked all year, Posey has been hot…
Well, it worked. I think the lefty righty thing is overblown. If a guy is in the middle of a slump, I’d rather pitch to him regardless of which side he’s hitting from…
Happy to see BW, Dennis?
This ump suxxxx. A first pitch fastball, again, down the middle between knee and belt. Called a Ball. I don’t get it…
Nate!
Nate is a helluva RF. Maybe he shouldn’t be DFA’d after all.
I’m not sure I can remember a 2 gm sequence of the kind of defensive brilliance we’ve seen from Nate the last 2 nights…
And fucking stop whining about the umps. You sound like LLeague parents.
They’re sucking tonight.
They’re no worse than usual tonight. They’re consitent. That’s the best you can get.
Actually, I think they’re sucking worse than usual tonight.
Fuk you. The umps suck, and have an impact on the game. If Franchez doesn’t make that great play, this home plate azz costs the Giants the game…
No fuck you. You always go after the umps as if anyone could do better. Their fallibility is part of the game, like wind or gravel in the dirt. You seize on the superior view we get from HD slomo etc. as if that tech is YOUR accomplishment. All you’re doing is second guessing based on tv’s help. You’re a fucking asshole.
Going after the umps has been a part of the game since they’ve had umps. Bochy and the Giants bench have been on this clown’s case all night.
What’s good for them is good enough for me…
If Nate could just hit about a nice .280, with his speed and super D, he’d be playing a lot…
not to belabor the point, but we’ve been saying that for 2 and a half years now, right?
Specifically I’m talking about any right fielder we’ve ever had
Nate’s solidified his spot as a starter vs. righties.
Randy Winn played a brilliant RF for the Giants.
No, he did not have Nate’s arm. But he was quicker and smarter and covered as much ground.
Dare I mention Jose Cruz, Jr., at least for the regular season?
Jose Cruz made one of the most amazing running catches in RF I’ve ever seen.
No laughing at the ump taking one in the throat. That would be wrong.
I haven’t stopped laughing.
Jose Cruz, 2003?
Miggy, Miggy Tejada…..very upset.
I’m talking about a 2 gm sequence. He wins last nights game and had two brilliant plays tonight that might have saved tonight’s gm
Bob Burda – July 8 & July 9 (1969) Unforgettable!
That was a brutal swing from Tejada. I haven’t seen anyone strikeout like that since Chuck’s last trip to the Bunny Ranch.
Burning the bullpen doesn’t always work when your hitters don’t. Finger crossing zone.
Just say u can’t remember a 2 gm sequence like this from any of our right fielders and I can move on from this…..
I canβt remember a 2 gm sequence like this from any of our right fielders.
I canβt remember a 2 gm sequence like this from any of our right fielders.
downtown ollie brown…i can’t remember it, but he was a cool player.
In a couple of years you won’t remember this one…
Alright Loogy, now let’s get a run.
There’s still just not a big demand for corner OFers with Nate’s career offensive numbers.. Torres and Ross are set. Nate will play against RHers until Belt returns ( or Nate stops hitting )
Gotta send him, eh?
Absolutely…
Steal then bunt?
Maybe they didn’t like him stealing against a lefty, risk the pickoff? I dunno. Burriss was stealin ’em blind in Fresno. They got two shots now at getting him in, so whatever…
All those relievers and the A’s closer is the worst of them.
Ha!
Let’s go Huff.
Chance for Huff to be the hero.
Oh Yeah.
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll second that.
Huff Daddy!
Huff-ster!
Bob Geren was right!
Quarter to two here, y’all have a good night. Fuck Yes.
Another walk-off win at home.
And a 1 1/2 game division lead now.
Sweet.
Looks like we’re going to have a season of these heartstoppers…
Cause I told you once,
Now I told you twice,
We gon’ light it up,
Like it’s dynamite!
Another walk off. I can get used to this…
They’re fun. But, I wouldn’t mind a 5-2 or 6-1 winner once in a while…
Swell game. Great AB from Burriss. Night all.
Fun hanging out with y’all tonight.
Yeah, I can’t remember much of his stint up in SF a couple of years ago, but I gotta believe that was one of his best clutch ABs as a Giant…
Right now Manny has the highest B.A. among those Giants who played tonight. Of course he has had all of 15 A.B.’s, though this one has to be huge for his confidence level. Winning can get to be a habit. Burriss may be nothing more than a utility infielder but sometimes those are the guys who help you win games.
Aubrey reverts from Huff n Puff to Huff the Magic Dragon. Maybe the hometown crowd, remembering his heroics for the World Champs, collectively wished him into recovering his pride and coming through with the game-winner. Our nifty lefty loogie Lopez is a winner tonight too. Great staff effort by the bullpen and especially by the Little Birdie that Could. Giants have won all of Vogelsong’s starts. When this team’s #5 starter can face the opponent’s ace and the team ultimately wins it says something.
Yowwwza.
Preface this by saying, yeah, Nate is a very, very good right fielder, but we did have a dude by the name of Bobby Bonds, who could play an outstanding right field too . . . at Candlestick no less . . . and before they enclosed it (in other words, non-stop swirling wind). Not saying who was a better fielder, but I saw Bonds and he was simply amazing, only outshined by a guy named Mays.
Well, needless to say we’d take Bobby over Nate. I think Nate’s arm is a little better, but Bobby kicks his rear in every other department. Any ball hit from center to right at the Stick in those days of the late 60s had an excellent chance of getting caught. As a kid I saw Bobby play A ball in a few Fresno Giants games back in ’66 or something like that. One look at how he played and you knew he was headed ASAP to the bigs…
True that Blade.
Almost forgot – Bobby also won 3 gold gloves (all in SF playing right field).
I liked us to win it as soon as I saw Fuentes..
I can still see Tito doing that little bat flip thing when he’d start to get into the batter’s box. Did it help him hit? I dunno, but it was kinda cool…
Wrong Fuentes, Snarkk. Although Tito was a favorite, definitely.
There’s no other Fuentes for me ‘cept Tito. I don’t pay attention to a Fuentes if he’s on the A’s π
I think the town drunk in BLAZING SADDLES said it all when he said….
REVRETT!!!
That’s genuine frontier gibberish!
I’m getting way too nostalgic after Blade brought up Bobby.
This was a good game tonight, in the present.
Bone suwar, schlaff good, gents…
Great game long drive. Completely shitty crew calling the game.
I’m surprised Buster didn’t get tossed. The defense was outstanding. . .
Nate keeps doing some good shot out there. Hard to figure how to keep him in though. Esp with 2 lefties next . . .
If you wish to arrange for post-Rapture care, I can take care of and find loving homes for your four-legged animal companions for a $500 fee.
Sorry. I’ll go away.
Don’t even think about Ted . . . Same goes for all the regulars here.
“it”
Probably talking to myself here, but thus far, my trip out to California has been very relaxful.
Heading out to the game tomorrow and it will probably be my last Giants game in the SF bay area until next year . . . Same bat channel, same bat time.
Actually, I’ll be able to catch a few more at Coors, but obviously not the same. Is anyone out there? Have you all been lifted to the heavens????
Is Loo still up? Soph? Hello? Damn . . . I do indeed think that everyone has been lifted up to that field of dreams in the sky. How lovely π
‘Nite all . . .
