The Re-Match VS The Phillies
I’m excited for this game tonight. Mostly, I want to see if that bat is still attached to Ryan Howard’s shoulder. I don’t watch Phillie games because I don’t have a single position player of theirs on any of my four fantasy teams. So, literally the last time I saw Howard live was when I was streaking out of my friend’s house, into the rain and down the end of the cul-de-sac with my daughter trailing behind….
This series is about one thing: pitching. The Giants and Phillies are 1/2 in ERA in all of baseball. Who’s going to blink first? I believe the Philly line up to be getting a little long in the tooth, in both age and production. Guys like Howard, Utley and Rollins, eh, they just don’t inspire the same fear they once did. And yet, the Phillies have the best record in the National League. You can’t take anything away from a 3 game series. Three games is nothing over the course of 162. I’m mostly interested in seeing how the Giants carry themselves during this trip. We are The World Champions, a fact that was magnified for every member of the organization during their trip to the White House yesterday. And now we walk into a hostile stadium to play arguably the best team in the league with the full glare of the collective east coast media. How will it turn out? Really, the anticipation is the great drama. That, and wondering if that goddamn bat is still stuck on Howard’s shoulder……..
Joanne Worley’s going to beat us?
I believed Joanne mostly occupied the top-right square on the “Hollywood Squares.” Joanne would sometimes complete the diagonal tic-tac-toe after Paul Lynde.
“Peter Marshall: True or false. In Athens they recently discovered sketches of the great philosopher Socrates, revealing that he bore a striking resemblance to Paul Newman?
Paul Lynde: But he walked like Joanne!”
They were on a fucking train.
exactly, that’s where it started. But that was an hour and a half ride, they probably rolled into Philly around 8 or 9 o’clock— dinner somewhere with bottles of expensive champagne, off to a club for more drinks and to pick up a couple of Loo’s whores then back to the hotel to finish themselves off. Totally and completely believable and if they girls were doing coke all night what was Timmy gonna do? Go to sleep at 2am? He might have been up all night before he sent them on a cab to nowhereland………
Or…..Tim might actually have stomach flu.
I go with the stomach flu.
Or maybe that fucked diet really has compromised his health.
That was my night,you’re confused..
hahaha. You beat me to it
Shit, these guys are hitting the ball hard. Just not catching a break.
Can Bubbles go 4?
I’m done with this blog tonite.
This ripping on Lincecum with NO knowledge whatever about his “flu” is total crap.
Maybe you’re all right. Maybe you’re not.
But, until we get even an inkling of reporting of irresponsible activity last night, and there are plenty of potential non-team sources for that, to accuse him of the things mentioned is out of line even for this ship of fools…
Snarkk just won’t tolerate ripping on a Giant…

So if the party was on, does that mean BW isn’t available as well? It looked to me like Tim wasn’t feeling all that well at the WH. Maybe it was too much Dr Pepper.
Run Forest run.
Zito is not awesome.
Andy of Mayberry RFD can hit Zito, dang is Aunt Bee pitching?
Interesting coincidence that Beltran is in Cincinnati with the Mets until Thursday. Would be great to already have him there when SF arrives for the weekend.
I never post much here because it’s sort of like a man cave, although I have much
“to accuse him of the things mentioned is out of line”
Why? Where’s this “line”? You miss an AS game in NY with the “stomach flu” in 2009; you get popped early in the morning for speeding down the highway in your Benz while smoking weed; you yell Fuck yeah! to an interviewer on live tv — you’re gonna have people thinking that maybe the next time you hit a huge bash on the East Coast and get the stomach flu it may not be the stomach flu. Could be a hangover, could be the stomach flu, could be a combination of both. Either way, it’s not the end of the world.
perfect post. And if Timmy hadn’t missed the AS game with the same *flu* it probably wouldn’t have been the first thing I thought of when I heard he wasn’t going to be able to go tonight….
Sorry. AS game in 2008.
I’ve read it and heard it before, but Bee Wheezy says he doesn’t drink during the season……
User error. sorry.
I have much love for the ones on here that I know.
My mother has always impressed upon me to be graceful and have manners. That being said:
FUCK BARRY ZITO AND THE DONKEY HE RODE IN ON.
I also believe that Timmy is genuinely sick :>
Color me impressed 😉
YOU are the genuine one as well as extremely generous. Post here any time you like, I know the regulars here love to read your stuff…..
And here I always thought the Flap was more a Man Fort. But hey, man fort, man cave, either way “FUCK BARRY ZITO AND THE DONKEY HE RODE IN ON.” is the password. So let er rip mailorderwife.
Been busy at work, forgot about the games early start, Shithead having the game of his life I see. This justifies Bochy leaving him off the roster last year for the playoffs and WS. He is such a useless SOB. Who makes the decision to play this clown!! Dennis you are WRONG, Zito is the A****S***** of the MLB. Case Closed.
Their first WS title since the Alamo wasn’t justification enough for you?
It was for me, so why are the Giants still trotting him out there??
Nice of the Giants to re-enact the final out last year.
Henry over on the Splash Bochy says Timmy didn’t look so hot at the WH. so there you have it, no partying at all for the Toker.
I’m not saying it wasn’t a binge but Tim looked like he was going to toss em up while standing there.
What, pale? Shit, that’s his look. . . .
Fat CC’s perfect thru 5 in NY…
There you go — he spent TWO nights in a row partying hard. Case closed.
Thatr’s funny, Tim always looks like shit. Or he started early, he did look like he was trying to hide.
I don’t care if that was against us or not. That was exciting. Was he safe? Need to see the replay.
agreed, fun play. So much for Utley’s bum knee…..
What a crappy game in every way.
Now Carlos Quinton’s name is being bandied about should the ChiSox go into sell mode. Stanford kid with plenty of pop. Defense is iffy, but if this team can start Tejada at SS they sure the hell can start CQ in the outfield.
When yer down by 5 in the bottom of the 7th, it ISN’T a big out.
I stopped paying much attention, have they praised Zits for saving the pen yet?
No, but it’s coming.
Bush-Puss move by Mayberry to be stealing 3rd up 6-1 with no outs. Fuck him. Kruk started to back volley a compliment by saying it’s been a weird game for Zito having only given up 5 hits, 3 in the first. Then Mayberry blasted a double down the line and Kruk just stopped talking…..
Shit, I say let him go all the way . . .
Too bad he’s due up in the 8th. Coulda got a CG…
Shit. Then again, when the rest of the offense has 2 hits off Joanne fucking Worley, let him hit.
OK, here comes the start of one of the greatest comebacks ever.
Fuck. Row Row gets his . . .
He made it look easy.
Never forget a game around 82 (?) in Cincy. Giants were down 7-1 going into the 9th. They scored 7 and shut down the Reds in the bottom of the 9th.
Too cool. Hey. it could happen. . . .
This is about what I figured for Zito tomorrow. Hope Cain goes.
Hey. it could happen. . .
——————————————-
Wasn’t that a line from ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD?
No, it’s from the Aphordite of the Accordion, Judy Tenuda . . .
At least it was quick. And don’t underestimate the night off for the bullpen…
Lose the game, win the series.
Damn, this game is moving right along. Gonna be right around 2:10 Nice catch by “Mark” Ibanez to rob Pablo.
At least this game was quick and mostly painless. Phils sweep and get me Beltran. I think Peguero, Runzler and hell, I’ll even throw in Conor. I’m feeling generous today. These next two games are meaningless. The rest of the regular season is meaningless. Get Beltran and a catcher and let’s start the playoffs already.
Actually, it was the kind of “nice” catch that a bad outfielder makes. Should have been routine..
The loss should go to Lincecum…
Well that sucked – Could you take a pitch Nate?
Cain vs Hamels tomorrow should be a good one. Matt was a little squirrely has last start. He should be nails.
So, we got Vogie/Kendrick for the finale? I’ll give that to the Giants. Vogie and the pen is a good combination.
Annnnnnnd sleep!
OK, quick survey time. I’ll give ya two options. Please choose one.
A) we get swept by the Phils but get Beltran by the deadline for the players I mentioned above.
B) we win the next two in style and get no Beltran or no other upgrade before the deadline.
Knowing this group the majority of you will choose B. Unbelievable. I feel like I’m in the Grotto at the Playboy Mansion. I’m surrounded by nothing but boobs.
Eat it, It’s a bogus poll, .
Dennis or Loo (maybe both) pointed out that this was painless. That’s actually a good point, short and painless. I can’t wait for Kruk’s morning show tomorrow. He’s going to be flipping through the excuses for Zito like he’s flipping through a roledex. I’ll see if I can come up with his top 5 excuses before tomorrow morning’s post. If you have a fav-Kruk-Zito-excuse I’d love to hear it……..
and another thing: I declare Chase Utley flying around the bases with a huge smile on his face rounding 3rd to go along with a fucking fantastic slide into home the best inside-the-park hr that I’ve seen live in a long time, maybe ever…….
I would have called him safe if he was out by 10 feet.,.
Most would choose to win the next two and also upgrade. Take your Ledger…
Blah blah blah. These guys are full of shit. It’s hard to hit a 3 run HR when you never get 2 guys on base . . .
Hey Dennis, didja hear the Niners signed Alex Smith to a one year, $5 mill deal?
With a 6 year player option
sweet. I think he’s going to have a great year…….
It was his hand, Sarge . . .
I have to think that if Huff doesnt pick it up on this road trip, he hits the pine (or DL) in favor of Belt…Huff’s either hurt or done, either way it’s not looking good for him.
Huff is the same as the rest of them, he just stands out as bad because of his contract and the fact that Bochy keeps batting him clean up. This LU sucks. Did you guys catch the Philly/Giant HR stat? In 2010 they were like 4 apart for the year, this year the Phillies were about 30 ahead. This is not the same offense and it’s not good enough to win in the playoffs. Period………
I can’t think of one poster here who objected to Huff’s contract…
Any team can win a short series. But I’ve advocated an upgrade now, just not where they’re talking.
Unless they can find a way to DL him on the back or whatever it was, very doubtful he’s benched altogether. Belt will just get some OF starts and spell Huff occasionaly. This has nothing to do with my recommendation, just what think to be the reality of it.Everybody is bitching now but there would have fan revolt if they hadn’t aggressively pursued Aubrey and signed him after last year…even though he figured for the down year as I detailed in March.
Quick note about Pat Burrell: He’s a huge pussy. He goes on the DL with a bogus foot strain just to make room for (Hector?) and he is too busy re-habbing that he can’t make the White House visit? I understand why Posey isn’t there but Burrell? I guess his bargain basement deal wasn’t enough to keep his interest this year. Enjoy your whores and your role as the *Machine*, I doubt he takes another at bat as a Giant ever again…..
Such strong feelings!
Well, it looks like this should get Basket Case back for the weekend..
Pierre to Gaston: “Zee futt, eet does not look so bad. But zee toe, eet ees fuul of gangrene. Zat toe need to be cut off to save zee futt. Oui, oui Monsieur. Zee toe must go.”
The Beltran deal is going to come down to which teams B prosepcts the Mets like best…The 5 minute Giant, Ronnie Paulino could be a nice throw-in, if Sabean decides to give three prospects as opposed to just two.
At this point, Sabean might actually insist that Paulino is included…
Burrell already had the White House experience with Obama and the Phillies in 2009. Maybe he hates Obama?
Most ball players are pretty right wing…
I’m starting to hear more whispers that no major deal may come down
Beltran’s gonna go somewhere. You mean no major deal for the Giants?
whispers…..where are the cries in the night?
Expected to hear the bitter end as I drove home this evening and instead heard the post game show. Damn fast for a really shitty game. During the post game, btw, the crew argued over player of the game for quite a while before finally settling on Worley. They couldn’t find a single Giant worth consideration. Amazingly, none of them remembered Utley’s inside the parker (thanks for the description, btw). Miller, Kruk & Kuip and Flem were ready to toss this game in the trash bin and move on.
Final hangover note: Could be a good thing, in the long run. If that’s what happened, the Giants know, and Bochy will have a private conversation with Lincecum about training, and nutrition, and the fact that they’re not paying him millions to get hammered the night before a start. He’ll weave some recent disciplinary tales into his presentation, by way of example. The theme, in the end, will come through: We would’ve dfa’d Pablo if he didn’t come around; we’re luckier with you. We can trade you. We’d rather just have you come around, however.
On the other hand, if it’s just the flu? Bad break with an upside. ABZ grows stronger.
Imbibing on the road is a tradition.
One of the reasons the flu is always used is that dehydration is probably the most common symptom, and a hangover is mostly a severe case of dehydration. Many of the other symptoms of a hangover are also flu symptoms. Of course, it’s always the 24-hour flu for our staggering warriors- the same recovery period as for a monster hangover,
Hope the Astros are taking note of Rowand’s “Crawford Box” power. Even if they don’t get Beltran or Lee, I can’t imagine them standing pat. Still have a funny feeling about Marlon Byrd…
Dennis’s “2 option” Poll – sounds like what the Republicans are offering Democrats . . . Bend over sans the KY jelly or open your mouth and get on your knees.
Funny, not one single reply with a simple answer of A or B. Just a lot of misdirection and BS of it being a bogus poll. But you’re already on the record as a “nay” for Beltran. So the honorable Senator Blade from Colorado has used up his two minutes. Why don’t you break early for lunch. I hear Pelosi is looking for some company at her table.
Because it’s dishonest and you know it- add the option to win the next two AND upgrade and you’d have an honest question..So are you drunk or do you have the flu again?
I think the “flu-ie” thing may honestly be something that Timmy is prone to get. He missed his first AS appearance in the past because of it, and I doubt any kid would miss a “1st AS” if it wasn’t legit. Some people have otherwise strong constitutions coupled with a weakness for a singular kind of bug.
Having said that, it should definitely be a clubhouse rule that you don’t miss a start against the Phils! If it had been, maybe … uh ,,, the Orioles, well…
Well, when have the two most famous illnesses occurred? On the eve of his first All-Star game and then the evening after meeting the President. Just about classic behavior for a young problem drinker.
Are you insinuating that Timmy is an alcoholic? That’s funny coming from a self-proclaimed teetotaler. What’s your expertise and background on problem drinking? You’d think a comment like that would come from someone in the know like a fellow alcoholic like myself.
I quit 11 years ago. I’ve talked about it before.I’ve never claimed to be a life long teetotaler. You are no longer a mere alcholic, Denny. It’s much worse for you.
So I know a lot about problem drinking and alcoholism. I also know a bit about beating it. Unrelated then, but I would have ZERO chance with my current issues were I still drinking. I hope you find a way to quit also, if it’s not already too late.
Check out Marcus Welby, M.D. handing out the diagnosis of “wet brain” for your s truly. That’s rich. I bet your med school consisted of some night school correspondence classes from Costa Rica. And your conclusion that I’m no longer just a “mere alcoholic” and it being “much worse” is a doozy. “I’m not a doctor, but I play one on a Giants blog.”
Dennis, I don’t know how seriously to take the stuff you post about drinking, but I wouldn’t discount what TF has to say on the subject.
Hic!
He admitted as much that he got too trashed to pitch that day. Something to the effect of Matty should have kept me on a shorter leash.
But really, how late to you have to hard-core it to miss the next night? I mean really, been there done that, but I always had to work in the morning . . . I made the call . . .
Yeah but you’re a tough BLEEP, BLEEP!
In the early ’80’s Brooklyn, you pretty much couldn’t walk into a bar on Flatbush Avenue and not see Chris Mullin…
Saw Mullin at 42nd Street in Palo Alto back in the day. Musta been around ’86. He was gonzo wasted. Don’t know when he hit the wagon, but it was near that time IIRC.
You’ve exceeded your “IIRC” quota for the day, Chuck.
Tice in one day? Damn. Got to control myself.
Doomin’ Denny is attempting to get a commenter to say they’d rather win 2 games this week than make any improvements in the team for the rest of the year.,like I said: wet brain.
Dennis must have gotten kicked in the noggin by his ponies.
2 tix for upper deck behind home plate: $70
Hot dogs, fries, Cokes, peanuts: $20+
Set of Phillies baseball cards for daughter: $6
Finding out from the ticket taker 20 minutes before the game that Lincecum is out sick and Zito is starting: Hopeless.
Haha. Thanks another potd when I get home
Oooh, that does suck, Mac. Here’s hoping that was the last we’ll ever see of Zito. As for trading deadline, I’d be very surprised if Sabean does nothing. I doubt we’d see a trade along the lines of ’97 with the White Sox and so many players in the swap, but something is coming.. maybe something none of us has foreseen. Sabean will do that sometimes, and do it well. (I’m not one to bash him for some lousy mid-summer deals, I think he’s done pretty well at the deadline for the most part, as well as after the deadline).
Enswincho del mara, asta fuego. Le burritos, afueugo, cinca du madre.
Asati buenou, el bonita…fal whanchista…el banio
In other words…
I’m an idiot. And…
Goodnight, gentlemen (? inverted)
“I’m an idiot”……Ted Spe sinks to my level. Congrats to Ted!
Eli and Row-Row break the ice. Whodda thunk it. Already the looming presence of Beltran is felt as the outfield becomes ever more competitive and playing time becomes a premium. Several Phillies fans on the MLBTR site discussing the Beltran trade expressed a desire for Rowand to be returned to their team.
