Bill Hall to the rescue? and Nate the Great Comes Through Again
Uh, just saw this. Bill Hall sucks. If he couldn’t hit at MinuteMade Park he is done-zo. Right handers ABUSE that left field wall (and beyond). He could barely hit it out of the infield. He’ll be worse than Tejada. Idiotic signing……..
I think everyone is starting to notice that Nate is a different hitter late in the game (as I pointed out last week.. Kuiper discussed it on his show, too). I’m fine with him starting because the alternative is Rowand or Burrell starting in his place and that just won’t do. But he’s just the perfect secret weapon to bring off the bench to win you a game late. As I said last week, I think Nate is our MVP this season. In fact, time for a poll…….
The Flap Fantasy League Standings
(things are getting wild with NoWhitey taking a precipitous drop, NoTalent showing he’s got ALL the talent with a 5 pt jump and a stranglehold on first place, and BB’s hits the 40 pt mark for the first time in a month. With the bounty he just secured from our BLOCKBUSTER trade, there’s no telling where he might end the season).

And about the vote for the MVP? I din’t. It’s not a goddamn player, it’s “Blockhead.”
I should have added it’s “Blockhead” AGAIN. Bruce Bochy has been our MVP for quite awhile. And with the shitty lineups he’s been handed for the past few years, he’s my favorite “Charley Brown.”
I guess I save criticizing players’ performance until it’s clear why they’re performing so poorly. And maybe because I usually don’t know why, I usually don’t criticize. I have criticized the likes of Rowand in the past because he “seemed” to be continually having the same approach to his at-bats no matter what the situation, trying to pull the low outside pitch which often was resulting in weak grounders to the left side. With Tim, as with other players, I wouldn’t criticize if he “can’t” get the job done because he’s hurt or has a mechanical problem that he hasn’t figured out yet; but I would criticize him if he “won’t” get the job done because he’s dogging it or gotten lazy for some reason. I only brought up the run support issue because some pitchers have handled it well, like Cain all those years, just keep plugging and it’ll come around. If Tim’s not handling it well, then he damn better well get over it and ramp it up. Of course I cannot read his mind, so I don’t know.
Ok. I hope this will amuse some of you a bit, especially those of you who get annoyed by murph/mack in the morning on KNBR. Mack was coaching the opposing team today in the 13-14 year old championship game against my kid’s team. At this age they play on a big field, take leads, etc., and generally follow big league rules. Here’s the deal:
Mack’s team was up one run in the top of the 7th (they play 7), bases loaded, one out. If they shut us down, game over. Good hitter strikes out, but the catcher drops the ball, and the batter instinctively runs toward 1B. Mack and his co-coaches all yell at their catcher — “Touch the plate, throw to first, touch the plate . . . ” Etc. The catcher complies with both orders. Meanwhile, our 3B coach calmly tells our runner on 3B to sprint home and be sure to touch the plate. Because the ball was at 1B there was no chance for a tag play. The umps had to spend 5 minutes explaining to Mack and his co-coaches why the steal of home was ok, and the run counted. Tie game. My kid’s team won in extra innings. Particles, baby.
Counselor, congrats to you and your son. I was “amused” by your recount of the game. As one with NO Whitey kids of my own, I can read and see the exuberant nature of your and excitement in your post. Again, congratulations.
um, THAT is POTD…..
VORP for Flavor’s MVP candiates ( as per BP)
Torres 12.8
Nate 1.8
Fruckie 4.8
Wilson 6.7
Vogelsong 1.3
Gomez is 12.8? I knew I had a good reason to bitch and moan why “Blockhead” started Rowand today.
Stop thinking so much, “Blockhead”…
Really did have to go to bed. Perhaps I’ll talk to you in a few days, Don’t forget to give the 27th round draft pick holy hell if he sruggles tomorrow
TWIN, relax, it’s a fucking blog MVP vote. MOst of the guys are probably voting because of their favorite player or the guy who actually, you know, WINS games for them. We’ve discussed this before, it’s an old topic. Timmy gets slack because he’s a 2 time CY stud who helped us win a WS. Tejada gets shit because he’s fucking done and he never did anything for us. End of story……
That’s a pretty good explanation, right there. Timmeh is a Giant, he’s easily the best thing to happen to the organization since it acquired Bonds. He sucks for a while, OK fine he needs to figure it out, but he’s friggin EARNED some slack. He won the goddam clinching WS game, and two CYs. Tejada sucks — he’s earned squat, no excuses need apply. In my book, he’s a one season fill in and a phucking ex-A’s player….
We’ve all earned some slack.
I thought the “Gomez” stuff had stopped here……
Gomez never stops. It sleeps for a while. But it never stops.
Great POTD. Smurph and Smack. Fuckwads.
Mickey Rourke is one of the most underrated actors of our time. His performance in “The Pope of Greenwich Village” (which I’m currently watching for the umpteenth time) is beyond reproach. He’s my type of guy…Eric Roberts? Say hello to “Bed Bug Eddie.”
I wouldn’t call him “underrated”. He gets good reviews and has an Oscar nomination. Underused, maybe
Oh, yeah I like THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE as well. “Thet CUT my FUCKing FINger, CHAHHHlie!!!” What an enjoyable ham Eric Roberts is.
The book was better though
